Adonija will die Königsherrschaft an sich reißen

1 König David war sehr alt geworden. Obwohl man ihn in Decken hüllte, wurde ihm überhaupt nicht mehr warm. 2 Da sagten seine Hofleute zu ihm: »Unser Herr und König, gestatte uns, dass wir für dich eine junge Frau suchen, die noch Jungfrau ist. Sie soll dich bedienen und dich pflegen. Wenn sie in deinen Armen liegt, wird es dir, o König, wieder warm werden.« 3 So suchte man in ganz Israel nach einer schönen jungen Frau. Die Wahl fiel auf Abischag aus Schunem, und sie wurde zum König gebracht. 4 Abischag war außergewöhnlich schön. Sie wurde Davids Pflegerin und kümmerte sich um ihn. Aber David schlief nicht mir ihr. 5 Adonija, der Sohn von David und Haggit, wollte die Herrschaft an sich reißen^[1] und erklärte: »Ich werde der nächste König!« Er beschaffte sich Streitwagen und Pferde sowie eine Leibwache von fünfzig Mann^[2]. 6 Sein Vater hatte ihn sein Leben lang nie zurechtgewiesen oder sein Handeln infrage gestellt. Adonija war ein stattlicher Mann. Nach Abschaloms Tod war er Davids ältester Sohn.^[3] 7 Es war ihm gelungen, Joab, den Sohn von ´Davids Schwester` Zeruja, und den Priester Abjatar auf seine Seite zu ziehen, und sie unterstützten sein Vorhaben. 8 Aber den Priester Zadok und Benaja, den Sohn Jojadas, ´den Befehlshaber der königlichen Leibwache`, konnte er nicht für sich gewinnen. Auch der Prophet Natan sowie Schimi, Reï und die bewährten Kriegsleute Davids waren nicht auf Adonijas Seite. 9 ´Eines Tages veranstaltete Adonija ein großes Opferfest` am Sohelet-Stein in der Nähe der Quelle Rogel; er ließ Schafe und Ziegen, Rinder und gemästete Kälber schlachten. Alle Königssöhne und die Hofleute des Königs aus dem Stamm Juda hatte er dazu eingeladen, 10 aber nicht den Propheten Natan, Benaja und die bewährten Kriegsleute – und auch nicht seinen Bruder Salomo.

Natan und Batseba schalten sich ein

11 Da ´ging` Natan zu Salomos Mutter Batseba und fragte sie: »Hast du schon gehört? Adonija, der Sohn von Haggit, ist König geworden! Und David, unser Herr, weiß nichts davon. 12 Hör jetzt auf meinen Rat, damit du dein Leben und das deines Sohnes Salomo retten kannst. 13 Geh zu König David und sag zu ihm: ›Mein Herr und König, du hast mir doch geschworen, dass mein Sohn Salomo dir auf den Königsthron folgen soll. Warum ist jetzt Adonija König geworden?‹ 14 Noch während du mit dem König sprichst, komme ich dazu und bekräftige das, was du gesagt hast.« 15 Batseba ging ins Schlafgemach des Königs. Er war sehr alt geworden, und Abischag aus Schunem kümmerte sich um ihn. 16 Batseba verneigte sich vor dem König und warf sich vor ihm nieder. Er fragte: »Was ist dein Anliegen?« 17 »Mein Herr«, antwortete sie, »du hast mir doch beim HERRN, deinem Gott, geschworen, dass mein Sohn Salomo dir auf den Thron folgen wird. 18 Aber jetzt ist Adonija König geworden – und du, mein Herr und König, weißt nichts davon! 19 Er hat ´ein großes Opferfest veranstaltet und` Stiere, Mastkälber, Schafe und Ziegen in großer Zahl schlachten lassen. Alle Königssöhne hat er eingeladen, auch den Priester Abjatar und den Heerführer Joab. Aber deinen Sohn Salomo, der treu zu dir steht^[4], wollte er nicht dabeihaben. 20 Ganz Israel blickt jetzt auf dich, mein Herr und König. ´Sie warten darauf`, dass du ihnen bekanntgibst, wer dein Nachfolger auf dem Königsthron sein soll. 21 Sonst werden mein Sohn Salomo und ich als Hochverräter^[5] behandelt, wenn du nicht mehr da bist^[6].« 22 Während Batseba noch mit dem König sprach, kam der Prophet Natan ´zum Palast`. 23 Man meldete dem König: »Der Prophet Natan ist da!« Natan trat ein, warf sich vor dem König nieder und berührte mit der Stirn den Boden. 24 »Mein Herr und König«, sagte er, »anscheinend hast du entschieden, dass Adonija dein Nachfolger auf dem Thron sein soll. 25 Jedenfalls ist er heute zur ´Quelle Rogel` hinabgegangen und hat eine große Zahl an Stieren, Mastkälbern, Schafen und Ziegen schlachten lassen. Alle deine Söhne hat er ´zum Opferfest` eingeladen, auch die Heerführer und den Priester Abjatar. Sie essen und trinken mit ihm und rufen: ›Lang lebe König Adonija!‹ 26 Mich aber, den Priester Zadok, Benaja und deinen Sohn Salomo hat er nicht eingeladen. 27 Hast du, mein Herr und König, dies wirklich so angeordnet? Hast du vor deinen treusten Beratern verheimlicht, wer nach dir auf dem Thron sitzen soll?«

David setzt Salomo als seinen Nachfolger ein

28 Darauf sagte David: »Ruft Batseba wieder zu mir herein!« Sie kam und trat vor den König. 29 Er schwor: »So wahr der HERR lebt, der mich aus allen Gefahren gerettet hat: 30 Dein Sohn Salomo soll als mein Nachfolger auf dem Königsthron sitzen, wie ich es dir beim HERRN, dem Gott Israels, geschworen habe. Heute noch löse ich dieses Versprechen ein.« 31 Batseba verbeugte sich vor dem König, warf sich vor ihm nieder und berührte mit der Stirn den Boden. »Lang lebe mein Herr, der König David!«, sagte sie. 32 Dann befahl David: »Ruft den Priester Zadok, den Propheten Natan und Benaja, den Sohn Jojadas, zu mir!« Als sie vor ihm standen, 33 sagte er zu ihnen: »Nehmt meine Leibwache^[7] mit und begleitet meinen Sohn Salomo hinunter zur Quelle Gihon! Lasst ihn auf meinem eigenen Maultier reiten. 34 Der Priester Zadok und der Prophet Natan sollen Salomo an der Quelle Gihon zum König über Israel salben. Dann blast das Signalhorn und ruft: ›Lang lebe König Salomo!‹ 35 Geleitet ihn anschließend wieder zurück in den Palast. Er soll sich auf meinen Thron setzen, denn er ist mein Nachfolger. Ihn habe ich zum Herrscher über Israel und Juda bestimmt.« 36 »So soll es geschehen!«^[8], antwortete Benaja dem König. »Möge der HERR, der Gott unseres Königs, seinen Segen dazu geben. 37 So wie er meinem Herrn und König beigestanden hat, möge er Salomo beistehen und ihn noch mächtiger machen als meinen Herrn^[9], den König David.« 38 Der Priester Zadok, der Prophet Natan und Benaja, der Sohn Jojadas, ließen Salomo auf das Maultier des Königs steigen und geleiteten ihn mit der königlichen Leibwache^[10] hinunter zur Quelle Gihon. 39 Zadok hatte das Horn mit Salböl aus dem ´heiligen` Zelt mitgenommen und salbte Salomo nun zum ´neuen` König. Dann wurde das Signalhorn geblasen, und das Volk rief: »Lang lebe König Salomo!« 40 Danach zogen sie alle hinter ihm her ´nach Jerusalem` hinauf. Sie spielten auf Flöten und jubelten so laut, dass die Erde bebte.

Adonija muss aufgeben

41 Auch Adonija und seine Gäste hörten den Jubel. Sie hatten gerade ihr Festmahl beendet. Als Joab das Signalhorn hörte, fragte er: »Was ist das für ein Lärm in der Stadt?« 42 Er hatte noch nicht ausgeredet, da traf Jonatan ein, der Sohn des Priesters Abjatar. »Komm zu uns«, sagte Adonija, »du bist ein zuverlässiger Mann und bringst bestimmt gute Nachrichten.« 43 »Im Gegenteil!«, entgegnete Jonatan. »Unser Herr, König David, hat Salomo zum ´neuen` König gemacht! 44 Er hat den Priester Zadok, den Propheten Natan, Benaja, den Sohn Jojadas, sowie die königliche Leibwache zusammen mit Salomo ´zur Quelle Gihon` geschickt und hat ihn auf seinem eigenen Maultier reiten lassen. 45 Bei der Quelle Gihon haben Zadok und Natan ihn zum König gesalbt. Dann sind sie mit lautem Jubel wieder ´nach Jerusalem` hinaufgezogen, und die ganze Stadt ist in heller Aufregung. Das ist der Lärm, den ihr gehört habt. 46 Und nun sitzt Salomo bereits auf dem Königsthron! 47 Die Hofleute sind gekommen und haben König David ihre Glückwünsche gebracht. Sie haben gesagt: ›Möge dein Gott^[11] den Namen Salomos noch berühmter werden lassen als deinen Namen! Möge er Salomo noch mächtiger machen als dich!‹ Der König hat sich auf seinem Bett verneigt ´und den HERRN angebetet`. 48 Dabei sagte er: ›Gepriesen sei der HERR, der Gott Israels! Heute hat er dafür gesorgt, dass mein Nachfolger^[12] den Thron bestiegen hat, und ich darf es noch miterleben!‹« 49 Da fuhr Adonijas Gästen der Schreck in die Glieder. Sie sprangen auf und liefen auseinander. 50 Adonija fürchtete Salomos ´Rache`. Er flüchtete ´ins heilige Zelt` zum Brandopferaltar und hielt sich an dessen Hörnern fest.^[13] (2Mo 27,2) 51 Man meldete Salomo: »Adonija fürchtet sich vor dir, König Salomo. Er hält die Hörner des Altars umklammert und ruft: ›Ich gehe hier nicht weg, bis König Salomo mir schwört^[14], dass er mich nicht hinrichten lässt!‹« 52 Salomo erwiderte: »Solange Adonija sich ´mir gegenüber` als treu erweist, soll ihm kein Haar gekrümmt werden. Doch sobald er sich etwas zuschulden kommen lässt, wird er getötet.« 53 Dann ließ Salomo Adonija vom Altar wegholen. Er kam und warf sich vor dem König nieder. Salomo aber sagte zu ihm: »Du kannst nach Hause gehen.«

1 Now king David was old and stricken in years; and they covered him with clothes, but he gat no heat. 2 Wherefore his servants said unto him, Let there be sought for my lord the king a young virgin: and let her stand before the king, and let her cherish him, and let her lie in thy bosom, that my lord the king may get heat. 3 So they sought for a fair damsel throughout all the coasts of Israel, and found Abishag a Shunammite, and brought her to the king. 4 And the damsel was very fair, and cherished the king, and ministered to him: but the king knew her not. 5 Then Adonijah the son of Haggith exalted himself, saying, I will be king: and he prepared him chariots and horsemen, and fifty men to run before him. 6 And his father had not displeased him at any time in saying, Why hast thou done so? and he also was a very goodly man ; and his mother bare him after Absalom. 7 And he conferred with Joab the son of Zeruiah, and with Abiathar the priest: and they following Adonijah helped him . 8 But Zadok the priest, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and Nathan the prophet, and Shimei, and Rei, and the mighty men which belonged to David, were not with Adonijah. 9 And Adonijah slew sheep and oxen and fat cattle by the stone of Zoheleth, which is by Enrogel, and called all his brethren the king' sons, and all the men of Judah the king' servants: 10 But Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah, and the mighty men, and Solomon his brother, he called not. 11 Wherefore Nathan spake unto Bathsheba the mother of Solomon, saying, Hast thou not heard that Adonijah the son of Haggith doth reign, and David our lord knoweth it not? 12 Now therefore come, let me, I pray thee, give thee counsel, that thou mayest save thine own life, and the life of thy son Solomon. 13 Go and get thee in unto king David, and say unto him, Didst not thou, my lord, O king, swear unto thine handmaid, saying, Assuredly Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne? why then doth Adonijah reign? 14 Behold, while thou yet talkest there with the king, I also will come in after thee, and confirm thy words. 15 And Bathsheba went in unto the king into the chamber: and the king was very old; and Abishag the Shunammite ministered unto the king. 16 And Bathsheba bowed, and did obeisance unto the king. And when he was come in before the king, he bowed himself before the king with his face to the ground. 24 And Nathan said, My lord, O king, hast thou said, Adonijah shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne? 25 For he is gone down this day, and hath slain oxen and fat cattle and sheep in abundance, and hath called all the king' sons, and the captains of the host, and Abiathar the priest; and, behold, they eat and drink before him, and say, God save king Adonijah. 26 But me, even me thy servant, and Zadok the priest, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and thy servant Solomon, hath he not called. 27 Is this thing done by my lord the king, and thou hast not shewed it unto thy servant, who should sit on the throne of my lord the king after him? 28 Then king David answered and said, Call me Bathsheba. And she came into the king' presence, and stood before the king. 29 And the king sware, and said, As the LORD liveth, that hath redeemed my soul out of all distress, 30 Even as I sware unto thee by the LORD God of Israel, saying, Assuredly Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne in my stead; even so will I certainly do this day. 31 Then Bathsheba bowed with her face to the earth, and did reverence to the king, and said, Let my lord king David live for ever. 32 And king David said, Call me Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada. And they came before the king. 33 The king also said unto them, Take with you the servants of your lord, and cause Solomon my son to ride upon mine own mule, and bring him down to Gihon: 34 And let Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet anoint him there king over Israel: and blow ye with the trumpet, and say, God save king Solomon. 35 Then ye shall come up after him, that he may come and sit upon my throne; for he shall be king in my stead: and I have appointed him to be ruler over Israel and over Judah. 36 And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada answered the king, and said, Amen: the LORD God of my lord the king say so too . 37 As the LORD hath been with my lord the king, even so be he with Solomon, and make his throne greater than the throne of my lord king David. 38 So Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites, and the Pelethites, went down, and caused Solomon to ride upon king David' mule, and brought him to Gihon. 39 And Zadok the priest took an horn of oil out of the tabernacle, and anointed Solomon. And they blew the trumpet; and all the people said, God save king Solomon. 40 And all the people came up after him, and the people piped with pipes, and rejoiced with great joy, so that the earth rent with the sound of them. 41 And Adonijah and all the guests that were with him heard it as they had made an end of eating. And when Joab heard the sound of the trumpet, he said, Wherefore is this noise of the city being in an uproar? 42 And while he yet spake, behold, Jonathan the son of Abiathar the priest came: and Adonijah said unto him, Come in; for thou art a valiant man, and bringest good tidings. 43 And Jonathan answered and said to Adonijah, Verily our lord king David hath made Solomon king. 44 And the king hath sent with him Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites, and the Pelethites, and they have caused him to ride upon the king' mule: 45 And Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet have anointed him king in Gihon: and they are come up from thence rejoicing, so that the city rang again. This is the noise that ye have heard. 46 And also Solomon sitteth on the throne of the kingdom. 47 And moreover the king' servants came to bless our lord king David, saying, God make the name of Solomon better than thy name, and make his throne greater than thy throne. And the king bowed himself upon the bed. 48 And also thus said the king, Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, which hath given one to sit on my throne this day, mine eyes even seeing it . 49 And all the guests that were with Adonijah were afraid, and rose up, and went every man his way. 50 And Adonijah feared because of Solomon, and arose, and went, and caught hold on the horns of the altar. 51 And it was told Solomon, saying, Behold, Adonijah feareth king Solomon: for, lo, he hath caught hold on the horns of the altar, saying, Let king Solomon swear unto me to day that he will not slay his servant with the sword. 52 And Solomon said, If he will shew himself a worthy man, there shall not an hair of him fall to the earth: but if wickedness shall be found in him, he shall die. 53 So king Solomon sent, and they brought him down from the altar. And he came and bowed himself to king Solomon: and Solomon said unto him, Go to thine house.
