from Biblica1I want you to know how hard I am working for you. I’m concerned for those who are in Laodicea. I’m also concerned for everyone who has not met me in person.2My goal is that their hearts may be encouraged and strengthened. I want them to be joined together in love. Then their understanding will be rich and complete. They will know the mystery of God. That mystery is Christ.3All the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hidden in him.4But I don’t want anyone to fool you with words that only sound good.5So even though I am away from you in body, I am with you in spirit. And I am glad to see that you are controlling yourselves. I am happy that your faith in Christ is so strong.
Having all things in Christ
6You received Christ Jesus as Lord. So keep on living your lives in him.7Have your roots in him. Build yourselves up in him. Grow strong in what you believe, just as you were taught. Be more thankful than ever before.8Make sure no one controls you. They will try to control you by using false reasoning that has no meaning. Their ideas depend on human teachings. They also depend on the basic spiritual powers of this world. They don’t depend on Christ.9God’s whole nature is living in Christ in human form.10Because you belong to Christ, you have been made complete. He is the ruler over every power and authority.11When you received Christ, your circumcision was not done by human hands. Instead, your circumcision was done by Christ. He put away the person you used to be. At that time, sin’s power ruled over you.12When you were baptised, you were buried together with Christ. And you were raised to life together with him when you were baptised. You were raised to life by believing in God’s work. God himself raised Jesus from the dead.13At one time you were dead in your sins. Your desires controlled by sin were not circumcised. But God gave you new life together with Christ. He forgave us all our sins.14He wiped out what the law said that we owed. The law stood against us. It judged us. But he has taken it away and nailed it to the cross.15He took away the weapons of the powers and authorities. He made a public show of them. He won the battle over them by dying on the cross.
Freedom from human rules
16So don’t let anyone judge you because of what you eat or drink. Don’t let anyone judge you about holy days. I’m talking about special feasts and New Moons and Sabbath days.17They are only a shadow of the things to come. But what is real is found in Christ.18Some people enjoy pretending they aren’t proud. They worship angels. But don’t let people like that judge you. These people tell you every little thing about what they have seen. They are proud of their useless ideas. That’s because their minds are not guided by the Holy Spirit.19They aren’t connected anymore to the head, who is Christ. But the whole body grows from the head. The muscles and tendons hold the body together. And God causes it to grow.20Some people still follow the basic spiritual powers of the world. But you died with Christ as far as these powers are concerned. So why do you act as if you still belong to the world? Here are the rules you follow.21‘Do not handle! Do not taste! Do not touch!’22Rules like these are about things that will pass away soon. They are based on merely human rules and teachings.23It is true that these rules seem wise. Because of them, people give themselves over to their own kind of worship. They pretend they are humble. They treat their bodies very badly. But rules like these don’t help. They don’t stop people from chasing after sinful pleasures.
1Es liegt mir daran, dass ihr wisst, wie sehr es bei diesem meinem Kampf um euch in Kolossä geht und auch um die Gemeinde in Laodizea und überhaupt um alle, die mich persönlich nicht kennengelernt haben. (Col 4:13; Col 4:15; Re 3:14)2Ich möchte, dass sie alle Mut bekommen und in Liebe zusammenhalten und dass sie zur ganzen reichen Fülle des Verstehens gelangen und Gottes Geheimnis begreifen, nämlich Christus. (Col 1:26)3In ihm sind alle Schätze der Weisheit und Erkenntnis verborgen. (1Co 1:24; 1Co 1:30)4Ich sage das, damit euch niemand durch Überredungskünste hinters Licht führt. (Ro 16:18)5Obwohl ich fern von euch bin, bin ich im Geist bei euch und freue mich zu sehen, wie fest ihr zusammenhaltet und wie unerschütterlich euer Glaube an Christus ist. (1Co 5:3)
Christus muss die Mitte bleiben
6Ihr habt Jesus Christus als den Herrn angenommen; darum lebt nun auch in der Gemeinschaft mit ihm und nach seiner Art!7Seid in ihm verwurzelt und baut euer Leben ganz auf ihn. Bleibt im Glauben fest und lasst euch nicht von dem abbringen, was euch gelehrt worden ist. Hört nicht auf zu danken für das, was Gott euch geschenkt hat. (Eph 3:17)8Gebt acht, dass euch niemand mit der leeren Vorspiegelung einfängt, euch die wahre Religion zu bringen.[1] Das beruht doch alles auf Menschenlehren und hat nur mit den kosmischen Mächten zu tun, aber nicht mit Christus.9In Christus wohnt wirklich und wahrhaftig die Heilsmacht Gottes in ihrer ganzen Fülle, (Eph 1:21; Col 1:19)10und durch ihn wird euch die Fülle des Heils zuteil, nicht durch irgendwelche anderen Mächte. Denn Christus ist das Oberhaupt jeder Macht und Gewalt im ganzen Kosmos.11Durch Christus seid ihr auch beschnitten worden – nicht am Körper, sondern so, dass ihr den ganzen Körper, sofern er unter der Herrschaft der Sünde steht, abgelegt habt. Dies geschah in der Christus-Beschneidung, (Ro 2:28; Eph 2:11)12der Taufe. Als ihr getauft wurdet, seid ihr mit Christus begraben worden, und durch die Taufe seid ihr auch mit ihm zusammen auferweckt worden. Denn als ihr euch taufen ließt, habt ihr euch ja im Glauben der Macht Gottes anvertraut, der Christus vom Tod auferweckt hat. (Ro 6:3; Eph 2:6; Col 3:1)13Einst wart ihr tot, denn ihr wart unbeschnitten, das heißt in ein Leben voller Schuld verstrickt. Aber Gott hat euch mit Christus zusammen lebendig gemacht. Er hat uns unsere ganze Schuld vergeben. (Eph 2:1; Eph 2:5)14Den Schuldschein, der uns wegen der nicht befolgten Gesetzesvorschriften belastete, hat er für ungültig erklärt. Er hat ihn ans Kreuz genagelt und damit für immer beseitigt. (Eph 2:15; 1Pe 2:24)15Die Mächte und Gewalten, die diesen Schuldschein gegen uns geltend machen wollten,[2] hat er entwaffnet und vor aller Welt zur Schau gestellt, er hat sie in seinem Triumphzug mitgeführt – und das alles in und durch Christus. (Eph 1:21)
Über Christus hinaus brauchen wir nichts
16Darum soll euch niemand verurteilen wegen eurer Ess- und Trinkgewohnheiten oder weil ihr bestimmte Festtage oder den Neumondstag oder den Sabbat nicht beachtet. (Ro 14:1; Ga 4:10; 1Ti 4:3)17Das alles ist nur ein Schatten der kommenden neuen Welt; doch die Wirklichkeit ist Christus, und die ist schon zugänglich in seinem Leib, der Gemeinde.[3] (Heb 8:5)18Niemand soll euch das Heil absprechen, der sich in Demutsübungen und Engelverehrung gefällt und das mit irgendwelchen visionären Erlebnissen begründet. Solche Menschen blähen sich grundlos auf in ihrer rein irdischen Gesinnung, (Eph 1:21; Col 1:16)19statt sich an Christus zu halten, der doch der Herr über alles ist und das Haupt des Leibes, der Gemeinde.[4] Von ihm her wird der ganze Leib zusammengehalten und versorgt, damit er zur vollen Größe emporwächst, wie es Gott gefällt. (Eph 1:22; Eph 1:23)20Wenn ihr mit Christus gestorben seid, seid ihr den kosmischen Mächten weggestorben. Warum tut ihr dann so, als ob ihr noch unter ihrer Herrschaft lebtet? Ihr lasst euch vorschreiben: (Ga 4:3; Ga 4:9)21»Dies sollst du nicht anfassen, das sollst du nicht kosten, jenes sollst du nicht berühren!« (Mr 7:7; Heb 13:9)22Alle diese Dinge sind doch zum Gebrauch und Verzehr bestimmt! Warum lasst ihr euch dann von Menschen darüber Vorschriften machen?23Es sieht nur so aus, als ob diese selbst gewählte Verehrung, die Demutsübungen und die Kasteiung des Körpers Zeichen besonderer Weisheit seien. In Wirklichkeit bringt das alles uns Gott nicht näher, sondern dient nur der Befriedigung menschlicher Selbstsucht und Eitelkeit.
