Jakobs Segen über Ephraim und Manasse

1 Danach wurde Josef gesagt: Siehe, dein Vater ist krank. Und er nahm mit sich seine beiden Söhne Manasse und Ephraim. 2 Da wurde Jakob angesagt: Siehe, dein Sohn Josef kommt zu dir. Und Israel machte sich stark und setzte sich auf im Bett 3 und sprach zu Josef: Der allmächtige Gott erschien mir zu Lus im Lande Kanaan und segnete mich (1Mo 17,1; 1Mo 28,12; 2Mo 6,2) 4 und sprach zu mir: Siehe, ich will dich wachsen lassen und mehren und will dich zu einer Menge von Völkern machen und will dies Land zu eigen geben deinen Nachkommen für alle Zeit. (1Mo 17,8; 1Mo 35,11) 5 So sollen nun deine beiden Söhne Ephraim und Manasse, die dir geboren sind in Ägyptenland, ehe ich hergekommen bin zu dir, mein sein. Ephraim und Manasse sollen für mich sein wie Ruben und Simeon. (1Mo 41,50) 6 Die Nachkommen aber, die du nach ihnen zeugst, sollen dein sein und genannt werden nach dem Namen ihrer Brüder in deren Erbteil. 7 Und als ich aus Mesopotamien kam, starb mir Rahel im Land Kanaan auf der Reise, als es nur noch eine kleine Strecke Weges war bis Efrata, und ich begrub sie dort an dem Wege nach Efrata, das nun Bethlehem heißt. (1Mo 35,19) 8 Und Israel sah die Söhne Josefs und sprach: Wer sind die? 9 Josef antwortete seinem Vater: Es sind meine Söhne, die mir Gott hier gegeben hat. Er sprach: Bringe sie her zu mir, dass ich sie segne. 10 Denn die Augen Israels waren schwach geworden vor Alter, und er konnte nicht mehr sehen. Und er ließ sie herzutreten und küsste und herzte sie. 11 Und Israel sprach zu Josef: Siehe, ich habe dein Angesicht gesehen, was ich nicht gedacht hätte, und siehe, Gott hat mich auch deine Söhne sehen lassen. 12 Und Josef nahm sie von seinem Schoß und verneigte sich vor ihm zur Erde. 13 Dann nahm sie Josef beide, Ephraim an seine rechte Hand gegenüber Israels linker Hand und Manasse an seine linke Hand gegenüber Israels rechter Hand, und brachte sie zu ihm. 14 Aber Israel streckte seine rechte Hand aus und legte sie auf Ephraims, des Jüngeren, Haupt und seine linke auf Manasses Haupt und kreuzte seine Arme, obwohl Manasse der Erstgeborene war. 15 Und er segnete Josef und sprach: Der Gott, vor dem meine Väter Abraham und Isaak gewandelt sind, der Gott, der mein Hirte gewesen ist mein Leben lang bis auf diesen Tag, (1Mo 32,10; Ps 23,1) 16 der Engel, der mich erlöst hat von allem Übel, der segne die Knaben, dass durch sie mein und meiner Väter Abraham und Isaak Name fortlebe, dass sie wachsen und viel werden auf Erden. (1Mo 32,25; Jes 41,14) 17 Als aber Josef sah, dass sein Vater die rechte Hand auf Ephraims Haupt legte, missfiel es ihm, und er fasste seines Vaters Hand, dass er sie von Ephraims Haupt auf Manasses Haupt wendete, 18 und sprach zu ihm: Nicht so, mein Vater, dieser ist der Erstgeborene; lege deine rechte Hand auf sein Haupt. 19 Aber sein Vater weigerte sich und sprach: Ich weiß wohl, mein Sohn, ich weiß wohl. Dieser soll auch ein Volk werden und wird groß sein, aber sein jüngerer Bruder wird größer als er werden, und sein Geschlecht wird eine Menge von Völkern werden. (4Mo 1,33; 4Mo 1,35; 5Mo 33,17) 20 So segnete er sie an jenem Tage und sprach: Wer in Israel jemanden segnen will, der sage: Gott mache dich wie Ephraim und Manasse! Und so setzte er Ephraim vor Manasse. (Hebr 11,21) 21 Und Israel sprach zu Josef: Siehe, ich sterbe; aber Gott wird mit euch sein und wird euch zurückbringen in das Land eurer Väter. 22 Ich gebe dir Sichem als Vorzug vor deinen Brüdern, das ich mit meinem Schwert und Bogen aus der Hand der Amoriter genommen habe. (1Mo 34,1; Jos 24,30)

1 Some time later Joseph was told, ‘Your father is ill.’ So he took his two sons Manasseh and Ephraim along with him. 2 Jacob was told, ‘Your son Joseph has come to you.’ So Israel became stronger and sat up in bed. 3 Jacob said to Joseph, ‘The Mighty God appeared to me at Luz in the land of Canaan. He blessed me there. 4 He said to me, “I am going to give you children. I will make your family very large. I will make you a community of nations. And I will give this land to your children after you. It will belong to them for ever.” 5 ‘Now then, two sons were born to you in Egypt. It happened before I came to you here. They will be counted as my own sons. Ephraim and Manasseh will belong to me, in the same way that Reuben and Simeon belong to me. 6 Any children born to you after them will belong to you. Any territory they receive will come from the land that will be given to Ephraim and Manasseh. 7 As I was returning from Paddan, Rachel died. It made me very sad. She died in the land of Canaan while we were still on the way. We weren’t very far away from Ephrath. So I buried her body there beside the road to Ephrath.’ Ephrath was also called Bethlehem. 8 Israel saw Joseph’s sons. He asked, ‘Who are they?’ 9 ‘They are the sons God has given me here,’ Joseph said to his father. Then Israel said, ‘Bring them to me. I want to give them my blessing.’ 10 Israel’s eyes were weak because he was old. He couldn’t see very well. So Joseph brought his sons close to him. His father kissed them and hugged them. 11 Israel said to Joseph, ‘I never thought I’d see your face again. But now God has let me see your children too.’ 12 Then Joseph lifted his sons off Israel’s knees. Joseph bowed down with his face to the ground. 13 He placed Ephraim on his right, towards Israel’s left hand. He placed Manasseh on his left, towards Israel’s right hand. Then he brought them close to Israel. 14 But Israel reached out his right hand and put it on Ephraim’s head. He did it even though Ephraim was the younger son. He crossed his arms and put his left hand on Manasseh’s head. He did it even though Manasseh was the older son. 15 Then Israel gave Joseph his blessing. He said, ‘May God bless these boys. He is the God of my grandfather Abraham and my father Isaac. They walked faithfully with him. He is the God who has been my shepherd all my life right up to this day. 16 He is the Angel who has saved me from all harm. May he bless these boys. May they be called by my name. May they also be called by the names of my grandfather Abraham and my father Isaac. And may the number of them greatly increase on the earth.’ 17 Joseph saw his father putting his right hand on Ephraim’s head. And Joseph didn’t like it. So he took hold of his father’s hand to move it over to Manasseh’s head. 18 Joseph said to him, ‘No, my father. Here’s my older son. Put your right hand on his head.’ 19 But his father wouldn’t do it. He said, ‘I know, my son. I know. He too will become a nation. He too will become great. But his younger brother will be greater than he is. His children after him will become a group of nations.’ 20 On that day, Jacob gave them his blessing. He said, ‘The people of Israel will bless others in your name. They will say, “May God make you like Ephraim and Manasseh.” ’ So he put Ephraim ahead of Manasseh. 21 Then Israel said to Joseph, ‘I’m about to die. But God will be with all of you. He’ll take you back to the land of your fathers. 22 But to you, Joseph, I am giving more land than your brothers. I’m giving you the land I took from the Amorites. I took it with my sword and bow.’
