1The LORD said to me, ‘Get a large sheet of paper. Write “Maher-Shalal-Hash-Baz” on it with a pen.’2So I sent for Zechariah and Uriah the priest. Zechariah is the son of Jeberekiah. Zechariah and Uriah were witnesses for me whom I could trust.3Then I went and slept with my wife, who was a prophet. She became pregnant and had a baby boy. The LORD said to me, ‘Name him Maher-Shalal-Hash-Baz.4The king of Assyria will carry off the wealth of Damascus. He will also carry away the goods that were taken from Samaria. That will happen before the boy knows how to say “My father” or “My mother.” ’5The LORD continued,6‘I am like the gently flowing stream of Siloam. But the people of Judah have turned their backs on me. They are filled with joy because of the fall of Rezin and the son of Remaliah.7So I am about to bring against these people the king of Assyria and his whole army. The Assyrians will be like the mighty River Euphrates when it is flooding. They will run over everything in their path.8They will sweep on into Judah like a flood. They will pass through Judah and reach all the way to Jerusalem. Immanuel, they will attack your land like an eagle. Their wings will spread out and cover it.’9Sound the battle cry, you nations! But you will be torn apart. Listen, all you lands far away! Prepare for battle! But you will be torn apart. Prepare for battle! But you will be torn apart.10Make your battle plans! But you won’t succeed. Give your orders! But they won’t be carried out. That’s because God is with us.11The LORD speaks to me while his powerful hand is on me. He is warning me not to live the way these people live. He says,12‘People of Judah, do not agree with those who say Isaiah is guilty of treason. Do not fear what they fear. Do not be afraid.13The LORD rules over all. So you must think about him as holy. You must have respect for him. You must fear him.14Then the LORD will be a holy place of safety for you. But that’s not true for many people in Israel and Judah. He will be a stone that causes them to trip. He will be a rock that makes them fall. And for the people of Jerusalem he will be a trap and a snare.15Many of them will trip. They will fall and be broken. They will be trapped and captured.’16Tie up and seal this warning that the LORD said to you through me. Preserve among my followers what he taught you through me.17I will wait for the LORD. He is turning his face away from Jacob’s people. I will put my trust in him.18Here I am. Here are the children the LORD has given me. We are signs and reminders to Israel from the LORD who rules over all. He lives on Mount Zion.
The darkness turns to light
19There are people who get messages from those who have died. But these people only whisper words that are barely heard. Suppose someone tells you to ask for advice from these people. Shouldn’t you ask for advice from your God instead? Why should you get advice from dead people to help those who are alive?20Follow what the LORD taught you and said to you through me. People who don’t speak in keeping with these words will have no hope in the morning.21They will suffer and be hungry. They’ll wander through the land. When they are very hungry, they will become angry. They’ll look up towards heaven. They’ll ask for bad things to happen to their king and their God.22Then they will look at the earth. They’ll see nothing but suffering and darkness. They’ll see terrible sadness. They’ll be driven into total darkness.

(Isa 30:8)2Und ich will mir als treue Zeugen nehmen den Priester Uria und Secharja, den Sohn Jeberechjas.3Und ich ging zu der Prophetin; die ward schwanger und gebar einen Sohn. Und der HERR sprach zu mir: Nenne ihn Raubebald-Eilebeute!4Denn ehe der Knabe rufen kann: Lieber Vater! Liebe Mutter!, wird man den Reichtum von Damaskus und die Beute aus Samaria vor den König von Assyrien tragen. (2Ki 16:9; 2Ki 17:6; Isa 7:16)
Das Gericht über Juda und die Völker
5Und der HERR redete weiter mit mir und sprach:6Weil dies Volk verachtet die Wasser von Siloah, die still dahinfließen, und Freude hat an Rezin und dem Sohn Remaljas,7darum wird der Herr über sie kommen lassen die starken und vielen Wasser des Stromes, nämlich den König von Assyrien und alle seine Macht. Der Strom wird alle seine Kanäle überfluten und über alle seine Ufer treten.8Und er wird einbrechen in Juda und es überschwemmen und überfluten, bis er den Menschen an den Hals reicht. Und seine ausgebreiteten Flügel werden dein Land füllen, so weit es ist, o Immanuel[1]. (Isa 7:14)9Tobet, ihr Völker, und erschreckt! Höret’s alle, die ihr in fernen Landen seid! Rüstet euch und erschreckt; rüstet euch und erschreckt!10Beschließt einen Plan – es wird nichts draus werden; beredet euch – es wird nicht zustande kommen! Denn hier ist Immanuel[2].11Denn so sprach der HERR zu mir, als seine Hand über mich kam und er mich davon abhielt, den Weg dieses Volks zu wandeln:12Ihr sollt nicht alles Verschwörung nennen, was dies Volk Verschwörung nennt, und vor dem, was sie fürchten, fürchtet euch nicht und lasst euch nicht grauen,13sondern heiligt ihn, den HERRN Zebaoth; den lasst eure Furcht und euren Schrecken sein. (Isa 29:23)14Und er wird ein Heiligtum sein und ein Stein des Anstoßes und ein Fels des Ärgernisses für die beiden Häuser Israel, ein Fallstrick und eine Schlinge für die Bewohner Jerusalems, (Ro 9:32; 1Pe 2:8)15dass viele von ihnen sich daran stoßen, fallen, zerschmettern, verstrickt und gefangen werden. (Isa 28:13)
Der Prophet und seine Jünger
16Verschließe das Zeugnis! Versiegele die Weisung in meinen Jüngern! (Da 12:4)17Und ich will hoffen auf den HERRN, der sein Antlitz verborgen hat vor dem Hause Jakob, und will auf ihn harren.18Siehe, hier bin ich und die Kinder, die mir der HERR gegeben hat als Zeichen und Weissagung in Israel vom HERRN Zebaoth, der auf dem Berge Zion wohnt. (Isa 3:1; Isa 7:3; Heb 2:13)19Wenn sie aber zu euch sagen: Ihr müsst die Totengeister und Beschwörer befragen, die da flüstern und murmeln, so sprecht: Soll nicht ein Volk seinen Gott befragen? Oder soll man für Lebendige die Toten befragen? (Le 19:31; 1Sa 28:8)20Hin zur Weisung und hin zur Offenbarung! Werden sie das nicht sagen, so wird ihnen kein Morgenrot scheinen, (Isa 16:1)21sondern sie werden im Lande umhergehen, hart geschlagen und hungrig. Und wenn sie Hunger leiden, werden sie zürnen und fluchen ihrem König und ihrem Gott, und sie werden über sich blicken22und unter sich die Erde ansehen und nichts finden als Trübsal und Finsternis; denn sie sind im Dunkel der Angst und gehen irre im Finstern. (Isa 5:30)23Doch es wird nicht dunkel bleiben über denen, die in Angst sind. Hat er in früherer Zeit in Schmach gebracht das Land Sebulon und das Land Naftali, so hat er hernach zu Ehren gebracht den Weg am Meer, das Land jenseits des Jordans, das Galiläa der Heiden.
