Consuelo para el pueblo de Dios

1 ¡Consuelen, sí, consuelen a mi pueblo!, dice el Dios de ustedes. 2 Hablen tiernamente a Jerusalén y díganle que han terminado sus días de dolor y amargura. Sus pecados han sido perdonados, y el SEÑOR le dará el doble de bendiciones comparado con el castigo que ha recibido. 3 ¡Escuchen! Oigo a alguien gritar: ―¡Abran para el SEÑOR un camino derecho y parejo a través del desierto! 4 ¡Rellenen los valles y nivelen las colinas, enderecen las sendas torcidas y allanen los sitios ásperos del camino! 5 ¡La humanidad entera contemplará la gloria del SEÑOR! El SEÑOR lo ha dicho y se cumplirá. 6 La voz ahora dice: ―¡Grita! ―¿Qué debo gritar? —pregunté. ―Di a gritos que todo hombre y mujer es como hierba que se marchita, y que toda su belleza se aja como las flores que languidecen. 7 La hierba se seca, la flor se marchita bajo el aliento de Dios. Igual le ocurre al frágil ser humano. 8 La hierba se seca, y se marchita la flor, pero la Palabra de nuestro Dios permanecerá viva para siempre. 9 ¡Oh heraldo de buenas noticias, grítale a Jerusalén desde la cumbre de los montes! ¡Grítale más alto! ¡Sin temor! Diles a las ciudades de Judá: «¡Ya viene Dios!». 10 Sí, el SEÑOR Dios viene con gran potencia, gobernará con tremendo poder. Miren, trae consigo su recompensa, a cada cual le dará según sus hechos. 11 Como pastor apacentará su rebaño, llevará en brazos los corderillos y suavemente guiará las ovejas con cría. 12 ¿Qué otro ha tenido los océanos en sus manos y medido el cielo con su regla? ¿Qué otro conoce el peso de la tierra y pesa las montañas y colinas? 13 ¿Quién puede dar consejos al Espíritu del SEÑOR o servirle de maestro o consejero? 14 ¿Ha necesitado él alguna vez consejo de alguien? ¿Ha requerido él instrucción respecto a lo conveniente y lo mejor? 15 No, porque comparados con él, los pueblos del mundo nada son, son apenas una gota en el mar o polvo en la balanza. Él levanta las islas como si no pesaran nada. 16 Ni todos los bosques del Líbano contienen leña suficiente para consumir un sacrificio que baste para honrarlo, ni son suficientes todos sus animales para ofrecérselos a nuestro Dios. 17 Para él todas las naciones son como nada, menos que nada, son a su vista simple vacío y espuma. 18 ¿Cómo describir a Dios? ¿Con qué podemos compararlo? 19 ¿Con un ídolo? ¿Con una estatuilla hecha de molde, enchapada en oro y con cadenas de plata en torno al pecho? 20 Quien sea demasiado pobre para comprar dioses así de lujosos, hallará un tronco de árbol sin podrir y pagará para que un hombre le talle el rostro, y el leño se convierte en dios suyo. ¡Un dios que ni siquiera puede moverse! 21 ¿Tan ignorantes son? ¿Tan sordos son a las palabras de Dios, a las palabras que él emitió antes que existieran los mundos? ¿Nunca han oído ni entendido? 22 Dios es quien está sentado por sobre el círculo de la tierra. ¡La gente aquí abajo ha de parecerle saltamontes! Dios es quien extiende el cielo como cortina y de él hace su tienda. 23 Dios sentencia a los grandes del mundo y los reduce a nada. 24 Apenas han comenzado, apenas comienzan a echar raíces cuando sopla sobre ellos, marchitando sus obras, y el viento se los lleva como paja. 25 ¿Con quién me compararán? ¿A quién me dan por igual?, pregunta el Santo. 26 ¡Alcen los ojos a los cielos! Quien creó los planetas y las estrellas, las llama a cada una con nombre cariñoso y las cuenta para cerciorarse de que ninguna se ha perdido o extraviado. 27 ¡Oh Jacob, oh Israel! ¿Cómo pueden decir que el SEÑOR no ve sus tribulaciones y no procede con justicia? 28 ¿No comprenden todavía? ¿Aún no saben que el Dios eterno, el Creador de los sitios más lejanos de la tierra, jamás se fatiga ni desmaya? Nadie puede sondear las profundidades de su entendimiento. 29 Él da fuerzas al cansado y extenuado, y vigor al débil. 30 Hasta los jóvenes quedan sin aliento y los muchachos se dan por vencidos. 31 Pero los que esperan en el SEÑOR renovarán sus fuerzas: emprenderán vuelo como si tuvieran alas de águilas, correrán y no se cansarán, caminarán y no desfallecerán.

Comfort for God’s People

1 Comfort, comfort my people, says your God. (Is 51:12; Lc 2:25) 2 Speak tenderly to Jerusalem, and cry to her that her warfare^[1] is ended, that her iniquity is pardoned, that she has received from the Lord’s hand double for all her sins. (2 Cr 36:22; Jer 25:12; Os 2:14) 3 A voice cries:^[2] “In the wilderness prepare the way of the Lord; make straight in the desert a highway for our God. 4 Every valley shall be lifted up, and every mountain and hill be made low; the uneven ground shall become level, and the rough places a plain. (Is 49:11; Lc 3:5) 5 And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together, for the mouth of the Lord has spoken.” (Is 1:20; Lc 3:6)

The Word of God Stands Forever

6 A voice says, “Cry!” And I said,^[3] “What shall I cry?” All flesh is grass, and all its beauty^[4] is like the flower of the field. (Job 14:2; Sal 102:11; Sal 103:15; Stg 1:10; 1 P 1:24)

7 The grass withers, the flower fades when the breath of the Lord blows on it; surely the people are grass. 8 The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever. (Stg 1:11)

The Greatness of God

9 Go on up to a high mountain, O Zion, herald of good news;^[5] lift up your voice with strength, O Jerusalem, herald of good news;^[6] lift it up, fear not; say to the cities of Judah, “Behold your God!” (Is 52:7) 10 Behold, the Lord God comes with might, and his arm rules for him; behold, his reward is with him, and his recompense before him. 12 Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand and marked off the heavens with a span, enclosed the dust of the earth in a measure and weighed the mountains in scales and the hills in a balance? (Pr 30:4) 13 Who has measured^[7] the Spirit of the Lord, or what man shows him his counsel? (Ro 11:34; 1 Co 2:16) 14 Whom did he consult, and who made him understand? Who taught him the path of justice, and taught him knowledge, and showed him the way of understanding? 19 An idol! A craftsman casts it, and a goldsmith overlays it with gold and casts for it silver chains. (Is 40:18) 20 He who is too impoverished for an offering chooses wood^[8] that will not rot; he seeks out a skillful craftsman to set up an idol that will not move. (Is 44:9; Is 46:6; Jer 10:3) 21 Do you not know? Do you not hear? Has it not been told you from the beginning? Have you not understood from the foundations of the earth? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. (Sal 121:4; Sal 147:5) 29 He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. 30 Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; 31 but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.
