1 Als aber Sanballat und Tobija und die Araber und Ammoniter und Aschdoditer hörten, dass die Wunden der Mauern Jerusalems heilten, weil die Lücken angefangen hatten sich zu schließen, wurden sie sehr zornig (Jer 30,17) 2 und verschworen sich alle miteinander hinzuziehen, um gegen Jerusalem zu kämpfen und dort Verwirrung zu stiften. 3 Wir aber beteten zu unserm Gott und stellten gegen sie Tag und Nacht Wachen auf zum Schutz vor ihnen. 4 Und das Volk von Juda sprach: Die Kraft der Träger ist zu schwach, und da ist zu viel Schutt; wir schaffen es nicht, an der Mauer zu bauen. 5 Unsere Widersacher aber dachten: Sie sollen’s nicht erfahren noch sehen, bis wir mitten unter sie kommen und sie töten und dem Werk ein Ende machen. 6 Als nun die Juden, die nahe bei ihnen wohnten, kamen und uns wohl zehnmal sagten von all den Plänen, die sie gegen uns ersannen, 7 da stellte ich unten an die Orte hinter der Mauer an den offenen Stellen das Volk auf nach seinen Geschlechtern mit Schwertern, Spießen und Bogen. 8 Und als ich sie besah, machte ich mich auf und sprach zu den Vornehmen und Vorstehern und dem übrigen Volk: Fürchtet euch nicht vor ihnen; gedenkt an den Herrn, der groß und schrecklich ist, und streitet für eure Brüder, Söhne, Töchter, Frauen und Häuser! (Neh 1,5) 9 Als aber unsere Feinde hörten, dass es uns kundgeworden war und Gott ihren Rat zunichtegemacht hatte, kehrten wir alle zur Mauer zurück, ein jeder zu seiner Arbeit. 10 Und es geschah hinfort, dass die Hälfte meiner Leute am Bau arbeitete, die andere Hälfte aber hielt Spieße, Schilde, Bogen und Panzer bereit, und die Obersten standen hinter dem ganzen Haus Juda, 11 das an der Mauer baute. Und die da Lasten trugen, arbeiteten so: Mit der einen Hand taten sie die Arbeit und mit der andern hielten sie die Waffe. 12 Und ein jeder, der baute, hatte sein Schwert um die Lenden gegürtet und baute so; und der die Posaune zu blasen hatte, stand neben mir. 13 Und ich sprach zu den Vornehmen und Vorstehern und zum übrigen Volk: Das Werk ist groß und weit, und wir sind auf der Mauer weit verstreut und fern voneinander. 14 Wo ihr nun die Posaune tönen hört, dort sammelt euch zu uns. Unser Gott wird für uns streiten. (2Mo 14,14) 15 So arbeiteten wir am Bau, während die Hälfte die Spieße bereithielt, vom Aufgang der Morgenröte, bis die Sterne hervorkamen. 16 Auch sprach ich zu der Zeit zum Volk: Ein jeder bleibe mit seinen Leuten über Nacht in Jerusalem, dass sie uns des Nachts als Wache dienen und am Tage für die Arbeit. 17 Aber ich und meine Brüder und meine Leute und die Wache, die mir folgte, wir zogen unsere Kleider nicht aus; ein jeder hatte seinen Spieß zur Rechten.

1 وَعِنْدَمَا عَلِمَ سَنْبَلَّطُ أَنَّنَا قَائِمُونَ بِبِنَاءِ السُّورِ امْتَلأَ غَضَباً وَغَيْظاً، وَأَخَذَ يَسْخَرُ بِالْيَهُودِ. 2 وَتَسَاءَلَ أَمَامَ أَقْرِبَائِهِ وَجَيْشِ السَّامِرَةِ: «أَيُّ شَيْءٍ يَفْعَلُهُ هَؤُلاءِ الْيَهُودُ الضُّعَفَاءُ؟ هَلْ فِي وُسْعِهِمْ أَنْ يُعِيدُوا بِنَاءَ السُّورِ؟ هَلْ يَعُودُونَ لِتَقْرِيبِ الذَّبَائِحِ؟ هَلْ يُكْمِلُونَ الْبِنَاءَ فِي يَوْمٍ وَاحِدٍ؟ هَلْ يُحْيُونَ الْحِجَارَةَ مِنْ أَكْوَامِ الرُّكَامِ وَهِيَ مُحْتَرِقَةٌ؟» 3 وَكَانَ طُوبِيَّا الْعَمُّونِيُّ وَاقِفاً إِلَى جِوَارِهِ، فَقَالَ: «إِنَّ مَا يَبْنُونَهُ إِذَا صَعِدَ عَلَيْهِ ثَعْلَبٌ فَإِنَّهُ يَهْدِمُ حِجَارَةَ سُورِهِمْ». 4 فَصَلَّيْتُ إِلَى الرَّبِّ: «اسْتَمِعْ يَا إِلَهَنَا، لأَنَّنَا قَدْ أَصْبَحْنَا مَثَارَ احْتِقَارٍ، وَاجْعَلْ تَعْيِيرَهُمْ يَرْتَدُّ عَلَى رُؤُوسِهِمْ وَلْيَصِيرُوا غَنِيمَةً فِي أَرْضِ السَّبْيِ. 5 وَلا تَسْتُرْ آثَامَهُمْ، وَلا تَمْحُ خَطِيئَتَهُمْ مِنْ أَمَامِكَ، لأَنَّهُمْ أَثَارُوا غَضَبَكَ أَمَامَ الْقَائِمِينَ بِالْبِنَاءِ». 6 وَهَكَذَا قُمْنَا بِإِعَادَةِ بِنَاءِ كُلِّ السُّورِ حَتَّى نِصْفِ ارْتِفَاعِهِ. وَكَانَ الشَّعْبُ يَعْمَلُ بِقَلْبٍ وَاحِدٍ. 7 وَلَمَّا سَمِعَ سَنْبَلَّطُ وَطُوبِيَّا وَالْعَرَبُ وَالْعَمُّونِيُّونَ وَالأَشْدُودِيُّونَ أَنَّ أَسْوَارَ أُورُشَلِيمَ قَدْ رُمِّمَتْ، وَالثُّغْرَاتِ قَدْ سُدَّتْ، احْتَدَمَ غَضَبُهُمْ، 8 وَتَآمَرُوا جَمِيعُهُمْ عَلَى مُهَاجَمَةِ أُورُشَلِيمَ وَمُحَارَبَتِهَا لإِيقَاعِ الضَّرَرِ بِها. 9 فَتَضَرَّعْنَا إِلَى إِلَهِنَا وَأَقَمْنَا حُرَّاساً ضِدَّهُمْ نَهَاراً وَلَيْلاً حَذَراً مِنْهُمْ. 10 وَقَالَ أَبْنَاءُ يَهُوذَا: «لَقَدْ وَهَنَتْ قُوَى الْحَمَّالِينَ، وَأَكْوَامُ الأَنْقَاضِ كَثِيرَةٌ، وَنَحْنُ لَا يُمْكِنُنَا بِنَاءَ السُّورِ. 11 وَقَدْ قَالَ أَعْدَاؤُنَا: إِنَّنَا سَنُفَاجِئُهُمْ فَلا يَدْرُونَ وَلا يُبْصِرُونَ إِلّا وَنَحْنُ قَدْ أَصْبَحْنَا فِي وَسَطِهِمْ، فَنَقْتُلُهُمْ وَنُعَطِّلُ الْعَمَلَ! 12 وَعِنْدَمَا جَاءَ الْيَهُودُ السَّاكِنُونَ إِلَى جُوَارِهِمْ حَذَّرُونَا عَشْرَ مَرَّاتٍ قَائِلِينَ: إِنَّهُمْ سَيَزْحَفُونَ عَلَيْكُمْ مِنْ جَمِيعِ الأَمَاكِنِ الَّتِي يُقِيمُونَ فِيهَا». 13 لِذَلِكَ أَقَمْتُ حُرَّاساً مِنَ الشَّعْبِ حَسَبَ عَشَائِرِهِمْ، مُتَسَلِّحِينَ بِالسُّيُوفِ وَالرِّمَاحِ وَالْقِسِيِّ فِي الْمُنْخَفَضَاتِ وَرَاءَ السُّورِ وَعَلَى الْمُرْتَفَعَاتِ. 14 وَتَأَمَّلْتُ حَوْلِي، ثُمَّ وَقَفْتُ وَقُلْتُ لِلْعُظَمَاءِ وَالوُلاةِ وَبَقِيَّةِ الشَّعْبِ: «لا تَخَافُوهُمْ، بَلْ تَذَكَّرُوا السَّيِّدَ الْعَظِيمَ الْمَرْهُوبَ، وَحَارِبُوا مِنْ أَجْلِ إِخْوَتِكُمْ وَأَبْنَائِكُمْ وَبَنَاتِكُمْ وَنِسَائِكُمْ وَبُيُوتِكُمْ». 15 وَعِنْدَمَا أَدْرَكَ أَعْدَاؤُنَا أَنَّنَا كَشَفْنَا مُؤَامَرَاتِهِمْ، وَأَحْبَطَ اللهُ تَدْبِيرَاتِهِمْ، رَجَعَ كُلُّ وَاحِدٍ مِنَّا إِلَى عَمَلِهِ فِي السُّورِ. 16 وَمُنْذُ ذَلِكَ الْحِينِ أَخَذَ نِصْفُ رِجَالِي يَعْمَلُونَ، وَالنِّصْفُ الآخَرُ يُمْسِكُونَ بِالرِّمَاحِ وَالأَتْرَاسِ وَالْقِسِيِّ وَالدُّرُوعِ. وَآزَرَ الرُّؤَسَاءُ أَبْنَاءَ يَهُوذَا 17 الَّذِينَ كَانُوا يَبْنُونَ السُّورَ. أَمَّا حَامِلُو الأَحْمَالِ فَكَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ بِالْيَدِ الْوَاحِدَةِ وَيُمْسِكُونَ السِّلاحَ بِالْيَدِ الأُخْرَى. 18 وَتَقَلَّدَ كُلُّ بَانٍ سَيْفاً عَلَى جَنْبِهِ، بَيْنَمَا وَقَفَ نَافِخُ الْبُوقِ إِلَى جِوَارِي. 19 فَقُلْتُ لِلأَشْرَافِ وَالْوُلاةِ وَلِبَقِيَّةِ الشَّعْبِ: «الْعَمَلُ كَثِيرٌ مُمْتَدٌّ فِي رُقْعَةٍ وَاسِعَةٍ فِي الأَرْضِ، وَنَحْنُ مُتَفَرِّقُونَ عَلَى السُّورِ وَمُتَبَاعِدُونَ عَنْ بَعْضِنَا. 20 فَعَلَيْكُمْ أَنْ تَتَجَمَّعُوا فِي الْمَكَانِ الَّذِي يُدَوِّي مِنْهُ نَفِيرُ الْبُوقِ، وَلْيُحَارِبْ إِلَهُنَا عَنَّا». 21 وَهَكَذَا كُنَّا نَحْنُ نَقُومُ بِالْعَمَلِ، بَيْنَمَا نِصْفُنَا الآخَرُ يَتَقَلَّدُ الرِّمَاحَ مِنْ طُلُوعِ الْفَجْرِ حَتَّى بُزُوغِ النُّجُومِ. 22 وَأَمَرْتُ الشَّعْبَ فِي ذَلِكَ الْوَقْتِ: «لِيَبِتْ كُلُّ وَاحِدٍ مَعَ خَادِمِهِ فِي أُورُشَلِيمَ، فَيَكُونُوا لَنَا حُرَّاساً فِي اللَّيْلِ وَعُمَّالاً فِي النَّهَارِ». 23 وَلَمْ أَخْلَعْ ثِيَابِي طَوَالَ تِلْكَ الْفَتْرَةِ، لَا أَنَا وَلا إِخْوَتِي وَلا خُدَّامِي وَلا الْحُرَّاسُ التَّابِعُونَ لِي، بِلْ ظَلَّ كُلُّ وَاحِدٍ مِنَّا مُتَأَهِّباً بِسِلاحِهِ حَتَّى عِنْدَ ذِهَابِهِ إِلَى الْمَاءِ.

Opposition to the rebuilding

1 ^[1] When Sanballat heard that we were rebuilding the wall, he became angry and was greatly incensed. He ridiculed the Jews, 2 and in the presence of his associates and the army of Samaria, he said, ‘What are those feeble Jews doing? Will they restore their wall? Will they offer sacrifices? Will they finish in a day? Can they bring the stones back to life from those heaps of rubble – burned as they are?’ 3 Tobiah the Ammonite, who was at his side, said, ‘What they are building – even a fox climbing up on it would break down their wall of stones!’ 4 Hear us, our God, for we are despised. Turn their insults back on their own heads. Give them over as plunder in a land of captivity. 5 Do not cover up their guilt or blot out their sins from your sight, for they have thrown insults in the face of^[2] the builders. 6 So we rebuilt the wall till all of it reached half its height, for the people worked with all their heart. 7 But when Sanballat, Tobiah, the Arabs, the Ammonites and the people of Ashdod heard that the repairs to Jerusalem’s walls had gone ahead and that the gaps were being closed, they were very angry. 8 They all plotted together to come and fight against Jerusalem and stir up trouble against it. 9 But we prayed to our God and posted a guard day and night to meet this threat. 10 Meanwhile, the people in Judah said, ‘The strength of the labourers is giving out, and there is so much rubble that we cannot rebuild the wall.’ 11 Also our enemies said, ‘Before they know it or see us, we will be right there among them and will kill them and put an end to the work.’ 12 Then the Jews who lived near them came and told us ten times over, ‘Wherever you turn, they will attack us.’ 13 Therefore I stationed some of the people behind the lowest points of the wall at the exposed places, posting them by families, with their swords, spears and bows. 14 After I looked things over, I stood up and said to the nobles, the officials and the rest of the people, ‘Don’t be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your families, your sons and your daughters, your wives and your homes.’ 15 When our enemies heard that we were aware of their plot and that God had frustrated it, we all returned to the wall, each to our work. 16 From that day on, half of my men did the work, while the other half were equipped with spears, shields, bows and armour. The officers posted themselves behind all the people of Judah 17 who were building the wall. Those who carried materials did their work with one hand and held a weapon in the other, 18 and each of the builders wore his sword at his side as he worked. But the man who sounded the trumpet stayed with me. 19 Then I said to the nobles, the officials and the rest of the people, ‘The work is extensive and spread out, and we are widely separated from each other along the wall. 20 Wherever you hear the sound of the trumpet, join us there. Our God will fight for us!’ 21 So we continued the work with half the men holding spears, from the first light of dawn till the stars came out. 22 At that time I also said to the people, ‘Let every man and his helper stay inside Jerusalem at night, so that they can serve us as guards by night and as workers by day.’ 23 Neither I nor my brothers nor my men nor the guards with me took off our clothes; each had his weapon, even when he went for water.^[3]

Он издевался над иудеями 2 и перед своими союзниками и самарийским войском говорил: – Что делают эти жалкие иудеи? Неужели они восстановят свою стену? Неужели они станут приносить жертвы? Неужели они когда-нибудь закончат строительство? Неужто они оживят камни, притом обожжённые, из этих груд праха? 3 Аммонитянин Товия, стоящий рядом с ним, сказал: – Да что они там строят, если даже лисица, взобравшись на эту каменную стену, обрушит её?! 4 Услышь нас, Бог наш, потому что мы в презрении. Обрати их оскорбления на их же головы. Отдай их как добычу в землю плена. 5 Не покрывай их вины и грехов их не удаляй от Своих глаз, потому что они оскорбляли строителей. 6 И мы строили стену, и она достигла половины своей высоты, потому что народ работал от всего сердца. 7 Но когда Санбаллат, Товия, арабы с аммонитянами и жители города Ашдода услышали о том, что восстановление иерусалимских стен продвигается и проломы заделываются, они очень разозлились. 8 Все вместе они сговорились пойти на Иерусалим войной и устроить в нём беспорядки. 9 Но мы молились нашему Богу и выставляли против них стражу днём и ночью, чтобы отвратить эту угрозу. 10 А тем временем народ иудейский говорил: – Силы носильщиков на исходе, а здесь так много мусора, что мы не можем отстраивать стену. 11 А наши враги говорили: – Прежде чем они узнают о том, что происходит, или увидят нас, мы окажемся прямо среди них, перебьём их и остановим работу. 12 Иудеи, которые жили рядом с ними, приходили и раз десять говорили нам: – Со всех сторон они пойдут на нас. 13 Тогда я разместил народ за самыми низкими участками стены на открытых местах, поставив их по семьям, с мечами, копьями и луками. 14 Осмотрев всё, я встал и сказал знати, начальникам и остальному народу: – Не бойтесь их. Помните Владыку, Который велик и грозен, и сражайтесь за своих братьев, сыновей, дочерей, жён и дома. 15 Когда наши враги услышали, что мы знаем об их сговоре и о том, что Всевышний расстроил их планы, мы все вернулись к стене, каждый – к своей работе. 16 С того дня и впредь половина моих слуг трудилась на постройке, а другая половина держала копья, щиты, луки и латы. Вожди находились позади всего народа иудейского, 17 который строил стену. Носильщики тяжестей делали свою работу одной рукой, а в другой держали оружие, 18 и каждый из строителей во время работы был препоясан мечом. А трубач находился рядом со мной. 19 И я сказал знати, начальникам и остальному народу: – Работа велика и обширна, и мы разбросаны по стене далеко друг от друга. 20 Где бы вы ни услышали звук рога, бегите к нам туда, откуда доносится звук. Наш Бог будет сражаться за нас! 21 И мы продолжали работу, и половина людей стояли с копьями от ранней зари до появления звёзд. 22 В то время я ещё сказал народу: – Пусть каждый человек и его помощник ночуют в Иерусалиме, чтобы они могли сторожить ночью и работать днём. 23 Ни я, ни мои братья, ни мои слуги, ни стражники, которые меня сопровождали, не снимали одежд; каждый держал своё оружие в руке, даже когда ходил за водой.

1 参巴拉听见我们修造城墙就发怒，大大恼恨，嗤笑犹大人， 2 对他弟兄和撒玛利亚的军兵说：这些软弱的犹大人做甚麽呢？要保护自己麽？要献祭麽？要一日成功麽？要从土堆里拿出火烧的石头再立墙麽？ 3 亚扪人多比雅站在旁边，说：他们所修造的石墙，就是狐狸上去也必 ? 倒。 4 我们的　神啊，求你垂听，因为我们被藐视。求你使他们的毁谤归於他们的头上，使他们在掳到之地作为掠物。 5 不要遮掩他们的罪孽，不要使他们的罪恶从你面前涂抹，因为他们在修造的人眼前惹动你的怒气。 6 这样，我们修造城墙，城墙就都连络，高至一半，因为百姓专心做工。 7 参巴拉、多比雅、亚拉伯人、亚扪人、亚实突人听见修造耶路撒冷城墙，着手进行堵塞破裂的地方，就甚发怒。 8 大家同谋要来攻击耶路撒冷，使城内扰乱。 9 然而，我们祷告我们的　神，又因他们的缘故，就派人看守，昼夜防备。 10 犹大人说：灰土尚多，扛抬的人力气已经衰败，所以我们不能建造城墙。 11 我们的敌人且说：趁他们不知不见，我们进入他们中间，杀他们，使工作止住。 12 那靠近敌人居住的犹大人十次从各处来见我们，说：你们必要回到我们那里。 13 所以我使百姓各按宗族拿刀、拿枪、拿弓站在城墙後边低洼的空处。 14 我察看了，就起来对贵胄、官长，和其馀的人说：不要怕他们！当记念主是大而可畏的。你们要为弟兄、儿女、妻子、家产争战。 15 仇敌听见我们知道他们的心意，见　神也破坏他们的计谋，就不来了。我们都回到城墙那里，各做各的工。 16 从那日起，我的仆人一半做工，一半拿枪、拿盾牌、拿弓、穿（或译：拿）铠甲，官长都站在犹大众人的後边。 17 修造城墙的，扛抬材料的，都一手做工一手拿兵器。 18 修造的人都腰间佩刀修造，吹角的人在我旁边。 19 我对贵胄、官长，和其馀的人说：这工程浩大，我们在城墙上相离甚远； 20 你们听见角声在哪里，就聚集到我们那里去。我们的　神必为我们争战。 21 於是，我们做工，一半拿兵器，从天亮直到星宿出现的时候。 22 那时，我又对百姓说：各人和他的仆人当在耶路撒冷住宿，好在夜间保守我们，白昼做工。 23 这样，我和弟兄仆人，并跟从我的护兵都不脱衣服，出去打水也带兵器。
