1 عَلَى ضِفَافِ أَنْهَارِ بَابِلَ جَلَسْنَا، وَبَكَيْنَا عِنْدَمَا تَذَكَّرْنَا أُورُشَلِيمَ. 2 هُنَاكَ عَلَّقْنَا أَعْوَادَنَا عَلَى أَشْجَارِ الصَّفْصَافِ. 3 هُنَاكَ طَلَبَ مِنَّا الَّذِينَ سَبَوْنَا أَنْ نَشْدُوَ بِتَرْنِيمَةٍ، وَالَّذِينَ عَذَّبُونَا أَنْ نُطْرِبَهُمْ قَائِلِينَ: «أَنْشِدُوا لَنَا مِنْ تَرَانِيمِ صِهْيَوْنَ». 4 كَيْفَ نَشْدُو بِتَرْنِيمَةِ الرَّبِّ فِي أَرْضٍ غَرِيبَةٍ؟ 5 إِنْ نَسِيتُكِ يَا أُورُشَلِيمُ، فَلْتَنْسَ يَمِينِي مَهَارَتَهَا. 6 لِيَلْتَصِقْ لِسَانِي بِحَنَكِي إِنْ لَمْ أَذْكُرْكِ وَلَمْ أُفَضِّلْكِ عَلَى ذِرْوَةِ أَفْرَاحِي. 7 اذْكُرْ يَا رَبُّ لِبَنِي أَدُومَ مَا فَعَلُوهُ يَوْمَ خَرَابِ أُورُشَلِيمَ، إِذْ قَالُوا: «اهْدِمُوا اهْدِمُوا حَتَّى يَتَعَرَّى أَسَاسُهَا». 8 يَا بِنْتَ بَابِلَ الْمُحَتَّمِ خَرَابُهَا، طُوبَى لِمَنْ يُجَازِيكِ بِمَا جَزَيْتِنَا بِهِ. 9 طُوبَى لِمَنْ يُمْسِكُ صِغَارَكِ وَيَضْرِبُ بِهِمِ الصَّخْرَةَ.

1 By the waters of Babylon, there we sat down and wept, when we remembered Zion. 2 On the willows[1] there we hung up our lyres. 3 For there our captors required of us songs, and our tormentors, mirth, saying, “Sing us one of the songs of Zion!” 4 How shall we sing the LORD’s song in a foreign land? (نح 2:3) 5 If I forget you, O Jerusalem, let my right hand forget its skill! (مز 76:5) 6 Let my tongue stick to the roof of my mouth, if I do not remember you, if I do not set Jerusalem above my highest joy! (أي 29:10; حز 3:26) 7 Remember, O LORD, against the Edomites the day of Jerusalem, how they said, “Lay it bare, lay it bare, down to its foundations!” (أي 18:20; إش 34:5; إش 34:6; مرا 4:21; مرا 4:22; حز 35:2; عا 1:11; عا 1:12; حب 3:13; صف 2:14) 8 O daughter of Babylon, doomed to be destroyed, blessed shall he be who repays you with what you have done to us! (مز 28:4; إش 13:1; إش 21:9; إش 47:1; إر 25:12; إر 50:1; إر 51:1; إر 51:24; إر 51:56) 9 Blessed shall he be who takes your little ones and dashes them against the rock! (2مل 8:12; إش 13:16; هو 10:14; نا 3:10)
