Gott erscheint Jakob zum zweiten Mal in Bet-El

1 Gott sagte zu Jakob: »Zieh von hier fort und lass dich in Bet-El nieder. Errichte mir dort einen Altar, denn als du auf der Flucht vor deinem Bruder Esau warst, bin ich dir dort erschienen.« 2 Jakob befahl seiner Familie und allen anderen, die zu ihm gehörten: »Werft alle Götterfiguren weg, die ihr noch bei euch habt, reinigt euch und zieht frische Kleidung an! 3 Wir werden aufbrechen und nach Bet-El ziehen. Dort will ich einen Altar für Gott errichten, denn er hat mich in schweren Zeiten erhört und auf meinem Weg begleitet.« 4 Da gaben sie Jakob all ihre Götterfiguren sowie die Ohrringe, ´die sie als Amulette trugen`. Jakob vergrub alles unter der Terebinthe, die bei Sichem steht. 5 Dann brachen sie auf. Gott versetzte die Einwohner der umliegenden Städte in Angst und Schrecken, darum wagte niemand, Jakob und seine Familie zu verfolgen. 6 Schließlich erreichte Jakob mit allen, die zu ihm gehörten, den Ort Lus, der auch Bet-El genannt wird. Auch Lus liegt im Land Kanaan. 7 Dort errichtete Jakob einen Altar und nannte die Opferstätte El-Bet-El (»Gott von Bet-El«). Denn hier hatte Gott sich ihm offenbart, als er vor seinem Bruder fliehen musste. 8 In dieser Zeit starb Rebekkas Dienerin Debora, die Rebekka gestillt und aufgezogen hatte. Sie wurde im Tal von Bet-El unter einer Eiche begraben, die seitdem »Träneneiche« heißt. 9 Gott erschien Jakob erneut und segnete ihn. Es war das zweite Mal, seit er Mesopotamien verlassen hatte. 10 »Man nennt dich Jakob«, sagte er, »aber man soll dich nicht mehr Jakob nennen, sondern Israel. Das ist dein neuer Name.^[1]« (1Mo 25,26; 1Mo 32,29) 11 Weiter sagte Gott zu ihm: »Ich bin Gott, der Allmächtige. Du sollst fruchtbar sein und viele Nachkommen haben. Nicht nur ein Volk, sondern eine ganze Schar von Völkern sollen aus dir hervorgehen. Sogar Könige werden von dir abstammen. 12 Dir und deinen Nachkommen werde ich das Land geben, das ich Abraham und Isaak zugesagt habe.« 13 Dann verließ Gott den Ort, an dem er mit Jakob gesprochen hatte, und erhob sich ´zum Himmel` empor. 14 Jakob errichtete an dieser Stelle einen Gedenkstein. Er goss ´Wein als` Trankopfer darüber und besprengte ihn mit Öl, ´um ihn Gott zu weihen`. 15 Weil Gott dort mit ihm geredet hatte, nannte er den Ort Bet-El (»Haus Gottes«).

Benjamins Geburt und Rahels Tod

16 Danach verließ Jakob mit allen, die zu ihm gehörten, Bet-El und zog weiter. Als sie nur noch ein kurzes Stück von Efrata entfernt waren, setzten bei Rahel die Wehen ein. Es wurde eine sehr schwere Geburt. 17 Als Rahels Schmerzen unerträglich wurden, sagte die Hebamme zu ihr: »Hab keine Angst, du bekommst wieder einen Sohn!« 18 Aber Rahel spürte, dass sie sterben würde. Darum nannte sie das Kind Ben-Oni (»Schmerzenskind«). Sein Vater aber nannte es Benjamin (»Glückskind«)^[2]. (1Mo 48,13) 19 Rahel starb, und Jakob begrub sie an der Straße nach Efrata, das jetzt Betlehem heißt. 20 Auf ihrem Grab errichtete er einen Gedenkstein. Bis heute steht er dort als das Grabmal Rahels. 21 Dann zog Jakob^[3] weiter und schlug seine Zelte hinter Migdal-Eder auf.

Jakobs Frauen und ihre Söhne

22 Während Jakob sich in jener Gegend aufhielt, schlief Ruben mit Bilha, der Nebenfrau seines Vaters, und sein Vater erfuhr davon^[4]. Jakob hatte zwölf Söhne: 23 Die Söhne Leas waren Ruben, der Erstgeborene, Simeon, Levi, Juda, Issachar und Sebulon. 24 Rahels Söhne waren Josef und Benjamin. 25 Die Söhne von Rahels Magd Bilha waren Dan und Naftali. 26 Die Söhne von Leas Magd Silpa waren Gad und Ascher. Das sind die Söhne Jakobs. Sie wurden in Mesopotamien geboren.

Isaaks Tod

27 Jakob zog weiter und kam zu seinem Vater Isaak nach Mamre. Mamre liegt bei Kirjat Arba, dem heutigen Hebron. Dort hatte vor Isaak auch schon Abraham ´lange Zeit` als Fremder gelebt. 28 Isaak wurde 180 Jahre alt. 29 Er starb nach einem langen und erfüllten Leben und wurde ´im Tod` mit seinen Vorfahren vereint. Seine Söhne Esau und Jakob begruben ihn.

1 And God said unto Jacob, Arise, go up to Bethel, and dwell there: and make there an altar unto God, that appeared unto thee when thou fleddest from the face of Esau thy brother. 2 Then Jacob said unto his household, and to all that were with him, Put away the strange gods that are among you, and be clean, and change your garments: 3 And let us arise, and go up to Bethel; and I will make there an altar unto God, who answered me in the day of my distress, and was with me in the way which I went. 4 And they gave unto Jacob all the strange gods which were in their hand, and all their earrings which were in their ears; and Jacob hid them under the oak which was by Shechem. 5 And they journeyed: and the terror of God was upon the cities that were round about them, and they did not pursue after the sons of Jacob. 6 So Jacob came to Luz, which is in the land of Canaan, that is , Bethel, he and all the people that were with him. 7 And he built there an altar, and called the place Elbethel: because there God appeared unto him, when he fled from the face of his brother. 8 But Deborah Rebekah' nurse died, and she was buried beneath Bethel under an oak: and the name of it was called Allonbachuth. 9 And God appeared unto Jacob again, when he came out of Padanaram, and blessed him. 10 And God said unto him, Thy name is Jacob: thy name shall not be called any more Jacob, but Israel shall be thy name: and he called his name Israel. 11 And God said unto him, I am God Almighty: be fruitful and multiply; a nation and a company of nations shall be of thee, and kings shall come out of thy loins; 12 And the land which I gave Abraham and Isaac, to thee I will give it, and to thy seed after thee will I give the land. 13 And God went up from him in the place where he talked with him. 14 And Jacob set up a pillar in the place where he talked with him, even a pillar of stone: and he poured a drink offering thereon, and he poured oil thereon. 15 And Jacob called the name of the place where God spake with him, Bethel. 16 And they journeyed from Bethel; and there was but a little way to come to Ephrath: and Rachel travailed, and she had hard labour. 17 And it came to pass, when she was in hard labour, that the midwife said unto her, Fear not; thou shalt have this son also. 18 And it came to pass, as her soul was in departing, (for she died) that she called his name Benoni: but his father called him Benjamin. 19 And Rachel died, and was buried in the way to Ephrath, which is Bethlehem. 20 And Jacob set a pillar upon her grave: that is the pillar of Rachel' grave unto this day. 21 And Israel journeyed, and spread his tent beyond the tower of Edar. 22 And it came to pass, when Israel dwelt in that land, that Reuben went and lay with Bilhah his father' concubine: and Israel heard it . Now the sons of Jacob were twelve: 23 The sons of Leah; Reuben, Jacob' firstborn, and Simeon, and Levi, and Judah, and Issachar, and Zebulun: 24 The sons of Rachel; Joseph, and Benjamin: 25 And the sons of Bilhah, Rachel' handmaid; Dan, and Naphtali: 26 And the sons of Zilpah, Leah' handmaid; Gad, and Asher: these are the sons of Jacob, which were born to him in Padanaram. 27 And Jacob came unto Isaac his father unto Mamre, unto the city of Arbah, which is Hebron, where Abraham and Isaac sojourned. 28 And the days of Isaac were an hundred and fourscore years. 29 And Isaac gave up the ghost, and died, and was gathered unto his people, being old and full of days: and his sons Esau and Jacob buried him.
