1This will be my third visit to you. Scripture says, ‘Every matter must be proved by the words of two or three witnesses.’ (De 19:15)2I already warned you during my second visit. I now say it again while I’m away. When I return, I won’t spare those who sinned earlier. I won’t spare any of the others either.3You are asking me to prove that Christ is speaking through me. He is not weak in dealing with you. He is powerful among you.4It is true that Christ was nailed to the cross because he was weak. But Christ lives by God’s power. In the same way, we share his weakness. But by God’s power we will live with Christ as we serve you.5Take a good look at yourselves to see if you are really believers. Test yourselves. Don’t you realise that Christ Jesus is in you? Unless, of course, you fail the test!6I hope you will discover that I haven’t failed the test.7I pray to God that you won’t do anything wrong. I don’t pray so that people will see that I have passed the test. Instead, I pray this so that you will do what is right, even if it seems I have failed.8I can’t do anything to stop the truth. I can only work for the truth.9I’m glad when I am weak but you are strong. I pray that there will be no more problems among you.10That’s why I write these things before I come to you. Then when I do come, I won’t have to be hard on you when I use my authority. The Lord gave me the authority to build you up. He didn’t give it to me to tear you down.

11Finally, brothers and sisters, be joyful! Work to make things right with one another. Help one another and agree with one another. Live in peace. And the God who gives love and peace will be with you.12Greet one another with a holy kiss.13All God’s people here send their greetings.14May the grace shown by the Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. May the love that God has given us be with you. And may the sharing of life brought about by the Holy Spirit be with you all.

Denkt an den Grundsatz: »Aufgrund von zwei oder drei Zeugenaussagen wird der Schuldspruch gefällt.« (Mt 18:16)2Für die von euch, die früher gesündigt haben, und für alle anderen wiederhole ich jetzt aus der Ferne, was ich schon während meines zweiten Besuches angekündigt habe: Wenn ich das nächste Mal komme, gibt es keine Schonung! (1Co 4:21; 2Co 1:23; 2Co 10:11; 2Co 12:20; 2Co 13:10)3Da habt ihr dann den gewünschten Beweis dafür, dass Christus durch mich spricht. Christus ist euch gegenüber nicht schwach, sondern erweist unter euch seine Kraft.4Als er am Kreuz starb, war er schwach. Aber jetzt lebt er durch Gottes Kraft. Auch ich[1] bin mit Christus schwach. Aber ich werde mit ihm leben und mich stark erweisen euch gegenüber aus Gottes Kraft. (1Co 1:25; 2Co 12:9)5Anstatt mich zu prüfen, prüft lieber euch selbst, ob ihr überhaupt noch im Glauben steht! Tretet ihr den Beweis an, dass ihr euch bewährt habt, statt von mir einen zu verlangen![2] Ihr müsst ja doch an euch selbst erkennen können, ob Jesus Christus noch in eurer Mitte ist. Wenn er es nicht ist, dann habt ihr versagt! (Ro 8:9)6Ich hoffe nur, ihr werdet noch einsehen, dass ich jedenfalls nicht versagt habe.7Ich bete zu Gott, dass ihr keinerlei Böses und Verwerfliches tut. Nicht, damit ich dann dastehe als der, der recht behalten und sich durchgesetzt hat! Nein, wenn nur ihr das Gute tut, will ich gern auch weiterhin wie ein Schwächling und Versager dastehen. (2Co 4:5)8Denn ich kann ja nichts gegen die Wahrheit der Guten Nachricht ausrichten, sondern nur für sie.9Deshalb freue ich mich, wenn ich schwach bin und ihr stark seid. Genau darum bete ich zu Gott: Ich bitte ihn, dass er euch wieder zurechtbringt.10Dies alles schreibe ich euch, solange ich noch fern von euch bin. Ich möchte nicht streng mit euch umgehen müssen, wenn ich komme. Die Vollmacht, die der Herr mir gab, habe ich nicht bekommen, um die Gemeinde zu zerstören, sondern um sie aufzubauen. (2Co 10:8; 2Co 13:2)11Im Übrigen, Brüder und Schwestern,[3] freut euch! Nehmt meine Worte zu Herzen und lasst euch wieder auf den rechten Weg bringen. Seid einer Meinung und lebt in Frieden miteinander. Dann wird Gott, der uns seine Liebe und seinen Frieden schenkt, bei euch sein. (Joh 14:27; 1Co 7:15)12Grüßt einander mit dem Friedenskuss! Die ganze Gemeinde hier[4] lässt euch grüßen. (Ro 16:16)13Die Gnade unseres Herrn Jesus Christus und die Liebe Gottes und die Gemeinschaft stiftende Kraft des Heiligen Geistes[5] sei mit euch allen!
