Rut steht treu zu ihrer Schwiegermutter

1 In der Zeit, als die Richter das Volk Israel führten^[1], gab es eine Hungersnot im Land. Darum machte sich ein Mann aus Betlehem im ´Stammesgebiet von` Juda auf den Weg, um zusammen mit seiner Frau und seinen beiden Söhnen im Land Moab Zuflucht zu suchen. 2 Der Mann hieß Elimelech^[2], seine Frau hieß Noomi^[3], und die Namen der Söhne waren Machlon und Kiljon^[4]. Ihre Familie gehörte zur Sippe Efrat, die in Betlehem im ´Stammesgebiet von` Juda lebte. Während sie im Land Moab wohnten, 3 starb Elimelech, der Mann Noomis, und Noomi blieb mit ihren beiden Söhnen allein zurück. 4 Die beiden heirateten zwei moabitische Frauen namens Orpa^[5] und Rut^[6]. Nachdem die Familie etwa zehn Jahre in Moab gelebt hatte^[7], 5 starben auch Machlon und Kiljon. Nun war Noomi ganz allein, ohne Mann und ohne Söhne. 6 Da machte sie sich zusammen mit ihren Schwiegertöchtern auf den Weg, um in ihre Heimat zurückzukehren^[8]. Sie hatte nämlich in Moab erfahren, dass der HERR für sein Volk gesorgt hatte und es ´in Juda` wieder zu essen gab. 7 Also verließ sie den Ort, an dem sie gelebt hatte, und reiste mit ihren Schwiegertöchtern in das Land Juda zurück. 8 Unterwegs sagte Noomi zu ihnen: »Kehrt wieder um nach Hause in die Familien eurer Mütter. Der HERR erweise euch Güte, so wie ihr sie an den Verstorbenen und an mir erwiesen habt! 9 Der HERR sorge dafür, dass ihr ein neues Zuhause bei einem anderen Mann findet!« Sie küsste die Frauen ´zum Abschied`, doch die beiden begannen laut zu weinen 10 und widersprachen: »Nein, wir wollen mit dir zu deinem Volk zurückkehren!« 11 Noomi entgegnete: »Es ist besser, wenn ihr ´nach Hause` geht, meine Töchter! Warum wollt ihr mit mir kommen? Ich werde sicher keine Söhne mehr zur Welt bringen, die eure Männer werden könnten! 12 Kehrt lieber um, meine Töchter, und geht zurück! Ich bin zu alt, um noch einmal zu heiraten. Und selbst wenn ich die Hoffnung nicht aufgeben würde, ja, wenn ich noch heute Nacht einen Mann bekommen und dann Söhne zur Welt bringen würde – 13 wolltet ihr dann etwa darauf warten, bis sie erwachsen sind? Wolltet ihr so lange allein bleiben^[9] und keinen anderen Mann heiraten? Nein, meine Töchter! Das bittere Schicksal, das mir auferlegt wurde, ist für euch zu schwer.^[10] Mich hat die Hand des HERRN getroffen – ´nicht euch`!« 14 Da weinten die beiden noch lauter. Orpa küsste ihre Schwiegermutter ´und verabschiedete sich`, aber Rut blieb bei ihr. 15 Noomi sagte zu ihr: »Du siehst, deine Schwägerin ist zurückgekehrt zu ihrem Volk und zu ihrem Gott. Kehr ´auch du` um und geh mit ihr!« 16 Aber Rut entgegnete: »Dränge mich nicht, dich zu verlassen! Ich will mich nicht von dir trennen! Wohin du gehst, dahin will auch ich gehen. Wo du bleibst, da bleibe ich auch. Dein Volk ist mein Volk, und dein Gott ist mein Gott. 17 Wo du stirbst, da will auch ich sterben, und dort will ich begraben werden. Die Strafe des HERRN soll mich treffen, ´wenn ich mich nicht an meine Worte halte`: Nur der Tod wird mich von dir trennen!«

Rut und Noomi kommen in Betlehem an

18 Als Noomi merkte, dass Rut fest entschlossen war, mit ihr zu gehen, gab sie es auf, sie ´zur Umkehr` zu überreden. 19 Die beiden setzten ihre Reise fort, bis sie Betlehem erreichten. Als sie dort ankamen, geriet die ganze Stadt ihretwegen in Aufregung. Die Frauen fragten: »Ist das nicht Noomi?« 20 »Nennt mich nicht Noomi (›die Liebliche‹)!«, entgegnete sie. »Nennt mich Mara (›die Bittere‹). Denn der allmächtige Gott hat mir ein sehr bitteres Schicksal auferlegt. 21 Als ich von hier fortging, hatte ich einen Mann und zwei Söhne, aber jetzt lässt der HERR mich arm und schutzlos zurückkehren.^[11] Warum wollt ihr mich weiter Noomi nennen? Der HERR hat sich gegen mich gestellt.^[12] Der allmächtige Gott hat mich ins Unglück gestürzt.« 22 So kehrte Noomi mit ihrer moabitischen Schwiegertochter Rut aus dem Land Moab nach Betlehem zurück. Als sie ankamen, hatte gerade die Gerstenernte begonnen.

1 Now it came to pass in the days when the judges ruled, that there was a famine in the land. And a certain man of Bethlehemjudah went to sojourn in the country of Moab, he, and his wife, and his two sons. 2 And the name of the man was Elimelech, and the name of his wife Naomi, and the name of his two sons Mahlon and Chilion, Ephrathites of Bethlehemjudah. And they came into the country of Moab, and continued there. 3 And Elimelech Naomi' husband died; and she was left, and her two sons. 4 And they took them wives of the women of Moab; the name of the one was Orpah, and the name of the other Ruth: and they dwelled there about ten years. 5 And Mahlon and Chilion died also both of them; and the woman was left of her two sons and her husband. 6 Then she arose with her daughters in law, that she might return from the country of Moab: for she had heard in the country of Moab how that the LORD had visited his people in giving them bread. 7 Wherefore she went forth out of the place where she was, and her two daughters in law with her; and they went on the way to return unto the land of Judah. 8 And Naomi said unto her two daughters in law, Go, return each to her mother' house: the LORD deal kindly with you, as ye have dealt with the dead, and with me. 9 The LORD grant you that ye may find rest, each of you in the house of her husband. Then she kissed them; and they lifted up their voice, and wept. 10 And they said unto her, Surely we will return with thee unto thy people. 11 And Naomi said, Turn again, my daughters: why will ye go with me? are there yet any more sons in my womb, that they may be your husbands? 12 Turn again, my daughters, go your way ; for I am too old to have an husband. If I should say, I have hope, if I should have an husband also to night, and should also bear sons; 13 Would ye tarry for them till they were grown? would ye stay for them from having husbands? nay, my daughters; for it grieveth me much for your sakes that the hand of the LORD is gone out against me. 14 And they lifted up their voice, and wept again: and Orpah kissed her mother in law; but Ruth clave unto her. 15 And she said, Behold, thy sister in law is gone back unto her people, and unto her gods: return thou after thy sister in law. 16 And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God: 17 Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the LORD do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and me. 18 When she saw that she was stedfastly minded to go with her, then she left speaking unto her. 19 So they two went until they came to Bethlehem. And it came to pass, when they were come to Bethlehem, that all the city was moved about them, and they said, Is this Naomi? 20 And she said unto them, Call me not Naomi, call me Mara: for the Almighty hath dealt very bitterly with me. 21 I went out full, and the LORD hath brought me home again empty: why then call ye me Naomi, seeing the LORD hath testified against me, and the Almighty hath afflicted me? 22 So Naomi returned, and Ruth the Moabitess, her daughter in law, with her, which returned out of the country of Moab: and they came to Bethlehem in the beginning of barley harvest.
