1(Kap 13,1–14,32: vgl. Kap 21,1-10 Dies ist die Last[1] für Babel, die Jesaja, der Sohn des Amoz, geschaut hat: (Jes 47,1; Jer 23,33; Jer 50,1)2Auf kahlem Berge erhebt das Banner, ruft laut ihnen zu, winkt mit der Hand, dass sie einziehen durch die Tore der Fürsten.3Ich habe meine Geheiligten aufgeboten und meine Starken gerufen zu meinem Zorngericht; sie jauchzen über meine Herrlichkeit.4Es ist Geschrei und Lärm auf den Bergen wie von einem großen Volk, Geschrei und Getümmel von den versammelten Königreichen der Völker. Der HERR Zebaoth rüstet ein Heer zum Kampf.5Sie kommen aus fernen Landen, vom Ende des Himmels, ja, der HERR selbst samt den Werkzeugen seines Zorns, um zu verderben die ganze Erde.6Heulet, denn des HERRN Tag ist nahe; er kommt wie eine Verwüstung vom Allmächtigen. (Joe 1,15; Joe 2,1; Ob 1,15)7Darum werden alle Hände schlaff, und aller Menschen Herz wird feige sein.8Schrecken, Angst und Schmerzen wird sie ankommen, es wird ihnen bange sein wie einer Gebärenden. Einer wird sich vor dem andern entsetzen, feuerrot werden ihre Angesichter sein.9Siehe, des HERRN Tag kommt, grausam, voll Grimm und glühendem Zorn, die Erde zu verwüsten und die Sünder von ihr zu vertilgen.10Denn die Sterne am Himmel und sein Orion scheinen nicht hell, die Sonne geht finster auf, und der Mond gibt keinen Schein. (Hes 32,7; Joe 2,10; Am 5,8; Mt 24,29)11Ich will den Erdkreis heimsuchen um seiner Bosheit willen und die Gottlosen um ihrer Missetat willen und will dem Hochmut der Stolzen ein Ende machen und die Hoffart der Gewaltigen demütigen,12dass ein Mann kostbarer sein soll als feinstes Gold und ein Mensch wertvoller als Goldstücke aus Ofir.13Darum will ich den Himmel zittern lassen, die Erde soll beben und von ihrer Stätte weichen durch den Grimm des HERRN Zebaoth, am Tage seines glühenden Zorns.14Und sie sollen sein wie eine verscheuchte Gazelle und wie eine Herde ohne Hirten, dass sich ein jeder zu seinem Volk kehren und ein jeder in sein Land fliehen wird.15Wer da gefunden wird, wird erstochen, und wen man aufgreift, wird durchs Schwert fallen.16Es sollen auch ihre Kinder vor ihren Augen zerschmettert, ihre Häuser geplündert und ihre Frauen geschändet werden. (Ps 137,8; Kla 5,11)17Siehe, ich will die Meder gegen sie erwecken, die nicht Silber suchen oder nach Gold fragen,18sondern die jungen Männer mit Bogen erschießen und sich der Frucht des Leibes nicht erbarmen und die Kinder nicht schonen.19So soll Babel, das schönste unter den Königreichen, die herrliche Pracht der Chaldäer, zerstört werden von Gott wie Sodom und Gomorra, (1Mo 19,24; Jes 1,7)20dass man hinfort nicht mehr da wohne noch jemand da bleibe für und für, dass auch Araber dort keine Zelte aufschlagen noch Hirten ihre Herden lagern lassen,21sondern Wüstentiere werden sich da lagern, und ihre Häuser werden voll Eulen sein; Strauße werden da wohnen, und Bocksgeister werden da hüpfen, (Jes 34,13)22und wilde Hunde werden in ihren Palästen heulen und Schakale in den Schlössern der Lust. Ihre Zeit wird bald kommen, und ihre Tage lassen nicht auf sich warten.
1A prophecy against Babylon that Isaiah son of Amoz saw:2Raise a banner on a bare hilltop, shout to them; beckon to them to enter the gates of the nobles.3I have commanded those I prepared for battle; I have summoned my warriors to carry out my wrath – those who rejoice in my triumph.4Listen, a noise on the mountains, like that of a great multitude! Listen, an uproar among the kingdoms, like nations massing together! The Lord Almighty is mustering an army for war.5They come from faraway lands, from the ends of the heavens – the Lord and the weapons of his wrath – to destroy the whole country.6Wail, for the day of the Lord is near; it will come like destruction from the Almighty.[1]7Because of this, all hands will go limp, every heart will melt with fear.8Terror will seize them, pain and anguish will grip them; they will writhe like a woman in labour. They will look aghast at each other, their faces aflame.9See, the day of the Lord is coming – a cruel day, with wrath and fierce anger – to make the land desolate and destroy the sinners within it.10The stars of heaven and their constellations will not show their light. The rising sun will be darkened and the moon will not give its light.11I will punish the world for its evil, the wicked for their sins. I will put an end to the arrogance of the haughty and will humble the pride of the ruthless.12I will make people scarcer than pure gold, more rare than the gold of Ophir.13Therefore I will make the heavens tremble; and the earth will shake from its place at the wrath of the Lord Almighty, in the day of his burning anger.14Like a hunted gazelle, like sheep without a shepherd, they will all return to their own people, they will flee to their native land.15Whoever is captured will be thrust through; all who are caught will fall by the sword.16Their infants will be dashed to pieces before their eyes; their houses will be looted and their wives violated.17See, I will stir up against them the Medes, who do not care for silver and have no delight in gold.18Their bows will strike down the young men; they will have no mercy on infants, nor will they look with compassion on children.19Babylon, the jewel of kingdoms, the pride and glory of the Babylonians,[2] will be overthrown by God like Sodom and Gomorrah.20She will never be inhabited or lived in through all generations; there no nomads will pitch their tents, there no shepherds will rest their flocks.21But desert creatures will lie there, jackals will fill her houses; there the owls will dwell, and there the wild goats will leap about.22Hyenas will inhabit her strongholds, jackals her luxurious palaces. Her time is at hand, and her days will not be prolonged.
