1Jakob hob seine Augen auf und sah seinen Bruder Esau kommen mit vierhundert Mann. Und er verteilte seine Kinder auf Lea und auf Rahel und auf die beiden Mägde (1Mo 32,7)2und stellte die Mägde mit ihren Kindern vornean und Lea mit ihren Kindern dahinter und Rahel mit Josef zuletzt.3Und er ging vor ihnen her und neigte sich siebenmal zur Erde, bis er zu seinem Bruder kam.4Esau aber lief ihm entgegen und herzte ihn und fiel ihm um den Hals und küsste ihn, und sie weinten.5Und Esau hob seine Augen auf und sah die Frauen mit den Kindern und sprach: Wer sind diese bei dir? Er antwortete: Es sind die Kinder, die Gott deinem Knecht beschert hat. (Ps 127,3)6Und die Mägde traten herzu mit ihren Kindern und neigten sich vor ihm.7Lea trat auch herzu mit ihren Kindern, und sie neigten sich vor ihm. Danach traten Josef und Rahel herzu, und sie neigten sich auch vor ihm.8Und Esau sprach: Was willst du mit dem ganzen Lager, auf das ich gestoßen bin? Er antwortete: Dass ich Gnade fände vor meinem Herrn. (1Mo 32,14)9Esau sprach: Ich habe genug, mein Bruder; behalte, was du hast.10Jakob antwortete: Ach nein! Hab ich Gnade gefunden vor dir, so nimm mein Geschenk von meiner Hand; denn ich sah dein Angesicht, als sähe ich Gottes Angesicht, und du hast mich freundlich angesehen. (1Mo 32,31)11Nimm doch meine Segensgabe an, die dir gebracht wurde; denn Gott hat sie mir beschert, und ich habe von allem genug. So nötigte er ihn, dass er sie nahm.12Und Esau sprach: Lass uns aufbrechen und fortziehen; ich will mit dir ziehen.13Er aber sprach zu ihm: Mein Herr weiß, dass ich zarte Kinder bei mir habe, dazu säugende Schafe und Kühe; wenn sie auch nur einen Tag übertrieben würden, würde mir die ganze Herde sterben.14Mein Herr ziehe vor seinem Knechte her. Ich will gemächlich hintennach treiben, wie das Vieh und die Kinder gehen können, bis ich komme zu meinem Herrn nach Seïr.15Esau sprach: So will ich doch bei dir lassen etliche von meinen Leuten. Er antwortete: Ist das denn nötig? Lass mich nur Gnade vor meinem Herrn finden.16So zog Esau an jenem Tage wiederum seines Weges nach Seïr.
Jakob siedelt sich bei Sichem an
17Und Jakob zog nach Sukkot und baute sich ein Haus und machte seinem Vieh Hütten; daher heißt die Stätte Sukkot[1].18Danach kam Jakob wohlbehalten zu der Stadt Sichem, die im Lande Kanaan liegt, nachdem er aus Paddan-Aram gekommen war, und lagerte vor der Stadt19und kaufte das Feldstück, wo er sein Zelt aufgeschlagen hatte, von den Söhnen Hamors, des Vaters Sichems, um hundert Goldstücke (Jos 24,32)20und errichtete dort einen Altar und nannte ihn »El, der Gott Israels«. (1Mo 12,7)
1And Jacob lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, Esau was coming, and four hundred men with him. So he divided the children among Leah and Rachel and the two female servants. (1Mo 32,6)2And he put the servants with their children in front, then Leah with her children, and Rachel and Joseph last of all.3He himself went on before them, bowing himself to the ground seven times, until he came near to his brother. And last Joseph and Rachel drew near, and they bowed down.8Esau said, “What do you mean by all this company[1] that I met?” Jacob answered, “To find favor in the sight of my lord.” (1Mo 32,5; 1Mo 32,16; 1Mo 33,15)9But Esau said, “I have enough, my brother; keep what you have for yourself.”10Jacob said, “No, please, if I have found favor in your sight, then accept my present from my hand. For I have seen your face, which is like seeing the face of God, and you have accepted me. (1Mo 18,1; 1Mo 19,1)11Please accept my blessing that is brought to you, because God has dealt graciously with me, and because I have enough.” Thus he urged him, and he took it. (2Sam 13,25; 2Sam 13,27; 2Kön 5,15; 2Kön 5,23)12Then Esau said, “Let us journey on our way, and I will go ahead of[2] you.”13But Jacob said to him, “My lord knows that the children are frail, and that the nursing flocks and herds are a care to me. If they are driven hard for one day, all the flocks will die.14Let my lord pass on ahead of his servant, and I will lead on slowly, at the pace of the livestock that are ahead of me and at the pace of the children, until I come to my lord in Seir.” (1Mo 32,3)15So Esau said, “Let me leave with you some of the people who are with me.” But he said, “What need is there? Let me find favor in the sight of my lord.” (1Mo 33,8; 1Mo 34,11; 1Mo 47,25; Rut 2,13)16So Esau returned that day on his way to Seir. (1Mo 32,3)17But Jacob journeyed to Succoth, and built himself a house and made booths for his livestock. Therefore the name of the place is called Succoth.[3] (Jos 13,27; Ri 8,5; Ps 60,6)18And Jacob came safely[4] to the city of Shechem, which is in the land of Canaan, on his way from Paddan-aram, and he camped before the city. (Jos 24,1; Ri 9,1; Ps 60,6; Apg 7,16)19And from the sons of Hamor, Shechem’s father, he bought for a hundred pieces of money[5] the piece of land on which he had pitched his tent. (Jos 24,32; Joh 4,5; Apg 7,16)20There he erected an altar and called it El-Elohe-Israel.[6]
