Ist Umkehr möglich?

1 Und er sprach: Wenn sich ein Mann von seiner Frau scheidet und sie geht von ihm und gehört einem andern, darf er sie auch wieder annehmen? Ist’s nicht so, dass das Land unrein würde? Du aber hast mit vielen gehurt und solltest wieder zu mir kommen?, spricht der HERR. (5Mo 24,1) 2 Hebe deine Augen auf zu den Höhen und sieh, wo du allenthalben dich hingegeben hast! An den Wegen hast du auf sie gewartet wie ein Araber in der Wüste und das Land unrein gemacht mit deiner Hurerei und Bosheit. (Hos 4,13) 3 Darum blieb der Frühregen aus und kein Spätregen kam. Aber du hattest eine Hurenstirn, wolltest dich nicht mehr schämen 4 und schriest dann doch zu mir: Lieber Vater, du Vertrauter meiner Jugend! (Jes 63,16; Jer 19,1; Jer 31,9) 5 »Will er denn ewiglich zürnen und nicht vom Grimm lassen«, siehe, so hast du geredet und Böses getan und ließest dir nicht wehren. (Ps 85,6) 6 Und der HERR sprach zu mir zur Zeit des Königs Josia: Hast du gesehen, was Israel, die Abtrünnige, tat? Sie ging hin auf alle hohen Berge und unter alle grünen Bäume und trieb dort Hurerei. (Jer 2,20) 7 Und ich dachte, nachdem sie das alles getan, würde sie zu mir zurückkehren. Aber sie kehrte nicht zurück. Und obwohl ihre Schwester Juda, die Treulose, gesehen hat, (2Kön 17,18; Hes 23,2) 8 wie ich Israel, die Abtrünnige, wegen ihres Ehebruchs gestraft und sie entlassen und ihr einen Scheidebrief gegeben habe, scheute sich dennoch ihre Schwester, das treulose Juda, nicht, sondern ging hin und trieb auch Hurerei. 9 Und ihre leichtfertige Hurerei hat das Land unrein gemacht; denn sie trieb Ehebruch mit Stein und Holz. 10 Und auch in diesem allen bekehrte sich das treulose Juda, ihre Schwester, nicht zu mir von ganzem Herzen, sondern nur mit Heuchelei, spricht der HERR. 11 Und der HERR sprach zu mir: Das abtrünnige Israel steht gerechter da als das treulose Juda. 12 Geh hin und rufe diese Worte nach Norden und sprich: Kehre zurück, du abtrünniges Israel, spricht der HERR, so will ich nicht zornig auf euch blicken. Denn ich bin gnädig, spricht der HERR, und will nicht ewiglich zürnen. (2Mo 34,6; Ps 103,9) 13 Allein erkenne deine Schuld, dass du wider den HERRN, deinen Gott, gesündigt hast und bist hin und her gelaufen zu den fremden Göttern unter allen grünen Bäumen, und ihr habt meiner Stimme nicht gehorcht, spricht der HERR. 14 Kehrt um, ihr abtrünnigen Kinder, spricht der HERR, denn ich bin euer Herr! Und ich will euch holen, einen aus einer Stadt und zwei aus einem Geschlecht, und will euch bringen nach Zion. (Jer 29,14; Jer 31,32) 15 Und ich will euch Hirten geben nach meinem Herzen, die euch weiden sollen in Einsicht und Weisheit. (Jer 23,3; Hes 34,23) 16 Und es soll geschehen, wenn ihr zahlreich geworden seid und euch ausgebreitet habt im Lande, so soll man, spricht der HERR, in jenen Tagen nicht mehr sagen: Die Bundeslade des HERRN. Man wird ihrer nicht mehr gedenken noch nach ihr fragen noch sie vermissen; und sie wird nicht wieder gemacht werden. (4Mo 10,33) 17 Sondern zu jener Zeit wird man Jerusalem nennen »Des HERRN Thron«, und es werden sich dahin sammeln alle Völker um des Namens des HERRN willen zu Jerusalem, und sie werden nicht mehr wandeln in dem, was ihr böses Herz will. (Jes 2,2; Jer 17,12; Mi 4,1) 18 In jenen Tagen wird das Haus Juda zum Haus Israel gehen. Sie werden miteinander heimkommen von Norden her in das Land, das ich euren Vätern zum Erbe gegeben habe. (Jes 11,11; Hos 2,2) 19 Und ich dachte: Wie gern will ich dich unter die Söhne aufnehmen und dir das liebe Land geben, das allerschönste Erbteil unter den Völkern! Und ich dachte, du würdest mich dann »Lieber Vater« nennen und nicht von mir weichen. (5Mo 7,6; 5Mo 8,7; 5Mo 32,6; Jer 4,1)

20 Aber das Haus Israel hat mir nicht die Treue gehalten, gleichwie eine Frau wegen ihres Liebhabers nicht die Treue hält, spricht der HERR. 21 Man hört ein klägliches Heulen und Weinen der Israeliten auf den Höhen, weil sie übel getan und den HERRN, ihren Gott, vergessen haben. (Jer 31,15) 22 Kehrt zurück, ihr abtrünnigen Kinder, so will ich euch heilen von eurem Ungehorsam. »Siehe, wir kommen zu dir; denn du bist der HERR, unser Gott. 23 Wahrlich, es ist ja nichts als Betrug mit den Hügeln und mit dem Lärm auf den Bergen. Wahrlich, es hat Israel keine andere Hilfe als am HERRN, unserm Gott. 24 Der schändliche Baal hat gefressen, was unsere Väter erworben hatten, von unsrer Jugend an, ihre Schafe und Rinder, Söhne und Töchter. 25 So müssen wir uns betten in unsere Schande, und unsre Schmach soll uns bedecken. Denn wir haben gesündigt wider den HERRN, unsern Gott, wir und unsere Väter, von unsrer Jugend an bis auf den heutigen Tag, und haben nicht gehorcht der Stimme des HERRN, unseres Gottes.« (Jer 14,7; Jer 14,20)

1 ‘Suppose a man divorces his wife. What if she then marries another man? Should her first husband return to her again? If he does, won’t the land become completely “unclean”? People of Israel, you have lived like a prostitute. You have loved many other gods. So do you think you can return to me now?’ announces the LORD. 2 ‘Look up at the bare hilltops. Is there any place where you have not worshipped other gods? You have been unfaithful to me like a wife committing adultery. By the side of the road you sat waiting for lovers. You sat there like someone who wanders in the desert. You have made the land impure. You are like a sinful prostitute. 3 So I have held back the showers. I have kept the spring rains from falling. But you still have the bold face of a prostitute. You refuse to blush with shame. 4 You have just now called out to me. You said, “My Father, you have been my friend ever since I was young. 5 Will you always be angry with me? Will your anger continue for ever?” This is how you talk. But you do all the evil things you can.’

Israel is not faithful to the Lord

6 During the time Josiah was king, the LORD spoke to me. He said, ‘Have you seen what the people of Israel have done? They have not been faithful to me. They have committed adultery with other gods. They worshipped them on every high hill and under every green tree. 7 I thought that after they had done all this, they would return to me. But they did not. Their sister nation Judah saw them doing this. And they were not faithful to me either. 8 I gave Israel their letter of divorce. I sent them away because they were unfaithful to me so many times. But I saw that their sister nation Judah did not have any respect for me. They were not faithful to me either. They also went out and committed adultery with other gods. 9 Israel was not faithful to me, but that did not bother them at all. They made the land “unclean”. They worshipped gods that were made out of stone and wood. 10 In spite of all this, their sister nation Judah did not come back to me. They were not faithful to me either. They did not return with all their heart. They only pretended to,’ announces the LORD. 11 The LORD said to me, ‘Israel and Judah have not been faithful to me. But Israel was not as bad as Judah was. 12 Go. Announce this message to the people in the north. Tell them, ‘ “Israel, you have not been faithful,” announces the LORD. “Return to me. Then I will do good things for you again. That’s because I am faithful,” announces the LORD. “I will not be angry with you for ever. 13 Admit that you are guilty of doing what is wrong. You have refused to obey me. I am the LORD your God. You have committed adultery with other gods. You worshipped them under every green tree. And you have not obeyed me,” ’ announces the LORD. 14 ‘You people have not been faithful,’ announces the LORD. ‘Return to me. I am your husband. I will choose one of you from each town. I will choose two from each territory. And I will bring you to the city of Zion. 15 Then I will give you shepherds who are dear to my heart. Their knowledge and understanding will help them lead you. 16 In those days there will be many more of you in the land,’ announces the LORD. ‘Then people will not talk about the ark of the covenant of the LORD anymore. It will never enter their minds. They will not remember it. The ark will not be missed. And another one will not be made. 17 At that time they will call Jerusalem The Throne of the LORD. All the nations will gather together there. They will go there to honour me. They will no longer do what their stubborn and evil hearts want them to do. 18 In those days the people of Judah will join the people of Israel. Together they will come from a land in the north. They will come to the land I gave to your people of long ago. I wanted them to have it as their very own. 19 ‘I myself said, ‘ “I would gladly treat you like my children. I would give you a pleasant land. It is the most beautiful land any nation could have.” I thought you would call me “Father”. I hoped you would always obey me. 20 But you people are like a woman who is not faithful to her husband. Israel, you have not been faithful to me,’ announces the LORD. 21 A cry is heard on the bare hilltops. The people of Israel are weeping and begging for help. That’s because their lives are so twisted. They’ve forgotten the LORD their God. 22 ‘You have not been faithful,’ says the LORD. ‘Return to me. I will heal you. Then you will not turn away from me anymore.’ ‘Yes’, the people say. ‘We will come to you. You are the LORD our God. 23 The gods we worship on the hills and mountains are useless. You are the LORD our God. You are the only one who can save us. 24 From our earliest years shameful gods have harmed us. They have eaten up everything our people of long ago worked for. They have eaten up our flocks and herds. They’ve destroyed our sons and daughters. 25 Let us lie down in our shame. Let our dishonour cover us. You are the LORD our God. But we have sinned against you. We and our people of long ago have sinned. We haven’t obeyed you from our earliest years until now.’
