Das Buch mit den sieben Siegeln

1 Und ich sah in der rechten Hand dessen, der auf dem Thron saß, ein Buch, beschrieben innen und außen, versiegelt mit sieben Siegeln. (Hes 2,9; Offb 4,2) 2 Und ich sah einen starken Engel, der rief mit großer Stimme: Wer ist würdig, das Buch aufzutun und seine Siegel zu brechen? 3 Und niemand, weder im Himmel noch auf Erden noch unter der Erde, konnte das Buch auftun noch es sehen. 4 Und ich weinte sehr, weil niemand für würdig befunden wurde, das Buch aufzutun und hineinzusehen. 5 Und einer von den Ältesten spricht zu mir: Weine nicht! Siehe, es hat überwunden der Löwe aus dem Stamm Juda, die Wurzel Davids, aufzutun das Buch und seine sieben Siegel. (1Mo 49,9; Jes 11,1; Röm 15,12; Offb 22,16)

6 Und ich sah mitten zwischen dem Thron und den vier Wesen und mitten unter den Ältesten ein Lamm^[1] stehen, wie geschlachtet; es hatte sieben Hörner und sieben Augen, das sind die sieben Geister Gottes, gesandt in alle Lande. (Jes 53,7; Joh 1,29) 7 Und es kam und nahm das Buch aus der rechten Hand dessen, der auf dem Thron saß. (Offb 4,2) 8 Und als es das Buch nahm, da fielen die vier Wesen und die vierundzwanzig Ältesten nieder vor dem Lamm, und ein jeder hatte eine Harfe und goldene Schalen voll Räucherwerk, das sind die Gebete der Heiligen, (Ps 141,2; Offb 8,3) 9 und sie sangen ein neues Lied: Du bist würdig, zu nehmen das Buch und aufzutun seine Siegel; denn du bist geschlachtet und hast mit deinem Blut Menschen für Gott erkauft aus allen Stämmen und Sprachen und Völkern und Nationen (Ps 33,3; Jes 53,7; 1Petr 1,19) 10 und hast sie unserm Gott zu einem Königreich und zu Priestern gemacht, und sie werden herrschen^[2] auf Erden. (Offb 1,6; Offb 20,6) 11 Und ich sah, und ich hörte eine Stimme vieler Engel um den Thron und um die Wesen und um die Ältesten her, und ihre Zahl war zehntausendmal zehntausend und vieltausendmal tausend; (Dan 7,10; Hebr 12,22) 12 die sprachen mit großer Stimme: Das Lamm, das geschlachtet ist, ist würdig, zu nehmen Kraft und Reichtum und Weisheit und Stärke und Ehre und Preis und Lob. (Phil 2,9) 13 Und jedes Geschöpf, das im Himmel ist und auf Erden und unter der Erde und auf dem Meer und alles, was darin ist, hörte ich sagen: Dem, der auf dem Thron sitzt, und dem Lamm sei Lob und Ehre und Preis und Gewalt von Ewigkeit zu Ewigkeit! 14 Und die vier Wesen sprachen: Amen! Und die Ältesten fielen nieder und beteten an.

The scroll and the Lamb

1 Then I saw a scroll in the right hand of the one sitting on the throne. The scroll had writing on both sides. It was sealed with seven seals. 2 I saw a mighty angel calling out in a loud voice. He said, ‘Who is worthy to break the seals and open the scroll?’ 3 But no one in heaven or on earth or under the earth could open the scroll. No one could even look inside it. 4 I cried and cried. That’s because no one was found who was worthy to open the scroll or look inside. 5 Then one of the elders said to me, ‘Do not cry! The Lion of the tribe of Judah has won the battle. He is the Root of David. He is able to break the seven seals and open the scroll.’ 6 Then I saw a Lamb that looked as if he had been put to death. He stood at the centre of the area around the throne. The Lamb was surrounded by the four living creatures and the elders. He had seven horns and seven eyes. The eyes stand for the seven spirits of God, which are sent out into all the earth. 7 The Lamb went and took the scroll. He took it from the right hand of the one sitting on the throne. 8 Then the four living creatures and the 24 elders fell down in front of the Lamb. Each one had a harp. They were holding golden bowls full of incense. They stand for the prayers of God’s people. 9 Here is the new song they sang. ‘You are worthy to take the scroll and break open its seals. You are worthy because you were put to death. With your blood you bought people for God. They come from every tribe, people and nation, no matter what language they speak. 10 You have made them members of a royal family. You have made them priests to serve our God. They will rule on the earth.’ 11 Then I looked and heard the voice of millions and millions of angels. They surrounded the throne. They surrounded the living creatures and the elders. 12 In a loud voice they were saying, ‘The Lamb, who was put to death, is worthy! He is worthy to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength! He is worthy to receive honour and glory and praise!’ 13 All creatures in heaven, on earth, under the earth, and on the sea were speaking. The whole creation was speaking. I heard all of them say, ‘Praise and honour belong to the one who sits on the throne and to the Lamb! Glory and power belong to God for ever and ever!’ 14 The four living creatures said, ‘Amen’. And the elders fell down and worshipped.
