And they kept it close, and told no man in those days any of those things which they had seen.37And it came to pass, that on the next day, when they were come down from the hill, much people met him.38And, behold, a man of the company cried out, saying, Master, I beseech thee, look upon my son: for he is mine only child.39And, lo, a spirit taketh him, and he suddenly crieth out; and it teareth him that he foameth again, and bruising him hardly departeth from him.40And I besought thy disciples to cast him out; and they could not.41And Jesus answering said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you, and suffer you? Bring thy son hither.42And as he was yet a coming, the devil threw him down, and tare him. And Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and healed the child, and delivered him again to his father.43And they were all amazed at the mighty power of God. But while they wondered every one at all things which Jesus did, he said unto his disciples,44Let these sayings sink down into your ears: for the Son of man shall be delivered into the hands of men.45But they understood not this saying, and it was hid from them, that they perceived it not: and they feared to ask him of that saying.46Then there arose a reasoning among them, which of them should be greatest.47And Jesus, perceiving the thought of their heart, took a child, and set him by him,48And said unto them, Whosoever shall receive this child in my name receiveth me: and whosoever shall receive me receiveth him that sent me: for he that is least among you all, the same shall be great.49And John answered and said, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name; and we forbad him, because he followeth not with us.50And Jesus said unto him, Forbid him not: for he that is not against us is for us.51And it came to pass, when the time was come that he should be received up, he stedfastly set his face to go to Jerusalem,52And sent messengers before his face: and they went, and entered into a village of the Samaritans, to make ready for him.53And they did not receive him, because his face was as though he would go to Jerusalem.54And when his disciples James and John saw this, they said, Lord, wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven, and consume them, even as Elias did?55But he turned, and rebuked them, and said, Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of.56For the Son of man is not come to destroy men's lives, but to save them. And they went to another village.57And it came to pass, that, as they went in the way, a certain man said unto him, Lord, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest.58And Jesus said unto him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.59And he said unto another, Follow me. But he said, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father.60Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou and preach the kingdom of God.61And another also said, Lord, I will follow thee; but let me first go bid them farewell, which are at home at my house.62And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.
1Jesus rief die Zwölf zusammen und gab ihnen Kraft und Vollmacht, alle bösen Geister auszutreiben und Krankheiten zu heilen.2Er beauftragte sie, die Botschaft von Gottes Herrschaft zu verkündigen und die Kranken gesund zu machen.3„Nehmt nichts mit auf den Weg“, sagte er ihnen, „keinen Wanderstab, keine Vorratstasche, kein Brot, kein Geld und auch nicht zwei Hemden!4Wenn ihr in ein Haus aufgenommen werdet, dann bleibt dort, bis ihr den Ort wieder verlasst.5Und wenn ihr in einen Ort kommt, wo die Leute euch nicht aufnehmen wollen, dann zieht gleich weiter und schüttelt den Staub von euren Füßen ab. Zeigt ihnen so, dass ihr sie nur noch dem Urteil Gottes überlasst.“6Die Zwölf machten sich auf den Weg und zogen von Dorf zu Dorf. Sie verkündigten die Freudenbotschaft und heilten die Kranken.
Herodes fragt nach Jesus
7Herodes Antipas, der Fürst von Galiläa,[1] hörte von diesen Dingen. Er wusste nicht, was er davon halten sollte. Denn die einen sagten: „Johannes der Täufer ist von den Toten auferweckt worden“,8andere meinten: „Elija ist wieder erschienen.“ Wieder andere sagten: „Einer der früheren Propheten ist auferstanden.“9Herodes sagte: „Johannes habe ich enthaupten lassen. Aber wer ist das, von dem ich solche Dinge höre?“ Deshalb wollte er ihn unbedingt sehen.
Fünftausend Menschen werden satt
10Die Apostel kamen dann wieder zu Jesus zurück und berichteten ihm alles, was sie getan hatten. Da nahm er sie mit und zog sich mit ihnen allein in die Nähe der Stadt Betsaida[2] zurück.11Als die Leute das merkten, folgten sie ihm in Scharen. Jesus wies die Menschen nicht ab, sondern redete zu ihnen über das Reich Gottes. Und alle, die Heilung brauchten, machte er gesund.12Als es auf den Abend zuging, kamen die Zwölf zu ihm und sagten: „Schick die Leute weg, damit sie sich in den umliegenden Bauernhöfen und Dörfern etwas zu essen kaufen und übernachten können, denn wir sind hier an einem einsamen Fleck.“13Aber Jesus erwiderte: „Gebt ihr ihnen doch zu essen!“ – „Wir haben aber nicht mehr als fünf Fladenbrote und zwei Fische“, entgegneten sie. „Sollen wir wirklich losgehen und für dieses ganze Volk Essen kaufen?“14Es waren etwa 5000 Männer dort. Jesus sagte zu seinen Jüngern: „Sorgt dafür, dass die Leute sich in Fünfziger-Gruppen hinsetzen!“15Das taten die Jünger. Und als sich alle gesetzt hatten,16nahm Jesus die fünf Brote und die zwei Fische in die Hand. Er blickte zum Himmel auf, sprach den Segen darüber, brach die Fladenbrote und gab alles den Jüngern, damit sie es an die Leute austeilten.17Und alle aßen sich satt. Sie füllten sogar noch zwölf Körbe mit den Resten, die von den Brotstücken übrig geblieben waren.
Jesus ist der Messias
18Einmal hatte Jesus sich zum Gebet zurückgezogen, und nur seine Jünger waren bei ihm. Da fragte er sie: „Für wen halten mich die Leute?“19„Einige halten dich für Johannes den Täufer“, antworteten sie, „andere für Elija, und wieder andere denken, es sei einer der alten Propheten auferstanden.“20„Und ihr“, fragte er weiter, „für wen haltet ihr mich?“ – „Für Gottes Messias“, erwiderte Petrus.21Aber Jesus schärfte ihnen nachdrücklich ein, mit niemand darüber zu reden:22„Der Menschensohn wird vieles erleiden müssen“, sagte er. „Er muss von den Ratsältesten, den Hohen Priestern[3] und den Gesetzeslehrern verworfen werden. Er muss auch getötet und am dritten Tag[4] wieder zum Leben erweckt werden.“23Und zu allen sagte er: „Wenn jemand mein Jünger sein will, dann muss er sich selbst verleugnen, er muss täglich sein Kreuz aufnehmen und mir folgen.24Denn wer sein Leben retten will, wird es verlieren. Wer aber sein Leben meinetwegen verliert, der wird es retten.25Denn was hat ein Mensch davon, wenn er die ganze Welt gewinnt, dabei aber sich selbst verliert oder unheilbaren Schaden nimmt?26Denn wer nicht zu mir und meiner Botschaft steht, zu dem wird auch der Menschensohn nicht stehen, wenn er – begleitet von den heiligen Engeln – in seiner und des Vaters strahlender Herrlichkeit kommt.“27Dann fügte er noch hinzu: „Aber es ist auch wahr: Einige von denen, die hier stehen, werden nicht sterben, bis sie die Gottesherrschaft gesehen haben.“
Die Herrlichkeit des Messias
28Etwa acht Tage, nachdem Jesus das gesagt hatte, nahm er Petrus, Johannes und Jakobus mit und stieg auf einen Berg,[5] um zu beten.29Und als er betete, veränderte sich plötzlich das Aussehen seines Gesichts. Sein Gewand wurde strahlend weiß.30Auf einmal standen zwei Männer dort und sprachen mit ihm. Es waren Mose und Elija.31Auch sie waren von himmlischem Glanz umgeben und redeten mit ihm über das Ende, das er ‹nach Gottes Plan› in Jerusalem nehmen sollte.32Doch Petrus und die zwei anderen Jünger kämpften sehr mit dem Schlaf. Als sie dann aber wieder richtig wach waren, sahen sie Jesus in seiner Herrlichkeit und die zwei Männer bei ihm.33Diese wollten gerade weggehen, da sagte Petrus zu Jesus: „Rabbi, wie gut, dass wir hier sind. Wir wollen drei Hütten bauen: eine für dich, eine für Mose und eine für Elija.“ Doch Petrus wusste selbst nicht, was er da sagte.34Noch während er redete, war der Schatten einer Wolke auf sie gefallen. Und als die Wolke sie dann ganz einhüllte, bekamen sie Angst.35Da sagte eine Stimme aus der Wolke: „Das ist mein Sohn, der Auserwählte. Hört auf ihn!“36Als die Stimme verhallt war, stand Jesus wieder allein da. Die Jünger schwiegen über das, was sie erlebt hatten, und erzählten damals niemand etwas davon.
Die Macht des Messias
37Am nächsten Tag, als sie wieder vom Berg herabgestiegen waren, kam ihnen eine große Menschenmenge entgegen.38Einer aus der Menge rief: „Rabbi, ich bitte dich, sieh nach meinem Sohn. Er ist mein einziges Kind.39Immer wieder wird er von einem bösen Geist gepackt. Dann schreit er plötzlich auf, wird von dem Geist hin und her gezerrt und hat Schaum vor dem Mund. Der Geist lässt ihn kaum wieder los und richtet ihn noch ganz zugrunde.40Ich habe deine Jünger gebeten, ihn auszutreiben, aber sie konnten es nicht.“41„Was seid ihr nur für ein ungläubiges und verkehrtes Geschlecht!“, sagte Jesus zu ihnen. „Wie lange muss ich denn noch bei euch sein und euch ertragen? Bring deinen Sohn her!“42Als der Junge in die Nähe von Jesus kam, warf der Dämon ihn zu Boden und schüttelte ihn mit heftigen Krämpfen. Jesus bedrohte den bösen Geist, heilte den Jungen und gab ihn seinem Vater zurück.43Alle waren überwältigt von der herrlichen Macht Gottes. Und während die Leute sich noch über alle seine Taten wunderten, sagte Jesus zu seinen Jüngern:44„Merkt euch gut, was ich jetzt sage: Der Menschensohn wird bald in der Gewalt von Menschen sein.“45Doch sie konnten den Sinn seiner Worte nicht verstehen, er blieb ihnen verborgen. Sie begriffen ihn nicht, wagten aber auch nicht, Jesus danach zu fragen.
Jünger müssen viel lernen
46Unter den Jüngern kam aber die Frage auf, wer wohl der Größte von ihnen sei.47Jesus wusste, was in ihnen vorging. Er nahm ein Kind, stellte es neben sich48und sagte zu ihnen: „Wer dieses Kind in meinem Namen aufnimmt, nimmt mich auf; und wer mich aufnimmt, nimmt den auf, der mich gesandt hat. Wer also der Geringste unter euch ist, der ist wirklich groß.“49Darauf sagte Johannes zu ihm: „Rabbi, wir haben gesehen, wie jemand in deinem Namen Dämonen ausgetrieben hat, und wir haben versucht, ihn daran zu hindern, weil er nicht zu uns, ‹deinen› Nachfolgern, gehört.“50„Lasst ihn doch!“, sagte Jesus. „Denn wer nicht gegen euch ist, ist für euch.“
Unterwegs in Samarien
51Als die Tage näher kamen, an denen Jesus in den Himmel zurückkehren sollte, machte er sich entschlossen auf den Weg nach Jerusalem.52Er schickte Boten voraus. Diese kamen in ein Dorf in Samarien[6] und wollten eine Unterkunft für ihn vorbereiten.53Doch weil Jesus nach Jerusalem ziehen wollte nahm ihn keiner dort auf.54Als die beiden Jünger Jakobus und Johannes das hörten, sagten sie zu Jesus: „Herr, sollen wir befehlen, dass Feuer vom Himmel fällt und sie vernichtet?“55Doch Jesus drehte sich zu ihnen um und wies sie streng zurecht.56Sie übernachteten dann in einem anderen Dorf.57Als sie weiterzogen, wurde Jesus von einem Mann angesprochen: „Ich will dir folgen, wohin du auch gehst“, sagte er.58Doch Jesus entgegnete ihm: „Die Füchse haben ihren Bau und die Vögel haben ihre Nester, aber der Menschensohn hat keinen Platz, wo er sich ausruhen kann.“59Zu einem anderen sagte Jesus: „Komm, folge mir!“ Doch der antwortete: „Herr, erlaube mir, zuerst nach Hause zu gehen und meinen Vater zu begraben.“60„Lass die Toten ihre Toten begraben!“, entgegnete ihm Jesus. „Deine Aufgabe ist es, die Botschaft vom Reich Gottes zu verkündigen.“61Wieder ein anderer sagte: „Herr, ich will ja gerne mit dir gehen, aber erlaube mir doch, erst noch von meiner Familie Abschied zu nehmen.“62Doch Jesus sagte: „Wer seine Hand an den Pflug legt und dann nach hinten sieht, der ist für das Reich Gottes nicht brauchbar.“

Ils allaient de village en village. Partout, ils annonçaient la Bonne Nouvelle de l’Evangile et guérissaient les malades.
Hérode est intrigué
7Hérode, le gouverneur de la province, apprit tout ce qui se passait. Il était embarrassé. En effet, certains disaient: C’est Jean-Baptiste qui est ressuscité! (Mt 14:1; Mr 6:14)8D’autres disaient: C’est Elie qui a reparu. D’autres encore: C’est un des prophètes d’autrefois qui est revenu à la vie.9Mais Hérode se disait: Jean? Je l’ai moi-même fait décapiter. Mais alors, qui est cet homme dont j’entends dire de si grandes choses? Et il cherchait à le rencontrer.
Avec cinq pains et deux poissons
10Les apôtres revinrent et racontèrent à Jésus tout ce qu’ils avaient fait. Il les prit alors avec lui et se retira à l’écart, du côté de la ville de Bethsaïda[2]. (Mt 14:13; Mr 6:33; Joh 6:1)11Mais les foules s’en aperçurent et le suivirent. Jésus leur fit bon accueil, il leur parla du royaume de Dieu et guérit ceux qui en avaient besoin.12Le jour commençait à baisser. Alors les Douze s’approchèrent de lui et lui dirent: Renvoie ces gens pour qu’ils aillent dans les villages et les hameaux des environs, où ils trouveront de quoi se loger et se ravitailler, car nous sommes ici dans un endroit désert.13Mais Jésus leur dit: Donnez-leur vous-mêmes à manger! – Mais, répondirent-ils, nous n’avons pas plus de cinq pains et deux poissons. Ou alors faut-il que nous allions acheter de la nourriture pour tout ce monde?14Car il y avait bien là cinq mille hommes. Jésus dit à ses disciples: Faites-les asseoir par groupes d’une cinquantaine de personnes.15C’est ce qu’ils firent, et ils installèrent ainsi tout le monde.16Alors Jésus prit les cinq pains et les deux poissons, il leva les yeux vers le ciel et prononça la prière de bénédiction; puis il les partagea et donna les morceaux à ses disciples pour qu’ils les distribuent à la foule.17Tout le monde mangea à satiété. On ramassa les morceaux qui restaient; cela faisait douze paniers.
Qui est vraiment Jésus ?
18Un jour, Jésus priait à l’écart, et ses disciples étaient avec lui. Alors il les interrogea: Que disent les foules à mon sujet? Qui suis-je d’après elles? (Mt 16:13; Mr 8:27)19Ils lui répondirent: Pour les uns, tu es Jean-Baptiste; pour d’autres, Elie; pour d’autres encore, l’un des prophètes d’autrefois qui serait ressuscité.20– Et vous, leur demanda-t-il, qui dites-vous que je suis? Pierre prit la parole et dit: Le Messie, envoyé par Dieu.21Jésus leur ordonna formellement de ne le dire à personne.22Et il ajouta: Il faut que le Fils de l’homme souffre beaucoup et soit rejeté par les responsables du peuple, les chefs des prêtres et les spécialistes de la Loi; il doit être mis à mort et ressusciter le troisième jour.
Comment suivre Jésus
23Puis, s’adressant à tous, il dit: Si quelqu’un veut me suivre, qu’il renonce à lui-même, qu’il se charge chaque jour de sa croix, et qu’il me suive. (Mt 16:24; Mr 8:34)24En effet, celui qui est préoccupé de sauver sa vie, la perdra; mais celui qui perdra sa vie à cause de moi la sauvera.25Si un homme parvient à posséder le monde entier, à quoi cela lui sert-il s’il se perd ou se détruit lui-même?26Si quelqu’un a honte de moi et de mes paroles, le Fils de l’homme, à son tour, aura honte de lui quand il viendra dans sa gloire, dans celle du Père et des saints anges.27Je vous l’assure, quelques-uns de ceux qui sont ici présents ne mourront pas avant d’avoir vu le règne de Dieu.
La révélation du royaume
28Environ huit jours après cet entretien, Jésus prit avec lui Pierre, Jean et Jacques et monta sur une montagne pour aller prier. (Mt 17:1; Mr 9:2)29Pendant qu’il priait, son visage changea d’aspect et ses vêtements devinrent d’une blancheur éblouissante.30Deux hommes s’entretenaient avec lui: Moïse et Elie[3]31qui resplendissaient de gloire. Ils parlaient de la manière dont Jésus allait achever sa mission[4] en mourant à Jérusalem.32Pierre et ses compagnons étaient profondément endormis, mais quand ils s’éveillèrent[5], ils virent la gloire de Jésus et les deux hommes qui étaient avec lui.33Au moment où ces hommes se séparaient de Jésus, Pierre lui dit: Maître, il est bon que nous soyons ici. Nous allons dresser trois tentes, une pour toi, une pour Moïse et une pour Elie. En fait, il ne savait pas ce qu’il disait.34Pendant qu’il parlait encore, une nuée se forma et les enveloppa, et les disciples furent saisis de crainte lorsqu’ils entrèrent dans la nuée.35Une voix sortit de la nuée, qui disait: Celui-ci est mon Fils, celui que j’ai choisi. Ecoutez-le!36Quand cette voix eut retenti, ils ne trouvèrent plus que Jésus. Quant à eux, à cette époque, ils gardèrent le silence sur cet événement et ne racontèrent à personne ce qu’ils avaient vu.
La guérison d’un enfant habité par un démon
37Le lendemain, comme ils descendaient de la montagne, une grande foule vint à la rencontre de Jésus. (Mt 17:14; Mr 9:14)38Du milieu de cette foule, un homme s’écria: Maître, je t’en supplie: regarde mon fils! C’est mon enfant unique.39Un esprit s’empare de lui, le fait crier tout à coup, l’agite convulsivement et le fait baver; et il ne le quitte que difficilement, en le laissant tout meurtri.40J’ai prié tes disciples de le chasser, mais ils n’y ont pas réussi.41Jésus s’exclama alors: Gens incrédules et infidèles à Dieu! Jusqu’à quand devrai-je encore rester avec vous et vous supporter? Puis, s’adressant à l’homme: Amène ton fils ici!42Pendant que l’enfant s’approchait, le démon le jeta par terre et l’agita de convulsions. Jésus commanda avec sévérité à l’esprit mauvais de sortir, il guérit le jeune garçon et le rendit à son père.
L’annonce de la mort de Jésus
43Tous furent bouleversés devant la grandeur de Dieu. Alors que chacun s’émerveillait encore de tout ce que Jésus faisait, il dit à ses disciples: (Mt 17:22; Mr 9:30)44Retenez bien ce que je vais vous dire maintenant: le Fils de l’homme va être livré aux mains des hommes.45Mais les disciples ne comprenaient pas cette parole. Son sens leur était caché pour qu’ils ne la saisissent pas. Et ils avaient peur de demander des explications à Jésus.
L’accueil des « petits »
46Il s’éleva entre eux une discussion: il s’agissait de savoir lequel était le plus grand parmi eux. (Mt 18:1; Mr 9:33)47Jésus, qui connaissait les pensées qu’ils avaient dans leur cœur, prit un petit enfant par la main, le plaça à côté de lui48et leur dit: Celui qui accueille cet enfant en mon nom m’accueille moi-même, et celui qui m’accueille, accueille aussi celui qui m’a envoyé. Car celui qui est le plus petit parmi vous, c’est celui-là qui est grand. (Mr 9:38)49Jean prit la parole et dit: Maître, nous avons vu quelqu’un qui chassait les démons en ton nom, et nous lui avons dit de ne plus le faire, parce qu’il ne te suit pas avec nous.50– Ne l’en empêchez pas, lui répondit Jésus, car celui qui n’est pas contre vous est pour vous.
L’opposition en Samarie
51Lorsque le temps approcha où Jésus devait être enlevé de ce monde, il décida de manière résolue de se rendre à Jérusalem.52Il envoya devant lui des messagers. En cours de route, ils entrèrent dans un village de la Samarie pour lui préparer un logement.53Mais les Samaritains[6] lui refusèrent l’hospitalité, parce qu’il se rendait à Jérusalem.54En voyant cela, ses disciples Jacques et Jean s’écrièrent: Seigneur, veux-tu que nous commandions à la foudre de tomber du ciel sur ces gens-là, pour les réduire en cendres[7]?55Mais Jésus, se tournant vers eux, les reprit sévèrement: [Vous ne savez pas quel esprit vous inspire de telles pensées!56Le Fils de l’homme n’est pas venu pour faire mourir les hommes, mais pour les sauver[8].] Ils se rendirent alors à un autre village.
L’engagement total du disciple
57Pendant qu’ils étaient en chemin, un homme vint dire à Jésus: Je te suivrai partout où tu iras. (Mt 8:19)58Jésus lui répondit: Les renards ont des tanières et les oiseaux du ciel ont des nids; mais le Fils de l’homme n’a pas d’endroit où reposer sa tête.59Jésus dit à un autre: Suis-moi! Mais cet homme lui dit: Seigneur[9], permets que j’aille d’abord enterrer mon père.60Jésus lui répondit: Laisse à ceux qui sont morts le soin d’enterrer leurs morts. Quant à toi, va proclamer le royaume de Dieu!61Un autre encore lui dit: Je te suivrai, Seigneur, mais permets-moi d’abord de faire mes adieux à ma famille.62Jésus lui répondit: Celui qui regarde derrière lui au moment où il se met à labourer avec sa charrue n’est pas prêt pour le royaume de Dieu.
