1David sagte sich: »Eines Tages wird Saul mich doch noch erwischen und umbringen.[1] Das Beste wird sein, wenn ich so schnell wie möglich ins Gebiet der Philister fliehe. Dann wird Saul aufhören, überall in Israel nach mir zu suchen, und ich habe endlich Ruhe vor ihm.«2So zog David mit seinen sechshundert Männern über die Grenze zu König Achisch, dem Sohn Maochs. Achisch herrschte über ´die Philisterstadt` Gat.3David ließ sich mit seinen Männern und deren Familien bei ihm nieder. Auch Davids beide Frauen waren mitgekommen: Ahinoam aus Jesreel und Abigajil aus Karmel, die Witwe Nabals.4Als Saul erfuhr, dass David nach Gat geflohen war, suchte er nicht länger nach ihm.5David sagte zu Achisch: »Wenn du mir wohlgesinnt bist, dann lass mich in eine deiner Städte auf dem Land ziehen. Warum sollte dein Diener unbedingt bei dir in der Königsstadt wohnen?«6Achisch überließ ihm noch am selben Tag die Stadt Ziklag. Darum gehört Ziklag bis heute den Königen von Juda.7David wohnte insgesamt ein Jahr und vier Monate im Gebiet der Philister.8´Von Ziklag aus` unternahm David mit seinen Männern Raubzüge gegen die Geschuriter, die Girsiter und die Amalekiter. All diese Stämme lebten seit langer Zeit in dem Gebiet, das sich bis nach Schur und bis zur Grenze Ägyptens erstreckte.9Bei seinen Überfällen ließ David weder Männer noch Frauen am Leben. Die Schafe und Ziegen sowie die Rinder, Esel und Kamele nahm er als Beute mit. Wenn er zu Achisch zurückkam,10fragte dieser ihn ´jedes Mal`: »Welches Gebiet habt ihr heute überfallen?« »Den Süden Judas«, antwortete David dann, oder: »das südliche Gebiet der Jerachmeeliter«, oder: »das südliche Gebiet der Keniter.«11David ließ keinen Bewohner ´der überfallenen Orte` am Leben und brachte keine Gefangenen mit nach Gat, damit niemand verraten konnte, was er wirklich getan hatte. Solange er im Gebiet der Philister wohnte, ging er stets auf diese Weise vor.12Achisch vertraute David und dachte: »Er hat sich bei seinen Landsleuten so verhasst gemacht, dass er gar keine andere Wahl hat, als für immer in meinem Dienst zu bleiben.«

1And David said in his heart, I shall now perish one day by the hand of Saul: there is nothing better for me than that I should speedily escape into the land of the Philistines; and Saul shall despair of me, to seek me any more in any coast of Israel: so shall I escape out of his hand.2And David arose, and he passed over with the six hundred men that were with him unto Achish, the son of Maoch, king of Gath.3And David dwelt with Achish at Gath, he and his men, every man with his household, even David with his two wives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the Carmelitess, Nabal' wife.4And it was told Saul that David was fled to Gath: and he sought no more again for him.5And David said unto Achish, If I have now found grace in thine eyes, let them give me a place in some town in the country, that I may dwell there: for why should thy servant dwell in the royal city with thee?6Then Achish gave him Ziklag that day: wherefore Ziklag pertaineth unto the kings of Judah unto this day.7And the time that David dwelt in the country of the Philistines was a full year and four months.8And David and his men went up, and invaded the Geshurites, and the Gezrites, and the Amalekites: for those nations were of old the inhabitants of the land, as thou goest to Shur, even unto the land of Egypt.9And David smote the land, and left neither man nor woman alive, and took away the sheep, and the oxen, and the asses, and the camels, and the apparel, and returned, and came to Achish.10And Achish said, Whither have ye made a road to day?
