Wahre und falsche Frömmigkeit …

1 »Hütet euch, eure Frömmigkeit^[1] vor den Menschen zur Schau zu stellen! Sonst habt ihr von eurem Vater im Himmel keinen Lohn mehr zu erwarten.«

… beim Geben

2 »Wenn du zum Beispiel den Armen etwas gibst, lass es nicht vor dir her mit Posaunen ankündigen^[2], wie es die Heuchler in den Synagogen und auf den Gassen tun, um von den Leuten geehrt zu werden. Ich sage euch: Sie haben ihren Lohn damit schon erhalten. 3 Wenn du den Armen etwas gibst, soll deine linke Hand nicht wissen, was die rechte tut. 4 Was du gibst, soll verborgen bleiben. Dann wird dein Vater, der ins Verborgene sieht, dich belohnen^[3].«

… beim Beten

5 Mk 11,25-26; »Und wenn ihr betet, macht es nicht wie die Heuchler, die sich zum Gebet gern in die Synagogen und an die Straßenecken stellen, um von den Leuten gesehen zu werden. Ich sage euch: Sie haben ihren Lohn damit schon erhalten. (Lk 11,2) 6 Wenn du beten willst, geh in dein Zimmer, schließ die Tür, und dann bete zu deinem Vater, der ´auch` im Verborgenen ´gegenwärtig` ist; und dein Vater, der ins Verborgene sieht, wird dich belohnen. 7 Beim Beten sollt ihr nicht leere Worte aneinander reihen wie die Heiden, ´die Gott nicht kennen`. Sie meinen, sie werden erhört, wenn sie viele Worte machen. 8 Macht es nicht wie sie, denn euer Vater weiß, was ihr braucht, und zwar schon bevor ihr ihn darum bittet. 9 Ihr sollt so beten: Unser Vater im Himmel! Dein Name werde geheiligt, 10 dein Reich komme, dein Wille geschehe auf der Erde, wie er im Himmel geschieht. 11 Gib uns heute unser tägliches Brot^[4]. 12 Und vergib uns unsere Schuld, wie auch wir denen vergeben haben^[5], die an uns schuldig wurden. 13 Und lass uns nicht in Versuchung geraten, sondern errette^[6] uns vor dem Bösen^[7]. 14 Wenn^[8] ihr den Menschen ihre Verfehlungen vergebt, wird euer Vater im Himmel euch auch vergeben. 15 Wenn ihr aber den Menschen nicht vergebt, wird euer Vater ´im Himmel` euch eure Verfehlungen auch nicht vergeben.«

… beim Fasten

16 »Wenn ihr fastet, setzt keine Leidensmiene auf wie die Heuchler. Sie vernachlässigen ihr Aussehen^[9], damit die Leute ihnen ansehen, dass sie fasten. Ich sage euch: Sie haben ihren Lohn damit schon erhalten. 17 Wenn du fastest, pflege dein Haar^[10] und wasche dir das Gesicht ´wie sonst auch`, 18 damit die Leute dir nicht ansehen, dass du fastest; nur dein Vater, der ´auch` im Verborgenen ´gegenwärtig` ist, ´soll es wissen`. Dann wird dein Vater, der ins Verborgene sieht, dich belohnen.«

Zweierlei Reichtum

19 »Sammelt euch keine Reichtümer hier auf der Erde, wo Motten und Rost^[11] sie zerfressen und wo Diebe einbrechen und sie stehlen. (Lk 12,15; Lk 12,33) 20 Sammelt euch stattdessen Reichtümer im Himmel, wo weder Motten noch Rost sie zerfressen und wo auch keine Diebe einbrechen und sie stehlen. 21 Denn wo dein Reichtum ist, da wird auch dein Herz sein.«

Licht und Finsternis. Das Gleichnis vom Auge

22 »Das Auge gibt dem Körper Licht. Ist dein Auge gut^[12], dann ist dein ganzer Körper^[13] im Licht. (Lk 11,34) 23 Ist dein Auge jedoch schlecht, dann ist dein ganzer Körper im Finstern. Wenn nun das Licht in dir Finsternis ist, was für eine Finsternis wird das sein!«

Gott oder der Mammon

24 »Ein Mensch kann nicht zwei Herren dienen. Er wird dem einen ergeben sein und den anderen abweisen.^[14] Für den einen wird er sich ganz einsetzen, und den anderen wird er verachten. Ihr könnt nicht Gott dienen und zugleich dem Mammon^[15].« (Lk 16,13)

Gottes Reich und irdische Sorgen

25 »Deshalb sage ich euch: Macht euch keine Sorgen um das, was ihr an Essen und Trinken zum Leben und an Kleidung für euren Körper braucht. Ist das Leben nicht wichtiger als die Nahrung, und ist der Körper nicht wichtiger als die Kleidung? (Lk 12,22) 26 Seht euch die Vögel^[16] an! Sie säen nicht, sie ernten nicht, sie sammeln keine Vorräte^[17], und euer Vater im Himmel ernährt sie doch. Seid ihr nicht viel mehr wert als sie? 27 Wer von euch kann dadurch, dass er sich Sorgen macht, sein Leben auch nur um eine einzige Stunde verlängern^[18]? 28 Und warum macht ihr euch Sorgen um eure Kleidung? Seht euch die Lilien auf dem Feld an und lernt von ihnen! Sie wachsen, ohne sich abzumühen und ohne zu spinnen ´und zu weben`. 29 Und doch sage ich euch: Sogar Salomo in all seiner Pracht war nicht so schön gekleidet wie eine von ihnen. 30 Wenn Gott die Feldblumen, die heute blühen und morgen ins Feuer geworfen werden^[19], so herrlich kleidet, wird er sich dann nicht erst recht um euch kümmern, ihr Kleingläubigen? 31 Macht euch also keine Sorgen! Fragt nicht: Was sollen wir essen? Was sollen wir trinken? Was sollen wir anziehen? 32 Denn um diese Dinge geht es den Heiden, ´die Gott nicht kennen`. Euer Vater im Himmel aber weiß, dass ihr das alles braucht. 33 Es soll euch zuerst um Gottes Reich und Gottes Gerechtigkeit gehen, dann wird euch das Übrige alles dazugegeben. 34 Macht euch keine Sorgen um den nächsten Tag! Der nächste Tag wird für sich selbst sorgen. Es genügt, dass jeder Tag seine eigene Last mit sich bringt.^[20]«

1 Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven. 2 Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. 3 But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth: 4 That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly. 5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Are ye not much better than they? 27 Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? 28 And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: 29 And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? 31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? 32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. 33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. 34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
