The false prophet Hananiah opposes Jeremiah

1 The false prophet Hananiah spoke to me, Jeremiah, in the LORD’s house. Hananiah was from Gibeon. He was the son of Azzur. It was shortly after Zedekiah became king of Judah. It was in the fifth month of his fourth year. In front of the priests and all the people Hananiah spoke to me. He said, 2 ‘The LORD who rules over all is the God of Israel. He says, “I will break the yoke of the king of Babylon. 3 Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, removed all the objects that belong to my house. He took them to Babylon. Before two years are over, I will bring them back to this place. 4 I will also bring King Jehoiachin back. He is the son of Jehoiakim. And I will bring back all the others who were taken from Judah to Babylon,” announces the LORD. “I will break the yoke of the king of Babylon.” ’ 5 Then Jeremiah the prophet replied to the false prophet Hananiah. Jeremiah spoke to him in front of the priests and all the people. They were standing in the LORD’s house. 6 Jeremiah said, ‘Amen, Hananiah! May the LORD do those things! May he make the words you have prophesied come true. May he bring back from Babylon the objects that belong to the LORD’s house. May he bring back to this place all the people who were taken away. 7 But listen to what I have to say. I want you and all the people to hear it. 8 There have been prophets long before you and I were ever born. They have prophesied against many countries and great kingdoms. They have spoken about war, trouble and plague. 9 But what if a prophet says peace will come? And suppose peace really does come? Only then will he be recognised as a prophet truly sent by the LORD.’ 10 The false prophet Hananiah took the yoke off the neck of Jeremiah the prophet. Then Hananiah broke the yoke. 11 In front of all the people he said, ‘The LORD says, “In the same way, I will break the yoke of Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon. Before two years are over, I will remove it from the necks of all the nations.” ’ When Jeremiah the prophet heard this, he went on his way. 12 A message from the LORD came to Jeremiah. It was after the false prophet Hananiah had broken the yoke off Jeremiah’s neck. The message said, 13 ‘Go. Tell Hananiah, “The LORD says, ‘You have broken a wooden yoke. But in its place you will get an iron yoke.’ 14 The LORD who rules over all is the God of Israel. He says, ‘I will put an iron yoke on the necks of all these nations. I will make them serve Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon. So they will serve him. I will even give him control over the wild animals.’ ” ’ 15 Then Jeremiah the prophet spoke to the false prophet Hananiah. Jeremiah said, ‘Listen, Hananiah! The LORD hasn’t sent you. But you have tricked these people. Now they trust in lies. 16 So the LORD says, “I am about to remove you from the face of the earth. Before this year is over, you will die. You have taught the people to turn against me.” ’ 17 In the seventh month of that very year, the false prophet Hananiah died.

Prophet steht gegen Prophet

1 Im fünften Monat desselben Jahres – es war das vierte Regierungsjahr von Zidkija – trat der Prophet Hananja, der Sohn Asurs aus Gibeon, Jeremia im Tempel entgegen. Er sagte zu ihm in Gegenwart der Priester und des Volkes: (Jer 51:59) 2 »So spricht der Gott Israels, der Herrscher der Welt: ›Ich zerbreche das Joch des Königs von Babylonien! 3 Noch genau zwei Jahre, dann bringe ich alle heiligen Geräte des Tempels, die Nebukadnezzar von hier nach Babylonien geschafft hat, an diesen Ort zurück. (Jer 27:16) 4 Auch König Jojachin von Juda und alle anderen, die aus Juda nach Babylonien verschleppt worden sind, bringe ich zurück. Denn ich will das Joch des Königs von Babylonien zerbrechen.‹ Das sagt der HERR.« (Jer 22:24) 5 Da antwortete der Prophet Jeremia dem Propheten Hananja vor den Priestern und dem ganzen Volk, das im Tempel versammelt war: 6 »Amen! Ich wünschte, der HERR würde es tun! Er lasse deine Worte in Erfüllung gehen und bringe die Geräte des Tempels und alle Verschleppten aus Babylonien hierher zurück! 7 Aber jetzt höre, was ich dir und dem ganzen Volk zu sagen habe: 8 Auch die Propheten, die lange vor mir und dir gelebt haben, sagten vielen Ländern und großen Reichen nichts als Krieg, Unglück und Pest voraus. (Isa 13:1; Jer 26:18; Am 1:3) 9 Sagt aber ein Prophet Glück und Sieg voraus, so bleibt abzuwarten, ob sein Wort in Erfüllung geht. Erst daran erweist sich, dass er wirklich im Auftrag des HERRN gesprochen hat.« (De 18:22) 10 Da nahm Hananja das Joch vom Nacken Jeremias und zerbrach es. 11 Dann erklärte er vor allen Leuten: »So spricht der HERR: ›Ebenso nehme ich in zwei Jahren, genau auf den Tag, das Joch, das König Nebukadnezzar allen Völkern auferlegt hat, und zerbreche es.‹« Jeremia ging weg. 12 Aber einige Zeit danach erging das Wort des HERRN an Jeremia, er sagte zu ihm: (Jer 42:7) 13 »Geh und richte Hananja aus: So spricht der HERR: ›Das Joch aus Holz hast du zerbrochen, aber dafür kommt jetzt ein Joch aus Eisen. 14 Denn der Gott Israels, der Herrscher der Welt, hat gesagt: Ein eisernes Joch lege ich auf den Nacken aller Völker; sie müssen sich Nebukadnezzar, dem König von Babylonien, unterwerfen. Selbst die wilden Tiere werden ihm untertan sein.‹« (De 28:48) 15 Weiter sagte Jeremia zu ihm: »Hör gut zu, Hananja! Der HERR hat dich nicht gesandt. Du hast das Volk dazu verführt, auf Lügen zu vertrauen. 16 Deshalb sagt der HERR: ›Für dich ist kein Platz mehr auf der Erde. Noch in diesem Jahr wirst du sterben, denn du hast Auflehnung gegen den HERRN gepredigt.‹« (De 13:16; Jer 29:32) 17 Und der Prophet Hananja starb im siebten Monat desselben Jahres.
