(2Sam 15,18; 2Sam 20,7; 2Sam 20,23)
1After this David defeated the Philistines and subdued them, and David took Metheg-ammah out of the hand of the Philistines. (1Chr 18,1)2And he defeated Moab and he measured them with a line, making them lie down on the ground. Two lines he measured to be put to death, and one full line to be spared. And the Moabites became servants to David and brought tribute. (4Mo 24,17; 1Sam 10,27; 2Sam 8,6; 2Sam 8,14; 2Kön 17,3; Ps 60,8; Ps 72,10)3David also defeated Hadadezer the son of Rehob, king of Zobah, as he went to restore his power at the river Euphrates. (1Sam 14,47; 2Sam 10,6; 2Sam 10,16; 2Sam 10,19; 1Kön 11,23; 1Chr 18,3)4And David took from him 1,700 horsemen, and 20,000 foot soldiers. And David hamstrung all the chariot horses but left enough for 100 chariots. (Jos 11,6; 1Chr 18,4)5And when the Syrians of Damascus came to help Hadadezer king of Zobah, David struck down 22,000 men of the Syrians. (Jos 11,6; 2Sam 8,3; 1Kön 11,23)6Then David put garrisons in Aram of Damascus, and the Syrians became servants to David and brought tribute. And the Lord gave victory to David wherever he went. (2Sam 8,2; 2Sam 8,14)7And David took the shields of gold that were carried by the servants of Hadadezer and brought them to Jerusalem. (2Kön 11,10; 2Chr 23,9; Hl 4,4)8And from Betah and from Berothai, cities of Hadadezer, King David took very much bronze.9When Toi king of Hamath heard that David had defeated the whole army of Hadadezer, (1Kön 8,65; 2Kön 18,34)10Toi sent his son Joram to King David, to ask about his health and to bless him because he had fought against Hadadezer and defeated him, for Hadadezer had often been at war with Toi. And Joram brought with him articles of silver, of gold, and of bronze.11These also King David dedicated to the Lord, together with the silver and gold that he dedicated from all the nations he subdued, (1Kön 7,51; 1Chr 26,26)12from Edom, Moab, the Ammonites, the Philistines, Amalek, and from the spoil of Hadadezer the son of Rehob, king of Zobah. (1Sam 30,20; 2Sam 5,17; 2Sam 8,2; 2Sam 8,3; 2Sam 10,14; 2Sam 12,30)13And David made a name for himself when he returned from striking down 18,000 Edomites in the Valley of Salt. (Jos 15,62; 2Kön 14,7)14Then he put garrisons in Edom; throughout all Edom he put garrisons, and all the Edomites became David’s servants. And the Lord gave victory to David wherever he went. (1Mo 25,23; 1Mo 27,29; 1Mo 27,37; 1Mo 27,40; 4Mo 24,18)

2.Samuel 8
King James Version
1And after this it came to pass, that David smote the Philistines, and subdued them: and David took Methegammah out of the hand of the Philistines.2And he smote Moab, and measured them with a line, casting them down to the ground; even with two lines measured he to put to death, and with one full line to keep alive. And so the Moabites became David' servants, and brought gifts.3David smote also Hadadezer, the son of Rehob, king of Zobah, as he went to recover his border at the river Euphrates.4And David took from him a thousand chariots , and seven hundred horsemen, and twenty thousand footmen: and David houghed all the chariot horses , but reserved of them for an hundred chariots.5And when the Syrians of Damascus came to succour Hadadezer king of Zobah, David slew of the Syrians two and twenty thousand men.6Then David put garrisons in Syria of Damascus: and the Syrians became servants to David, and brought gifts. And the LORD preserved David whithersoever he went.7And David took the shields of gold that were on the servants of Hadadezer, and brought them to Jerusalem.8And from Betah, and from Berothai, cities of Hadadezer, king David took exceeding much brass.9When Toi king of Hamath heard that David had smitten all the host of Hadadezer,10Then Toi sent Joram his son unto king David, to salute him, and to bless him, because he had fought against Hadadezer, and smitten him: for Hadadezer had wars with Toi. And Joram brought with him vessels of silver, and vessels of gold, and vessels of brass:11Which also king David did dedicate unto the LORD, with the silver and gold that he had dedicated of all nations which he subdued;12Of Syria, and of Moab, and of the children of Ammon, and of the Philistines, and of Amalek, and of the spoil of Hadadezer, son of Rehob, king of Zobah.13And David gat him a name when he returned from smiting of the Syrians in the valley of salt, being eighteen thousand men .14And he put garrisons in Edom; throughout all Edom put he garrisons, and all they of Edom became David' servants. And the LORD preserved David whithersoever he went.15And David reigned over all Israel; and David executed judgment and justice unto all his people.16And Joab the son of Zeruiah was over the host; and Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was recorder;17And Zadok the son of Ahitub, and Ahimelech the son of Abiathar, were the priests; and Seraiah was the scribe;18And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over both the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and David' sons were chief rulers.
1While David was king of Israel, he won many battles over the Philistines. He brought them under his control. He took Metheg Ammah away from them.2David also won the battle over the people of Moab. He made them lie down on the ground. Then he measured them off with a piece of rope. He put two-thirds of them to death. He let the other third remain alive. So the Moabites were brought under David’s rule. They gave him the gifts he required them to bring him.3David fought against Hadadezer, the son of Rehob. Hadadezer was king of Zobah. He had gone to repair his monument at the River Euphrates.4David captured 1,000 of Hadadezer’s chariots, 7,000 chariot riders and 20,000 soldiers on foot. He cut the legs of all but 100 of the chariot horses.5The Arameans of Damascus came to help Hadadezer, the king of Zobah. But David struck down 22,000 of them.6He stationed some soldiers in the Aramean kingdom of Damascus. The people of Aram were brought under his rule. They gave him the gifts he required them to bring him. The LORD helped David win his battles everywhere he went.7David took the gold shields that belonged to the officers of Hadadezer. He brought the shields to Jerusalem.8He took a huge amount of bronze from Tebah and Berothai. Those towns belonged to Hadadezer.9Tou was king of Hamath. He heard that David had won the battle over the entire army of Hadadezer.10So Tou sent his son Joram to King David. Joram greeted David. He praised David because he had won the battle over Hadadezer. Hadadezer had been at war with Tou. So Joram brought with him gifts made out of silver, of gold and of bronze.11King David set those gifts apart for the LORD. He had done the same thing with the silver and gold he had taken from the other nations. Those were nations he had brought under his control.12Those nations were Edom, Moab, Ammon, Philistia and Amalek. He also set apart for the LORD what he had taken from Hadadezer, the son of Rehob. Hadadezer was king of Zobah.13David returned after he had struck down 18,000 men of Edom in the Valley of Salt. He became famous for doing it.14He stationed some soldiers all through Edom. The whole nation of Edom was brought under David’s rule. The LORD helped him win his battles everywhere he went.
David’s officials
15David ruled over the whole nation of Israel. He did what was fair and right for all his people.16Joab, the son of Zeruiah, was commander over the army. Jehoshaphat, the son of Ahilud, kept the records.17Zadok, the son of Ahitub, was a priest. Ahimelek, the son of Abiathar, was also a priest. Seraiah was the secretary.18Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada, was commander over the Kerethites and Pelethites. And David’s sons were priests.
1In the course of time, David defeated the Philistines and subdued them, and he took Metheg Ammah from the control of the Philistines.2David also defeated the Moabites. He made them lie down on the ground and measured them off with a length of cord. Every two lengths of them were put to death, and the third length was allowed to live. So the Moabites became subject to David and brought him tribute.3Moreover, David defeated Hadadezer son of Rehob, king of Zobah, when he went to restore his monument at[1] the River Euphrates.4David captured a thousand of his chariots, seven thousand charioteers[2] and twenty thousand foot soldiers. He hamstrung all but a hundred of the chariot horses. (1Chr 18,4)5When the Arameans of Damascus came to help Hadadezer king of Zobah, David struck down twenty-two thousand of them.6He put garrisons in the Aramean kingdom of Damascus, and the Arameans became subject to him and brought tribute. The Lord gave David victory wherever he went.7David took the gold shields that belonged to the officers of Hadadezer and brought them to Jerusalem.8From Tebah[3] and Berothai, towns that belonged to Hadadezer, King David took a great quantity of bronze. (1Chr 18,8)9When Tou[4] king of Hamath heard that David had defeated the entire army of Hadadezer,10he sent his son Joram[5] to King David to greet him and congratulate him on his victory in battle over Hadadezer, who had been at war with Tou. Joram brought with him articles of silver, of gold and of bronze.11King David dedicated these articles to the Lord, as he had done with the silver and gold from all the nations he had subdued:12Edom[6] and Moab, the Ammonites and the Philistines, and Amalek. He also dedicated the plunder taken from Hadadezer son of Rehob, king of Zobah. (1Chr 18,11)13And David became famous after he returned from striking down eighteen thousand Edomites[7] in the Valley of Salt. (1Chr 18,12)14He put garrisons throughout Edom, and all the Edomites became subject to David. The Lord gave David victory wherever he went.
