1In the land of Judah, God is well known. In Israel, his name is great.2His tent is in Jerusalem. The place where he lives is on Mount Zion.3There he broke the deadly arrows of his enemies. He broke their shields and swords. He broke their weapons of war.4God, you shine like a very bright light. You are more majestic than mountains full of wild animals.5Brave soldiers have been robbed of everything they had. Now they lie there, sleeping in death. Not one of them can even lift his hands.6God of Jacob, at your command both horse and chariot lie still.7People should have respect for you alone. Who can stand in front of you when you are angry?8From heaven you handed down your sentence. The land was afraid and became quiet.9God, that happened when you rose up to judge. It happened when you came to save all your suffering people in the land.10Your anger against sinners brings you praise. Those who live through your anger gather to worship you.11Make promises to the LORD your God and keep them. Let all the neighbouring nations bring gifts to the God who should be respected.12He breaks the proud spirit of rulers. The kings of the earth have respect for him.

(Ps 9:12; Ps 48:2; Ps 65:2; Ps 68:17; Ps 87:1; Ps 132:13; Isa 2:3; Ob 1:17)4Alles Kriegsgerät hat er zerbrochen, die Pfeile, die Schwerter und die Schilde. (Ps 46:10)5Von Glanz bist du umgeben, Gott, machtvoller als die uralten Berge[2] bist du!6Furchtlose Krieger wurden ausgeplündert; sie schlafen ihren letzten Schlaf und können nie mehr zu den Waffen greifen. (Ps 48:5; Jer 51:57)7Als du sie bedrohtest, Gott Jakobs, da konnten Ross und Reiter sich nicht mehr rühren.8Ehrfurcht gebietend bist du! Wer hält dir stand, wenn du zornig wirst?9Vom Himmel her verkündest du das Urteil. Alle Welt erschrickt und wird still,10wenn du aufstehst, Gott, und Gericht hältst, um die Unterdrückten auf der Erde zu befreien.11Sogar das Wüten deiner Feinde muss noch deinen Ruhm vergrößern; denn alle, die diesem Wüten entgehen, sind wie eine Krone, mit der du dich schmückst.12Legt Gelübde ab und löst sie ein vor dem HERRN, eurem Gott! Ihr Völker, die ihr rings um ihn wohnt, bringt dem gewaltigen Gott Geschenke! (Ps 66:13)13Er erniedrigt hochmütige Führer und lehrt die Herrscher der Erde das Fürchten!
