Drei Jünger werden Zeugen der Herrlichkeit Jesu

2 Sechs Tage später nahm Jesus Petrus, Jakobus und Johannes mit sich und stieg mit ihnen auf einen hohen Berg, wo sie ganz allein waren. Dort veränderte sich vor ihren Augen sein Aussehen. (Mt 17,1; Lk 9,28) 3 Seine Kleider begannen leuchtend weiß zu glänzen, so hell, wie es kein Färber^[3] auf der ganzen Erde hätte machen können. 4 Dann erschienen Elia und Mose vor ihnen^[4]; die beiden redeten mit Jesus. 5 Da ergriff Petrus das Wort. »Rabbi«, sagte er zu Jesus, »wie gut ist es, dass wir hier sind! Wir wollen drei Hütten bauen^[5], eine für dich, eine für Mose und eine für Elia.« 6 Petrus wusste nämlich nicht, was er sagen sollte^[6], so erschrocken waren er und die beiden anderen Jünger. 7 Da kam eine Wolke und warf ihren Schatten auf sie^[7], und aus der Wolke sprach eine Stimme: »Dies ist mein geliebter Sohn; auf ihn sollt ihr hören!« 8 Und als sie um sich schauten, sahen sie auf einmal niemand mehr außer Jesus; er allein war noch bei ihnen.

Jesus und Elia

9 Während sie den Berg hinunterstiegen, schärfte Jesus den drei Jüngern ein, niemand zu erzählen, was sie erlebt^[8] hatten, bis der Menschensohn von den Toten auferstanden sei. (Mt 17,9) 10 Diese Bemerkung Jesu ließ sie nicht mehr los, und sie überlegten miteinander^[9], was er wohl gemeint hatte, als er von der Auferstehung von den Toten sprach. 11 Schließlich fragten sie Jesus: »Warum sagen die Schriftgelehrten, dass zuerst Elia kommen muss?« 12 Jesus erwiderte: »Es stimmt, zuerst kommt Elia und stellt alles wieder her. Doch wieso heißt es in der Schrift, dass der Menschensohn^[10] vieles erleiden muss und von den Menschen verachtet sein wird?^[11] (Ps 22,1; Ps 118,22) 13 Ich sage euch aber: Elia ist bereits gekommen, und sie haben mit ihm gemacht, was sie wollten; so steht es ja auch über ihn in der Schrift.«

Heilung eines besessenen Jungen

14 Mt 17,14-21; Als sie zu den anderen Jüngern zurückkamen, waren diese von einer großen Menschenmenge umringt, darunter einige Schriftgelehrte, die ein Streitgespräch mit ihnen führten. (Lk 9,37) 15 Sobald die Menge Jesus sah, geriet sie in große Erregung. Alle liefen zu ihm hin und begrüßten ihn. 16 »Worüber streitet ihr euch denn?^[12]«, fragte er. 17 Einer aus der Menge antwortete: »Meister, ich bin mit meinem Sohn gekommen; ich wollte mit ihm zu dir, weil er einen stummen^[13] Geist hat. 18 Wo immer dieser ihn packt, wirft er ihn zu Boden; dem Jungen tritt Schaum vor den Mund, er knirscht mit den Zähnen und wird ganz starr. Ich habe deine Jünger gebeten, den Geist auszutreiben, doch sie konnten es nicht.« 19 »Was seid ihr nur für eine ungläubige Generation!«, sagte Jesus zu ihnen. »Wie lange soll ich noch bei euch sein? Wie lange soll ich euch noch ertragen? Bringt den Jungen zu mir!« 20 Man brachte ihn, und sowie der Geist Jesus erblickte, riss er den Jungen hin und her, sodass dieser hinfiel und sich mit Schaum vor dem Mund auf dem Boden wälzte. 21 »Wie lange geht das schon so mit ihm?«, fragte Jesus den Vater des Jungen. »Von klein auf«, antwortete der Mann. 22 »Oft hat der Geist ihn sogar ins Feuer oder ins Wasser geworfen, um ihn umzubringen. Doch wenn es dir möglich ist, etwas zu tun, dann hab Erbarmen mit uns und hilf uns!« – 23 »Wenn es dir möglich ist, sagst du?«, entgegnete Jesus. »Für den, der glaubt, ist alles möglich.« 24 Da rief der Vater des Jungen: »Ich glaube! Hilf mir heraus aus meinem Unglauben!« 25 Als Jesus sah, dass immer mehr Leute zusammenliefen, trat er dem bösen^[14] Geist mit Macht entgegen. »Du stummer und tauber^[15] Geist«, sagte er, »ich befehle dir: Verlass diesen Jungen sofort und geh nicht wieder in ihn hinein!« 26 Da schrie der Geist auf, riss den Jungen heftig hin und her und verließ ihn. Der Junge blieb regungslos liegen^[16], sodass die meisten dachten, er sei tot. 27 Doch Jesus ergriff ihn bei der Hand, um ihn aufzurichten. Da stand der Junge auf. 28 Als Jesus ins Haus gegangen war und seine Jünger mit ihm allein waren, fragten sie ihn: »Warum konnten denn wir den Geist nicht austreiben?« 29 Jesus erwiderte: »Diese Art ´von Dämonen` kann durch nichts anderes ausgetrieben werden als durch Gebet^[17].«

Jesus kündigt zum zweiten Mal sein Leiden und Sterben und seine Auferstehung an

30 Sie gingen von dort weiter und zogen durch Galiläa. Jesus wollte jedoch nicht, dass jemand davon erfuhr, (Mt 17,22; Lk 9,44) 31 denn er hatte seinen Jüngern wichtige Dinge zu sagen^[18]. »Der Menschensohn wird in die Hände der Menschen gegeben«, erklärte er, »und sie werden ihn töten; doch drei Tage, nachdem man ihn getötet hat^[19], wird er auferstehen.« 32 Die Jünger konnten mit dieser Aussage nichts anfangen, aber sie wagten auch nicht, ihn zu fragen.

Die Frage nach der Rangordnung unter den Jüngern

33 Sie kamen nach Kafarnaum. Zu Hause angelangt, fragte Jesus seine Jünger: »Worüber habt ihr unterwegs gesprochen?« (Mt 18,1; Lk 9,46) 34 Sie schwiegen, denn sie hatten sich auf dem Weg gestritten, wer von ihnen wohl der Größte sei. 35 Da setzte sich Jesus, rief die Zwölf zu sich und sagte zu ihnen: »Wenn jemand der Erste sein will, soll er der Letzte von allen und der Diener aller sein.« 36 Er nahm ein Kind, stellte es in ihre Mitte, schloss es in seine Arme und sagte: 37 »Wer solch ein Kind um meinetwillen^[20] aufnimmt, der nimmt mich auf; und wer mich aufnimmt, der nimmt nicht mich auf, sondern den, der mich gesandt hat.«

Wer nicht gegen uns ist, der ist für uns

38 Johannes sagte zu Jesus: »Meister, wir haben gesehen, wie jemand in deinem Namen Dämonen austrieb. Wir haben versucht, ihn daran zu hindern, weil er sich nicht zu uns hält^[21].« (Mt 10,42; Lk 9,49) 39 Jesus erwiderte: »Hindert ihn nicht! Denn jemand, der unter Berufung auf meinen Namen ein Wunder tut, kann nicht gleichzeitig schlecht von mir reden. 40 Wer nicht gegen uns ist, der ist für uns. 41 Ja, wer euch auch nur einen Becher Wasser zu trinken gibt, weil ihr Christus angehört, der wird – das versichere ich euch – ganz gewiss nicht ohne Lohn bleiben^[22].«

Warnung vor Verführung

42 »Wer aber einen von diesen gering Geachteten^[23], die an mich glauben, zu Fall bringt, der käme noch gut weg, wenn man ihm einen Mühlstein^[24] um den Hals legen und ihn damit ins Meer werfen würde. (Mt 18,6; Lk 17,1) 43-44 Und wenn es deine Hand ist, durch die du zu Fall kommst, dann hau sie ab! Es ist besser, du gehst verstümmelt ins Leben ein, als dass du beide Hände behältst und in die Hölle musst, wo ein nie erlöschendes Feuer brennt.^[25] 45-46 Und wenn es dein Fuß ist, durch den du zu Fall kommst, dann hau ihn ab! Es ist besser, du gehst als Krüppel ins Leben ein, als dass du beide Füße behältst und in die Hölle geworfen wirst. 47 Und wenn es dein Auge ist, durch das du zu Fall kommst, dann reiß es aus! Es ist besser, du gehst einäugig ins Reich Gottes ein, als dass du beide Augen behältst und in die Hölle geworfen wirst, 48 wo ›die Qual nicht endet^[26] und das Feuer nicht erlischt‹. 49 Jeder muss^[27] mit Feuer gesalzen werden^[28].^[29] (3Mo 2,13) 50 Salz ist etwas Gutes. Wenn jedoch das Salz seine Kraft verliert, womit soll man sie ihm wiedergeben^[30]? Habt Salz in euch, und haltet Frieden untereinander!«
