1 To the chief Musician upon Gittith, A Psalm of David. O LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy glory above the heavens. 2 Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger. 3 When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; 4 What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him? 5 For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour. 6 Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet: 7 All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field; 8 The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas. 9 O LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!

1 Dem Chorleiter. Schwungvoll begleiten! Ein Psalmlied von David. 2 Jahwe, du unser Herr, / wie herrlich ist dein Name überall auf der Welt! / Über den Himmel breitest du deine Hoheit aus, 3 und aus dem Mund von Kindern und Säuglingen schaffst du dir Lob,^[1] / ein Bollwerk, das deine Gegner beschämt / und alle Feinde zum Schweigen bringt. 4 Sooft ich den Himmel anschaue, das Werk deiner Hand, / den Mond und die Sterne, die du gemacht hast: 5 Was ist da der Mensch, dass du an ihn denkst, / der Adamssohn, dass du Acht auf ihn hast? 6 Du hast ihn nur wenig unter die Engel^[2] gestellt / und krönst ihn mit Ehre und Pracht. (Heb 2:7) 7 Du lässt ihn herrschen über alles, / was durch deine Hände entstand:^[3] (1Co 15:27; Heb 2:6) 8 über Schafe und Rinder / und auch die wilden Tiere im Feld, 9 die Vögel in der Luft, / die Fische im Meer / und alles, was die Meere durchzieht. 10 Jahwe, du unser Herr, / wie herrlich ist dein Name überall auf der Welt!

Grandeur de Dieu et de l’homme

1 Au chef de chœur. Un psaume de David, (à chanter avec accompagnement) de la harpe de Gath^[1]. (Ps 81:1; Ps 84:1) 2 Eternel, notre Seigneur, que ta gloire est admirable ╵sur la terre tout entière! Au-dessus du ciel, ╵on célèbre ta splendeur^[2]. 3 De la bouche des petits enfants ╵et des nourrissons, tu fais jaillir la louange^[3] ╵à l’encontre de tes adversaires, pour imposer le silence ╵à l’ennemi plein de hargne. (Mt 21:16) 4 Quand je contemple le ciel ╵que tes doigts ont façonné, les étoiles et la lune ╵que tes mains ont disposées, 5 je me dis: Qu’est-ce que l’homme, ╵pour que tu en prennes soin, et qu’est-ce qu’un être humain ╵pour qu’à lui tu t’intéresses^[4]?
