Aufruhr und Untergang der Rotte Korach

1 Und Korach^[1], der Sohn Jizhars, des Sohnes Kehats, des Sohnes Levis, dazu Datan und Abiram, die Söhne Eliabs, und On, der Sohn Pelets, die Söhne Rubens, (2Mo 6,16; 2Mo 6,18; 2Mo 6,21; 4Mo 26,7; Jud 1,11)

2 die empörten sich gegen Mose, dazu zweihundertfünfzig Männer unter den Israeliten, Vorsteher der Gemeinde, von der Versammlung berufen, namhafte Leute. (4Mo 12,1) 3 Und sie versammelten sich gegen Mose und Aaron und sprachen zu ihnen: Ihr geht zu weit! Denn die ganze Gemeinde, sie alle sind heilig, und der HERR ist unter ihnen. Warum erhebt ihr euch über die Gemeinde des HERRN? 4 Als Mose das hörte, fiel er auf sein Angesicht (4Mo 14,5) 5 und sprach zu Korach und zu seiner ganzen Rotte: Morgen wird der HERR kundtun, wer ihm gehört, wer heilig ist und zu ihm nahen soll; wen er erwählt, der soll zu ihm nahen. (2Tim 2,19) 6 Dies tut: Nehmt euch Pfannen, Korach und seine ganze Rotte, 7 und legt Feuer hinein und tut Räucherwerk darauf vor dem HERRN am Morgen. Wen dann der HERR erwählt, der ist heilig. Ihr geht zu weit, ihr Söhne Levi! 8 Und Mose sprach zu Korach: Höret doch, ihr Söhne Levi! 9 Ist’s euch zu wenig, dass euch der Gott Israels ausgesondert hat aus der Gemeinde Israel, ihm zu nahen, damit ihr den Dienst für die Wohnung des HERRN verseht und vor die Gemeinde tretet, um ihr zu dienen? (4Mo 3,6; 4Mo 4,4) 10 Er hat dich und mit dir alle deine Brüder, die Söhne Levi, zu sich nahen lassen – und ihr sucht nun auch das Priestertum? 11 Du und deine ganze Rotte, ihr macht einen Aufruhr wider den HERRN! Es ist nicht allein Aaron, gegen den ihr murrt. 12 Und Mose schickte hin und ließ Datan und Abiram rufen, die Söhne Eliabs. Da sprachen sie: Wir ziehen nicht hinauf^[2]! 13 Ist’s nicht genug, dass du uns aus dem Lande geführt hast, darin Milch und Honig fließt, und uns tötest in der Wüste? Musst du auch noch über uns herrschen? 14 Wie fein hast du uns gebracht in ein Land, darin Milch und Honig fließt, und hast uns Äcker und Weinberge zum Erbteil gegeben! Willst du den Leuten auch die Augen ausreißen? Wir ziehen nicht hinauf! (2Mo 3,8) 15 Da ergrimmte Mose sehr und sprach zu dem HERRN: Wende dich nicht zu ihrem Opfer. Ich habe nicht einen Esel von ihnen genommen und habe keinem von ihnen ein Leid getan. (1Sam 12,3) 16 Und Mose sprach zu Korach: Du und deine ganze Rotte, ihr sollt morgen vor den HERRN kommen, du und sie und Aaron. 17 Und ein jeder nehme seine Pfanne und lege Räucherwerk darauf, und tretet hin vor den HERRN, ein jeder mit seiner Pfanne, zweihundertfünfzig Pfannen; auch du und Aaron, ein jeder mit seiner Pfanne. 18 Und ein jeder nahm seine Pfanne und legte Feuer hinein und tat Räucherwerk darauf, und sie traten vor den Eingang der Stiftshütte und Mose und Aaron auch. 19 Und Korach versammelte gegen sie die ganze Gemeinde vor dem Eingang der Stiftshütte. Da erschien die Herrlichkeit des HERRN vor der ganzen Gemeinde. (4Mo 14,10) 20 Und der HERR redete mit Mose und Aaron und sprach: 21 Scheidet euch von dieser Gemeinde, damit ich sie im Nu vertilge. (1Mo 19,14) 22 Sie fielen aber auf ihr Angesicht und sprachen: Ach, Gott, der du bist der Gott des Lebensodems für alles Fleisch, wenn ein einziger Mann gesündigt hat, willst du darum gegen die ganze Gemeinde wüten? (2Sam 24,17; Hi 10,12; Hi 12,10) 23 Und der HERR redete mit Mose und sprach: 24 Sage der Gemeinde: Weicht ringsherum zurück von der Wohnung Korachs und Datans und Abirams. 25 Und Mose stand auf und ging zu Datan und Abiram, und die Ältesten Israels folgten ihm nach; 26 und er redete mit der Gemeinde und sprach: Weicht von den Zelten dieser ruchlosen Menschen und rührt nichts an, was sie haben, damit ihr nicht auch umkommt durch all ihre Sünde. 27 Da kehrten sie sich ab von der Wohnung Korachs, Datans und Abirams. Datan aber und Abiram gingen heraus und traten an die Tür ihrer Zelte mit ihren Frauen und Söhnen und kleinen Kindern. 28 Und Mose sprach: Daran sollt ihr merken, dass mich der HERR gesandt hat, alle diese Werke zu tun, und dass ich sie nicht tue aus meinem eigenen Herzen: 29 Werden sie sterben, wie alle Menschen sterben, oder heimgesucht, wie alle Menschen heimgesucht werden, so hat mich der HERR nicht gesandt; 30 wird aber der HERR etwas Neues schaffen, dass die Erde ihren Mund auftut und sie verschlingt mit allem, was sie haben, dass sie lebendig hinunter in das Totenreich fahren, so werdet ihr erkennen, dass diese Leute den HERRN gelästert haben. 31 Und als er alle diese Worte beendet hatte, zerriss die Erde unter ihnen (5Mo 11,6) 32 und tat ihren Mund auf und verschlang sie mit ihren Sippen, mit allen Menschen, die zu Korach gehörten, und mit all ihrer Habe. 33 Und sie fuhren lebendig in das Totenreich hinunter mit allem, was sie hatten, und die Erde deckte sie zu und sie kamen um, mitten aus der Gemeinde heraus. 34 Und ganz Israel, das um sie her war, floh vor ihrem Geschrei; denn sie dachten: Dass uns die Erde nicht auch verschlinge! 35 Und Feuer fuhr aus von dem HERRN und fraß auch die zweihundertfünfzig Männer, die das Räucherwerk opferten. 1 وَشَرَعَ قُورَحُ بْنُ يِصْهَارَ بْنِ قَهَاتَ بْنِ لاوِي، وَدَاثَانُ وَأَبِيرَامُ ابْنَا أَلِيَآبَ، وَأُونُ بْنُ فَالَتَ مِنْ سِبْطِ رَأُوبَيْنَ، 2 يَتَآمَرُونَ عَلَى مُوسَى، مَعَ مِئَتَيْنِ وَخَمْسِينَ مِنْ رُؤَسَاءِ جَمَاعَةِ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ، ذَوِي الْمَكَانَةِ مِمَّنْ تَمَّ تَعْيِينُهُمْ فِي الْمَجْلِسِ. 3 هَؤُلاءِ تَأَلَّبُوا عَلَى مُوسَى وَهَرُونَ وَقَالُوا: «حَسْبُكُمَا! إِنَّ كُلَّ الْجَمَاعَةِ بِأَسْرِهَا مُقَدَّسَةٌ، وَفِي وَسَطِهَا الرَّبُّ. فَمَا بَالُكُمَا تَتَرَفَّعَانِ عَلَى جَمَاعَةِ الرَّبِّ؟» 4 فَلَمَّا سَمِعَ مُوسَى هَذَا، أَكَبَّ عَلَى وَجْهِهِ، 5 ثُمَّ قَالَ لِقُورَحَ وَسَائِرِ جَمَاعَتِهِ: «غَداً يُعْلِنُ الرَّبُّ مَنْ هُوَ لَهُ، وَمَنْ هُوَ الْمُقَدَّسُ فَيُقَرِّبُهُ مِنْهُ. 6 وَلَكِنْ يَا قُورَحُ افْعَلْ هَذَا أَنْتَ وَجَمَاعَتُكَ: خُذُوا لَكُمْ مَجَامِرَ، 7 وَضَعُوا فِيهَا نَاراً وَبَخُوراً أَمَامَ الرَّبِّ غَداً. وَالرَّجُلُ الَّذِي يَخْتَارُهُ الرَّبُّ يَكُونُ هُوَ الْمُقَدَّسُ، فَحَسْبُكُمْ أَيُّهَا اللّاوِيُّونَ!» 8 وَأَضَافَ مُوسَى قَائِلاً لِقُورَحَ: «اسْتَمِعُوا يَا بَنِي لاوِي، 9 أَلَمْ يَكْفِكُمْ أَنَّ إِلَهَ إِسْرَائِيلَ قَدْ أَفْرَزَكُمْ مِنْ بَيْنِ الشَّعْبِ لِيُقَرِّبَكُمْ إِلَيْهِ لِكَيْ تَخْدِمُوا مَسْكَنَ الرَّبِّ وَتَقِفُوا فِي حَضْرَةِ الشَّعْبِ كُلِّهِ لِخِدْمَتِهِ. 10 فَقَرَّبَكَ مَعَ بَقِيَّةِ إِخْوَتِكَ مِنْ بَنِي لاوِي، حَتَّى صِرْتُمْ تَطْمَعُونَ فِي الْكَهَنُوتِ. 11 إِذَنْ أَنْتَ وَكُلُّ جَمَاعَتِكَ قَدْ تَأَلَّبْتُمْ عَلَى الرَّبِّ، لأَنَّهُ مَنْ هُوَ هَرُونُ حَتَّى تَتَذَمَّرُوا عَلَيْهِ؟» 12 فَأَرْسَلَ مُوسَى يَسْتَدْعِي دَاثَانَ وَأَبِيرَامَ ابْنَيْ أَلِيآبَ، فَرَدَّا: «لَنْ نَحْضُرَ! 13 أَلَمْ يَكْفِكَ أَنَّكَ أَخْرَجْتَنَا مِنْ أَرْضٍ تُدِرُّ لَبَناً وَعَسَلاً لِتُهْلِكَنَا فِي الصَّحْرَاءِ، ثُمَّ تَتَرَأَّسُ عَلَيْنَا؟ 14 فَأَنْتَ لَمْ تَقُدْنَا إِلَى أَرْضٍ تَفِيضُ خَيْرَاتٍ، وَلا أَوْرَثْتَنَا حُقُولاً وَكُرُوماً. فَمَنْ تُحَاوِلُ أَنْ تَخْدَعَ؟ إِنَّنَا لَنْ نَحْضُرَ!» 15 فَاحْتَدَمَ غَيْظُ مُوسَى وَقَالَ لِلرَّبِّ: «لا تَقْبَلْ تَقْدِمَتَهُمَا، فَأَنَا لَمْ آخُذْ حَتَّى حِمَاراً وَاحِداً مِنْهُمَا، وَلَمْ أُسِئْ إِلَى أَحَدٍ مِنْهُمَا». 16 وَقَالَ مُوسَى لِقُورَحَ: «امْثُلْ أَنْتَ وَجَمَاعَتُكَ كُلُّهَا أَمَامَ الرَّبِّ غَداً، وَكَذَلِكَ يَحْضُرُ هَرُونُ أَيْضاً. 17 وَلْيَأْخُذْ كُلٌّ مِنْكُمْ مَجْمَرَتَهُ وَضَعُوا فِيهَا بَخُوراً، وَلْيُقَدِّمْ كُلُّ وَاحِدٍ مَجْمَرَتَهُ، فَتَكُونَ مِئَتَيْنِ وَخَمْسِينَ مَجْمَرَةً، وَكَذَلِكَ خُذْ أَنْتَ وَهَرُونُ، كُلُّ وَاحِدٍ مَجْمَرَتَهُ». 18 فَجَاءَ كُلُّ وَاحِدٍ بِمَجْمَرَتِهِ وَوَضَعُوا فِيهَا نَاراً وَبَخُوراً، وَمَثَلُوا عِنْدَ مَدْخَلِ خَيْمَةِ الاجْتِمَاعِ مَعَ مُوسَى وَهَرُونَ. 19 وَحَشَدَ قُورَحُ عَلَيْهِمَا كُلَّ الْجَمَاعَةِ الْمُتَآمِرَةِ عِنْدَ مَدْخَلِ خَيْمَةِ الاجْتِمَاعِ، فَتَرَاءَى آنَئِذٍ مَجْدُ الرَّبِّ لِلْجَمَاعَةِ كُلِّهَا. 20 وَقَالَ الرَّبُّ لِمُوسَى وَهَرُونَ: 21 «افْتَرِزَا مِنْ بَيْنِ هَذِهِ الْجَمَاعَةِ لأَنِّي سَأُفْنِيهِمْ فِي لَحْظَةٍ». 22 فَانْطَرَحَا عَلَى وَجْهَيْهِمَا وَابْتَهَلا قَائِلَيْنِ: «اللهُمَّ، يَا إِلَهَ أَرْوَاحِ جَمِيعِ الْبَشَرِ، أَتَسْخَطُ عَلَى الْجَمَاعَةِ كُلِّهَا مِنْ أَجْلِ خَطِيئَةِ رَجُلٍ وَاحِدٍ؟» 23 فَقَالَ الرَّبُّ لِمُوسَى: 24 «اطْلُبْ مِنَ الشَّعْبِ أَنْ يَبْتَعِدُوا مِنْ حَوَالَيْ خِيَامِ قُورَحَ وَدَاثَانَ وَأَبِيرَامَ». 25 فَذَهَبَ مُوسَى إِلَى دَاثَانَ وَأَبِيرَامَ، وَتَبِعَهُ شُيُوخُ إِسْرَائِيلَ، 26 وَقَالَ لِلْجَمَاعَةِ كُلِّهَا: «ابْتَعِدُوا عَنْ خِيَامِ هَؤُلاءِ الْقَوْمِ الأَشْرَارِ، وَلا تَلْمَسُوا شَيْئاً مِمَّا لَهُمْ لِئَلّا تَهْلِكُوا مِنَ جَرَّاءِ خَطَايَاهُمْ». 27 فَابْتَعَدُوا مِنْ حَوَالَيْ خِيَامِ قُورَحَ وَدَاثَانَ وَأَبِيرَامَ، وَخَرَجَ دَاثَانُ وَأَبِيرَامُ، وَوَقَفَا أَمَامَ خَيْمَتَيْهِمَا مَعَ زَوْجَاتِهِمَا وَأَوْلادِهِمَا صِغَاراً وَكِبَاراً. 28 فَقَالَ مُوسَى: «بِهَذَا تَعْرِفُونَ أَنَّ الرَّبَّ قَدْ أَرْسَلَنِي لأُجْرِيَ كُلَّ هَذِهِ الأَعْمَالِ، وَأَنَّهَا لَيْسَتْ صَادِرَةً عَنْ نَفْسِي: 29 إِنْ مَاتَ هَؤُلاءِ مَوْتاً طَبِيعِيًّا، أَوِ ابْتُلُوا بِمَا يُبْتَلَى بِهِ النَّاسُ عَادَةً، فَلا يَكُونُ الرَّبُّ قَدْ أَرْسَلَنِي. 30 وَلَكِنْ إِنْ أَجْرَى الرَّبُّ أَمْراً جَدِيداً، وَانْشَقَّتِ الأَرْضُ وَابْتَلَعَتْهُمْ مَعَ كُلِّ مَالَهُمْ، وَدُفِنُوا فِي بَاطِنِ الأَرْضِ أَحْيَاءَ، عِنْدَئِذٍ تُدْرِكُونَ أَنَّ هَؤُلاءِ الْقَوْمَ قَدِ ازْدَرَوْا بِالرَّبِّ». 31 وَحَالَمَا انْتَهَى مِنْ كَلامِهِ انْشَقَّتِ الأَرْضُ تَحْتَهُمْ، 32 وَفَتَحَتْ فَاهَا وَابْتَلَعَتْهُمْ مَعَ بُيُوتِهِمْ، كَمَا ابْتَلَعَتْ رِجَالَ قُورَحَ مَعَ كُلِّ مَا يَمْلِكُونَ. 33 فَاخْتَفَوْا هُمْ وَكُلُّ مَا يَمْلِكُونَ أَحْيَاءَ فِي بَاطِنِ الأَرْضِ الَّتِي انْطَبَقَتْ عَلَيْهِمْ، فَبَادُوا مِنْ بَيْنِ الْجَمَاعَةِ. 34 وَهَرَبَ الإِسْرَائِيلِيُّونَ الَّذِينَ حَوْلَهُمْ مِنْ صَوْتِ صَرَخَاتِهِمْ قَائِلِينَ: «لِئَلّا تَبْتَلِعَنَا الأَرْضُ». 35 وَانْدَلَعَتْ نَارٌ مِنْ عِنْدِ الرَّبِّ فَالْتَهَمَتِ الْمِئَتَيْنِ وَالْخَمْسِينَ رَجُلاً الَّذِينَ قَرَّبُوا الْبَخُورَ. 36 ثُمَّ قَالَ الرَّبُّ لِمُوسَى: 37 «اطْلُبْ مِنْ أَلِعَازَارَ بْنِ هَرُونَ الْكَاهِنِ أَنْ يَجْمَعَ الْمَجَامِرَ مِنَ الْحَرِيقِ، وَلْيَذْرِ مَا فِيهَا مِنْ جَمْرٍ فَإِنَّهَا قَدْ تَقَدَّسَتْ. 38 وَاطْرُقُوا مَجَامِرَ هَؤُلاءِ الَّذِينَ أَخْطَأُوا فِي حَقِّ نُفُوسِهِمْ صَفَائِحَ، لِتَكُونَ غِشَاءً لِلْمَذْبَحِ، لأَنَّهُمْ قَدَّمُوهَا فِي حَضْرَةِ الرَّبِّ فَتَقَدَّسَتْ، فَتَكُونُ عِبْرَةً لِبَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ». 39 فَجَمَعَ أَلِعَازَارُ الْكَاهِنُ مَجَامِرَ النُّحَاسِ الَّتِي قَرَّبَهَا الْمُحْتَرِقُونَ، فَطُرِقَتْ غِشَاءً لِلْمَذْبَحِ، 40 عِبْرَةً لِبَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ لِكَيْ لَا يَدْنُوَ أَحَدٌ مِنْ غَيْرِ نَسْلِ هَرُونَ لِيُبَخِّرَ فِي حَضْرَةِ الرَّبِّ، فَيُصِيبَهُ مَا أَصَابَ قُورَحَ وَجَمَاعَتَهُ، كَمَا كَلَّمَ الرَّبُّ مُوسَى. 41 وَفِي الْيَوْمِ الثَّانِي تَذَمَّرَ جَمِيعُ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ عَلَى مُوسَى وَهَرُونَ قَائِلِينَ: «لَقَدْ قَتَلْتُمَا شَعْبَ الرَّبِّ». 42 فَلَمَّا اجْتَمَعَتِ الْجَمَاعَةُ عَلَى مُوسَى وَهَرُونَ مَضَيَا إِلَى خَيْمَةِ الاجْتِمَاعِ، وَإذَا بِالسَّحَابَةِ قَدْ غَطَّتْهَا وَمَجْدُ الرَّبِّ قَدْ تَرَاءَى. 43 فَأَقْبَلَ مُوسَى وَهَرُونُ إِلَى أَمَامِ خَيْمَةِ الاجْتِمَاعِ. 44 فَقَالَ الرَّبُّ لِمُوسَى: 45 «اخْرُجَا مِنْ بَيْنِ هَذِهِ الْجَمَاعَةِ لأَنَّنِي سَأُفْنِيهِمْ فِي لَحْظَةٍ». فَخَرَّا عَلَى وَجْهَيْهِمَا 46 ثُمَّ قَالَ مُوسَى لِهَرُونَ: «خُذِ الْمَجْمَرَةَ وَضَعْ فِيهَا نَاراً مِنْ عَلَى الْمَذْبَحِ، وَأَيْضاً بَخُوراً، وَأَسْرِعْ إِلَى الْجَمَاعَةِ لِتُكَفِّرَ عَنْهُمْ، لأَنَّ الْغَضَبَ الْمُحْتَدِمَ قَدْ صَدَرَ عَنِ الرَّبِّ وَتَفَشَّى فِيهِمِ الْوَبَأُ». 47 فَنَفَّذَ هَرُونُ أَمْرَ مُوسَى، وَأَسْرَعَ إِلَى وَسَطِ الْجَمَاعَةِ، وَإذَا بِالْوَبَأِ قَدِ ابْتَدَأَ يَتَفَشَّى فِيهِمْ، فَوَضَعَ الْبَخُورَ وَكَفَّرَ عَنِ الشَّعْبِ. 48 وَوَقَفَ هَرُونُ بَيْنَ الْمَوْتَى وَالأَحْيَاءِ، فَتَوَقَّفَ الوَبَأُ. 49 فَكَانَ الَّذِينَ هَلَكُوا بِالْوَبَإِ أَرْبَعَةَ عَشَرَ أَلْفاً وَسَبْعَ مِئَةٍ، عَدَا الَّذِينَ مَاتُوا بِسَبَبِ قُورَحَ. 50 ثُمَّ رَجَعَ هَرُونُ إِلَى مُوسَى عِنْدَ مَدْخَلِ خَيْمَةِ الاجْتِمَاعِ وَقَدْ تَوَقَّفَ سَرَيَانُ الْوَبَإِ.

New International Version

Korah, Dathan and Abiram

1 Korah son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, and certain Reubenites – Dathan and Abiram, sons of Eliab, and On son of Peleth – became insolent^[1] 2 and rose up against Moses. With them were 250 Israelite men, well-known community leaders who had been appointed members of the council. 3 They came as a group to oppose Moses and Aaron and said to them, ‘You have gone too far! The whole community is holy, every one of them, and the Lord is with them. Why then do you set yourselves above the Lord’s assembly?’ 4 When Moses heard this, he fell face down. 5 Then he said to Korah and all his followers: ‘In the morning the Lord will show who belongs to him and who is holy, and he will make that person come near him. The man he chooses he will cause to come near him. 6 You, Korah, and all your followers are to do this: take censers 7 and tomorrow put burning coals and incense in them before the Lord. The man the Lord chooses will be the one who is holy. You Levites have gone too far!’ 8 Moses also said to Korah, ‘Now listen, you Levites! 9 Isn’t it enough for you that the God of Israel has separated you from the rest of the Israelite community and brought you near himself to do the work at the Lord’s tabernacle and to stand before the community and minister to them? 10 He has brought you and all your fellow Levites near himself, but now you are trying to get the priesthood too. 11 It is against the Lord that you and all your followers have banded together. Who is Aaron that you should grumble against him?’ 12 Then Moses summoned Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab. But they said, ‘We will not come! 13 Isn’t it enough that you have brought us up out of a land flowing with milk and honey to kill us in the wilderness? And now you also want to lord it over us! 14 Moreover, you haven’t brought us into a land flowing with milk and honey or given us an inheritance of fields and vineyards. Do you want to treat these men like slaves^[2]? No, we will not come!’ 15 Then Moses became very angry and said to the Lord, ‘Do not accept their offering. I have not taken so much as a donkey from them, nor have I wronged any of them.’ 16 Moses said to Korah, ‘You and all your followers are to appear before the Lord tomorrow – you and they and Aaron. 17 Each man is to take his censer and put incense in it – 250 censers in all – and present it before the Lord. You and Aaron are to present your censers also.’ 18 So each of them took his censer, put burning coals and incense in it, and stood with Moses and Aaron at the entrance to the tent of meeting. 19 When Korah had gathered all his followers in opposition to them at the entrance to the tent of meeting, the glory of the Lord appeared to the entire assembly. 20 The Lord said to Moses and Aaron, 21 ‘Separate yourselves from this assembly so that I can put an end to them at once.’ 22 But Moses and Aaron fell face down and cried out, ‘O God, the God who gives breath to all living things, will you be angry with the entire assembly when only one man sins?’ 23 Then the Lord said to Moses, 24 ‘Say to the assembly, “Move away from the tents of Korah, Dathan and Abiram.” ’ 25 Moses got up and went to Dathan and Abiram, and the elders of Israel followed him. 26 He warned the assembly, ‘Move back from the tents of these wicked men! Do not touch anything belonging to them, or you will be swept away because of all their sins.’ 27 So they moved away from the tents of Korah, Dathan and Abiram. Dathan and Abiram had come out and were standing with their wives, children and little ones at the entrances to their tents. 28 Then Moses said, ‘This is how you will know that the Lord has sent me to do all these things and that it was not my idea: 29 if these men die a natural death and suffer the fate of all mankind, then the Lord has not sent me. 30 But if the Lord brings about something totally new, and the earth opens its mouth and swallows them, with everything that belongs to them, and they go down alive into the realm of the dead, then you will know that these men have treated the Lord with contempt.’ 31 As soon as he finished saying all this, the ground under them split apart 32 and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them and their households, and all those associated with Korah, together with their possessions. 33 They went down alive into the realm of the dead, with everything they owned; the earth closed over them, and they perished and were gone from the community. 34 At their cries, all the Israelites around them fled, shouting, ‘The earth is going to swallow us too!’ 35 And fire came out from the Lord and consumed the 250 men who were offering the incense. 36 The Lord said to Moses, 37 ‘Tell Eleazar son of Aaron, the priest, to remove the censers from the charred remains and scatter the coals some distance away, for the censers are holy – 38 the censers of the men who sinned at the cost of their lives. Hammer the censers into sheets to overlay the altar, for they were presented before the Lord and have become holy. Let them be a sign to the Israelites.’ 39 So Eleazar the priest collected the bronze censers brought by those who had been burned to death, and he had them hammered out to overlay the altar, 40 as the Lord directed him through Moses. This was to remind the Israelites that no-one except a descendant of Aaron should come to burn incense before the Lord, or he would become like Korah and his followers. 41 The next day the whole Israelite community grumbled against Moses and Aaron. ‘You have killed the Lord’s people,’ they said. 42 But when the assembly gathered in opposition to Moses and Aaron and turned towards the tent of meeting, suddenly the cloud covered it and the glory of the Lord appeared. 43 Then Moses and Aaron went to the front of the tent of meeting, 44 and the Lord said to Moses, 45 ‘Get away from this assembly so that I can put an end to them at once.’ And they fell face down. 46 Then Moses said to Aaron, ‘Take your censer and put incense in it, along with burning coals from the altar, and hurry to the assembly to make atonement for them. Wrath has come out from the Lord; the plague has started.’ 47 So Aaron did as Moses said, and ran into the midst of the assembly. The plague had already started among the people, but Aaron offered the incense and made atonement for them. 48 He stood between the living and the dead, and the plague stopped. 49 But 14,700 people died from the plague, in addition to those who had died because of Korah. 50 Then Aaron returned to Moses at the entrance to the tent of meeting, for the plague had stopped.^[3]

41 На другой день всё общество исраильтян роптало на Мусу и Харуна. «Вы погубили народ Вечного», – говорили они. 42 Но когда, собравшись против Мусы и Харуна, народ повернулся к шатру встречи, его покрыло облако и явилась слава Вечного. 43 Муса и Харун подошли к шатру встречи, 44 и Вечный сказал Мусе: 45 – Оставь этот народ, чтобы Я уничтожил их в одно мгновение. Они пали лицом на землю. 46 Муса сказал Харуну: – Возьми сосуд, положи в него горящие угли с жертвенника и благовония и поспеши к народу, чтобы очистить его. Вечный разгневался; начался мор. 47 Харун сделал, как сказал ему Муса, и поспешил к народу. Среди них уже начался мор, но Харун возжёг благовония и очистил народ. 48 Он встал между мёртвыми и живыми, и мор прекратился. 49 Но четырнадцать тысяч семьсот человек умерло от мора, не считая тех, кто умер из-за Кораха. 50 Харун вернулся к Мусе к входу в шатёр встречи, потому что мор прекратился.
