1Im Bergland von Efraim lebte ein Mann namens Micha.2Der gestand seiner Mutter: »Dir sind doch 1100 Silberstücke gestohlen worden, und du hast den Dieb in meinem Beisein verflucht. Das Geld ist bei mir – ich bin der, der es genommen hat.« Da rief seine Mutter: »Der HERR möge den Fluch in Segen verwandeln!«[1]3Micha gab ihr die 1100 Silberstücke zurück, und sie sagte: »Hiermit weihe ich dieses Silber dem HERRN. Ich lasse damit ein silberbeschlagenes Gottesbild für dich herstellen.[2] So kommt das Geld auch dir zugute.[3]«4Sie nahm von dem Geld zweihundert Silberstücke[4] und brachte sie einem Goldschmied. Der schnitzte ein Gottesbild und überzog es ´mit Silber`. Micha stellte es in seinem Gehöft auf.5Er besaß nämlich ein eigenes Heiligtum. Er ließ auch einen Priesterschurz und einige weitere Götterfiguren anfertigen und setzte einen seiner Söhne als Priester ein.6Damals gab es in Israel keinen König und jeder handelte so, wie es ihm richtig erschien.7Zu jener Zeit lebte ein junger Levit im Gebiet des Stammes Juda. Er hatte in der Stadt Betlehem Aufnahme gefunden.[5]8Doch dann verließ er Betlehem und machte sich auf die Suche nach einem neuen Wohnort. Er zog durch das Bergland von Efraim und kam auch zu Michas Gehöft.9»Woher kommst du?«, fragte Micha. »Ich bin ein Levit aus Betlehem in Juda«, antwortete der junge Mann. »Ich suche einen neuen Ort, an dem ich bleiben kann.«10»Du kannst bei mir wohnen und mein Ratgeber[6] und Priester werden«, bot Micha ihm an. »Ich gebe dir zehn Silberstücke pro Jahr, dazu deine Amtskleidung und was du zum Leben brauchst.« Doch der Levit zog zunächst weiter.[7]11Dann aber ´kehrte er zurück und` willigte ein, bei Micha zu bleiben. Micha nahm ihn auf wie einen Sohn12und setzte ihn feierlich in sein Amt als Priester ein[8]. Der junge Mann wohnte bei Micha auf dem Gehöft, und13Micha dachte: »Jetzt kann ich sicher sein, dass der HERR mir Gutes tun wird. Schließlich habe ich einen Leviten als Priester.«

And his mother said, “I dedicate the silver to the Lord from my hand for my son, to make a carved image and a metal image. Now therefore I will restore it to you.” (2Mo 20,4; 3Mo 19,4)4So when he restored the money to his mother, his mother took 200 pieces of silver and gave it to the silversmith, who made it into a carved image and a metal image. And it was in the house of Micah. (Jes 46,6)5And the man Micah had a shrine, and he made an ephod and household gods, and ordained[1] one of his sons, who became his priest. (5Mo 12,8; Ri 18,1; Ri 19,1; Ri 21,25)7Now there was a young man of Bethlehem in Judah, of the family of Judah, who was a Levite, and he sojourned there. (Ri 19,1; Rut 1,1; Mi 5,2; Mt 2,1; Mt 2,5)8And the man departed from the town of Bethlehem in Judah to sojourn where he could find a place. And as he journeyed, he came to the hill country of Ephraim to the house of Micah. (Jos 24,33)9And Micah said to him, “Where do you come from?” And he said to him, “I am a Levite of Bethlehem in Judah, and I am going to sojourn where I may find a place.”10And Micah said to him, “Stay with me, and be to me a father and a priest, and I will give you ten pieces of silver a year and a suit of clothes and your living.” And the Levite went in. (Ri 18,19)11And the Levite was content to dwell with the man, and the young man became to him like one of his sons. (2Mo 2,21)12And Micah ordained the Levite, and the young man became his priest, and was in the house of Micah. (Ri 17,5; Ri 18,30)13Then Micah said, “Now I know that the Lord will prosper me, because I have a Levite as priest.”
