1Und die ganze Gemeinde der Israeliten zog aus der Wüste Sin weiter ihre Tagereisen, wie ihnen der HERR befahl, und sie lagerten sich in Refidim. Da hatte das Volk kein Wasser zu trinken. (4Mo 33,12)2Und sie haderten mit Mose und sprachen: Gib uns Wasser, dass wir trinken. Mose sprach zu ihnen: Was hadert ihr mit mir? Warum versucht ihr den HERRN? (5Mo 6,16)3Als aber dort das Volk nach Wasser dürstete, murrten sie wider Mose und sprachen: Warum hast du uns aus Ägypten ziehen lassen, dass du uns, unsere Kinder und unser Vieh vor Durst sterben lässt? (2Mo 15,24; 2Mo 16,2; 4Mo 14,2; 4Mo 17,6)4Mose schrie zum HERRN und sprach: Was soll ich mit dem Volk tun? Es fehlt nicht viel, so werden sie mich noch steinigen. (4Mo 14,10)5Der HERR sprach zu ihm: Geh vor dem Volk her und nimm einige von den Ältesten Israels mit dir und nimm deinen Stab in deine Hand, mit dem du den Nil schlugst, und geh hin. (2Mo 7,20)6Siehe, ich will dort vor dir stehen auf dem Fels am Horeb. Da sollst du an den Fels schlagen, so wird Wasser herauslaufen, dass das Volk trinke. Und Mose tat so vor den Augen der Ältesten von Israel. (4Mo 20,11; 1Kor 10,4)7Da nannte er den Ort Massa und Meriba, weil die Israeliten dort gehadert und den HERRN versucht und gesagt hatten: Ist der HERR unter uns oder nicht? (Ps 95,8; Mi 3,11)
Sieg über die Amalekiter
8Da kam Amalek und kämpfte gegen Israel in Refidim. (1Mo 36,12; 1Mo 36,16)9Da sprach Mose zu Josua: Erwähle uns Männer, zieh aus und kämpfe gegen Amalek. Morgen will ich oben auf dem Hügel stehen mit dem Stab Gottes in meiner Hand. (4Mo 13,8; 4Mo 13,16)10Und Josua tat, wie Mose ihm sagte, und kämpfte gegen Amalek. Mose aber und Aaron und Hur gingen auf die Höhe des Hügels. (2Mo 24,14)11Und wenn Mose seine Hand emporhielt, siegte Israel; wenn er aber seine Hand sinken ließ, siegte Amalek.12Aber Mose wurden die Hände schwer; darum nahmen sie einen Stein und legten ihn hin, dass er sich daraufsetzte. Aaron aber und Hur stützten ihm die Hände, auf jeder Seite einer. So blieben seine Hände erhoben, bis die Sonne unterging.13Und Josua überwältigte Amalek und sein Volk durch des Schwertes Schärfe.14Und der HERR sprach zu Mose: Schreibe dies zum Gedächtnis in ein Buch und präge es Josua ein; denn ich will die Erinnerung an Amalek unter dem Himmel austilgen. (5Mo 25,17; 1Sam 15,2)15Und Mose baute einen Altar und nannte ihn: Der HERR mein Feldzeichen.16Und er sprach: Die Hand an den Thron des HERRN! Der HERR führt Krieg gegen Amalek von Kind zu Kindeskind. (Jer 3,17)
1The whole community of Israel started out from the Desert of Sin. They travelled from place to place, just as the LORD commanded. They camped at Rephidim. But there wasn’t any water for the people to drink.2So they argued with Moses. They said, ‘Give us water to drink.’ Moses replied, ‘Why are you arguing with me? Why are you testing the LORD?’3But the people were thirsty for water there. So they told Moses they weren’t happy with him. They said, ‘Why did you bring us up out of Egypt? Did you want us, our children and our livestock to die of thirst?’4Then Moses cried out to the LORD. He said, ‘What am I going to do with these people? They are almost ready to kill me by throwing stones at me.’5The LORD answered Moses. ‘Go out in front of the people. Take some of the elders of Israel along with you. Take in your hand the walking stick you used when you struck the River Nile. Go.6I will stand there in front of you by the rock at Mount Horeb. Hit the rock. Then water will come out of it for the people to drink.’ So Moses hit the rock while the elders of Israel watched.7Moses called the place Massah and Meribah. That’s because the people of Israel argued with him there. They also tested the LORD. They asked, ‘Is the LORD among us or not?’
Joshua wins the battle over the Amalekites
8The Amalekites came and attacked the Israelites at Rephidim.9Moses said to Joshua, ‘Choose some of our men. Then go out and fight against the Amalekites. Tomorrow I will stand on top of the hill. I’ll stand there holding the walking stick God gave me.’10So Joshua fought against the Amalekites, just as Moses had ordered. Moses, Aaron and Hur went to the top of the hill.11As long as Moses held up his hand, the Israelites were winning. But every time he lowered his hands, the Amalekites began to win.12When Moses’ arms got tired, Aaron and Hur got a stone and put it under him. Then he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held up his hands. Aaron was on one side, and Hur was on the other. Moses’ hands remained steady until sunset.13So Joshua destroyed the Amalekite army with swords.14Then the LORD said to Moses, ‘This is something to be remembered. So write it on a scroll. Make sure Joshua knows you have done it. I will completely erase the memory of the Amalekites from the earth.’15Then Moses built an altar. He called it The LORD Is My Banner.16He said, ‘The Amalekites opposed the authority of the LORD. So the LORD will fight against the Amalekites for all time to come.’
