144,000 people are marked with the seal of the living God
1After this I saw four angels. They were standing at the four corners of the earth. They were holding back the four winds of the earth. This kept the winds from blowing on the land or the sea or on any tree.2Then I saw another angel coming up from the east. He brought the official seal of the living God. He called out in a loud voice to the four angels. They had been allowed to harm the land and the sea.3‘Do not harm the land or the sea or the trees,’ he said. ‘Wait until we mark with this seal the foreheads of those who serve our God.’4Then I heard how many people were marked with the seal. There were 144,000 from all the tribes of Israel.5From the tribe of Judah, 12,000 were marked with the seal. From the tribe of Reuben, 12,000. From the tribe of Gad, 12,000.6From the tribe of Asher, 12,000. From the tribe of Naphtali, 12,000. From the tribe of Manasseh, 12,000.7From the tribe of Simeon, 12,000. From the tribe of Levi, 12,000. From the tribe of Issachar, 12,000.8From the tribe of Zebulun, 12,000. From the tribe of Joseph, 12,000. From the tribe of Benjamin, 12,000.
The huge crowd wearing white robes
9After this I looked, and there in front of me was a huge crowd of people. They stood in front of the throne and in front of the Lamb. There were so many that no one could count them. They came from every nation, tribe and people. That’s true no matter what language they spoke. They were wearing white robes. In their hands they were holding palm branches.10They cried out in a loud voice, ‘Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne. Salvation also belongs to the Lamb.’11All the angels were standing around the throne. They were standing around the elders and the four living creatures. They fell down on their faces in front of the throne and worshipped God.12They said, ‘Amen! May praise and glory and wisdom be given to our God for ever and ever. Give him thanks and honour and power and strength. Amen!’13Then one of the elders spoke to me. ‘Who are these people dressed in white robes?’ he asked. ‘Where did they come from?’14I answered, ‘Sir, you know.’ He said, ‘They are the ones who have come out of the time of terrible suffering. They have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.15So ‘they are in front of the throne of God. They serve him day and night in his temple. The one who sits on the throne will be with them to keep them safe.16“Never again will they be hungry. Never again will they be thirsty. The sun will not beat down on them.” The heat of the desert will not harm them. (Isa 49:10)17The Lamb, who is at the centre of the area around the throne, will be their shepherd. “He will lead them to springs of living water.” “And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.” ’ (Isa 25:8; Isa 49:10)

1Danach sah ich an den vier Enden der Erde vier Engel stehen. Sie hielten die vier Winde zurück, damit kein Wind auf der Erde, auf dem Meer und in den Bäumen wehte. (Jer 49:36; Da 7:2)2Von dorther, wo die Sonne aufgeht, sah ich einen anderen Engel emporsteigen, er hatte das Siegel des lebendigen Gottes in der Hand. Mit lauter Stimme wandte er sich an die vier Engel, denen Gott die Macht gegeben hatte, dem Land und dem Meer Schaden zuzufügen, (Eze 9:4; Eze 9:6; Re 9:4; Re 14:1; Re 14:3; Re 22:4)3und sagte: »Verwüstet weder das Land noch das Meer noch die Bäume! Erst müssen wir die Diener und Dienerinnen[1] unseres Gottes mit dem Siegel auf der Stirn kennzeichnen.«4Und ich hörte, wie viele mit dem Siegel gekennzeichnet wurden. Es waren hundertvierundvierzigtausend aus allen Stämmen des Volkes Israel: (Re 14:1; Re 14:3)5zwölftausend vom Stamm Juda, zwölftausend vom Stamm Ruben, zwölftausend vom Stamm Gad, (Re 21:12)6zwölftausend vom Stamm Ascher, zwölftausend vom Stamm Naftali, zwölftausend vom Stamm Manasse,7zwölftausend vom Stamm Simeon, zwölftausend vom Stamm Levi, zwölftausend vom Stamm Issachar,8zwölftausend vom Stamm Sebulon, zwölftausend vom Stamm Josef, zwölftausend vom Stamm Benjamin.
und die unzählbar große Schar der schon Vollendeten im Himmel
9Danach sah ich eine große Menge Menschen, so viele, dass niemand sie zählen konnte. Es waren Menschen aus allen Nationen, Stämmen, Völkern und Sprachen. Sie standen in weißen Kleidern vor dem Thron und dem Lamm und hielten Palmzweige in den Händen. (Re 6:11)10Mit lauter Stimme riefen sie: »Der Sieg gehört unserem Gott, der auf dem Thron sitzt, und dem Lamm!«11Alle Engel standen im Kreis um den Thron und um die Ältesten und um die vier mächtigen Gestalten. Sie warfen sich vor dem Thron zu Boden, beteten Gott an12und sprachen: »Das ist gewiss: Preis und Herrlichkeit, Weisheit und Dank, Ehre, Macht und Stärke gehören unserem Gott für alle Ewigkeit! Amen.«13Einer der Ältesten fragte mich: »Wer sind diese Menschen in weißen Kleidern? Woher kommen sie?«14Ich antwortete: »Ich weiß es nicht, Herr. Du weißt es!« Da sagte er zu mir: »Diese Menschen haben die große Verfolgung durchgestanden. Sie haben ihre Kleider gewaschen und im Blut des Lammes weiß gemacht. (Ps 51:9; Da 12:1; Mr 13:19; Re 1:5; Re 22:14)15Darum stehen sie vor dem Thron Gottes und dienen ihm Tag und Nacht in seinem Tempel. Er, der auf dem Thron sitzt, wird bei ihnen wohnen. (Re 5:7; Re 21:3)16Sie werden keinen Hunger oder Durst mehr haben; weder die Sonne noch irgendeine Glut wird sie versengen. (Isa 49:10; Lu 6:21)17Das Lamm, das in der Mitte des Thrones steht, wird ihr Hirt sein und sie an die Quellen führen, deren Wasser Leben spendet. Und Gott wird alle ihre Tränen abwischen.« (Ps 126:5; Isa 25:8; Joh 10:11)
