2 Thessalonians 1

New International Reader’s Version

1 I, Paul, am writing this letter. Silas and Timothy join me in writing. We are sending this letter to you, the members of the church in Thessalonica. You belong to God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.2 May God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace.3 Brothers and sisters, we should always thank God for you. That is only right, because your faith is growing more and more. We also thank God that the love you all have for one another is increasing.4 So among God’s churches we boast about the fact that you don’t give up easily. We boast about your faith in all the suffering and testing you are going through.5 All of this proves that when God judges, he is fair. So you will be considered worthy to enter God’s kingdom. You are suffering for his kingdom.6 God is fair. He will pay back trouble to those who give you trouble.7 He will help you who are troubled. And he will also help us. All these things will happen when the Lord Jesus appears from heaven. He will come in blazing fire. He will come with his powerful angels.8 He will punish those who don’t know God. He will punish those who don’t obey the good news about our Lord Jesus.9 They will be destroyed for ever. They will be shut out of heaven. They will never see the glory of the Lord’s strength.10 All these things will happen when he comes. On that day his glory will be seen in his holy people. Everyone who has believed will be amazed when they see him. This includes you, because you believed the witness we gave you.11 Keeping this in mind, we never stop praying for you. Our God has chosen you. We pray that he will make you worthy of his choice. We pray he will make every good thing you want to do come true. We pray that he will do this by his power. We pray that he will make perfect all that you have done by faith.12 We pray this so that the name of our Lord Jesus will receive glory through what you have done. We also pray that you will receive glory through what he has done. We pray all these things in keeping with the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.

2 Thessalonians 1

English Standard Version

1 Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy, To the church of the Thessalonians in God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: (1Th 1:1)2 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.3 We ought always to give thanks to God for you, brothers,[1] as is right, because your faith is growing abundantly, and the love of every one of you for one another is increasing. (Eph 5:20; 1Th 1:2; 2Th 2:13)4 Therefore we ourselves boast about you in the churches of God for your steadfastness and faith in all your persecutions and in the afflictions that you are enduring. (Mr 10:30; 1Co 7:17; 2Co 7:14; 1Th 1:8; 1Th 2:14; 1Th 2:19)5 This is evidence of the righteous judgment of God, that you may be considered worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you are also suffering— (Lu 20:35; Ac 14:22; Php 1:28)6 since indeed God considers it just to repay with affliction those who afflict you, (Ex 23:22; Joe 3:4; Joe 3:7; Re 6:10)7 and to grant relief to you who are afflicted as well as to us, when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with his mighty angels (Lu 17:30; Jud 1:14; Re 6:11; Re 11:18; Re 14:13)8 in flaming fire, inflicting vengeance on those who do not know God and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. (Isa 66:15; Mal 4:1; Mt 25:41; Ro 2:8; 1Co 3:13; Ga 4:8; Heb 10:27; Heb 12:29; 2Pe 3:7)9 They will suffer the punishment of eternal destruction, away from[2] the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might, (Isa 2:10; Isa 2:19; Isa 2:21; Php 3:19; 1Th 5:3; 2Th 2:8)10 when he comes on that day to be glorified in his saints, and to be marveled at among all who have believed, because our testimony to you was believed. (Ps 89:7; Isa 49:3; Joh 17:10; 1Co 1:6; 1Co 3:13; 1Th 1:10; 1Th 2:1; 1Th 2:13; 1Ti 3:16)11 To this end we always pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of his calling and may fulfill every resolve for good and every work of faith by his power, (Col 1:9; 1Th 1:3; 2Th 1:5)12 so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ. (Isa 66:5; Ac 13:48)
