Jeremias letzte Predigt

1 Dies ist das Wort, das zu Jeremia geschah an alle Judäer, die in Ägyptenland wohnten, nämlich in Migdol, Tachpanhes und Memphis, und die im Lande Patros wohnten. (Jer 43,7) 2 So spricht der HERR Zebaoth, der Gott Israels: Ihr habt gesehen all das Unheil, das ich habe kommen lassen über Jerusalem und über alle Städte in Juda; siehe, heutigentags sind sie wüst, und niemand wohnt darin; 3 und das um ihrer Bosheit willen, die sie taten, dass sie mich erzürnten und hingingen und opferten und dienten andern Göttern, die weder sie noch ihr noch eure Väter kannten. (Jer 19,4) 4 Und ich sandte immer wieder zu euch alle meine Knechte, die Propheten, und ließ euch sagen: »Tut doch nicht solche Gräuel, die ich hasse.« (Jer 25,4) 5 Aber sie wollten nicht gehorchen, auch ihr Ohr nicht neigen, dass sie sich von ihrer Bosheit bekehrt und andern Göttern nicht geopfert hätten. (Jer 7,26) 6 Darum ergoss sich auch mein Zorn und Grimm und entbrannte über die Städte Judas und die Gassen Jerusalems, dass sie zur Wüste und Öde geworden sind, so wie es heute ist. 7 Nun, so spricht der HERR, der Gott Zebaoth, der Gott Israels: Warum tut ihr euch selbst ein so großes Unheil an, dass bei euch ausgerottet werden aus Juda Mann und Frau, Kind und Säugling und nichts von euch übrig bleibt, (Jer 42,22) 8 und erzürnt mich so durch eurer Hände Werke und opfert andern Göttern in Ägyptenland, wohin ihr gezogen seid, um dort zu wohnen, auf dass ihr ausgerottet und zum Fluch und zur Schmach werdet unter allen Völkern auf Erden? 9 Habt ihr vergessen all das Böse, das eure Väter und die Könige von Juda und ihre Frauen, dazu ihr selbst und eure Frauen getan haben im Lande Juda und auf den Gassen Jerusalems? (Jer 7,17) 10 Sie haben sich bis auf diesen Tag nicht gedemütigt, fürchten sich auch nicht und wandeln nicht in meinem Gesetz und den Ordnungen, die ich euch und euren Vätern gegeben habe. 11 Darum, so spricht der HERR Zebaoth, der Gott Israels: Siehe, ich will mein Angesicht wider euch richten zum Unheil, und ganz Juda soll ausgerottet werden. (Am 9,4) 12 Und ich will wegraffen, die übrig geblieben sind von Juda, die ihr Angesicht nach Ägyptenland gerichtet haben, um dorthin zu ziehen und dort zu wohnen; es soll ein Ende mit ihnen allen werden in Ägyptenland. Durchs Schwert sollen sie fallen und durch Hunger sollen sie umkommen, Klein und Groß; sie sollen durch Schwert und Hunger sterben und sollen zur Verwünschung, zum Entsetzen, zum Fluch und zur Schmach werden. (Jer 42,14) 13 Ich will auch jene, die in Ägyptenland wohnen, heimsuchen mit Schwert, Hunger und Pest, gleichwie ich an Jerusalem getan habe, 14 sodass von denen, die übrig geblieben sind von Juda und die hierher gekommen sind nach Ägyptenland, um hier zu wohnen, keiner entrinnen und entkommen soll. Sie sollen nicht mehr ins Land Juda zurückkehren, wohin sie gerne wiederkämen und wohnten, sondern es soll keiner dahin zurückkommen außer einigen Entronnenen. 15 Da antworteten dem Jeremia alle Männer, die sehr wohl wussten, dass ihre Frauen andern Göttern opferten, und alle Frauen, die dabeistanden, eine große Menge, samt allem Volk, das in Ägyptenland und in Patros wohnte, und sprachen: (Jes 11,11) 16 Das Wort, das du uns im Namen des HERRN sagst – wir wollen dir nicht gehorchen. 17 Das Wort, das aus unserm eigenen Munde gekommen ist, das wollen wir halten und der Himmelskönigin opfern und ihr Trankopfer darbringen, wie wir und unsere Väter, unsere Könige und Oberen getan haben in den Städten Judas und auf den Gassen Jerusalems. Da hatten wir auch Brot genug und es ging uns gut, und wir sahen kein Unglück. (Jer 7,17; Hos 2,7) 18 Seit der Zeit aber, da wir es unterlassen haben, der Himmelskönigin zu opfern und Trankopfer darzubringen, haben wir an allem Mangel gelitten und sind durch Schwert und Hunger umgekommen. 19 Und wenn wir Frauen der Himmelskönigin opfern und Trankopfer darbringen, das tun wir ja nicht ohne den Willen unserer Männer, wenn wir ihr Opferkuchen backen, die sie abbilden, und ihr Trankopfer darbringen. (4Mo 30,11) 20 Da sprach Jeremia zu dem ganzen Volk, den Männern und Frauen und allen Leuten, die ihm so geantwortet hatten: 21 Waren es nicht jene Opfer, an die der HERR gedacht hat, die ihr in den Städten Judas und auf den Gassen Jerusalems dargebracht habt, ihr und eure Väter, Könige, Oberen und alles Volk des Landes? Waren nicht sie es, die ihm in den Sinn gekommen sind? 22 So konnte der HERR es nicht mehr ertragen wegen eures bösen Wandels und der Gräuel, die ihr tatet; daher ist auch euer Land zur Wüste, zum Entsetzen und zum Fluch geworden, dass niemand darin wohnt, so wie es heute ist. 23 Weil ihr der Himmelskönigin geopfert habt und wider den HERRN sündigtet und der Stimme des HERRN nicht gehorchtet und in seinem Gesetze, seinen Rechten und Mahnungen nicht gewandelt seid, darum ist euch solches Unheil widerfahren, so wie es heute ist. 24 Und Jeremia sprach zu allem Volk und zu allen Frauen: Höret des HERRN Wort, ihr alle aus Juda, die in Ägyptenland sind! 25 So spricht der HERR Zebaoth, der Gott Israels: Ihr und eure Frauen, was ihr mit eurem Munde gelobt habt, vollbringt ihr mit euren Händen. Ihr sagt: »Wir wollen unsere Gelübde halten, die wir der Himmelskönigin gelobt haben, dass wir ihr opfern und Trankopfer darbringen.« Wohlan, erfüllt doch eure Gelübde und haltet eure Gelübde! 26 So höret nun des HERRN Wort, ihr alle aus Juda, die ihr in Ägyptenland wohnt: Siehe, ich schwöre bei meinem großen Namen, spricht der HERR, dass mein Name nicht mehr genannt werden soll durch irgendeines Menschen Mund aus Juda in ganz Ägyptenland, der da sagt: »So wahr Gott der HERR lebt!« 27 Siehe, ich will über sie wachen zum Unheil und nicht zum Heil, dass, wer aus Juda in Ägyptenland ist, durch Schwert und Hunger umkommen soll, bis es ein Ende mit ihnen hat. (Jer 21,10) 28 Die aber dem Schwert entrinnen, werden aus Ägyptenland ins Land Juda zurückkommen als ein geringes Häuflein. So werden dann alle, die übrig geblieben sind von Juda und die nach Ägyptenland gezogen waren, dort zu wohnen, erkennen, wessen Wort wahr geworden ist, meines oder ihres. 29 Und dies sei das Zeichen, spricht der HERR: Ich will euch an diesem Ort heimsuchen, damit ihr wisst, dass mein Wort wahr werden soll über euch zum Unheil. 30 So spricht der HERR: Siehe, ich will den Pharao Hofra, den König von Ägypten, übergeben in die Hände seiner Feinde und derer, die ihm nach dem Leben trachten, gleichwie ich Zedekia, den König von Juda, übergeben habe in die Hand Nebukadnezars, des Königs von Babel, seines Feindes, der ihm nach dem Leben trachtete. (Hes 29,19)

Worshipping other gods brings horrible trouble

1 A message from the LORD came to Jeremiah. It was about all the Jews living in Lower Egypt. They were living in Migdol, Tahpanhes and Memphis. It was also about all the Jews living in Upper Egypt. 2 The LORD who rules over all is the God of Israel. He said, ‘You saw all the trouble I brought on Jerusalem. I also brought it on all the towns in Judah. Today they lie there deserted and destroyed. 3 That’s because of the evil things their people did. They made me very angry. They burned incense to other gods. And they worshipped them. They and you and your people of long ago never knew those gods. 4 Again and again I sent my servants the prophets. They said, “Don’t worship other gods! The LORD hates it!” 5 But the people didn’t listen. They didn’t pay any attention. They didn’t turn from their sinful ways. They didn’t stop burning incense to other gods. 6 So my burning anger was poured out. It blazed out against the towns of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem. It made them the dry and empty places they are today.’ 7 The LORD God who rules over all is the God of Israel. He says, ‘Why do you want to bring all this trouble on yourselves? You are removing from Judah its men and women, its children and babies. Not one of you will be left. 8 Why do you want to make me angry with the gods your hands have made? Why do you burn incense to the gods of Egypt, where you now live? You will destroy yourselves. All the nations on earth will use your name as a curse. They will say you are shameful. 9 Have you forgotten the evil things done by your people of long ago? The kings and queens of Judah did those same things. So did you and your wives. They were done in the land of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem. 10 To this day the people of Judah have not made themselves humble in my sight. They have not shown any respect for me. They have not obeyed my law. They have not followed the rules I gave you and your people of long ago.’ 11 The LORD who rules over all is the God of Israel. He says, ‘I have decided to bring horrible trouble on you. I will destroy the whole land of Judah. 12 I will destroy the people of Judah who are left. They had decided to go to Egypt and make their homes there. But all of them will die in Egypt. They will die of war or hunger. All of them will die, from the least important of them to the most important. They will die of war or hunger. People will use their name as a curse. They will be shocked at them. They will say bad things about them. And they will say they are shameful. 13 I will use war, hunger and plague to punish the Jews who live in Egypt. I punished Jerusalem in the same way. 14 None of the people of Judah who have gone to live in Egypt will escape. Not one of them will live to return to Judah. They long to return and live there. But only a few will escape from Egypt and go back.’ 15 All the Jews who were living in Lower and Upper Egypt gathered to give Jeremiah their answer. A large crowd had come together. It included men who knew that their wives were burning incense to other gods. Their wives were there with them. All of them said to Jeremiah, 16 ‘We won’t listen to the message you have spoken to us in the LORD’s name! 17 We will certainly do everything we said we would. We’ll burn incense to the female god called the Queen of Heaven. We’ll pour out drink offerings to her. We’ll do just as we and our people of long ago have done. Our kings and our officials also did it. All of us did it in the towns of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem. At that time we had plenty of food. We were well off. We didn’t suffer any harm. 18 But then we stopped burning incense to the Queen of Heaven. We stopped pouring out drink offerings to her. And ever since that time we haven’t had anything. Instead, we’ve been dying of war and hunger.’ 19 The women added, ‘We burned incense to the Queen of Heaven. We poured out drink offerings to her. And our husbands knew we were making cakes that looked like her. They knew we were pouring out drink offerings to her.’ 20 Then Jeremiah spoke to all the people who were answering him. He spoke to men and women alike. He said, 21 ‘Didn’t the LORD know you were burning incense in the towns of Judah? Didn’t he care that you were also doing it in the streets of Jerusalem? You and your people of long ago were doing it. Your kings and officials were doing it too. So were the rest of the people in the land. 22 The LORD couldn’t put up any longer with the evil things you were doing. He hated the things you did. So your land became a curse. It became a dry and empty desert. No one lived there. And that’s the way it still is today. 23 You have burned incense to other gods. You have sinned against the LORD. You haven’t obeyed him or his law. You haven’t followed his rules. You haven’t lived up to the terms of the covenant he made with you. That’s why all this trouble has come on you. You have seen it with your own eyes.’ 24 Then Jeremiah spoke to all the people. That included the women. He said, ‘All you people of Judah in Egypt, listen to the LORD’s message. 25 The LORD who rules over all is the God of Israel. He says, “You and your wives have done what you promised you would do. You said, ‘We will certainly keep the promises we made to the Queen of Heaven. We’ll burn incense to her. We’ll pour out drink offerings to her.’ ” ‘Go ahead then. Do what you said you would! Keep your promises! 26 But listen to the LORD’s message. Listen, all you Jews living in Egypt. “I make a promise by my own great name,” says the LORD. “Here is what I promise. ‘No one from Judah who lives anywhere in Egypt will ever again pray in my name. None of them will ever make this promise. They will never say, “You can be sure that the LORD and King is alive.” ’ 27 I am watching over them to do them harm and not good. The Jews in Egypt will die of war and hunger until all of them are destroyed. 28 Some will not be killed. They will return to Judah from Egypt. But they will be very few. Then all the people of Judah who came to live in Egypt will know the truth. They will know whether what I say or what they say will come true. 29 ‘ “I will give you a sign that I will punish you in this place,” announces the LORD. “Then you can be sure that my warnings of harm against you will come true.” 30 The LORD says, “I am going to hand over Pharaoh Hophra king of Egypt. I will hand him over to his enemies who want to kill him. In the same way, I handed over King Zedekiah to Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon. He was the enemy who wanted to kill Zedekiah.” ’
