1A man named Micah lived in the hill country of Ephraim.2He said to his mother, ‘Someone took 13 kilograms of silver from you. I heard you curse the one who took it. I have the silver with me. I’m the one who took it.’ Then his mother said, ‘My son, may the LORD bless you!’3He gave the 13 kilograms of silver back to his mother. She said to him, ‘I’m making a promise to set apart my silver to the LORD. My son, I want you to use it to cover a statue of a god made out of wood or stone. That’s why I’ll give the silver back to you.’4Micah gave the silver back to his mother. Then she gave 2.5 kilograms of it to a skilled worker who made things out of silver. He used the silver for the statue. The statue was put in Micah’s house.5That same Micah had a small temple. He made a sacred linen apron and some statues of his family gods. He appointed one of his sons to serve as his priest.6In those days Israel didn’t have a king. The people did anything they thought was right.7A young Levite had been living in land that belonged to the tribe of Judah. He was from Bethlehem in Judah.8He left that town to look for some other place to stay. On his way he came to Micah’s house. It was in the hill country of Ephraim.9Micah asked him, ‘Where are you from?’ ‘I’m a Levite,’ he said. ‘I’m from Bethlehem in Judah. I’m looking for a place to stay.’10Then Micah said to him, ‘Live with me. Be my father and priest. I’ll give you 120 grams of silver a year. I’ll also give you clothes and food.’11So the Levite agreed to live with him. The young man became just like one of Micah’s sons to him.12Then Micah appointed the Levite to serve as his priest. He lived in Micah’s house.13Micah said, ‘Now I know that the LORD will be good to me. This Levite has become my priest.’

Als sie es entdeckte, sprach sie über den Dieb einen Fluch aus. Da sagte Micha zu ihr: »Die Silberstücke, die du vermisst, sind bei mir; ich habe sie mir genommen.« »Der HERR möge den Fluch in Segen verwandeln!«, rief die Mutter.3Als Micha ihr das Silber zurückgab, fügte sie hinzu: »Hiermit weihe ich das Silber dem HERRN, damit er dich segnet. Es soll davon ein Gottesbild gemacht werden, aus Holz geschnitzt und mit Metall überzogen. So kommt das Geld dir wieder zugute.« (De 27:15)4Sie nahm von dem Geld 200 Silberstücke und gab sie dem Goldschmied. Der machte ein Gottesbild aus Holz und überzog es mit Metall; das wurde in Michas Gehöft aufgestellt. (Ex 20:4)5Micha besaß nämlich ein eigenes Heiligtum. Er ließ auch einen Priesterschurz und eine Orakeltasche machen und setzte einen von seinen Söhnen als Priester ein.6Es gab zu jener Zeit noch keinen König in Israel und jeder tat, was er wollte. (Jud 18:1; Jud 19:1; Jud 21:25)7Ein junger Levit vom Stamm Juda hatte in Betlehem Aufnahme gefunden.8Dann verließ er die Stadt, um irgendwo ein neues Unterkommen zu suchen. Sein Weg führte ihn durch das Bergland von Efraïm und auch zu Michas Gehöft.9»Woher kommst du?«, fragte ihn Micha und er antwortete: »Ich bin ein Levit aus Betlehem in Juda und suche irgendwo ein Unterkommen.«10Micha sagte zu ihm: »Bleib doch bei mir, sei mein Priester und geistlicher Vater! Ich werde dir jährlich 10 Silberstücke geben und dazu deine Amtskleidung und was du an Nahrung brauchst.«[1]11-12Der Levit war damit einverstanden und blieb. Micha setzte ihn zum Priester ein und behandelte ihn wie einen Sohn.13Er sagte sich: »Jetzt bin ich sicher, dass der HERR es mir gut gehen lässt. Ich habe einen Nachkommen von Levi als Priester.«
