1LORD, the king is filled with joy because you are strong. How great is his joy because you help him win his battles!2You have given him what his heart wished for. You haven’t kept back from him what his lips asked for.3You came to greet him with rich blessings. You placed a crown of pure gold on his head.4He asked you for life, and you gave it to him. You promised him days that would never end.5His glory is great because you helped him win his battles. You have honoured him with glory and majesty.6You have given him blessings that will never end. You have made him glad and joyful because you are with him.7The king trusts in the LORD. The faithful love of the Most High God will keep the king secure.8You, the king, will capture all your enemies. Your right hand will take hold of them.9When you appear for battle, you will burn them up as if they were in a flaming furnace. The LORD will swallow them up in his great anger. His fire will burn them up.10You will wipe their children from the face of the earth. You will remove them from the human race.11Your enemies make evil plans against you. They think up evil things to do. But they can’t succeed.12You will make them turn their backs and run away when you aim your arrows at them.13LORD, may you be honoured because you are strong. We will sing and praise your might.
1To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David. O Lord, in your strength the king rejoices, and in your salvation how greatly he exults! (Ps 8,2; Ps 9,14; Ps 28,7)2You have given him his heart’s desire and have not withheld the request of his lips. (Ps 20,4)3For you meet him with rich blessings; you set a crown of fine gold upon his head. (2Sam 12,30; 1Chr 20,2; Ps 19,10; Ps 59,10)4He asked life of you; you gave it to him, length of days forever and ever. (2Sam 7,19; 1Kön 1,31; Neh 2,3; Ps 61,6; Ps 91,16)5His glory is great through your salvation; splendor and majesty you bestow on him. (Ps 8,5; Ps 45,3; Ps 96,6)6For you make him most blessed forever;[1] you make him glad with the joy of your presence. (Ps 16,11; Ps 45,7)7For the king trusts in the Lord, and through the steadfast love of the Most High he shall not be moved. (Ps 10,6; Ps 16,8)8Your hand will find out all your enemies; your right hand will find out those who hate you. (Jes 10,10)9You will make them as a blazing oven when you appear. The Lord will swallow them up in his wrath, and fire will consume them. (Hi 20,26; Ps 2,5; Ps 18,8; Ps 50,3; Ps 83,14; Ps 97,3; Jes 26,11; Dan 7,10; Hab 3,5; Mal 4,1)10You will destroy their descendants from the earth, and their offspring from among the children of man. (1Kön 13,34; Hi 18,16; Hi 18,19; Ps 34,16; Ps 37,28; Ps 109,13; Jes 14,20)11Though they plan evil against you, though they devise mischief, they will not succeed. (Ps 2,1; Ps 10,2)12For you will put them to flight; you will aim at their faces with your bows. (Ps 7,12; Ps 11,2; Ps 18,40)13Be exalted, O Lord, in your strength! We will sing and praise your power.
