3 Gnade sei mit euch und Friede von Gott, unserm Vater, und dem Herrn Jesus Christus!

Dank für Gottes reiche Gaben in Korinth

4 Ich danke meinem Gott allezeit euretwegen für die Gnade Gottes, die euch gegeben ist in Christus Jesus, 5 dass ihr durch ihn in allen Stücken reich gemacht seid, in allem Wort und in aller Erkenntnis. (2Kor 8,7) 6 Denn die Predigt von Christus ist unter euch kräftig geworden, 7 sodass ihr keinen Mangel habt an irgendeiner Gabe und wartet nur auf die Offenbarung unseres Herrn Jesus Christus. (Phil 3,20) 8 Der wird euch auch fest machen bis ans Ende, dass ihr untadelig seid am Tag unseres Herrn Jesus Christus. (Phil 1,6; Phil 1,10; Kol 1,22; 1Thess 3,13)

Spaltungen in der Gemeinde

10 Ich ermahne euch aber, Brüder und Schwestern, im Namen unseres Herrn Jesus Christus, dass ihr alle mit einer Stimme redet; und lasst keine Spaltungen unter euch sein, sondern haltet aneinander fest in einem Sinn und in einer Meinung. (Röm 15,5; 1Kor 11,18; Phil 2,2) 11 Denn es ist mir bekannt geworden über euch, meine Brüder und Schwestern, durch die Leute der Chloë, dass Streit unter euch ist. 12 Ich meine aber dies, dass unter euch der eine sagt: Ich gehöre zu Paulus, der andere: Ich zu Apollos, der Dritte: Ich zu Kephas, der Vierte: Ich zu Christus. (Joh 1,42; Apg 18,24; 1Kor 3,4) 13 Wie? Ist Christus etwa zerteilt? Wurde denn Paulus für euch gekreuzigt? Oder seid ihr auf den Namen des Paulus getauft? 14 Ich danke Gott, dass ich niemanden unter euch getauft habe außer Krispus und Gaius, (Apg 18,8; Röm 16,23) 15 damit nicht jemand sagen kann, ihr wäret auf meinen Namen getauft. 16 Ich habe aber auch Stephanas und sein Haus getauft; sonst weiß ich nicht, ob ich noch jemanden getauft habe. (1Kor 16,15) 17 Denn Christus hat mich nicht gesandt zu taufen, sondern das Evangelium zu predigen – nicht mit weiser Rede, auf dass nicht das Kreuz Christi zunichtewerde. (Gal 1,15)

Das Wort vom Kreuz als Weisheit und Kraft Gottes

18 Denn das Wort vom Kreuz ist eine Torheit denen, die verloren werden; uns aber, die wir selig werden, ist es Gottes Kraft. (Röm 1,16; 2Kor 4,3) 19 Denn es steht geschrieben: »Ich will zunichtemachen die Weisheit der Weisen, und den Verstand der Verständigen will ich verwerfen.« 20 Wo sind die Klugen? Wo sind die Schriftgelehrten? Wo sind die Weisen dieser Welt? Hat nicht Gott die Weisheit der Welt zur Torheit gemacht? (Jes 44,25; Mt 11,25; Röm 1,22) 21 Denn weil die Welt durch ihre Weisheit Gott in seiner Weisheit nicht erkannte, gefiel es Gott wohl, durch die Torheit der Predigt selig zu machen, die da glauben. 22 Denn die Juden fordern Zeichen und die Griechen fragen nach Weisheit, (Mt 12,38; Joh 4,48; Apg 17,18) 23 wir aber predigen Christus, den Gekreuzigten, den Juden ein Ärgernis und den Heiden eine Torheit; (1Kor 2,14; Gal 5,11) 24 denen aber, die berufen sind, Juden und Griechen, predigen wir Christus als Gottes Kraft und Gottes Weisheit. (Kol 2,3) 25 Denn die göttliche Torheit ist weiser, als die Menschen sind, und die göttliche Schwachheit ist stärker, als die Menschen sind. 26 Seht doch, Brüder und Schwestern, auf eure Berufung. Nicht viele Weise nach dem Fleisch, nicht viele Mächtige, nicht viele Vornehme sind berufen. (Jak 2,5) 27 Sondern was töricht ist vor der Welt, das hat Gott erwählt, damit er die Weisen zuschanden mache; und was schwach ist vor der Welt, das hat Gott erwählt, damit er zuschanden mache, was stark ist; 28 und was gering ist vor der Welt und was verachtet ist, das hat Gott erwählt, was nichts ist, damit er zunichtemache, was etwas ist, 29 auf dass sich kein Mensch vor Gott rühme. (Röm 3,27; Eph 2,9) 30 Durch ihn aber seid ihr in Christus Jesus, der für uns zur Weisheit wurde durch Gott und zur Gerechtigkeit und zur Heiligung und zur Erlösung, (Jer 23,5; Mt 20,28; Joh 17,19; 2Kor 5,21)

1 I, Paul, am writing this letter. I have been chosen to be an apostle of Christ Jesus just as God planned. Our brother Sosthenes joins me in writing. 2 We are sending this letter to you, the members of God’s church in Corinth. You have been made holy because you belong to Christ Jesus. God has chosen you to be his holy people. He has done the same for all people everywhere who pray to our Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus is their Lord and ours. 3 May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace.

Paul gives thanks

4 I always thank my God for you. I thank him because of the grace he has given to you who belong to Christ Jesus. 5 You have been blessed in every way because of him. You have been blessed in all your speech and knowledge. 6 God has shown that what we have spoken to you about Christ is true. 7 There is no gift of the Holy Spirit that you don’t have. You are full of hope as you wait for our Lord Jesus Christ to come again. 8 God will also keep you strong in faith to the very end. Then you will be without blame on the day our Lord Jesus Christ returns. 9 God is faithful. He has chosen you to share life with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

Taking sides in the church

10 Brothers and sisters, I make my appeal to you. I do this in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. I ask that all of you agree with one another in what you say. I ask that you don’t take sides. I ask that you are in complete agreement in all that you think. 11 My brothers and sisters, I have been told you are arguing with one another. Some people from Chloe’s house have told me this. 12 Here is what I mean. One of you says, ‘I follow Paul.’ Another says, ‘I follow Apollos.’ Another says, ‘I follow Peter.’ And still another says, ‘I follow Christ.’ 13 Does Christ take sides? Did Paul die on the cross for you? Were you baptised in the name of Paul? 14 I thank God that I didn’t baptise any of you except Crispus and Gaius. 15 No one can say that you were baptised in my name. 16 It’s true that I also baptised those who live in the house of Stephanas. Besides that, I don’t remember if I baptised anyone else. 17 Christ did not send me to baptise. He sent me to preach the good news. He commanded me not to preach with wisdom and fancy words. That would take all the power away from the cross of Christ.

Christ is God’s power and wisdom

18 The message of the cross seems foolish to those who are lost and dying. But it is God’s power to us who are being saved. 19 It is written, ‘I will destroy the wisdom of those who are wise. I will do away with the cleverness of those who think they are so smart.’ (Jes 29,14) 20 Where is the wise person? Where is the teacher of the law? Where are the great thinkers of our time? Hasn’t God made the wisdom of the world foolish? 21 God wisely planned that the world would not know him through its own wisdom. It pleased God to use the foolish things we preach to save those who believe. 22 Jews require signs. Greeks look for wisdom. 23 But we preach about Christ and his death on the cross. That is very hard for Jews to accept. And everyone else thinks it’s foolish. 24 But there are those God has chosen, both Jews and Greeks. To them Christ is God’s power and God’s wisdom. 25 The foolish things of God are wiser than human wisdom. The weakness of God is stronger than human strength. 26 Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when God chose you. Not many of you were considered wise by human standards. Not many of you were powerful. Not many of you belonged to important families. 27 But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise. God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. 28 God chose the things of this world that are common and looked down on. God chose things considered unimportant to do away with things considered important. 29 So no one can boast to God. 30 Because of what God has done, you belong to Christ Jesus. He has become God’s wisdom for us. He makes us right with God. He makes us holy and sets us free. 31 It is written, ‘The one who boasts should boast about what the Lord has done.’ (Jer 9,24)
