1‘Comfort my people,’ says your God. ‘Comfort them.2Speak tenderly to the people of Jerusalem. Announce to them that their hard labour has been completed. Tell them that their sin has been paid for. Tell them the LORD has punished them enough for all their sins.’3A messenger is calling out, ‘In the desert prepare the way for the LORD. Make a straight road through it for our God.4Every valley will be filled in. Every mountain and hill will be made level. The rough ground will be smoothed out. The rocky places will be made flat.5Then the glory of the LORD will appear. And everyone will see it together. The LORD has spoken.’6Another messenger says, ‘Cry out.’ And I said, ‘What should I cry?’ ‘Cry out, “All people are like grass. They don’t stay faithful to me any longer than wildflowers last.7The grass dries up. The flowers fall to the ground. That happens when the LORD makes his wind blow on them. So people are just like grass.8The grass dries up. The flowers fall to the ground. But what our God says will stand for ever.” ’9Zion, you are bringing good news to your people. Go up on a high mountain and announce it. Jerusalem, you are bringing good news to them. Shout the message loudly. Shout it out loud. Don’t be afraid. Say to the towns of Judah, ‘Your God is coming!’10The LORD and King is coming with power. He rules with a powerful arm. He has set his people free. He is bringing them back as his reward. He has won the battle over their enemies.11He takes care of his flock like a shepherd. He gathers the lambs in his arms. He carries them close to his heart. He gently leads those that have little ones.12Who has measured the oceans by using the palm of his hand? Who has used the width of his hand to mark off the sky? Who has measured out the dust of the earth in a basket? Who has weighed the mountains on scales? Who has weighed the hills in a balance?13Who can ever understand the Spirit of the LORD? Who can ever give him advice?14Did the LORD have to ask anyone to help him understand? Did he have to ask someone to teach him the right way? Who taught him what he knows? Who showed him how to understand?15The nations are only a drop in a bucket to him. He considers them as nothing but dust on the scales. He weighs the islands as if they were only fine dust.16Lebanon doesn’t have enough trees to keep his altar fires burning. It doesn’t have enough animals to sacrifice as burnt offerings to him.17To him, all the nations don’t amount to anything. He considers them to be worthless. In fact, they are less than nothing in his sight.18So who will you compare God with? Is there any other god like him?19Will you compare him with a statue of a god? Anyone who works with metal can make a statue. Then another worker covers it with gold and makes silver chains for it.20But someone who is too poor to bring that kind of offering will choose some wood that won’t rot. Then they look for a skilled worker. They pay the worker to make a statue of a god that won’t fall over.21Don’t you know who made everything? Haven’t you heard about him? Hasn’t it been told to you from the beginning? Haven’t you understood it ever since the earth was made?22God sits on his throne high above the earth. Its people look like grasshoppers to him. He spreads out the heavens like a cover. He sets it up like a tent to live in.23He takes the power of princes away from them. He reduces the rulers of this world to nothing.24They are planted. They are scattered like seeds. They put down roots in the ground. But as soon as that happens, God blows on them and they dry up. Then a violent storm sweeps them away like straw.25‘So who will you compare me with? Who is equal to me?’ says the Holy One.26Look up towards the sky. Who created everything you see? The LORD causes the stars to come out at night one by one. He calls out each one of them by name. His power and strength are great. So none of the stars is missing.27Family of Jacob, why do you complain, ‘The LORD doesn’t notice our condition’? People of Israel, why do you say, ‘Our God doesn’t pay any attention to our rightful claims’?28Don’t you know who made everything? Haven’t you heard about him? The LORD is the God who lives for ever. He created everything on earth. He won’t become worn out or get tired. No one will ever know how great his understanding is.29He gives strength to those who are tired. He gives power to those who are weak.30Even young people become worn out and get tired. Even the best of them trip and fall.31But those who trust in the LORD will receive new strength. They will fly as high as eagles. They will run and not get tired. They will walk and not grow weak.
1»Tröstet, tröstet mein Volk!«, sagt euer Gott. (Isa 61:1; Isa 66:13)2»Sprecht den Leuten aus Jerusalem Mut zu, sagt zu ihnen: ›Eure Gefangenschaft ist zu Ende! Eure Schuld ist abgebüßt! Ihr habt vom HERRN die volle Strafe für eure Vergehen empfangen; jetzt ist alles beglichen!‹«[1] (Isa 44:22; Jer 16:18)3Hört, jemand ruft: »Bahnt für den HERRN einen Weg durch die Wüste, baut eine Straße für unseren Gott! (Isa 11:16; Isa 35:8; Isa 43:19; Isa 49:11; Isa 57:14; Mr 1:3)4Füllt die Täler auf, ebnet Berge und Hügel ein, räumt alle Hindernisse aus dem Weg!5Der HERR wird kommen in seiner ganzen Herrlichkeit und alle Menschen werden es sehen. Der HERR selbst hat das gesagt.« (Isa 35:2; Isa 66:18)6Ich hörte eine Stimme sagen: »Rede zu deinem Volk!« »Was soll ich denn sagen?«, fragte ich. »Alle Menschen sind vergänglich wie das Gras. Auch wenn sie noch so gerecht und treu sind, es ergeht ihnen nicht anders als den Blumen auf der Wiese. (Ps 90:5; Isa 40:15; Isa 51:12; 1Pe 1:24)7Das Gras verdorrt, die Blumen verwelken, wenn der HERR seinen glühenden Atem darüber wehen lässt. Ja, wie Gras ist das Volk!«8Da sagte die Stimme: »Das Gras verdorrt, die Blumen verwelken; aber das Wort unseres Gottes bleibt für immer in Kraft.« (Ps 119:89; Isa 55:11; Mr 13:31)
Die Freudenbotschaft
9Steig auf einen hohen Berg, du Freudenbotin Jerusalem! Ruf mit lauter Stimme deine Botschaft aus, du Zionsstadt! Tu es unbesorgt, hab keine Angst! Sag den Städten Judas: »Euer Gott kommt!10Der HERR, der mächtige Gott, kommt als Sieger und herrscht mit starker Hand. Die Siegesbeute, sein Volk, das er befreit hat, zieht vor ihm her. (Isa 42:16; Isa 43:1; Isa 48:20; Isa 51:11; Isa 62:11)11Er führt sein Volk wie ein guter Hirt, der die Lämmer auf seinen Arm nimmt und an seiner Brust trägt und der die Mutterschafe behutsam leitet.« (Isa 46:3; Isa 49:9; Eze 34:11)
Der Schöpfer der Welt als Herr der Geschichte
12Wer kann mit der hohlen Hand das Wasser des Meeres abmessen, mit der Spanne seiner Hand den Umfang des Himmels bestimmen? Wer kann den Boden, der die Erde bedeckt, in Eimer abfüllen oder die Berge und Hügel auf der Waage abwiegen? (Job 38:1)13Und wer kann die Gedanken des HERRN abmessen? Wer wird von ihm in seine Pläne eingeweiht? (1Co 2:16)14Braucht der Schöpfer der Welt jemand, der ihm Ratschläge gibt und ihm auf die Sprünge hilft, der ihn über Recht und Gerechtigkeit belehrt und ihm den richtigen Weg zeigt?15Begreift doch: Für den HERRN sind die Völker wie ein Tropfen am Eimer oder ein Stäubchen auf der Waagschale; der ganze Erdkreis wiegt[2] für ihn nicht mehr als ein Sandkorn.16Alles Wild auf dem Libanon reicht nicht aus und alle seine Bäume geben nicht genug Brennholz für ein Opfer, das ihm angemessen wäre.17Alle Völker sind vor ihm wie nichts, mit all ihrer Macht zählen sie für ihn nicht.18Mit wem wollt ihr Gott vergleichen? Gibt es irgendetwas, das einen Vergleich mit ihm aushält? (Ps 96:5; Isa 41:21; Isa 44:9; Isa 46:1; Jer 51:15)19Da machen sie Götterbilder: Der Gießer fertigt eine Bronzefigur an und der Goldschmied beschlägt sie mit Goldblech und Silberstreifen.20Der Auftraggeber[3] wählt als Sockel ein Stück Holz, das nicht fault, und sucht sich einen geschickten Handwerker, der das Bild darauf befestigt, sodass es nicht wackelt.21Begreift ihr denn nicht? Könnt ihr nicht hören? Wird es euch nicht seit Urzeiten verkündet? Sagen es euch nicht die Fundamente der Erde?22Gott thront hoch über dem Erdkreis, sodass die Menschen für ihn so klein wie Heuschrecken sind. Wie ein Tuch hat er den Himmel ausgespannt, wie ein Zeltdach, unter dem die Menschen wohnen. (Ps 104:2; Isa 42:5; Isa 44:24; Isa 45:12; Zec 12:1)23Die Großen und Mächtigen der Erde sind vor ihm nichts und werden vernichtet. (Isa 2:11; Lu 1:51)24Eben erst sind sie hochgekommen und schon ist es mit ihnen zu Ende; es ergeht ihnen wie dem Keimling oder Setzling, der gerade Wurzel schlägt: Der Gluthauch des HERRN bläst sie an und sie verdorren; der Sturm trägt sie fort wie Spreu.25»Mit wem also wollt ihr mich vergleichen? Wer kann es mit mir aufnehmen?«, fragt der heilige Gott.26Seht doch nur in die Höhe! Wer hat die Sterne da oben geschaffen? Er lässt sie alle aufmarschieren, das ganze unermessliche Heer. Jeden Stern ruft er einzeln mit Namen, und keiner bleibt fern, wenn er, der Mächtige und Gewaltige, ruft. (Ge 1:14; Ps 147:4; Isa 45:12)
Gott gibt Kraft zum Durchhalten
27Ihr Leute von Israel, ihr Nachkommen Jakobs, warum klagt ihr: »Der HERR kümmert sich nicht um uns; unser Gott lässt es zu, dass uns Unrecht geschieht«? (Isa 49:14; Isa 50:1)28Habt ihr denn nicht gehört? Habt ihr nicht begriffen? Der HERR ist Gott von Ewigkeit zu Ewigkeit, seine Macht reicht über die ganze Erde; er hat sie geschaffen! Er wird nicht müde, seine Kraft lässt nicht nach; seine Weisheit ist tief und unerschöpflich.29Er gibt den Müden Kraft und die Schwachen macht er stark.30Selbst junge Leute werden kraftlos, die Stärksten erlahmen.31Aber alle, die auf den HERRN vertrauen, bekommen immer wieder neue Kraft, es wachsen ihnen Flügel wie dem Adler. Sie gehen und werden nicht müde, sie laufen und brechen nicht zusammen. (Ps 103:5; 2Co 12:9)
