1Poco tiempo después, el SEÑOR le dijo a Abram: ―Abram, no tengas miedo, porque yo te protejo, y te voy a dar una recompensa muy grande.2-3Pero Abram contestó: ―Mi SEÑOR y Dios, ¿para qué me servirá todo lo que me vas a dar, si no tengo hijos? En ese caso, como no me has dado un hijo, todo lo que me regales le quedará a Eliezer de Damasco, que es uno de mis criados.4Entonces el SEÑOR le dijo: ―Vas a tener un hijo, y será él quien se quede con todo lo que tienes. ¡De modo que ningún extraño se quedará con tus bienes!5Luego el SEÑOR hizo que Abram saliera de su carpa, y le dijo: ―Intenta contar todas las estrellas que hay en el cielo, y verás que no puedes. ¡Pues, así de numerosos serán tus descendientes!6Y Abram le creyó al SEÑOR, y esto le agradó al SEÑOR y, por eso, lo consideró un hombre justo.7Y le dijo: ―Yo soy el SEÑOR que te saqué de la ciudad de Ur de los caldeos, para regalarte esta tierra.8Pero Abram le respondió: ―Mi SEÑOR y Dios, ¿cómo podré estar seguro de que me la vas a regalar?9Entonces el SEÑOR le dijo: ―Trae una ternera, una cabra y un carnero, de tres años cada uno. También consigue una tórtola y un pichón de paloma.10Abram consiguió estos animales, los partió por la mitad, y puso una mitad frente a la otra. Pero las aves no las partió.11Entonces las aves de rapiña se lanzaban sobre los cuerpos de los animales muertos, pero Abram las espantaba.12Al anochecer, Abram se quedó profundamente dormido, y se sintió rodeado de una oscuridad aterradora.13Entonces el SEÑOR le dijo: ―Abram, ten la seguridad de que tus descendientes van a vivir como esclavos en una tierra extraña, y los tratarán mal durante unos cuatrocientos años.14Pero yo castigaré a la nación que los esclavice, y haré que tus descendientes salgan libres y con mucha riqueza.15En cuanto a ti, debes saber que morirás en paz y a una edad muy avanzada.16Después de cuatro generaciones, tus descendientes regresarán a esta tierra. En ese momento será tanta la maldad de los amorreos que viven aquí, que tendré que castigarlos.17Cuando el sol se ocultó, y anocheció por completo, Abram vio que por entre los animales muertos se paseaba un horno que echaba humo y una antorcha encendida.18Ese día el SEÑOR hizo un pacto con Abram, y le dijo: ―A tus descendientes les voy a dar toda la tierra que va desde el río de Egipto hasta el gran río, es decir, el río Éufrates.19-21Esta tierra es la que habitan actualmente los quenitas, los quenizitas, los cadmoneos, los hititas, los ferezeos, los refaítas, los amorreos, los cananeos, los gergeseos y los jebuseos.
1After these things the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision: “Fear not, Abram, I am your shield; your reward shall be very great.” (Gn 26:24; Sal 3:3; Sal 18:2; Sal 84:11; Sal 119:114; Dn 10:12; Lc 1:13; Lc 1:30)2But Abram said, “O Lord God, what will you give me, for I continue[1] childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?”3And Abram said, “Behold, you have given me no offspring, and a member of my household will be my heir.” (Gn 14:14)4And behold, the word of the Lord came to him: “This man shall not be your heir; your very own son[2] shall be your heir.” (Gn 17:16)5And he brought him outside and said, “Look toward heaven, and number the stars, if you are able to number them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your offspring be.” (Gn 22:17; Gn 26:4; Ex 32:13; Dt 1:10; Dt 10:22; 1 Cr 27:23; Sal 147:4; Ro 4:18; Heb 11:12)6And he believed the Lord, and he counted it to him as righteousness. (Sal 106:31; Ro 4:3; Ro 4:9; Ro 4:22; Gl 3:6; Stg 2:23)7And he said to him, “I am the Lord who brought you out from Ur of the Chaldeans to give you this land to possess.” (Gn 11:31; Gn 12:1; Neh 9:7; Sal 105:42; Sal 105:44; Hch 7:2)8But he said, “O Lord God, how am I to know that I shall possess it?” (Jue 6:17; 2 R 20:8; Sal 86:17; Is 7:11; Lc 1:18)9He said to him, “Bring me a heifer three years old, a female goat three years old, a ram three years old, a turtledove, and a young pigeon.”10And he brought him all these, cut them in half, and laid each half over against the other. But he did not cut the birds in half. (Lv 1:17; Jer 34:18)11And when birds of prey came down on the carcasses, Abram drove them away.12As the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell on Abram. And behold, dreadful and great darkness fell upon him. (Gn 2:21)13Then the Lord said to Abram, “Know for certain that your offspring will be sojourners in a land that is not theirs and will be servants there, and they will be afflicted for four hundred years. (Ex 1:11; Ex 3:7; Ex 12:40; Hch 7:6; Gl 3:17)14But I will bring judgment on the nation that they serve, and afterward they shall come out with great possessions. (Ex 6:6; Ex 12:36; Sal 105:37)15As for you, you shall go to your fathers in peace; you shall be buried in a good old age. (Gn 25:8)16And they shall come back here in the fourth generation, for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet complete.” (1 R 21:26; Dn 8:23; Am 2:9; Mt 23:32; 1 Ts 2:16)17When the sun had gone down and it was dark, behold, a smoking fire pot and a flaming torch passed between these pieces.18On that day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying, “To your offspring I give[3] this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the river Euphrates, (Gn 12:7; Gn 13:15; Gn 24:7; Gn 26:4; Ex 23:31; Nm 34:2; Dt 1:7; Dt 34:4; Jos 1:4; Neh 9:8)19the land of the Kenites, the Kenizzites, the Kadmonites,20the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Rephaim,21the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Girgashites and the Jebusites.”
