1Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life. It was as clear as crystal. It flowed from the throne of God and of the Lamb.2It flowed down the middle of the city’s main street. On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing 12 crops of fruit. Its fruit was ripe every month. The leaves of the tree bring healing to the nations.3There will no longer be any curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city. God’s servants will serve him.4They will see his face. His name will be on their foreheads.5There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun. The Lord God will give them light. They will rule for ever and ever.
John and the angel
6The angel said to me, ‘You can trust these words. They are true. The Lord is the God who gives messages to the prophets. He sent his angel to show his servants the things that must soon take place.’7‘Look! I am coming soon! Words of prophecy are written in this book. Blessed is the person who obeys them.’8I, John, am the one who heard and saw these things. After that, I fell down to worship at the feet of the angel. He is the one who had been showing me these things.9But he said to me, ‘Don’t do that! I serve God, just as you do. I am God’s servant, just like the other prophets. And I serve God along with all who obey the words of this book. Worship God!’10Then he told me, ‘Do not seal up the words of the prophecy in this book. These things are about to happen.11Let the person who does wrong keep on doing wrong. Let the evil person continue to be evil. Let the person who does right keep on doing what is right. And let the holy person continue to be holy.’
The revelation ends with warnings and blessings
12‘Look! I am coming soon! I bring my rewards with me. I will reward each person for what they have done.13I am the Alpha and the Omega. I am the First and the Last. I am the Beginning and the End.14‘Blessed are those who wash their robes. They will have the right to come to the tree of life. They will be allowed to go through the gates into the city.15Outside the city are those who are impure. These people include those who practise witchcraft. Outside are also those who commit sexual sins and murder. Outside are those who worship statues of gods. And outside is everyone who loves and does what is false.16‘I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this witness for the churches. I am the Root and the Son of David. I am the bright Morning Star.’17The Holy Spirit and the bride say, ‘Come!’ And the person who hears should say, ‘Come!’ Anyone who is thirsty should come. Anyone who wants to take the free gift of the water of life should do so.18I am warning everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book. Suppose someone adds anything to them. Then God will add to that person the plagues told about in this book.19Suppose someone takes away any words from this book of prophecy. Then God will take away from that person the blessings told about in this book. God will take away their share in the tree of life. God will also take away their place in the Holy City.20Jesus is a witness about these things. He says, ‘Yes. I am coming soon.’ Amen. Come, Lord Jesus!21May the grace of the Lord Jesus be with God’s people. Amen.
1Der Engel zeigte mir auch den Strom mit dem Wasser des Lebens, der wie Kristall funkelt. Der Strom entspringt am Thron Gottes und des Lammes (Eze 47:1)2und fließt entlang der Hauptstraße mitten durch die Stadt. An beiden Seiten des Flusses wachsen Bäume: der Baum des Lebens aus dem Paradies.[1] Sie bringen zwölfmal im Jahr Frucht, jeden Monat einmal. Ihre Blätter dienen den Menschen aller Völker als Heilmittel.3In der Stadt wird es nichts mehr geben, was unter dem Fluch Gottes steht. Der Thron Gottes und des Lammes wird in der Stadt stehen. Alle, die dort sind, werden Gott als Priester dienen, (Re 1:6)4sie werden ihn sehen, und sein Name wird auf ihrer Stirn stehen. (Ps 17:15; Mt 5:8; Re 14:1)5Es wird keine Nacht mehr geben und sie brauchen weder Lampen- noch Sonnenlicht. Gott, der Herr, wird über ihnen leuchten, und sie werden in alle Ewigkeit als Könige herrschen. (Da 7:18; Re 21:23)
Der Engel, der Seher Johannes und Jesus selbst verbürgen die Wahrheit dieses Buches
6Der Engel[2] sagte zu mir: »Diese Worte sind wahr und zuverlässig. Gott, der Herr, der den Propheten seinen Geist gibt, hat seinen Engel gesandt, um denen, die ihm dienen, zu zeigen, was sich in Kürze ereignen muss.« (Ac 11:27; 1Co 14:1; Re 1:1; Re 1:3; Re 10:7; Re 19:9; Re 21:5)7»Gebt acht! Ich komme bald!« – sagt Jesus Christus[3] – »Freuen darf sich, wer die prophetischen Worte dieses Buches beherzigt.« (Re 3:11)8Ich, Johannes, bin es, der das alles gehört und gesehen hat. Als es vorüber war, warf ich mich vor dem Engel, der mir diese Dinge gezeigt hatte, nieder, um ihn anzubeten. (Re 19:10)9Er aber sagte: »Tu das nicht! Ich bin ein Diener Gottes wie du und deine Brüder, die Propheten, und wie alle, die sich nach den Worten dieses Buches richten. Bete Gott an!«10Dann sagte Jesus zu mir: »Du darfst das Buch, in dem diese prophetischen Worte stehen, nicht für später versiegeln; denn die Zeit ihrer Erfüllung ist nahe. (Da 12:4)11Wer Unrecht tut, mag es weiterhin tun. Wer den Schmutz liebt, mag sich weiter beschmutzen. Wer aber recht handelt, soll auch weiterhin recht handeln. Und wer heilig ist, soll weiter nach Heiligkeit streben. (Isa 56:1; Da 12:10)12Gebt acht, ich komme bald, und euren Lohn bringe ich mit. Jeder empfängt das, was seinen Taten entspricht. (Mt 16:27; Re 2:23; Re 6:10; Re 16:6; Re 19:2; Re 20:12)13Ich bin das A und das O,[4] der Erste und der Letzte, der Anfang und das Ende. (Re 1:8)14Freuen dürfen sich alle, die ihre Kleider reinwaschen.[5] Sie empfangen das Recht, die Frucht vom Baum des Lebens zu essen und durch die Tore in die Stadt hineinzugehen. (Re 7:14)15Aber die Verworfenen, die Zauberer, die Ehebrecher und die Mörder müssen draußen vor der Stadt bleiben, und die Götzenanbeter und alle, die die Lüge lieben und entsprechend handeln. (Eph 5:5; Re 21:27)16Ich, Jesus, habe meinen Engel gesandt, um euch, den Propheten,[6] zuverlässig mitzuteilen, was auf die Gemeinden zukommt. Ich bin der Wurzelspross[7] und Nachkomme Davids. Ich bin der leuchtende Morgenstern.« (Nu 24:1; Re 5:5)17Der Geist und die Braut antworten: »Komm!« Wer dies hört, soll sagen: »Komm!« Wer durstig ist, soll kommen, und wer von dem Wasser des Lebens trinken will, wird es geschenkt bekommen. Warnung und Zusage. Brieflicher Abschluss
18Ich, Johannes, warne alle, die die prophetischen Worte aus diesem Buch hören: Wer diesen Worten etwas hinzufügt, dem wird Gott die Qualen zufügen, die in diesem Buch beschrieben sind. (De 4:2; De 29:19)19Wenn aber jemand von diesen Worten etwas wegnimmt, wird Gott ihm seinen Anteil an der Frucht vom Baum des Lebens und an der Heiligen Stadt wegnehmen, die in diesem Buch beschrieben sind. (Re 2:7)20Der aber, der dies alles bezeugt, sagt: »Ganz gewiss, ich komme bald!« Amen, komm, Herr Jesus! (1Co 16:22; Re 3:11)21Die Gnade unseres Herrn Jesus sei mit allen!
