1Es begab sich zur Zeit des Ahas, des Sohnes Jotams, des Sohnes Usijas, des Königs von Juda, da zogen Rezin, der König von Aram, und Pekach, der Sohn Remaljas, der König von Israel, herauf nach Jerusalem, um es zu bekämpfen; sie konnten es aber nicht erobern.[1] (2Kön 16,5)2Da wurde dem Hause David angesagt: Die Aramäer haben sich gelagert in Ephraim. Da bebte ihm das Herz und das Herz seines Volks, wie die Bäume im Walde beben vom Winde.3Aber der HERR sprach zu Jesaja: Geh hinaus, Ahas entgegen, du und dein Sohn Schear-Jaschub[2], an das Ende der Wasserleitung des oberen Teiches, an der Straße beim Acker des Walkers, (Jes 10,21; Jes 36,2)4und sprich zu ihm: Hüte dich und bleibe still; fürchte dich nicht, und dein Herz sei unverzagt vor diesen beiden Brandscheiten, die nur noch rauchen, dem glühenden Zorn Rezins und der Aramäer und des Sohnes Remaljas. (Jes 30,15)5Weil die Aramäer gegen dich Böses ersonnen haben samt Ephraim und dem Sohn Remaljas und sagen:6»Wir wollen hinaufziehen nach Juda und es in Schrecken versetzen und für uns erobern und zum König darin machen den Sohn Tabeals«, –7so spricht Gott der HERR: Das soll nicht bestehen und wird nicht geschehen.8Denn das Haupt von Aram ist Damaskus, und das Haupt von Damaskus ist Rezin – und in fünfundsechzig Jahren soll es mit Ephraim aus sein, dass sie nicht mehr ein Volk seien.9Und das Haupt von Ephraim ist Samaria, und das Haupt von Samaria ist der Sohn Remaljas. Glaubt ihr nicht, so bleibt ihr nicht. (2Chr 20,20; Jes 28,16)
Das Zeichen des Immanuel und das Strafgericht durch die Assyrer
10Und der HERR redete abermals zu Ahas und sprach:11Fordere dir ein Zeichen vom HERRN, deinem Gott, es sei drunten in der Tiefe oder droben in der Höhe!12Aber Ahas sprach: Ich will’s nicht fordern, damit ich den HERRN nicht versuche. (5Mo 6,16)13Da sprach Jesaja: Wohlan, so hört, ihr vom Hause David: Ist’s euch zu wenig, dass ihr Menschen müde macht? Müsst ihr auch meinen Gott müde machen?14Darum wird euch der Herr selbst ein Zeichen geben: Siehe, eine Jungfrau[3] ist schwanger und wird einen Sohn gebären, den wird sie nennen Immanuel[4]. (Jes 9,5; Mi 5,2; Mt 1,23; Lk 1,31)15Butter und Honig wird er essen, bis er weiß, Böses zu verwerfen und Gutes zu erwählen. (Jes 22,1)16Denn ehe der Knabe weiß, Böses zu verwerfen und Gutes zu erwählen, wird das Land verödet sein, vor dessen zwei Königen dir graut. (Jes 8,4)17Der HERR wird über dich, über dein Volk und über deines Vaters Haus Tage kommen lassen, wie sie nicht gekommen sind seit der Zeit, da Ephraim sich von Juda schied, nämlich durch den König von Assyrien.18Zu der Zeit wird der HERR herbeipfeifen die Fliege am Ende der Ströme Ägyptens und die Biene im Lande Assur, (Jes 5,26)19dass sie kommen und sich alle niederlassen in den tiefen Tälern und in den Steinklüften und in allen Hecken und an jeder Tränke.20Zu der Zeit wird der Herr das Haupt und die Haare am Leib scheren und den Bart abnehmen durch das Schermesser, das gedungen ist jenseits des Stroms, durch den König von Assyrien.21Zu der Zeit wird ein Mann eine junge Kuh und zwei Schafe aufziehen22und wird so viel zu melken haben, dass er Butter essen wird; denn Butter und Honig wird essen, wer übrig bleiben wird im Lande. (Jes 15,1)23Und es wird zu der Zeit geschehen: Wo jetzt tausend Weinstöcke stehen, tausend Silberstücke wert, da werden Dornen und Disteln sein, (Jes 5,6)24dass man mit Pfeil und Bogen dahin gehen muss. Denn im ganzen Lande werden Dornen und Disteln sein,25dass man auch zu all den Bergen, die man jetzt mit der Hacke zu behacken pflegt, nicht kommen kann aus Scheu vor Dornen und Disteln, sondern man wird Rinder darüber treiben und Schafe es zertreten lassen.
Des Königs Ahas Verzagtheit und Unglaube – Verheißung des Immanuel
1Und es geschah in den Tagen des Ahas, des Sohnes Jotams, des Sohnes Usijas, des Königs von Juda, da zog Rezin, der König von Aram, und Pekach, der Sohn des Remalja, der König von Israel, nach Jerusalem hinauf zum Kampf gegen es; aber er konnte nicht gegen es kämpfen. (2Kön 15,27; 2Kön 16,1; 2Kön 16,5; 2Chr 28,5; Jes 8,6)2Als nun dem Haus David gemeldet wurde: Aram hat sich auf ⟨dem Gebiet von⟩ Ephraim niedergelassen, da bebte sein Herz und das Herz seines Volkes, wie die Bäume des Waldes vor dem Wind beben.3Der HERR aber sprach zu Jesaja: Geh doch hinaus, Ahas entgegen, du und dein Sohn Schear-Jaschub[1], an das Ende der Wasserleitung des oberen Teiches, zur Straße des Walkerfeldes, (2Kön 16,1; 2Kön 18,17; Jes 22,10; Jes 36,2)4und sage ihm: Hüte dich und halte dich ruhig! (2Kön 15,29; 2Kön 16,9; Jes 8,4)17Der HERR wird über dich, über dein Volk und über das Haus deines Vaters Tage kommen lassen, wie sie nicht gekommen sind seit dem Tag, an dem Ephraim sich von Juda getrennt hat[11]: den König von Assur. (1Kön 12,19; 2Kön 18,13; Jes 8,7; Jes 36,1)18Und es wird geschehen an jenem Tag, da wird der HERR die Fliege, die am Ende der Ströme[12] Ägyptens, und die Biene, die im Land Assur ist, herbeipfeifen. (Ps 105,31; Jes 5,26)19Dann werden sie kommen und sich alle niederlassen in den Tälern der Schluchten und in den Spalten der Felsen, in allen Dornsträuchern und an allen Tränkplätzen.20An jenem Tag wird der Herr durch das Schermesser, das auf der anderen Seite des Stromes angeheuert wurde, ⟨nämlich⟩ durch den König von Assur, das Haupt scheren und das Haar der Beine[13], ja, auch den Bart wird es wegnehmen. (2Kön 18,13; Jes 8,7; Jes 9,13; Jes 10,5; Jes 36,1; Hes 5,1)21An jenem Tag wird es geschehen, da wird einer[14] eine junge Kuh und zwei Schafe[15] am Leben erhalten.22Und es wird geschehen, wegen der Menge der Milch, die sie geben, wird er Rahm[16] essen, ja, Rahm und Honig wird jeder essen, der im Land übrig geblieben ist.23Und es wird an jenem Tag geschehen, dass jeder Ort, wo tausend Weinstöcke ⟨im Wert⟩ von tausend Silber⟨schekeln⟩ stehen, den Dornen und Disteln gehört. 1When Ahaz son of Jotham, the son of Uzziah, was king of Judah, King Rezin of Aram and Pekah son of Remaliah king of Israel marched up to fight against Jerusalem, but they could not overpower it.2Now the house of David was told, ‘Aram has allied itself with[1] Ephraim’; so the hearts of Ahaz and his people were shaken, as the trees of the forest are shaken by the wind.3Then the Lord said to Isaiah, ‘Go out, you and your son Shear-Jashub,[2] to meet Ahaz at the end of the aqueduct of the Upper Pool, on the road to the Launderer’s Field.4Say to him, “Be careful, keep calm and don’t be afraid. Do not lose heart because of these two smouldering stubs of firewood – because of the fierce anger of Rezin and Aram and of the son of Remaliah.5Aram, Ephraim and Remaliah’s son have plotted your ruin, saying,6‘Let us invade Judah; let us tear it apart and divide it among ourselves, and make the son of Tabeel king over it.’7Yet this is what the Sovereign Lord says: ‘ “It will not take place, it will not happen,8for the head of Aram is Damascus, and the head of Damascus is only Rezin. Within sixty-five years Ephraim will be too shattered to be a people.9The head of Ephraim is Samaria, and the head of Samaria is only Remaliah’s son. If you do not stand firm in your faith, you will not stand at all.” ’10Again the Lord spoke to Ahaz,11‘Ask the Lord your God for a sign, whether in the deepest depths or in the highest heights.’12But Ahaz said, ‘I will not ask; I will not put the Lord to the test.’13Then Isaiah said, ‘Hear now, you house of David! Is it not enough to try the patience of humans? Will you try the patience of my God also?14Therefore the Lord himself will give you[3] a sign: the virgin[4] will conceive and give birth to a son, and[5] will call him Immanuel.[6]15He will be eating curds and honey when he knows enough to reject the wrong and choose the right,16for before the boy knows enough to reject the wrong and choose the right, the land of the two kings you dread will be laid waste.17The Lord will bring on you and on your people and on the house of your father a time unlike any since Ephraim broke away from Judah – he will bring the king of Assyria.’
Assyria, the Lord’s instrument
18In that day the Lord will whistle for flies from the Nile delta in Egypt and for bees from the land of Assyria.19They will all come and settle in the steep ravines and in the crevices in the rocks, on all the thornbushes and at all the water holes.20In that day the Lord will use a razor hired from beyond the River Euphrates – the king of Assyria – to shave your heads and private parts, and to cut off your beards also.21In that day, a person will keep alive a young cow and two goats.22And because of the abundance of the milk they give, there will be curds to eat. All who remain in the land will eat curds and honey.23In that day, in every place where there were a thousand vines worth a thousand silver shekels,[7] there will be only briers and thorns.24Hunters will go there with bow and arrow, for the land will be covered with briers and thorns.25As for all the hills once cultivated by the hoe, you will no longer go there for fear of the briers and thorns; they will become places where cattle are turned loose and where sheep run.
