Speisung mit Wachteln und Manna

1 Von Elim brachen sie auf, und die ganze Gemeinde der Israeliten kam in die Wüste Sin, die zwischen Elim und Sinai liegt, am fünfzehnten Tage des zweiten Monats, nachdem sie von Ägypten ausgezogen waren. 2 Und es murrte die ganze Gemeinde der Israeliten wider Mose und Aaron in der Wüste. (2Mo 17,2) 3 Und die Israeliten sprachen: Wollte Gott, wir wären in Ägypten gestorben durch des HERRN Hand, als wir bei den Fleischtöpfen saßen und hatten Brot die Fülle zu essen. Denn ihr habt uns dazu herausgeführt in diese Wüste, dass ihr diese ganze Gemeinde an Hunger sterben lasst. (2Mo 14,11) 4 Da sprach der HERR zu Mose: Siehe, ich will euch Brot vom Himmel regnen lassen, und das Volk soll hinausgehen und täglich sammeln, was es für den Tag bedarf, dass ich’s prüfe, ob es in meinem Gesetz wandle oder nicht. (1Mo 22,1; 2Mo 15,1; 2Mo 15,25) 5 Am sechsten Tage aber wird’s geschehen, wenn sie zubereiten, was sie einbringen, dass es doppelt so viel sein wird, wie sie sonst täglich sammeln. 6 Mose und Aaron sprachen zu ganz Israel: Am Abend sollt ihr innewerden, dass euch der HERR aus Ägyptenland geführt hat, 7 und am Morgen werdet ihr des HERRN Herrlichkeit sehen, denn er hat euer Murren wider den HERRN gehört. Was sind wir, dass ihr wider uns murrt? 8 Weiter sprach Mose: Der HERR wird euch am Abend Fleisch zu essen geben und am Morgen Brot die Fülle, weil der HERR euer Murren gehört hat, womit ihr wider ihn gemurrt habt. Denn was sind wir? Euer Murren ist nicht wider uns, sondern wider den HERRN. 9 Und Mose sprach zu Aaron: Sage der ganzen Gemeinde der Israeliten: Kommt herbei vor den HERRN, denn er hat euer Murren gehört. 10 Und als Aaron noch redete zu der ganzen Gemeinde der Israeliten, wandten sie sich zur Wüste hin, und siehe, die Herrlichkeit des HERRN erschien in der Wolke. 11 Und der HERR sprach zu Mose: 12 Ich habe das Murren der Israeliten gehört. Sage ihnen: Gegen Abend sollt ihr Fleisch zu essen haben und am Morgen von Brot satt werden und sollt innewerden, dass ich, der HERR, euer Gott bin. 13 Und am Abend kamen Wachteln herauf und bedeckten das Lager. Und am Morgen lag Tau rings um das Lager. (4Mo 11,31) 14 Und als der Tau weg war, siehe, da lag’s in der Wüste rund und klein wie Reif auf der Erde. 15 Und als es die Israeliten sahen, sprachen sie untereinander: Man hu?^[1] Denn sie wussten nicht, was es war. Mose aber sprach zu ihnen: Es ist das Brot, das euch der HERR zu essen gegeben hat. (2Mo 4,1; 5Mo 8,3; Joh 6,31; 1Kor 10,3)

16 Das ist’s aber, was der HERR geboten hat: Ein jeder sammle, so viel er zum Essen braucht, einen Krug voll für jeden nach der Zahl der Leute in seinem Zelte. 17 Und die Israeliten taten’s und sammelten, einer viel, der andere wenig. 18 Aber als man’s nachmaß, hatte der nicht darüber, der viel gesammelt hatte, und der nicht darunter, der wenig gesammelt hatte. Jeder hatte gesammelt, so viel er zum Essen brauchte. (2Kor 8,15) 19 Und Mose sprach zu ihnen: Niemand lasse etwas davon übrig bis zum nächsten Morgen. (2Mo 4,1; Mt 6,34; Lk 11,3) 20 Aber sie gehorchten Mose nicht. Und etliche ließen davon übrig bis zum nächsten Morgen; da wurde es voller Würmer und stinkend. Und Mose wurde zornig auf sie. 21 Sie sammelten aber alle Morgen, so viel ein jeder zum Essen brauchte. Wenn aber die Sonne heiß schien, zerschmolz es. 22 Und am sechsten Tage sammelten sie doppelt so viel Brot, je zwei Krüge voll für einen. Und alle Vorsteher der Gemeinde kamen hin und verkündeten’s Mose. 23 Und er sprach zu ihnen: Das ist’s, was der HERR gesagt hat: Morgen ist Ruhetag, heiliger Sabbat für den HERRN. Was ihr backen wollt, das backt, und was ihr kochen wollt, das kocht; was aber übrig ist, das legt beiseite, dass es aufgehoben werde bis zum nächsten Morgen. (1Mo 2,2) 24 Und sie legten’s beiseite bis zum nächsten Morgen, wie Mose geboten hatte. Da wurde es nicht stinkend und war auch kein Wurm darin. 25 Da sprach Mose: Esst dies heute, denn heute ist der Sabbat des HERRN; ihr werdet heute nichts finden auf dem Felde. 26 Sechs Tage sollt ihr sammeln; aber der siebente Tag ist der Sabbat, an dem wird nichts da sein. 27 Aber am siebenten Tage gingen etliche vom Volk hinaus, um zu sammeln, und fanden nichts. 28 Da sprach der HERR zu Mose: Wie lange weigert ihr euch, meine Gebote und Weisungen zu halten? 29 Sehet, der HERR hat euch den Sabbat gegeben; darum gibt er euch am sechsten Tage für zwei Tage Brot. So bleibe nun ein jeder, wo er ist, und niemand verlasse seinen Wohnplatz am siebenten Tage. 30 Also ruhte das Volk am siebenten Tage. 31 Und das Haus Israel nannte es Manna. Und es war wie weißer Koriandersamen und hatte einen Geschmack wie Semmel mit Honig. 32 Und Mose sprach: Das ist’s, was der HERR geboten hat: Fülle einen Krug davon, um es aufzubewahren für eure Nachkommen, auf dass man sehe das Brot, mit dem ich euch gespeist habe in der Wüste, als ich euch aus Ägyptenland führte. 33 Und Mose sprach zu Aaron: Nimm ein Gefäß und tu Manna hinein, einen Krug voll, und stelle es hin vor den HERRN, dass es aufbewahrt werde für eure Nachkommen. (Hebr 9,4) 34 Wie der HERR es Mose geboten hatte, so stellte Aaron das Gefäß vor die Lade des Zeugnisses, damit es aufbewahrt werde. (2Mo 25,16; 4Mo 17,25) 35 Und die Israeliten aßen Manna vierzig Jahre lang, bis sie in bewohntes Land kamen; bis an die Grenze des Landes Kanaan aßen sie Manna. (Jos 5,12) 36 Ein Krug aber ist der zehnte Teil eines Scheffels.

Bread from Heaven

1 They set out from Elim, and all the congregation of the people of Israel came to the wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after they had departed from the land of Egypt. (4Mo 33,10) 2 And the whole congregation of the people of Israel grumbled against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness, (2Mo 15,24; 2Mo 17,3; 1Kor 10,10) 3 and the people of Israel said to them, “Would that we had died by the hand of the Lord in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the meat pots and ate bread to the full, for you have brought us out into this wilderness to kill this whole assembly with hunger.” (4Mo 11,4; 4Mo 20,3) 4 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Behold, I am about to rain bread from heaven for you, and the people shall go out and gather a day’s portion every day, that I may test them, whether they will walk in my law or not. 5 On the sixth day, when they prepare what they bring in, it will be twice as much as they gather daily.” (2Mo 16,22) 6 So Moses and Aaron said to all the people of Israel, “At evening you shall know that it was the Lord who brought you out of the land of Egypt, (2Mo 6,7; 2Mo 16,12; 4Mo 16,28) 7 and in the morning you shall see the glory of the Lord, because he has heard your grumbling against the Lord. 8 And Moses said, “When the Lord gives you in the evening meat to eat and in the morning bread to the full, because the Lord has heard your grumbling that you grumble against him—what are we? 9 Then Moses said to Aaron, “Say to the whole congregation of the people of Israel, ‘Come near before the Lord, for he has heard your grumbling.’” (2Mo 4,14; 4Mo 16,16) 10 And as soon as Aaron spoke to the whole congregation of the people of Israel, they looked toward the wilderness, and behold, the glory of the Lord appeared in the cloud. 14 And when the dew had gone up, there was on the face of the wilderness a fine, flake-like thing, fine as frost on the ground. 15 When the people of Israel saw it, they said to one another, “What is it?”^[1] For they did not know what it was. And Moses said to them, “It is the bread that the Lord has given you to eat. (2Mo 16,4; 2Mo 16,31; 5Mo 8,3) 16 This is what the Lord has commanded: ‘Gather of it, each one of you, as much as he can eat. You shall each take an omer,^[2] according to the number of the persons that each of you has in his tent.’” (2Mo 16,36) 17 And the people of Israel did so. They gathered, some more, some less. 18 But when they measured it with an omer, whoever gathered much had nothing left over, and whoever gathered little had no lack. Some left part of it till the morning, and it bred worms and stank. And Moses was angry with them. 24 So they laid it aside till the morning, as Moses commanded them, and it did not stink, and there were no worms in it. (2Mo 16,20) 25 Moses said, “Eat it today, for today is a Sabbath to the Lord; today you will not find it in the field. (2Mo 16,23) 26 Six days you shall gather it, but on the seventh day, which is a Sabbath, there will be none.” 27 On the seventh day some of the people went out to gather, but they found none. 28 And the Lord said to Moses, “How long will you refuse to keep my commandments and my laws? (Ps 78,10; Hes 20,13) 29 See! The Lord has given you the Sabbath; therefore on the sixth day he gives you bread for two days. Remain each of you in his place; let no one go out of his place on the seventh day.” 30 So the people rested on the seventh day. (Lk 23,56) 31 Now the house of Israel called its name manna. It was like coriander seed, white, and the taste of it was like wafers made with honey. 35 The people of Israel ate the manna forty years, till they came to a habitable land. They ate the manna till they came to the border of the land of Canaan. (5Mo 8,2; Jos 5,12; Neh 9,20) 36 (An omer is the tenth part of an ephah.)^[3] (3Mo 5,11; 3Mo 6,20)
