1‘I am the true vine. My Father is the gardener.2He cuts off every branch joined to me that does not bear fruit. He trims every branch that does bear fruit. Then it will bear even more fruit.3You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you.4Remain joined to me, just as I also remain joined to you. No branch can bear fruit by itself. It must remain joined to the vine. In the same way, you can’t bear fruit unless you remain joined to me.5‘I am the vine. You are the branches. If you remain joined to me, and I to you, you will bear a lot of fruit. You can’t do anything without me.6If you don’t remain joined to me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and dries up. Branches like those are picked up. They are thrown into the fire and burned.7If you remain joined to me and my words remain in you, ask for anything you wish. And it will be done for you.8When you bear a lot of fruit, it brings glory to my Father. It shows that you are my disciples.9‘Just as the Father has loved me, I have loved you. Now remain in my love.10If you obey my commands, you will remain in my love. In the same way, I have obeyed my Father’s commands and remain in his love.11I have told you this so that you will have the same joy that I have. I also want your joy to be complete.12Here is my command. Love one another, just as I have loved you.13No one has greater love than the one who gives their life for their friends.14You are my friends if you do what I command.15I do not call you slaves anymore. Slaves do not know their master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends. I have told you everything I learned from my Father.16You did not choose me. Instead, I chose you. I appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit that will last. I also appointed you so that the Father will give you what you ask for. He will give you whatever you ask for in my name.17Here is my command. Love one another.
The world hates the disciples
18‘My disciples, does the world hate you? Remember that it hated me first.19If you belonged to the world, it would love you like one of its own. But you do not belong to the world. I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you.20Remember what I told you. I said, “A slave is not more important than his master.” If people hated me and tried to hurt me, they will do the same to you. If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also. (Joh 13:16)21They will treat you like that because of my name. They do not know the one who sent me.22If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not be guilty of sin. But now they have no excuse for their sin.23Whoever hates me hates my Father also.24I did works among them that no one else did. If I hadn’t, they would not be guilty of sin. But now they have seen those works. And still they have hated both me and my Father.25This has happened so that what is written in their Law would come true. It says, “They hated me without any reason.”
The work of the Holy Spirit
26‘I will send the Friend to you from the Father. He is the Spirit of truth, who comes out from the Father. When the Friend comes to help you, he will be a witness about me.27You must also be witnesses about me. That’s because you have been with me from the beginning.

Nur wenn ihr mit mir vereint bleibt, könnt ihr Frucht bringen, genauso wie eine Rebe nur Frucht bringen kann, wenn sie am Weinstock bleibt. Denn ohne mich könnt ihr nichts ausrichten. (2Co 3:5; 2Co 4:7)6Wer nicht mit mir vereint bleibt, wird wie eine abgeschnittene Rebe fortgeworfen und vertrocknet. Solche Reben werden gesammelt und ins Feuer geworfen, wo sie verbrennen. (Mt 7:19)7Wenn ihr mit mir vereint bleibt und meine Worte in euch lebendig sind, könnt ihr den Vater um alles bitten, was ihr wollt, und ihr werdet es bekommen. (Joh 15:16)8Die Herrlichkeit meines Vaters wird ja dadurch sichtbar, dass ihr reiche Frucht bringt und euch so als meine Jünger erweist. (Joh 17:1)9So wie der Vater mich liebt, habe ich euch meine Liebe erwiesen. Bleibt in dieser Liebe! (Joh 5:18)10Wenn ihr meine Gebote befolgt, dann bleibt ihr in meiner Liebe, so wie ich die Gebote meines Vaters befolgt habe und in seiner Liebe bleibe. (Joh 4:34; Joh 14:15)11Ich habe euch dies gesagt, damit meine Freude euch erfüllt und an eurer Freude nichts mehr fehlt. (Joh 16:22; Joh 16:24; Joh 17:13; Joh 20:20; 1Jo 1:4)12Dies ist mein Gebot: Ihr sollt einander so lieben, wie ich euch geliebt habe. (Joh 13:34)13Niemand liebt mehr als einer, der sein Leben für seine Freunde opfert. (Joh 10:11; Ro 5:8; 1Jo 3:16)14Ihr seid meine Freunde, wenn ihr mein Gebot befolgt.15Ich nenne euch nicht mehr Diener; denn ein Diener weiß nicht, was sein Herr tut. Vielmehr nenne ich euch Freunde; denn ich habe euch alles gesagt, was ich von meinem Vater gehört habe.16Nicht ihr habt mich erwählt, sondern ich habe euch erwählt. Ich habe euch dazu bestimmt, reiche Frucht zu bringen, Frucht, die Bestand hat. Darum gilt auch: Alles, was ihr vom Vater in meinem Namen, unter Berufung auf mich, erbittet, wird er euch geben. (Mt 7:7; Joh 14:13; Joh 15:7; Joh 16:23; 1Jo 3:22; 1Jo 5:14)17Dieses eine Gebot gebe ich euch: Ihr sollt einander lieben!« (Joh 13:34)
Der Hass der Welt
18»Wenn die Welt euch hasst, dann denkt daran, dass sie mich zuerst gehasst hat. (Joh 7:7; Joh 16:32; Joh 17:14; 1Jo 3:13)19Die Welt würde euch als ihre Kinder lieben, wenn ihr zu ihr gehören würdet. Aber ich habe euch aus der Welt herausgerufen und ihr gehört nicht zu ihr. Aus diesem Grund hasst euch die Welt.20Denkt an das, was ich euch gesagt habe: Kein Diener ist größer als sein Herr. Wie sie mich verfolgt haben, werden sie auch euch verfolgen. Und so viel oder so wenig sie sich nach meinem Wort gerichtet haben, werden sie sich auch nach dem euren richten. (Joh 13:16)21Das alles werden sie euch antun, weil ihr euch zu mir bekennt. Sie kennen nämlich den nicht, der mich gesandt hat. (Joh 16:3)22Sie hätten keine Schuld, wenn ich nicht gekommen wäre und zu ihnen gesprochen hätte. So aber haben sie keine Entschuldigung mehr. (Joh 9:41)23Wer mich hasst, der hasst auch meinen Vater. (Lu 10:16; Joh 5:23)24Sie hätten keine Schuld, wenn ich nicht Taten unter ihnen vollbracht hätte, die noch kein Mensch getan hat. Doch sie haben diese Taten gesehen und hassen mich trotzdem, mich und meinen Vater. (Joh 5:36)25Aber das muss so sein, damit in Erfüllung geht, was in ihrem Gesetz steht: ›Ohne jeden Grund haben sie mich gehasst.‹ (Ps 35:19; Ps 69:5)26Der Helfer wird kommen, der an meine Stelle tritt. Es ist der Geist der Wahrheit, der vom Vater kommt. Ich werde ihn zu euch senden, wenn ich beim Vater bin, und er wird als Zeuge über mich aussagen. (Joh 14:16)27Und auch ihr werdet meine Zeugen sein, denn ihr seid von Anfang an bei mir gewesen. (Joh 1:14; Ac 1:8; 1Jo 1:2; 1Jo 4:14)
