1The Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread were only two days away. The chief priests and the teachers of the law were plotting to arrest Jesus secretly. They wanted to kill him.2‘But not during the feast,’ they said. ‘The people may stir up trouble.’3Jesus was in Bethany. He was at the table in the home of Simon, who had a skin disease. A woman came with a special sealed jar. It contained very expensive perfume made out of pure nard. She broke the jar open and poured the perfume on Jesus’ head.4Some of the people there became angry. They said to one another, ‘Why waste this perfume?5It could have been sold for more than a year’s pay. The money could have been given to poor people.’ So they found fault with the woman.6‘Leave her alone,’ Jesus said. ‘Why are you bothering her? She has done a beautiful thing to me.7You will always have poor people with you. You can help them any time you want to. But you will not always have me.8She did what she could. She poured perfume on my body to prepare me to be buried.9What I’m about to tell you is true. What she has done will be told anywhere the good news is preached all over the world. It will be told in memory of her.’10Judas Iscariot was one of the 12 disciples. He went to the chief priests to hand Jesus over to them.11They were delighted to hear that he would do this. They promised to give Judas money. So he watched for the right time to hand Jesus over to them.
The Last Supper
12It was the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread. That was the time to sacrifice the Passover lamb. Jesus’ disciples asked him, ‘Where do you want us to go and prepare for you to eat the Passover meal?’13So he sent out two of his disciples. He told them, ‘Go into the city. A man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow him.14He will enter a house. Say to its owner, “The Teacher asks, ‘Where is my guest room? Where can I eat the Passover meal with my disciples?’ ”15He will show you a large upstairs room. It will have furniture and will be ready. Prepare for us to eat there.’16The disciples left and went into the city. They found things just as Jesus had told them. So they prepared the Passover meal.17When evening came, Jesus arrived with the 12 disciples.18While they were at the table eating, Jesus said, ‘What I’m about to tell you is true. One of you who is eating with me will hand me over to my enemies.’19The disciples became sad. One by one they said to him, ‘Surely you don’t mean me?’20‘It is one of you,’ Jesus replied. ‘It is the one who dips bread into the bowl with me.21The Son of Man will go just as it is written about him. But how terrible it will be for the one who hands over the Son of Man! It would be better for him if he had not been born.’22While they were eating, Jesus took bread. He gave thanks and broke it. He handed it to his disciples and said, ‘Take it. This is my body.’23Then he took a cup. He gave thanks and handed it to them. All of them drank from it.24‘This is my blood of the covenant,’ he said to them. ‘It is poured out for many.25What I’m about to tell you is true. I won’t drink wine with you again until the day I drink it in God’s kingdom.’26Then they sang a hymn and went out to the Mount of Olives.
Jesus says that the disciples will turn away
27‘You will all turn away,’ Jesus told the disciples. ‘It is written, ‘ “I will strike the shepherd down. Then the sheep will be scattered.” (Zec 13:7)28But after I rise from the dead, I will go ahead of you into Galilee.’29Peter said, ‘All the others may turn away. But I will not.’30‘What I’m about to tell you is true,’ Jesus answered. ‘It will happen today, in fact tonight. Before the cockerel crows twice, you yourself will say three times that you don’t know me.’31But Peter would not give in. He said, ‘I may have to die with you. But I will never say I don’t know you.’ And all the others said the same thing.
Jesus prays in Gethsemane
32Jesus and his disciples went to a place called Gethsemane. Jesus said to them, ‘Sit here while I pray.’33He took Peter, James and John along with him. He began to be very upset and troubled.34‘My soul is very sad. I feel close to death,’ he said to them. ‘Stay here. Keep watch.’35He went a little further. Then he fell to the ground. He prayed that, if possible, the hour might pass by him.36‘Abba, Father,’ he said, ‘everything is possible for you. Take this cup of suffering away from me. But let what you want be done, not what I want.’37Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. ‘Simon’, he said to Peter, ‘are you asleep? Couldn’t you keep watch for one hour?38Watch and pray. Then you won’t fall into sin when you are tempted. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak.’39Once more Jesus went away and prayed the same thing.40Then he came back. Again he found them sleeping. They couldn’t keep their eyes open. They did not know what to say to him.41Jesus returned the third time. He said to them, ‘Are you still sleeping and resting? Enough! The hour has come. Look! The Son of Man is about to be handed over to sinners.42Get up! Let us go! Here comes the one who is handing me over to them!’
Jesus is arrested
43Just as Jesus was speaking, Judas appeared. He was one of the 12 disciples. A crowd was with him. They were carrying swords and clubs. The chief priests, the teachers of the law, and the elders had sent them.44Judas, who was going to hand Jesus over, had arranged a signal with them. ‘The one I kiss is the man,’ he said. ‘Arrest him and have the guards lead him away.’45So Judas went to Jesus at once. Judas said, ‘Rabbi!’ And he kissed Jesus.46The men grabbed Jesus and arrested him.47Then one of those standing nearby pulled his sword out. He struck the servant of the high priest and cut off his ear.48‘Am I leading a band of armed men against you?’ asked Jesus. ‘Do you have to come out with swords and clubs to capture me?49Every day I was with you. I taught in the temple courtyard, and you didn’t arrest me. But the Scriptures must come true.’50Then everyone left him and ran away.51A young man was following Jesus. The man was wearing nothing but a piece of linen cloth. When the crowd grabbed him,52he ran away naked. He left his clothing behind.
Jesus is taken to the Sanhedrin
53The crowd took Jesus to the high priest. All the chief priests, the elders, and the teachers of the law came together.54Not too far away, Peter followed Jesus. He went right into the courtyard of the high priest. There he sat with the guards. He warmed himself at the fire.55The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for something to use against Jesus. They wanted to put him to death. But they did not find any proof.56Many witnesses lied about him. But their stories did not agree.57Then some of them stood up. Here is what those false witnesses said about him.58‘We heard him say, “I will destroy this temple made by human hands. In three days I will build another temple, not made by human hands.” ’59But what they said did not agree.60Then the high priest stood up in front of them. He asked Jesus, ‘Aren’t you going to answer? What are these charges these men are bringing against you?’61But Jesus remained silent. He gave no answer. Again the high priest asked him, ‘Are you the Messiah? Are you the Son of the Blessed One?’62‘I am’, said Jesus. ‘And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One. You will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven.’63The high priest tore his clothes. ‘Why do we need any more witnesses?’ he asked.64‘You have heard him say a very evil thing against God. What do you think?’ They all found him guilty and said he must die.65Then some began to spit at him. They blindfolded him. They hit him with their fists. They said, ‘Prophesy!’ And the guards took him and beat him.
Peter says he does not know Jesus
66Peter was below in the courtyard. One of the high priest’s female servants came by.67When she saw Peter warming himself, she looked closely at him. ‘You also were with Jesus, that Nazarene,’ she said.68But Peter said he had not been with him. ‘I don’t know or understand what you’re talking about,’ he said. He went out to the entrance to the courtyard.69The servant saw him there. She said again to those standing around, ‘This fellow is one of them.’70Again he said he was not. After a little while, those standing nearby said to Peter, ‘You must be one of them. You are from Galilee.’71Then Peter began to curse. He said to them, ‘I don’t know this man you’re talking about!’72Right away the cockerel crowed the second time. Then Peter remembered what Jesus had spoken to him. ‘The cockerel will crow twice,’ he had said. ‘Before it does, you will say three times that you don’t know me.’ Peter broke down and cried.

Предателството на Юда
10Тогава Юда Искариотски, онзи, който беше един от дванадесетте, отиде при главните свещеници, за да им Го предаде. (Mt 26:14; Lu 22:3; Lu 22:4)11Те, като чуха, се зарадваха и обещаха да му дадат пари. И той търсеше сгоден случай да Го предаде.
Тайната вечеря

Предсказанието на Исус Христос за отричането на ап. Петър
30Исус му каза: Истина ти казвам, че днес, тази нощ, преди петелът да изпее два пъти, ти три пъти ще се отречеш от Мен. (Mt 26:31; Mt 26:34; Lu 22:31; Lu 22:34; Joh 13:36; Joh 13:38)31А той още по-разпалено говореше: Ако стане нужда и да умра с Тебе, пак няма да се отрека от Тебе. Същото казаха и другите.
Молитва в Гетсиманската градина
32Отидоха на едно място, наречено Гетсимания; и Той каза на учениците Си: Стойте тук, докато се помоля. (Mt 26:36; Lu 22:39; Joh 18:1)33И взе със Себе Си Петър, Яков и Йоан; и започна да се ужасява и измъчва.34И им каза: Душата Ми е прескръбна до смърт; постойте тук и бдете. (Joh 12:27)35И като отиде малко напред, падна на земята; и се молеше, ако е възможно, да Го отмине този час, като казваше:36Авва, Отче, за Тебе всичко е възможно; отмини Ме с тази чаша; не обаче както Аз искам, но както Тиискаш. (Mt 26:39; Joh 5:30; Joh 6:38; Ro 8:15; Ga 4:6; Php 2:8; Heb 5:7)37И дойде, намери ги заспали; и каза на Петър: Симоне, спиш ли? Не можа ли един час да бдиш?38Бдете и се молете, за да не паднете в изкушение. Духът е бодър, а тялото – немощно. (Lu 22:40; Ro 7:23; Ga 5:17)39И пак отиде и се помоли, като каза същите думи.40И като дойде пак, намери ги заспали, защото очите им бяха натежали; и не знаеха какво да Му отговорят.41И дойде трети път и им каза: Още ли спите и почивате? Достатъчно! Дойде часът! Ето, Човешкият Син бива предаден в ръцете на грешниците. (Joh 13:1)42Станете да вървим; ето, приближи се онзи, който Ме предава. (Mt 26:46; Joh 18:1; Joh 18:2)
Залавянето на Исус Христос
43И веднага, докато Той говореше, дойде Юда, един от дванадесетте, и с него едно множество с мечове и сопи, изпратени от главните свещеници, книжниците и старейшините. (Mt 26:47; Lu 22:47; Joh 18:1; Joh 18:3)44А онзи, който Го предаваше, беше им дал знак, като каза: Когото целуна за поздрав – Той е; хванете Го и Го заведете, като Го пазите здраво.45И когато дойде, веднага се приближи до Него и каза: Учителю! И Го целуна.46И те сложиха ръце на Него и Го хванаха.47А един от стоящите там измъкна меча си, удари слугата на първосвещеника и му отсече ухото.48Исус заговори и им каза: Като срещу разбойник ли сте излезли с мечове и сопи да Ме уловите? (Mt 26:55; Lu 22:52)49Всеки ден бях при вас и поучавах в храма, и не Ме хванахте; но това стана, за да се сбъднат Писанията. (Job 19:13; Ps 22:6; Ps 69:8; Ps 88:8; Isa 53:12; Lu 22:37; Lu 24:44)50Тогава всички Го оставиха и се разбягаха.51И един младеж Го следваше, обвит с плащеница на голо; и те го хванаха.52А той, като остави плащеницата, избяга гол.
Исус Христос на съд пред Синедриона
53И заведоха Исус при първосвещеника, при когото се събраха и всички главни свещеници, и старейшините, и книжниците. (Mt 26:57; Lu 22:54; Lu 22:63; Joh 18:13; Joh 18:19)54А Петър Го беше следвал отдалеч до вътре в двора на първосвещеника и седеше заедно със слугите, и се грееше на огъня.55И главните свещеници и целият Синедрион търсеха свидетелство против Исус, за да Го предадат на смърт, но не намериха. (Ps 27:12; Ps 35:11; Mt 26:59)56Защото мнозина лъжесвидетелстваха против Него, но свидетелствата им се различаваха.57После някои станаха и лъжесвидетелстваха против Него, като казаха:58Ние Го чухме да казва: Аз ще разруша този ръкотворен храм и за три дни ще съградя друг, неръкотворен. (Mr 15:29; Joh 2:19)59Но и в това свидетелствата им се различаваха.60Тогава първосвещеникът се изправи насред Синедриона и попита Исус: Нищо ли не отговаряш? Какво свидетелстват тези против Теб? (Mt 26:62)61А Той мълчеше и не отговори нищо. Първосвещеникът пак Го попита: Ти ли си Христос, Син на Благословения? (Isa 53:7; Mt 26:63; Ac 8:32; Heb 1:5)62А Исус каза: Аз съм; и ще видите Човешкия Син, седящ отдясно на Всесилния[1] и идещ с небесните облаци. (Mt 24:30; Mt 26:64; Lu 22:69; 2Th 1:10)63Тогава първосвещеникът раздра дрехите си и каза: Каква нужда имаме вече от свидетели?64Чухте богохулството; как ви се вижда? И те всички Го осъдиха, че заслужава смъртно наказание.65И някои започнаха да Го заплюват, да Му закриват лицето, да Го блъскат и да Му казват: Познай! И служителите, като Го хванаха, Му удряха плесници.
Отричането на ап. Петър
66И когато Петър беше долу, на двора, дойде една от слугините на първосвещеника; (Mt 26:58; Mt 26:69; Lu 22:54; Lu 22:55; Lu 22:56; Joh 18:15; Joh 18:25)67и като видя Петър, че се грее, вгледа се в него и каза: И ти беше с Исус Назарянина.68А той се отрече и каза: Нито зная, нито разбирам какво говориш. И излезе вън в преддверието и петелът пропя. (Mt 26:71; Lu 22:58; Joh 18:25)69Но слугинята го видя и пак започна да казва на стоящите там: Този е от тях.70А той пак се отрече. След малко стоящите там пак казаха на Петър: Наистина си от тях, защото си галилеянин и говорът те издава. (Mt 26:73; Lu 22:59; Joh 18:26; Ac 2:7)71А той започна да проклина и да се кълне: Не познавам Този човек, за Когото говорите.72И начаса петелът пропя втори път. И Петър си спомни думите, които Исус му беше казал: Преди петелът да пропее два пъти, три пъти ще се отречеш от Мен. И като се замисли за това, заплака. (Mt 26:75; Mr 14:30)
