Die Verheißung für David und sein Königtum

1 Als nun der König in seinem Hause saß und der HERR ihm Ruhe gegeben hatte vor allen seinen Feinden umher, (5Mo 12,10; Jos 22,4; 1Kön 5,18; 1Chr 17,1)

2 sprach er zu dem Propheten Nathan: Sieh doch, ich wohne in einem Zedernhause, die Lade Gottes aber wohnt unter Zeltdecken. (2Sam 6,17; Ps 132,3) 3 Nathan sprach zu dem König: Wohlan, alles, was in deinem Herzen ist, das tu, denn der HERR ist mit dir. 4 In der Nacht aber kam das Wort des HERRN zu Nathan: 5 Geh hin und sage zu meinem Knecht David: So spricht der HERR: Solltest du mir ein Haus bauen, dass ich darin wohne? (1Kön 5,17; 1Chr 22,8) 6 Habe ich doch in keinem Hause gewohnt seit dem Tag, da ich die Israeliten aus Ägypten führte, bis auf diesen Tag, sondern ich bin umhergezogen in einem Zelt als Wohnung. (1Kön 8,16; 1Kön 8,27; Jes 66,1) 7 Habe ich die ganze Zeit, als ich mit allen Israeliten umherzog, je geredet zu einem der Richter Israels, denen ich befohlen hatte, mein Volk Israel zu weiden, und gesagt: Warum baut ihr mir nicht ein Zedernhaus? 8 Darum sollst du nun so zu meinem Knecht David sagen: So spricht der HERR Zebaoth: Ich habe dich genommen von den Schafhürden, dass du Fürst sein sollst über mein Volk Israel, (1Sam 16,11; 2Sam 5,2; 2Sam 6,21; Ps 78,70; Am 7,15)

9 und bin mit dir gewesen, wo immer du hingegangen bist, und habe alle deine Feinde vor dir ausgerottet; und ich will dir einen großen Namen machen gleich dem Namen der Großen auf Erden. 10 Und ich will meinem Volk Israel eine Stätte geben und will es pflanzen, dass es daselbst wohne und sich nicht mehr ängstigen müsse und die Kinder der Bosheit es nicht mehr bedrängen, wie vormals, (2Mo 15,17) 11 seit der Zeit, da ich Richter über mein Volk Israel bestellt habe. Ich will dir Ruhe geben vor allen deinen Feinden. Und der HERR verkündigt dir, dass der HERR dir ein Haus bauen will. (1Sam 25,28; 1Kön 11,38) 12 Wenn nun deine Zeit um ist und du dich zu deinen Vätern legst, will ich dir einen Nachkommen erwecken, der von deinem Leibe kommen wird; dem will ich sein Königtum bestätigen. 14 Ich will sein Vater sein, und er soll mein Sohn sein. Wenn er sündigt, will ich ihn mit Menschenruten und mit menschlichen Schlägen strafen; (Ps 2,7; Ps 89,27; Ps 89,31) 15 aber meine Gnade soll nicht von ihm weichen, wie ich sie habe weichen lassen von Saul, den ich vor dir weggenommen habe. (1Sam 15,23; 1Sam 15,26) 16 Aber dein Haus und dein Königtum sollen beständig sein in Ewigkeit vor dir, und dein Thron soll ewiglich bestehen. (Jes 55,3) 17 Als Nathan alle diese Worte und dieses Gesicht David gesagt hatte, 18 kam der König David und setzte sich vor dem HERRN nieder und sprach: Wer bin ich, Herr HERR, und was ist mein Haus, dass du mich bis hierher gebracht hast? (1Mo 32,11; 2Mo 3,11; 1Sam 18,18) 19 Aber nun hast du das noch für zu wenig gehalten, Herr HERR, und hast dem Hause deines Knechtes sogar für die ferne Zukunft Zusagen gegeben, und das nach Menschenweise, Herr HERR! 20 Und was soll David noch mehr reden mit dir? Du kennst ja deinen Knecht, Herr HERR! 21 Um deines Wortes willen und nach deinem Herzen hast du alle diese großen Dinge getan, dass du sie deinem Knecht kundtust. 22 Darum bist du groß, Herr HERR! Denn es ist keiner wie du, und ist kein Gott außer dir nach allem, was wir mit unsern Ohren gehört haben. (5Mo 4,35; 1Kön 8,23; Jes 44,6) 23 Und wo ist ein Volk auf Erden wie dein Volk Israel, um dessentwillen Gott hingegangen ist, es zu erlösen, dass es sein Volk sei, und ihm einen Namen zu machen und für euch so große und furchtbare Dinge zu tun, Völker und ihre Götter zu vertreiben vor deinem Volk, das du dir aus Ägypten erlöst hast? (5Mo 4,7) 24 Und du hast dir dein Volk Israel zubereitet, dir zum Volk in Ewigkeit, und du, HERR, bist ihr Gott geworden. (2Mo 6,7) 25 So bekräftige nun, HERR, Gott, das Wort in Ewigkeit, das du über deinen Knecht und über sein Haus geredet hast, und tu, wie du geredet hast! 26 So wird dein Name groß werden in Ewigkeit, dass man sagen wird: Der HERR Zebaoth ist Gott über Israel, und das Haus deines Knechtes David wird bestehen vor dir. 27 Denn du, HERR Zebaoth, du Gott Israels, hast das Ohr deines Knechts geöffnet und gesagt: Ich will dir ein Haus bauen. Darum hat dein Knecht sich ein Herz gefasst, dass er dies Gebet zu dir gebetet hat. (Jes 50,5) 28 Nun, Herr HERR, du bist Gott, und deine Worte sind Wahrheit. Du hast all dies Gute deinem Knecht zugesagt. (1Kön 8,26) 29 So fange nun an und segne das Haus deines Knechts, dass es ewiglich vor dir sei; denn du, Herr HERR, hast’s geredet, und mit deinem Segen wird deines Knechtes Haus gesegnet sein ewiglich.

God’s promise to David

1 The king moved into his palace. The LORD had given him peace and rest from all his enemies around him. 2 Then the king spoke to Nathan the prophet. He said, ‘Here I am, living in a house that has beautiful cedar walls. But the ark of God remains in a tent.’ 3 Nathan replied to the king, ‘Go ahead and do what you want to. The LORD is with you.’ 4 But that night the word of the LORD came to Nathan. The LORD said, 5 ‘Go and speak to my servant David. Tell him, “The LORD says, ‘Are you the one to build me a house to live in? 6 I brought the Israelites up out of Egypt. But I have not lived in a house from then until now. I have been moving from place to place. I have been living in a tent. 7 I have moved from place to place with all the Israelites. I commanded their rulers to be shepherds over them. I never asked any of those rulers, “Why haven’t you built me a house that has beautiful cedar walls?” ’ ” 8 ‘So tell my servant David, “The LORD who rules over all says, ‘I took you away from the grasslands. That’s where you were taking care of your father’s sheep and goats. I made you ruler over my people Israel. 9 I have been with you everywhere you have gone. I have destroyed all your enemies. Now I will make you famous. Your name will be just as respected as the names of the most important people on earth. 10 I will provide a place where my people Israel can live. I will plant them in the land. Then they will have a home of their own. They will not be bothered anymore. Evil people will no longer crush them, as they did at first. 11 That is what your enemies have done ever since I appointed leaders over my people Israel. But I will give you peace and rest from all of them. ‘ “ ‘I tell you that I, the LORD, will set up a royal house for you. 12 Some day your life will come to an end. You will join the members of your family who have already died. Then I will make one of your own sons the next king after you. And I will make his kingdom secure. 13 He is the one who will build a house where I will put my Name. I will set up the throne of his kingdom. It will last for ever. 14 I will be his father. And he will be my son. When he does what is wrong, I will use other men to beat him with rods and whips. 15 I took my love away from Saul. I removed him from being king. You were there when I did it. But I will never take my love away from your son. 16 Your royal house and your kingdom will last for ever in my sight. Your throne will last for ever.’ ” ’ 17 Nathan reported to David all the words that the LORD had spoken to him.

David’s prayer to the Lord

18 Then King David went into the holy tent. He sat down in front of the LORD. He said, ‘LORD and King, who am I? My family isn’t important. So why have you brought me this far? 19 I would have thought that you had already done more than enough for me. But now, LORD and King, you have also said what will happen to my royal house in days to come. And, my LORD and King, this promise is for a mere human being! 20 ‘What more can I say to you? LORD and King, you know all about me. 21 You have done a wonderful thing. You have made it known to me. You have done it because that’s what you said you would do. It’s exactly what you wanted to do for me. 22 ‘LORD and King, how great you are! There isn’t anyone like you. There isn’t any God but you. We have heard about it with our own ears. 23 Who is like your people Israel? God, we are the one nation on earth you have saved. You have set us free for yourself. Your name has become famous. You have done great and wonderful things. You have driven out nations and their gods to make room for your people. You saved us when you set us free from Egypt. 24 You made Israel your very own people for ever. LORD, you have become our God. 25 ‘And now, LORD God, keep for ever the promise you have made to me and my royal house. Do exactly as you promised. 26 Then your name will be honoured for ever. People will say, “The LORD rules over all. He is God over Israel.” My royal house will be made secure in your sight. 27 ‘LORD who rules over all, you are the God of Israel. Here’s what you have shown me. You told me, “I will build you a royal house.” So I can boldly pray this prayer to you. 28 LORD and King, you are God! Your covenant can be trusted. You have promised many good things to me. 29 Now please bless my royal house. Then it will continue for ever in your sight. LORD and King, you have spoken. Because you have given my royal house your blessing, it will be blessed for ever.’
