1Abraham aber zog von dannen ins Südland und wohnte zwischen Kadesch und Schur und lebte nun als ein Fremdling zu Gerar. (1Mo 12,9; 1Mo 12,10; 1Mo 26,1)2Er sagte aber von Sara, seiner Frau: Sie ist meine Schwester. Da sandte Abimelech, der König von Gerar, hin und ließ Sara holen.3Aber Gott kam zu Abimelech des Nachts im Traum und sprach zu ihm: Siehe, du bist des Todes um der Frau willen, die du genommen hast; denn sie ist eines Mannes Ehefrau.4Abimelech aber hatte sie nicht berührt und sprach: Herr, willst du denn auch ein gerechtes Volk umbringen?5Hat er nicht zu mir gesagt: Sie ist meine Schwester? Und sie hat auch gesagt: Er ist mein Bruder. Hab ich das doch getan mit einfältigem Herzen und unschuldigen Händen.6Und Gott sprach zu ihm im Traum: Ich weiß auch, dass du das mit einfältigem Herzen getan hast. Darum habe ich dich auch behütet, dass du nicht wider mich sündigtest, und habe es nicht zugelassen, dass du sie berührtest.7So gib nun dem Mann seine Frau wieder, denn er ist ein Prophet, und lass ihn für dich bitten, so wirst du am Leben bleiben. Wenn du sie aber nicht wiedergibst, so wisse, dass du des Todes sterben musst und alles, was dein ist. (1Kön 13,6)8Da stand Abimelech früh am Morgen auf und rief alle seine Knechte und sagte dieses alles vor ihren Ohren. Und die Männer fürchteten sich sehr.9Und Abimelech rief Abraham auch herzu und sprach zu ihm: Warum hast du uns das angetan? Und was habe ich an dir gesündigt, dass du eine so große Sünde wolltest auf mich und mein Reich bringen? Du hast an mir gehandelt, wie man nicht handeln soll.10Und Abimelech sprach weiter zu Abraham: Wie bist du dazu gekommen, dass du solches getan hast?11Abraham sprach: Ich dachte, gewiss ist keine Gottesfurcht an diesem Orte, und sie werden mich um meiner Frau willen umbringen.12Auch ist sie wahrhaftig meine Schwester, denn sie ist meines Vaters Tochter, aber nicht meiner Mutter Tochter; so ist sie meine Frau geworden. (3Mo 18,9)13Als mich Gott aus meines Vaters Hause ins Ungewisse wandern hieß, sprach ich zu ihr: Tu mir diese Liebe, dass, wo wir hinkommen, du von mir sagst, ich sei dein Bruder. (1Mo 12,1)14Da nahm Abimelech Schafe und Rinder, Knechte und Mägde und gab sie Abraham und gab ihm Sara, seine Frau, wieder.15Und Abimelech sprach: Siehe da, mein Land steht dir offen; wohne, wo dir’s wohlgefällt.16Und zu Sara sprach er: Siehe da, ich habe deinem Bruder tausend Silberstücke gegeben; siehe, das soll eine Decke sein über den Augen aller, die bei dir sind, dir zugute. Damit ist dir bei allen Recht verschafft.17Abraham aber betete zu Gott. Da heilte Gott Abimelech und seine Frau und seine Mägde, dass sie wieder Kinder gebaren.18Denn der HERR hatte zuvor hart verschlossen jeden Mutterschoß im Hause Abimelechs um Saras, Abrahams Frau, willen.
1From there Abraham journeyed toward the territory of the Negeb and lived between Kadesh and Shur; and he sojourned in Gerar. 1Abraham moved south into the Negev Desert. He lived between Kadesh and Shur. For a while he stayed in Gerar.2There Abraham said about his wife Sarah, ‘She’s my sister.’ Then Abimelek, the king of Gerar, sent for Sarah and took her.3So God appeared to Abimelek in a dream one night. He said to him, ‘You are as good as dead because of the woman you have taken. She is already married.’4But Abimelek hadn’t gone near her. So he said, ‘Lord, will you destroy a nation that hasn’t done anything wrong?5Didn’t Abraham say to me, “She’s my sister”? And didn’t she also say, “He’s my brother”? I had no idea I was doing anything wrong.’6Then God spoke to him in the dream. He said, ‘Yes, I know you had no idea you were doing anything wrong. So I have kept you from sinning against me. That is why I did not let you touch her.7Now return the man’s wife to him. He is a prophet. So he will pray for you, and you will live. But what if you do not return her? Then you can be sure that you and all your people will die.’8Early the next morning Abimelek sent for all his officials. When he told them everything that had happened, they were really afraid.9Then Abimelek called Abraham in. Abimelek said, ‘What have you done to us? Have I done something wrong to you? Why have you brought so much guilt on me and my kingdom? You have done things to me that should never be done.’10Abimelek also asked Abraham, ‘Why did you do this?’11Abraham replied, ‘I thought, “There is no respect for God in this place. They will kill me because of my wife.”12Besides, she really is my sister. She’s the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother. And she became my wife.13God caused me to wander away from my father’s house. So I said to her, “Here is how you can show your love to me. Everywhere we go, say about me, ‘He’s my brother.’ ” ’14Then Abimelek gave Abraham sheep and cattle and male and female slaves. He also returned his wife Sarah to him.15Abimelek said, ‘Here is my land. Live anywhere you want to.’16He said to Sarah, ‘I’m giving your brother 12 kilograms of silver. This will show everyone with you that I am sorry for what I did to you. You haven’t done anything wrong.’17Then Abraham prayed to God, and God healed Abimelek. He also healed his wife and his female slaves so they could have children again.18The LORD had kept all the women in Abimelek’s house from having children. He had done it because of Abraham’s wife Sarah.

You have done things to me that should never be done.’10And Abimelek asked Abraham, ‘What was your reason for doing this?’11Abraham replied, ‘I said to myself, “There is surely no fear of God in this place, and they will kill me because of my wife.”12Besides, she really is my sister, the daughter of my father though not of my mother; and she became my wife.13And when God caused me to wander from my father’s household, I said to her, “This is how you can show your love to me: everywhere we go, say of me, ‘He is my brother.’ ” ’14Then Abimelek brought sheep and cattle and male and female slaves and gave them to Abraham, and he returned Sarah his wife to him.15And Abimelek said, ‘My land is before you; live wherever you like.’16To Sarah he said, ‘I am giving your brother a thousand shekels[1] of silver. This is to cover the offence against you before all who are with you; you are completely vindicated.’17Then Abraham prayed to God, and God healed Abimelek, his wife and his female slaves so they could have children again,18for the Lord had kept all the women in Abimelek’s household from conceiving because of Abraham’s wife Sarah.
