Die Leviten, ihre Abteilungen und Ämter

1 Als David alt und lebenssatt war, machte er seinen Sohn Salomo zum König über Israel (1Kön 1,28) 

2 und versammelte alle Oberen Israels und die Priester und Leviten. 

3 Und man zählte die Leviten von dreißig Jahren an und darüber, und die Zahl der Männer, nach Köpfen abgezählt, betrug 38000. 

4 »Von diesen sollen 24000 die Aufsicht über die Arbeit am Hause des HERRN haben und 6000 Amtleute und Richter sein 

5 und 4000 Torhüter und 4000 Sänger des HERRN mit Saitenspielen, die ich zum Lobgesang habe machen lassen.« 

6 Und David teilte sie in Abteilungen ein, nach den Söhnen Levis: Gerschon, Kehat und Merari. (1Chr 6,1) 

7 Die Gerschoniter waren Ladan und Schimi. 

8 Die Söhne Ladans waren: Jehiël, der erste, ferner Setam und Joel, diese drei. (1Chr 26,21) 

9 Söhne Schimis waren: Schelomit, Hasiël und Haran, diese drei. Diese waren die Häupter der Sippen von Ladan. 

10 Schimis Söhne waren: Jahat, Sisa, Jëusch und Beria. Diese vier waren Schimis Söhne. 

11 Jahat aber war der erste, Sisa der zweite. Aber Jëusch und Beria hatten nicht viele Söhne, darum galten sie als eine Sippe, als eine Abteilung. 

12 Die Söhne Kehats waren: Amram, Jizhar, Hebron und Usiël, diese vier. (1Chr 5,28) 

13 Die Söhne Amrams waren: Aaron und Mose. Aaron aber wurde ausgesondert, dass er heilige das Hochheilige, er und seine Söhne für alle Zeiten, zu räuchern vor dem HERRN und ihm zu dienen und zu segnen im Namen des Herrn ewiglich. (4Mo 6,24; 5Mo 10,8; 1Chr 5,29; 1Chr 6,34; Hebr 5,4) 

14 Aber die Söhne des Mose, des Mannes Gottes, wurden gerechnet zum Stamm der Leviten. 

15 Die Söhne des Mose waren: Gerschom und Eliëser. (2Mo 18,3) 

16 Der Sohn Gerschoms war: Schubaël, der erste. (1Chr 26,24) 

17 Der Sohn Eliësers war: Rehabja, der erste. Und Eliëser hatte keine andern Söhne. Aber die Söhne Rehabjas waren überaus viele. (1Chr 24,21) 

18 Der Sohn Jizhars war: Schelomit, der erste. 

19 Die Söhne Hebrons waren: Jerija, der erste, Amarja, der zweite Sohn, Jahasiël, der dritte, und Jekamam, der vierte. 

20 Die Söhne Usiëls waren: Micha, der erste, und Jischija, der zweite Sohn. 

21 Die Söhne Meraris waren: Machli und Muschi. Die Söhne Machlis waren: Eleasar und Kisch. (1Chr 6,4) 

22 Eleasar aber starb und hatte keine Söhne, sondern nur Töchter; und die Söhne des Kisch, ihre Vettern, nahmen sie zu Frauen. 

23 Die Söhne Muschis waren: Machli, Eder und Jeremot, diese drei. 

24 Das sind die Söhne Levi nach ihren Sippen, nämlich die Häupter der Sippen, gemustert und Mann für Mann nach den Namen aufgezählt, die den Dienst im Hause des HERRN verrichteten, von zwanzig Jahren an und darüber. 

25 Denn David sprach: Der HERR, der Gott Israels, hat seinem Volk Ruhe gegeben und wird zu Jerusalem wohnen ewiglich. (Joe 4,21) 

26 So brauchten auch die Söhne Levi die Wohnung nicht mehr zu tragen mit allem Gerät für ihren Dienst – 

27 denn nach den späteren Ordnungen Davids wurden die Söhne Levi gezählt von zwanzig Jahren an und darüber –, 

28 sondern sie sollten stehen an der Seite der Söhne Aaron zum Dienst im Hause des HERRN in den Vorhöfen und Kammern und zur Reinigung alles Heiligen und zu allem Dienst im Hause Gottes, 

29 für das Schaubrot, für feines Mehl zum Speisopfer, für die ungesäuerten Fladen, für die Pfanne, fürs Rösten und für alles Gewicht und Maß. 

30 Und an jedem Morgen sollten sie stehen, zu danken und zu loben den HERRN, und ebenso an jedem Abend, 

31 und alle Brandopfer dem HERRN zu opfern an den Sabbaten, Neumonden und Festen nach der vorgeschriebenen Zahl, täglich vor dem HERRN; 

32 so sollten sie den Dienst versehen an der Stiftshütte, am Heiligtum sowie an den Söhnen Aaron, ihren Brüdern, damit zu dienen im Hause des HERRN.

Zahl, Ordnung und Dienst der Leviten

2 Und er versammelte alle Obersten Israels und die Priester und die Leviten. (Jos 23,2; 1Chr 28,1) 

3 Und die Leviten wurden gezählt von dreißig Jahren an und darüber; und ihre Zahl war, Kopf für Kopf, an Männern 38 000. (4Mo 4,46) 

4 ⟨Und David sagte:⟩ Von diesen sind 24 000 für die Aufsicht über die Arbeit am Haus des HERRN ⟨bestimmt,⟩ und 6 000 ⟨sollen⟩ Aufseher und Richter ⟨sein⟩ (5Mo 16,18; 1Chr 26,29; 2Chr 19,8; 2Chr 23,18)

6 Und David teilte sie in Abteilungen ein nach den Söhnen Levis, nach Gerschon, Kehat und Merari. (4Mo 3,1; 4Mo 4,1; 1Chr 5,27; 1Chr 24,1; 2Chr 8,14; 2Chr 31,2; 2Chr 35,4) 

7 Von den Gerschonitern: Ladan und Schimi. (1Chr 6,2) 

8 Die Söhne Ladans: das Oberhaupt, Jehiël, dann Setam und Joel, ⟨zusammen⟩ drei. (1Chr 26,21) 

9 Die Söhne Schimis: Schelomit und Hasiël und Haran, ⟨zusammen⟩ drei. Diese waren die Familienoberhäupter von Ladan. 

10 Und die Söhne Schimis: Jahat, Sisa und Jëusch und Beria; das waren die Söhne Schimis, ⟨zusammen⟩ vier. 

11 Und Jahat war das Oberhaupt und Sisa der zweite; und Jëusch und Beria hatten nicht viele Söhne, und so bildeten sie ein Vaterhaus, eine Dienstabteilung. 

12 Die Söhne Kehats: Amram, Jizhar, Hebron und Usiël, ⟨zusammen⟩ vier. (2Mo 6,18; 4Mo 3,27; 1Chr 5,28; 1Chr 6,3) 

13 Die Söhne Amrams: Aaron und Mose. Und Aaron wurde ausgesondert, das Hochheilige zu heiligen, er und seine Söhne für ewig, vor dem HERRN Rauchopfer darzubringen, ihm zu dienen und in seinem Namen zu segnen, für ewig. (2Mo 6,20; 2Mo 28,1; 3Mo 9,22; 4Mo 6,23; 5Mo 10,8; 1Chr 5,29; 1Chr 6,34; Hebr 5,1; Hebr 9,6) 

14 Die Söhne des Mose, des Mannes Gottes, wurden dem Stamm des Levi zugerechnet. (5Mo 33,1; 2Chr 30,16; Esr 3,2) 

15 Die Söhne Moses: Gerschom und Eliëser. (2Mo 18,3; 1Chr 24,20) 

16 Die Söhne Gerschoms: Schebuël, das Oberhaupt. (1Chr 26,24) 

17 Und die Söhne Eliësers waren: Rehabja, das Oberhaupt; und Eliëser hatte keine anderen Söhne; aber die Söhne Rehabjas waren überaus zahlreich. – (1Chr 26,24) 

18 Die Söhne Jizhars: Schelomit, das Oberhaupt. 

19 Die Söhne Hebrons: Jerija, das Oberhaupt, Amarja, der zweite, Jahasiël, der dritte, und Jekamam, der vierte. (1Chr 26,31) 

20 Die Söhne Usiëls: Micha, das Oberhaupt, und Jischija, der zweite. 

21 Die Söhne Meraris: Machli und Muschi. Die Söhne Machlis: Eleasar und Kisch. (4Mo 3,33; 1Chr 6,4) 

22 Und Eleasar starb, und er hatte keine Söhne, sondern ⟨nur⟩ Töchter; und die Söhne des Kisch, ihre Brüder, nahmen sie ⟨zu Frauen⟩. (4Mo 36,6) 

23 Die Söhne Muschis: Machli und Eder und Jeremot, ⟨zusammen⟩ drei. 

24 Das waren die Söhne Levi nach ihren Vaterhäusern, Familienoberhäuptern, wie sie gemustert wurden nach der Zählung der Namen, Kopf für Kopf, die die Arbeit taten für den Dienst des Hauses des HERRN, von zwanzig Jahren an und darüber. (4Mo 4,3; Esr 3,8; Neh 7,1) 

25 Denn David sagte: Der HERR, der Gott Israels, hat seinem Volk Ruhe verschafft, und er wohnt in Jerusalem für ewig. (Jos 23,1; 1Chr 22,18; Ps 132,14; Ps 135,21; Joe 4,21; Sach 2,14) 

26 So haben auch die Leviten die Wohnung und alle ihre Geräte für ihren Dienst nicht mehr zu tragen – (2Chr 35,3) 

27 denn nach den letzten Worten Davids ist das die Zählung der Söhne Levi von zwanzig Jahren an und darüber –, (4Mo 4,3; 2Chr 31,17) 

28 denn ihr Platz ist an der Seite der Söhne Aaron zum Dienst am Haus des HERRN hinsichtlich der Vorhöfe und der Zellen und zur Reinigung alles Heiligen und ⟨hinsichtlich⟩ dessen, was im Dienst am Haus Gottes zu tun ist: (4Mo 3,6; 2Chr 23,4) 

29 für die Schaubrote und für den Weizengrieß zum Speisopfer und für die ungesäuerten Fladen und für die Pfanne und für den Teig und für alles Hohl- und Längenmaß. (3Mo 2,4; 3Mo 19,35; 3Mo 24,5) 

30 Und ⟨ihre Aufgabe ist es,⟩ Morgen für Morgen anzutreten, um den HERRN zu preisen und zu loben, und ebenso am Abend, (1Chr 23,5; Ps 92,3; Ps 134,1) 

31 und alle Brandopfer dem HERRN zu opfern an den Sabbaten, an den Neumonden und an den Festen, abgezählt nach der für sie geltenden Vorschrift, regelmäßig vor dem HERRN. (4Mo 28,2; 2Chr 24,14) 

32 Und sie versahen den Dienst am Zelt der Begegnung und den Dienst am Heiligtum und den Dienst der Söhne Aaron, ihrer Brüder, bei der Bedienung des Hauses des HERRN. (4Mo 18,5; 5Mo 18,7; Hes 44,14)

New International Version

The Levites

1 When David was old and full of years, he made his son Solomon king over Israel. 

2 He also gathered together all the leaders of Israel, as well as the priests and Levites. 

3 The Levites thirty years old or more were counted, and the total number of men was thirty-eight thousand. 

4 David said, ‘Of these, twenty-four thousand are to be in charge of the work of the temple of the Lord and six thousand are to be officials and judges. 

5 Four thousand are to be gatekeepers and four thousand are to praise the Lord with the musical instruments I have provided for that purpose.’ 

6 David separated the Levites into divisions corresponding to the sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath and Merari. 

Gershonites

7 Belonging to the Gershonites: Ladan and Shimei. 

8 The sons of Ladan: Jehiel the first, Zetham and Joel – three in all. 

9 The sons of Shimei: Shelomoth, Haziel and Haran – three in all. (These were the heads of the families of Ladan.) 

10 And the sons of Shimei: Jahath, Ziza, Jeush and Beriah. These were the sons of Shimei – four in all. 

11 (Jahath was the first and Ziza the second, but Jeush and Beriah did not have many sons; so they were counted as one family with one assignment.) 

Kohathites

12 The sons of Kohath: Amram, Izhar, Hebron and Uzziel – four in all. 

13 The sons of Amram: Aaron and Moses. Aaron was set apart, he and his descendants for ever, to consecrate the most holy things, to offer sacrifices before the Lord, to minister before him and to pronounce blessings in his name for ever. 

14 The sons of Moses the man of God were counted as part of the tribe of Levi. 

15 The sons of Moses: Gershom and Eliezer. 

16 The descendants of Gershom: Shubael was the first. 

17 The descendants of Eliezer: Rehabiah was the first. (Eliezer had no other sons, but the sons of Rehabiah were very numerous.) 

18 The sons of Izhar: Shelomith was the first. 

19 The sons of Hebron: Jeriah the first, Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third and Jekameam the fourth. 

20 The sons of Uzziel: Micah the first and Ishiah the second. 

Merarites

21 The sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi. The sons of Mahli: Eleazar and Kish. 

22 (Eleazar died without having sons: he had only daughters. Their cousins, the sons of Kish, married them.) 

23 The sons of Mushi: Mahli, Eder and Jerimoth – three in all. 

24 These were the descendants of Levi by their families – the heads of families as they were registered under their names and counted individually, that is, the workers twenty years old or more who served in the temple of the Lord. 

25 For David had said, ‘Since the Lord, the God of Israel, has granted rest to his people and has come to dwell in Jerusalem for ever, 

26 the Levites no longer need to carry the tabernacle or any of the articles used in its service.’ 

27 According to the last instructions of David, the Levites were counted from those twenty years old or more. 

28 The duty of the Levites was to help Aaron’s descendants in the service of the temple of the Lord: to be in charge of the courtyards, the side rooms, the purification of all sacred things and the performance of other duties at the house of God. 

29 They were in charge of the bread set out on the table, the special flour for the grain offerings, the thin loaves made without yeast, the baking and the mixing, and all measurements of quantity and size. 

30 They were also to stand every morning to thank and praise the Lord. They were to do the same in the evening 

31 and whenever burnt offerings were presented to the Lord on the Sabbaths, at the New Moon feasts and at the appointed festivals. They were to serve before the Lord regularly in the proper number and in the way prescribed for them. 

32 And so the Levites carried out their responsibilities for the tent of meeting, for the Holy Place and, under their relatives the descendants of Aaron, for the service of the temple of the Lord.

1 So when David was old and full of days, he made Solomon his son king over Israel. 

2 And he gathered together all the princes of Israel, with the priests and the Levites. 

3 Now the Levites were numbered from the age of thirty years and upward: and their number by their polls, man by man, was thirty and eight thousand. 

4 Of which, twenty and four thousand were to set forward the work of the house of the LORD; and six thousand were officers and judges: 

5 Moreover four thousand were porters; and four thousand praised the LORD with the instruments which I made, said David , to praise therewith . 

6 And David divided them into courses among the sons of Levi, namely , Gershon, Kohath, and Merari. 

7 Of the Gershonites were , Laadan, and Shimei. 

8 The sons of Laadan; the chief was Jehiel, and Zetham, and Joel, three. 

9 The sons of Shimei; Shelomith, and Haziel, and Haran, three. These were the chief of the fathers of Laadan. 

10 And the sons of Shimei were , Jahath, Zina, and Jeush, and Beriah. These four were the sons of Shimei. 

11 And Jahath was the chief, and Zizah the second: but Jeush and Beriah had not many sons; therefore they were in one reckoning, according to their father' house. 

12 The sons of Kohath; Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel, four. 

13 The sons of Amram; Aaron and Moses: and Aaron was separated, that he should sanctify the most holy things, he and his sons for ever, to burn incense before the LORD, to minister unto him, and to bless in his name for ever. 

14 Now concerning Moses the man of God, his sons were named of the tribe of Levi. 

15 The sons of Moses were , Gershom, and Eliezer. 

16 Of the sons of Gershom, Shebuel was the chief. 

17 And the sons of Eliezer were , Rehabiah the chief. And Eliezer had none other sons; but the sons of Rehabiah were very many. 

18 Of the sons of Izhar; Shelomith the chief. 

19 Of the sons of Hebron; Jeriah the first, Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third, and Jekameam the fourth. 

20 Of the sons of Uzziel; Michah the first, and Jesiah the second. 

21 The sons of Merari; Mahli, and Mushi. The sons of Mahli; Eleazar, and Kish. 

22 And Eleazar died, and had no sons, but daughters: and their brethren the sons of Kish took them. 

23 The sons of Mushi; Mahli, and Eder, and Jeremoth, three. 

24 These were the sons of Levi after the house of their fathers; even the chief of the fathers, as they were counted by number of names by their polls, that did the work for the service of the house of the LORD, from the age of twenty years and upward. 

25 For David said, The LORD God of Israel hath given rest unto his people, that they may dwell in Jerusalem for ever: 

26 And also unto the Levites; they shall no more carry the tabernacle, nor any vessels of it for the service thereof. 

27 For by the last words of David the Levites were numbered from twenty years old and above: 

28 Because their office was to wait on the sons of Aaron for the service of the house of the LORD, in the courts, and in the chambers, and in the purifying of all holy things, and the work of the service of the house of God; 

29 Both for the shewbread, and for the fine flour for meat offering, and for the unleavened cakes, and for that which is baked in the pan, and for that which is fried, and for all manner of measure and size; 

30 And to stand every morning to thank and praise the LORD, and likewise at even; 

31 And to offer all burnt sacrifices unto the LORD in the sabbaths, in the new moons, and on the set feasts, by number, according to the order commanded unto them, continually before the LORD: 

32 And that they should keep the charge of the tabernacle of the congregation, and the charge of the holy place , and the charge of the sons of Aaron their brethren, in the service of the house of the LORD.
