Die achte Plage: Heuschrecken

1 Da sprach der HERR zu Mose: Geh hinein zum Pharao; denn ich habe sein und seiner Großen Herz verhärtet, auf dass ich diese meine Zeichen unter ihnen tue 2 und auf dass du verkündigst vor den Ohren deiner Kinder und deiner Kindeskinder, wie ich mit den Ägyptern verfahren bin und welche Zeichen ich unter ihnen getan habe, damit ihr wisst: Ich bin der HERR. (2Mo 6,2) 3 So gingen Mose und Aaron hinein zum Pharao und sprachen zu ihm: So spricht der HERR, der Gott der Hebräer: Wie lange weigerst du dich, dich vor mir zu demütigen? Lass mein Volk ziehen, dass es mir diene! (2Mo 5,3) 4 Weigerst du dich aber, mein Volk ziehen zu lassen, siehe, so will ich morgen Heuschrecken kommen lassen über dein Gebiet, 5 dass sie das Land so bedecken, dass man von ihm nichts mehr sehen kann. Und sie sollen fressen, was euch noch übrig und verschont geblieben ist von dem Hagel, und sollen alle Bäume kahl fressen, die wieder sprossen auf dem Felde; 6 und sie sollen füllen deine Häuser und die Häuser deiner Großen und aller Ägypter, wie es nicht gesehen haben deine Väter und deiner Väter Väter, seit sie auf Erden waren bis auf diesen Tag. Und er wandte sich und ging vom Pharao hinaus. 7 Da sprachen die Großen des Pharao zu ihm: Wie lange soll dieser Mann uns Verderben bringen? Lass die Leute ziehen, dass sie dem HERRN, ihrem Gott, dienen. Erkennst du denn nicht, dass Ägypten verloren ist? 8 Da wurden Mose und Aaron wieder vor den Pharao gebracht. Der sprach zu ihnen: Geht hin und dient dem HERRN, eurem Gott. Wer von euch soll aber hinziehen? 9 Mose sprach: Wir wollen ziehen mit Jung und Alt, mit Söhnen und Töchtern, mit Schafen und Rindern; denn wir haben ein Fest des HERRN. (2Mo 5,1) 10 Er sprach zu ihnen: O ja, der HERR sei mit euch, so gewiss wie ich euch und eure Kinder ziehen lasse! Ihr seht doch selbst, dass ihr Böses vorhabt! 11 Nein, nur ihr Männer zieht hin und dient dem HERRN! Denn das ist es doch, was ihr begehrt habt. Und man stieß sie hinaus vom Pharao. 12 Da sprach der HERR zu Mose: Recke deine Hand über Ägyptenland, dass Heuschrecken auf Ägyptenland kommen und alles auffressen, was im Lande wächst, alles, was der Hagel übrig gelassen hat. (2Mo 9,32) 13 Mose streckte seinen Stab über Ägyptenland, und der HERR trieb einen Ostwind ins Land, den ganzen Tag und die ganze Nacht. Und am Morgen führte der Ostwind die Heuschrecken herbei. (Joe 1,2; Joe 2,1) 14 Und sie kamen über ganz Ägyptenland und ließen sich nieder überall in Ägypten, so viele, wie nie zuvor gewesen sind noch hinfort sein werden. 15 Denn sie bedeckten den Boden des ganzen Landes, und das Land wurde finster. Und sie fraßen alles, was im Lande wuchs, und alle Früchte auf den Bäumen, die der Hagel übrig gelassen hatte, und ließen nichts Grünes übrig an den Bäumen und auf dem Felde in ganz Ägyptenland. 16 Da ließ der Pharao eilends Mose und Aaron rufen und sprach: Ich habe mich versündigt an dem HERRN, eurem Gott, und an euch. (2Mo 9,27) 17 Und nun, vergib mir meine Sünde nur noch diesmal, und bittet den HERRN, euren Gott, dass er doch diesen Tod von mir wegnehme. (2Mo 8,4) 18 Und er ging hinaus vom Pharao und betete zum HERRN. 19 Da wendete der HERR den Wind, sodass er sehr stark aus Westen kam; der hob die Heuschrecken auf und warf sie ins Schilfmeer, dass nicht eine übrig blieb in ganz Ägypten. 20 Aber der HERR verstockte das Herz des Pharao, dass er die Israeliten nicht ziehen ließ. (2Mo 4,21)

Die neunte Plage: Finsternis

21 Da sprach der HERR zu Mose: Recke deine Hand gen Himmel, dass eine solche Finsternis werde in Ägyptenland, dass man sie greifen kann. 22 Und Mose reckte seine Hand gen Himmel. Da ward eine so dicke Finsternis in ganz Ägyptenland drei Tage lang, 23 dass niemand den andern sah noch weggehen konnte von dem Ort, wo er gerade war, drei Tage lang. Aber bei allen Israeliten war es licht in ihren Wohnungen. 24 Da rief der Pharao nach Mose und sprach: Zieht hin und dient dem HERRN! Nur eure Schafe und Rinder sollen hierbleiben; eure Frauen und Kinder aber dürfen mit euch ziehen. (2Mo 10,1) 25 Mose sprach: Willst du uns denn Schlachtopfer und Brandopfer mitgeben, die wir unserm Gott, dem HERRN, darbringen? 26 Auch unser Vieh soll mit uns gehen – nicht eine Klaue darf dahintenbleiben –; denn davon müssen wir nehmen zum Dienst unseres Gottes, des HERRN. Wir wissen nicht, womit wir dem HERRN dienen sollen, bis wir dorthin kommen. 27 Aber der HERR verstockte das Herz des Pharao, dass er sie nicht ziehen lassen wollte. (2Mo 4,21) 28 Und der Pharao sprach zu ihm: Geh von mir und hüte dich, dass du mir nicht mehr vor die Augen kommst; denn an dem Tage, da du mir vor die Augen kommst, sollst du sterben. 29 Mose antwortete: Wie du gesagt hast; ich werde dir nicht mehr vor die Augen kommen.

The Eighth Plague: Locusts

1 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Go in to Pharaoh, for I have hardened his heart and the heart of his servants, that I may show these signs of mine among them, 2 and that you may tell in the hearing of your son and of your grandson how I have dealt harshly with the Egyptians and what signs I have done among them, that you may know that I am the Lord.” (2Mo 7,17; 2Mo 13,8; 2Mo 13,14; 5Mo 4,9; 5Mo 6,20; Ps 78,5; Joe 1,3)

3 So Moses and Aaron went in to Pharaoh and said to him, “Thus says the Lord, the God of the Hebrews, ‘How long will you refuse to humble yourself before me? Let my people go, that they may serve me. 5 and they shall cover the face of the land, so that no one can see the land. And they shall eat what is left to you after the hail, and they shall eat every tree of yours that grows in the field, (2Mo 9,32) 6 and they shall fill your houses and the houses of all your servants and of all the Egyptians, as neither your fathers nor your grandfathers have seen, from the day they came on earth to this day.’” Then he turned and went out from Pharaoh. (2Mo 8,3; 2Mo 8,21; Joe 2,9) 7 Then Pharaoh’s servants said to him, “How long shall this man be a snare to us? Let the men go, that they may serve the Lord their God. Do you not yet understand that Egypt is ruined?” 8 So Moses and Aaron were brought back to Pharaoh. And he said to them, “Go, serve the Lord your God. But which ones are to go?” (2Mo 10,24) 9 Moses said, “We will go with our young and our old. We will go with our sons and daughters and with our flocks and herds, for we must hold a feast to the Lord.” (2Mo 3,18; 2Mo 5,1) 10 But he said to them, “The Lord be with you, if ever I let you and your little ones go! Look, you have some evil purpose in mind.^[1] (2Mo 10,24) 11 No! Go, the men among you, and serve the Lord, for that is what you are asking.” And they were driven out from Pharaoh’s presence. 12 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand over the land of Egypt for the locusts, so that they may come upon the land of Egypt and eat every plant in the land, all that the hail has left.” (2Mo 7,19; 2Mo 10,4) 13 So Moses stretched out his staff over the land of Egypt, and the Lord brought an east wind upon the land all that day and all that night. When it was morning, the east wind had brought the locusts. 14 The locusts came up over all the land of Egypt and settled on the whole country of Egypt, such a dense swarm of locusts as had never been before, nor ever will be again. (Ps 78,46; Ps 105,34; Joe 2,2) 15 They covered the face of the whole land, so that the land was darkened, and they ate all the plants in the land and all the fruit of the trees that the hail had left. Not a green thing remained, neither tree nor plant of the field, through all the land of Egypt. (Ps 105,35) 16 Then Pharaoh hastily called Moses and Aaron and said, “I have sinned against the Lord your God, and against you. (2Mo 9,27) 17 Now therefore, forgive my sin, please, only this once, and plead with the Lord your God only to remove this death from me.” (2Mo 8,8) 18 So he went out from Pharaoh and pleaded with the Lord. (2Mo 8,30; 2Mo 9,33) 19 And the Lord turned the wind into a very strong west wind, which lifted the locusts and drove them into the Red Sea. Not a single locust was left in all the country of Egypt. (Joe 2,20) 20 But the Lord hardened Pharaoh’s heart, and he did not let the people of Israel go. (2Mo 4,21)

The Ninth Plague: Darkness

21 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand toward heaven, that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt, a darkness to be felt.” (2Mo 10,12; Ps 105,28) 22 So Moses stretched out his hand toward heaven, and there was pitch darkness in all the land of Egypt three days. 23 They did not see one another, nor did anyone rise from his place for three days, but all the people of Israel had light where they lived. (2Mo 8,22; 2Mo 9,4; 2Mo 9,6) 24 Then Pharaoh called Moses and said, “Go, serve the Lord; your little ones also may go with you; only let your flocks and your herds remain behind.” (2Mo 10,8; 2Mo 10,10) 25 But Moses said, “You must also let us have sacrifices and burnt offerings, that we may sacrifice to the Lord our God. 26 Our livestock also must go with us; not a hoof shall be left behind, for we must take of them to serve the Lord our God, and we do not know with what we must serve the Lord until we arrive there.” 27 But the Lord hardened Pharaoh’s heart, and he would not let them go. (2Mo 10,20) 28 Then Pharaoh said to him, “Get away from me; take care never to see my face again, for on the day you see my face you shall die.” 29 Moses said, “As you say! I will not see your face again.” (Hebr 11,27)

And he turned himself, and went out from Pharaoh. 7 And Pharaoh' servants said unto him, How long shall this man be a snare unto us? let the men go, that they may serve the LORD their God: knowest thou not yet that Egypt is destroyed? 8 And Moses and Aaron were brought again unto Pharaoh: and he said unto them, Go, serve the LORD your God: but who are they that shall go? 9 And Moses said, We will go with our young and with our old, with our sons and with our daughters, with our flocks and with our herds will we go; for we must hold a feast unto the LORD. 10 And he said unto them, Let the LORD be so with you, as I will let you go, and your little ones: look to it ; for evil is before you. 11 Not so: go now ye that are men, and serve the LORD; for that ye did desire. And they were driven out from Pharaoh' presence. 12 And the LORD said unto Moses, Stretch out thine hand over the land of Egypt for the locusts, that they may come up upon the land of Egypt, and eat every herb of the land, even all that the hail hath left. 13 And Moses stretched forth his rod over the land of Egypt, and the LORD brought an east wind upon the land all that day, and all that night; and when it was morning, the east wind brought the locusts. 14 And the locusts went up over all the land of Egypt, and rested in all the coasts of Egypt: very grievous were they ; before them there were no such locusts as they, neither after them shall be such. 15 For they covered the face of the whole earth, so that the land was darkened; and they did eat every herb of the land, and all the fruit of the trees which the hail had left: and there remained not any green thing in the trees, or in the herbs of the field, through all the land of Egypt. 16 Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron in haste; and he said, I have sinned against the LORD your God, and against you. 17 Now therefore forgive, I pray thee, my sin only this once, and intreat the LORD your God, that he may take away from me this death only. 18 And he went out from Pharaoh, and intreated the LORD. 19 And the LORD turned a mighty strong west wind, which took away the locusts, and cast them into the Red sea; there remained not one locust in all the coasts of Egypt. 20 But the LORD hardened Pharaoh' heart, so that he would not let the children of Israel go. 21 And the LORD said unto Moses, Stretch out thine hand toward heaven, that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt, even darkness which may be felt. 22 And Moses stretched forth his hand toward heaven; and there was a thick darkness in all the land of Egypt three days: 23 They saw not one another, neither rose any from his place for three days: but all the children of Israel had light in their dwellings. 24 And Pharaoh called unto Moses, and said, Go ye, serve the LORD; only let your flocks and your herds be stayed: let your little ones also go with you. 25 And Moses said, Thou must give us also sacrifices and burnt offerings, that we may sacrifice unto the LORD our God. 26 Our cattle also shall go with us; there shall not an hoof be left behind; for thereof must we take to serve the LORD our God; and we know not with what we must serve the LORD, until we come thither. 27 But the LORD hardened Pharaoh' heart, and he would not let them go. 28 And Pharaoh said unto him, Get thee from me, take heed to thyself, see my face no more; for in that day thou seest my face thou shalt die. 29 And Moses said, Thou hast spoken well, I will see thy face again no more.
