Revelation 22

New International Reader’s Version

1 Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life. It was as clear as crystal. It flowed from the throne of God and of the Lamb.2 It flowed down the middle of the city’s main street. On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing 12 crops of fruit. Its fruit was ripe every month. The leaves of the tree bring healing to the nations.3 There will no longer be any curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city. God’s servants will serve him.4 They will see his face. His name will be on their foreheads.5 There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun. The Lord God will give them light. They will rule for ever and ever.6 The angel said to me, ‘You can trust these words. They are true. The Lord is the God who gives messages to the prophets. He sent his angel to show his servants the things that must soon take place.’7 ‘Look! I am coming soon! Words of prophecy are written in this book. Blessed is the person who obeys them.’8 I, John, am the one who heard and saw these things. After that, I fell down to worship at the feet of the angel. He is the one who had been showing me these things.9 But he said to me, ‘Don’t do that! I serve God, just as you do. I am God’s servant, just like the other prophets. And I serve God along with all who obey the words of this book. Worship God!’10 Then he told me, ‘Do not seal up the words of the prophecy in this book. These things are about to happen.11 Let the person who does wrong keep on doing wrong. Let the evil person continue to be evil. Let the person who does right keep on doing what is right. And let the holy person continue to be holy.’12 ‘Look! I am coming soon! I bring my rewards with me. I will reward each person for what they have done.13 I am the Alpha and the Omega. I am the First and the Last. I am the Beginning and the End.14 ‘Blessed are those who wash their robes. They will have the right to come to the tree of life. They will be allowed to go through the gates into the city.15 Outside the city are those who are impure. These people include those who practise witchcraft. Outside are also those who commit sexual sins and murder. Outside are those who worship statues of gods. And outside is everyone who loves and does what is false.16 ‘I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this witness for the churches. I am the Root and the Son of David. I am the bright Morning Star.’17 The Holy Spirit and the bride say, ‘Come!’ And the person who hears should say, ‘Come!’ Anyone who is thirsty should come. Anyone who wants to take the free gift of the water of life should do so.18 I am warning everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book. Suppose someone adds anything to them. Then God will add to that person the plagues told about in this book.19 Suppose someone takes away any words from this book of prophecy. Then God will take away from that person the blessings told about in this book. God will take away their share in the tree of life. God will also take away their place in the Holy City.20 Jesus is a witness about these things. He says, ‘Yes. I am coming soon.’ Amen. Come, Lord Jesus!21 May the grace of the Lord Jesus be with God’s people. Amen.

Revelation 22

English Standard Version

1 Then the angel[1] showed me the river of the water of life, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb (Ps 46:4; Eze 47:1; Zec 14:8; Re 21:6)2 through the middle of the street of the city; also, on either side of the river, the tree of life[2] with its twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit each month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. (Ge 2:9; Eze 47:12; Re 2:7; Re 21:21; Re 21:24; Re 22:14; Re 22:19)3 No longer will there be anything accursed, but the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and his servants will worship him. (Ge 3:17; Eze 48:35; Zec 14:11; Re 7:15; Re 21:3; Re 21:23)4 They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. (Mt 5:8; 1Co 13:12; 1Jo 3:2; Re 3:12; Re 7:3; Re 14:1)5 And night will be no more. They will need no light of lamp or sun, for the Lord God will be their light, and they will reign forever and ever. (Ps 36:9; Da 7:18; Da 7:27; Ro 5:17; 2Ti 2:12; Re 20:4; Re 21:11; Re 21:23; Re 21:25)6 And he said to me, “These words are trustworthy and true. And the Lord, the God of the spirits of the prophets, has sent his angel to show his servants what must soon take place.” (1Co 14:32; Re 1:1; Re 21:5)7 “And behold, I am coming soon. Blessed is the one who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book.” (Re 1:3; Re 3:11; Re 22:12; Re 22:20)8 I, John, am the one who heard and saw these things. And when I heard and saw them, I fell down to worship at the feet of the angel who showed them to me, (Re 1:1; Re 1:4; Re 1:9; Re 19:10)9 but he said to me, “You must not do that! I am a fellow servant with you and your brothers the prophets, and with those who keep the words of this book. Worship God.” (Re 22:6; Re 22:8)10 And he said to me, “Do not seal up the words of the prophecy of this book, for the time is near. (Re 10:4)11 Let the evildoer still do evil, and the filthy still be filthy, and the righteous still do right, and the holy still be holy.” (Eze 3:27; Da 12:10; 2Ti 3:13)12 “Behold, I am coming soon, bringing my recompense with me, to repay each one for what he has done. (Isa 40:10; Isa 62:11; Mt 16:27; Re 22:7; Re 22:20)13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.” (Re 1:8; Re 1:17; Re 21:6)14 Blessed are those who wash their robes,[3] so that they may have the right to the tree of life and that they may enter the city by the gates. (Ps 118:20; Re 7:14; Re 21:27; Re 22:2; Re 22:19)15 Outside are the dogs and sorcerers and the sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices falsehood. (Mt 8:12; Ga 5:19; Php 3:2; Re 21:8)16 “I, Jesus, have sent my angel to testify to you about these things for the churches. I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star.” (Nu 24:17; Isa 60:3; Mt 1:1; Mt 2:2; Re 1:1; Re 1:4; Re 2:28; Re 5:5)17 The Spirit and the Bride say, “Come.” And let the one who hears say, “Come.” And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who desires take the water of life without price. (Isa 55:1; Joh 7:37; Re 21:2; Re 21:6; Re 21:9)18 I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book, (De 4:2; De 12:32; Pr 30:6)19 and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book. (Re 21:2; Re 22:2; Re 22:14)20 He who testifies to these things says, “Surely I am coming soon.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus! (2Ti 4:8; Re 22:7; Re 22:12)21 The grace of the Lord Jesus be with all.[4] Amen.
