Die königliche Hochzeit

1 Und Jesus fing an und redete abermals in Gleichnissen zu ihnen und sprach: (Lk 14,16) 2 Das Himmelreich gleicht einem König, der seinem Sohn die Hochzeit ausrichtete. (Joh 3,29; Offb 19,7) 3 Und er sandte seine Knechte aus, die Gäste zur Hochzeit zu rufen; doch sie wollten nicht kommen. 4 Abermals sandte er andere Knechte aus und sprach: Sagt den Gästen: Siehe, meine Mahlzeit habe ich bereitet, meine Ochsen und mein Mastvieh ist geschlachtet und alles ist bereit; kommt zur Hochzeit! 5 Aber sie verachteten das und gingen weg, einer auf seinen Acker, der andere an sein Geschäft. 6 Die Übrigen aber ergriffen seine Knechte, verhöhnten und töteten sie. (Mt 21,35) 7 Da wurde der König zornig und schickte seine Heere aus und brachte diese Mörder um und zündete ihre Stadt an. (Mt 24,2) 8 Dann sprach er zu seinen Knechten: Die Hochzeit ist zwar bereit, aber die Gäste waren’s nicht wert. 9 Darum geht hinaus auf die Straßen und ladet zur Hochzeit ein, wen ihr findet. 10 Und die Knechte gingen auf die Straßen hinaus und brachten zusammen alle, die sie fanden, Böse und Gute; und der Hochzeitssaal war voll mit Gästen. (Mt 13,47) 11 Da ging der König hinein zum Mahl, sich die Gäste anzusehen, und sah da einen Menschen, der hatte kein hochzeitliches Gewand an, (Offb 19,8) 12 und sprach zu ihm: Freund, wie bist du hier hereingekommen und hast doch kein hochzeitliches Gewand an? Er aber verstummte. 13 Da sprach der König zu seinen Dienern: Bindet ihm Hände und Füße und werft ihn in die äußerste Finsternis! Da wird sein Heulen und Zähneklappern. 14 Denn viele sind berufen, aber wenige sind auserwählt.

Die Frage nach der Steuer (Der Zinsgroschen)

15 Da gingen die Pharisäer hin und hielten Rat, dass sie ihn fingen in seinen Worten, (Mk 12,13; Lk 20,20) 16 und sandten zu ihm ihre Jünger samt den Anhängern des Herodes. Die sprachen: Meister, wir wissen, dass du wahrhaftig bist und lehrst den Weg Gottes recht und fragst nach niemand; denn du achtest nicht das Ansehen der Menschen. (Joh 3,2) 17 Darum sage uns, was meinst du: Ist’s recht, dass man dem Kaiser Steuern zahlt, oder nicht? 18 Da nun Jesus ihre Bosheit merkte, sprach er: Ihr Heuchler, was versucht ihr mich? 19 Zeigt mir die Steuermünze! Und sie reichten ihm einen Silbergroschen. 20 Und er sprach zu ihnen: Wessen Bild und Aufschrift ist das? 21 Sie sprachen zu ihm: Des Kaisers. Da sprach er zu ihnen: So gebt dem Kaiser, was des Kaisers ist, und Gott, was Gottes ist! (Röm 13,7) 22 Als sie das hörten, wunderten sie sich, ließen von ihm ab und gingen davon.

Die Frage nach der Auferstehung

23 An demselben Tage traten Sadduzäer zu ihm, die sagen, es gebe keine Auferstehung, und fragten ihn (Mk 12,18; Lk 20,27; Apg 4,2; Apg 23,6; Apg 23,8)

24 und sprachen: Meister, Mose hat gesagt: »Wenn einer stirbt und hat keine Kinder, so soll sein Bruder die Frau heiraten und seinem Bruder Nachkommen erwecken.« (1Mo 38,8; 5Mo 25,5) 25 Nun waren bei uns sieben Brüder. Der erste heiratete und starb; und weil er keine Nachkommen hatte, hinterließ er seine Frau seinem Bruder; 26 desgleichen der zweite und der dritte bis zum siebenten. 27 Zuletzt nach allen starb die Frau. 28 Nun in der Auferstehung: Wessen Frau wird sie sein von diesen sieben? Sie haben sie ja alle gehabt. 29 Jesus aber antwortete und sprach zu ihnen: Ihr irrt, weil ihr weder die Schrift kennt noch die Kraft Gottes. 30 Denn in der Auferstehung werden sie weder heiraten noch sich heiraten lassen, sondern sie sind wie Engel im Himmel. 31 Habt ihr denn nicht gelesen von der Auferstehung der Toten, was euch gesagt ist von Gott, der da spricht: (2Mo 3,6) 32 »Ich bin der Gott Abrahams und der Gott Isaaks und der Gott Jakobs«? Gott ist nicht ein Gott der Toten, sondern der Lebenden. 33 Und als das Volk das hörte, entsetzten sie sich über seine Lehre.

Die Frage nach dem höchsten Gebot

34 Als aber die Pharisäer hörten, dass er den Sadduzäern das Maul gestopft hatte, versammelten sie sich. (Mk 12,28; Lk 10,25) 35 Und einer von ihnen, ein Lehrer des Gesetzes, versuchte ihn und fragte: 36 Meister, welches ist das höchste Gebot im Gesetz? 37 Jesus aber sprach zu ihm: »Du sollst den Herrn, deinen Gott, lieben von ganzem Herzen, von ganzer Seele und von ganzem Gemüt« (5Mo 6,5) 38 Dies ist das höchste und erste Gebot. 39 Das andere aber ist dem gleich: »Du sollst deinen Nächsten lieben wie dich selbst« (3Mo 19,18) 40 In diesen beiden Geboten hängt das ganze Gesetz und die Propheten. (Mt 7,12; Röm 13,9)

Der Sohn Davids

41 Als nun die Pharisäer beieinander waren, fragte sie Jesus (Mk 12,34; Lk 20,40) 42 und sprach: Was denkt ihr von dem Christus? Wessen Sohn ist er? Sie sprachen zu ihm: Davids. (Jes 11,1; Joh 7,42) 43 Er sprach zu ihnen: Wie nennt ihn dann David im Geist »Herr«, wenn er sagt: 44 »Der Herr sprach zu meinem Herrn: Setze dich zu meiner Rechten, bis ich deine Feinde unter deine Füße lege«? (Mt 26,64) 45 Wenn nun David ihn Herr nennt, wie ist er dann sein Sohn? 46 Und niemand konnte ihm ein Wort antworten, auch wagte niemand von dem Tage an, ihn hinfort zu fragen.

The story of the wedding dinner

1 Jesus told them more stories. He said, 2 ‘Here is what the kingdom of heaven is like. A king prepared a wedding dinner for his son. 3 He sent his slaves to those who had been invited to the dinner. The slaves told them to come. But they refused. 4 ‘Then he sent some more slaves. He said, “Tell those who were invited that I have prepared my dinner. I have killed my oxen and my fattest cattle. Everything is ready. Come to the wedding dinner.” 5 ‘But the people paid no attention. One went away to his field. Another went away to his business. 6 The rest grabbed his slaves. They treated them badly and then killed them. 7 The king became very angry. He sent his army to destroy them. They killed those murderers and burned their city. 8 ‘Then the king said to his slaves, “The wedding dinner is ready. But those I invited were not fit to come. 9 So go to the street corners. Invite to the dinner anyone you can find.” 10 So the slaves went out into the streets. They gathered all the people they could find, the bad as well as the good. Soon the wedding hall was filled with guests. 11 ‘The king came in to see the guests. He noticed a man there who was not wearing wedding clothes. 12 “Friend”, he asked, “how did you get in here without wedding clothes?” The man couldn’t think of anything to say. 13 ‘Then the king told his slaves, “Tie up his hands and feet. Throw him outside into the darkness. Out there people will weep and grind their teeth.” 14 ‘Many are invited, but few are chosen.’

Is it right to pay the royal tax to Caesar?

15 The Pharisees went out. They made plans to trap Jesus with his own words. 16 They sent their followers to him. They sent the Herodians with them. ‘Teacher’, they said, ‘we know that you are a man of honour. You teach the way of God truthfully. You don’t let others tell you what to do or say. You don’t care how important they are. 17 Tell us then, what do you think? Is it right to pay the royal tax to Caesar or not?’ 18 But Jesus knew their evil plans. He said, ‘You pretenders! Why are you trying to trap me? 19 Show me the coin people use for paying the tax.’ They brought him a silver coin. 20 He asked them, ‘Whose picture is this? And whose words?’ 21 ‘Caesar’s,’ they replied. Then he said to them, ‘So give back to Caesar what belongs to Caesar. And give back to God what belongs to God.’ 22 When they heard this, they were amazed. So they left him and went away.

Marriage when the dead rise

23 That same day the Sadducees came to Jesus with a question. They do not believe that people rise from the dead. 24 ‘Teacher’, they said, ‘here is what Moses told us. If a man dies without having children, his brother must get married to the widow. He must provide children to carry on his brother’s name. 25 There were seven brothers among us. The first one got married and died. Since he had no children, he left his wife to his brother. 26 The same thing happened to the second and third brothers. It happened right on down to the seventh brother. 27 Finally, the woman died. 28 Now then, when the dead rise, whose wife will she be? All seven of them were married to her.’ 29 Jesus replied, ‘You are mistaken, because you do not know the Scriptures. And you do not know the power of God. 30 When the dead rise, they won’t get married. And their parents won’t give them to be married. They will be like the angels in heaven. 31 What about the dead rising? Haven’t you read what God said to you? 32 He said, “I am the God of Abraham. I am the God of Isaac. And I am the God of Jacob.” He is not the God of the dead. He is the God of the living.’ (2Mo 3,6) 33 When the crowds heard this, they were amazed by what he taught.

The most important commandment

34 The Pharisees heard that the Sadducees weren’t able to answer Jesus. So the Pharisees got together. 35 One of them was an authority on the law. So he tested Jesus with a question. 36 ‘Teacher’, he asked, ‘which is the most important commandment in the Law?’ 37 Jesus replied, ‘ “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul. Love him with all your mind.” (5Mo 6,5) 38 This is the first and most important commandment. 39 And the second is like it. “Love your neighbour as you love yourself.” (3Mo 19,18) 40 Everything that is written in the Law and the Prophets is based on these two commandments.’

Whose son is the Messiah?

41 The Pharisees were gathered together. Jesus asked them, 42 ‘What do you think about the Messiah? Whose son is he?’ ‘The son of David,’ they replied. 43 He said to them, ‘Then why does David call him “Lord”? The Holy Spirit spoke through David himself. David said, 44 ‘ “The Lord said to my Lord, ‘Sit at my right hand until I put your enemies under your control.’ ” (Ps 110,1) 45 So if David calls him “Lord”, how can he be David’s son?’ 46 No one could give any answer to him. From that day on, no one dared to ask him any more questions.
