1And Joseph was brought down to Egypt; and Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, captain of the guard, an Egyptian, bought him of the hands of the Ishmeelites, which had brought him down thither.2And the LORD was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian.3And his master saw that the LORD was with him, and that the LORD made all that he did to prosper in his hand.4And Joseph found grace in his sight, and he served him: and he made him overseer over his house, and all that he had he put into his hand.5And it came to pass from the time that he had made him overseer in his house, and over all that he had, that the LORD blessed the Egyptian' house for Joseph' sake; and the blessing of the LORD was upon all that he had in the house, and in the field.6And he left all that he had in Joseph' hand; and he knew not ought he had, save the bread which he did eat. And Joseph was a goodly person , and well favoured.7And it came to pass after these things, that his master' wife cast her eyes upon Joseph; and she said, Lie with me.8But he refused, and said unto his master' wife, Behold, my master wotteth not what is with me in the house, and he hath committed all that he hath to my hand;9There is none greater in this house than I; neither hath he kept back any thing from me but thee, because thou art his wife: how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?10And it came to pass, as she spake to Joseph day by day, that he hearkened not unto her, to lie by her, or to be with her.11And it came to pass about this time, that Joseph went into the house to do his business; and there was none of the men of the house there within.12And she caught him by his garment, saying, Lie with me: and he left his garment in her hand, and fled, and got him out.13And it came to pass, when she saw that he had left his garment in her hand, and was fled forth,14That she called unto the men of her house, and spake unto them, saying, See, he hath brought in an Hebrew unto us to mock us; he came in unto me to lie with me, and I cried with a loud voice:15And it came to pass, when he heard that I lifted up my voice and cried, that he left his garment with me, and fled, and got him out.16And she laid up his garment by her, until his lord came home.17And she spake unto him according to these words, saying, The Hebrew servant, which thou hast brought unto us, came in unto me to mock me:18And it came to pass, as I lifted up my voice and cried, that he left his garment with me, and fled out.19And it came to pass, when his master heard the words of his wife, which she spake unto him, saying, After this manner did thy servant to me; that his wrath was kindled.20And Joseph' master took him, and put him into the prison, a place where the king' prisoners were bound: and he was there in the prison.21But the LORD was with Joseph, and shewed him mercy, and gave him favour in the sight of the keeper of the prison.22And the keeper of the prison committed to Joseph' hand all the prisoners that were in the prison; and whatsoever they did there, he was the doer of it .23The keeper of the prison looked not to any thing that was under his hand; because the LORD was with him, and that which he did, the LORD made it to prosper.
1Josef war von den Ismaëliten nach Ägypten gebracht worden. Sie verkauften ihn an einen ägyptischen Hofbeamten des Pharao namens Potifar. Er war der Befehlshaber der Leibwache.2Doch Jahwe stand Josef bei, sodass ihm alles gelang, was er tat. Er durfte sogar im Haus seines ägyptischen Herrn bleiben.3Und weil der Ägypter sah, dass Jahwe Josef beistand und ihm alles gelingen ließ,4schenkte er ihm seine Gunst und machte ihn zu seinem persönlichen Diener. Er übergab ihm die Aufsicht über sein Haus und vertraute ihm die Verwaltung seines ganzen Besitzes an.5Und von diesem Zeitpunkt an segnete Jahwe das Haus des Ägypters. Wegen Josef ruhte der Segen Jahwes auf allem, was er besaß, im Haus und auf dem Feld.6So überließ Potifar Josef alles, was er hatte, und kümmerte sich um nichts mehr, außer um sein eigenes Essen.
Doch Josef war ein außergewöhnlich schöner Mann.7So kam es, dass die Frau seines Herrn ein Auge auf ihn warf. „Schlaf mit mir!“, sagte sie zu ihm.8Doch er weigerte sich und erwiderte: „Sieh doch, mein Herr verlässt sich auf mich. Er kümmert sich um nichts mehr, seit ich in seinem Haus bin, und hat mir alles anvertraut, was ihm gehört.9In diesem Haus gilt er nicht mehr als ich. Nichts hat er mir vorenthalten als nur dich, seine Frau. Wie könnte ich da ein so großes Unrecht begehen! Ich würde mich an Gott versündigen!“10Obwohl sie Tag für Tag auf Josef einredete, mit ihr zu schlafen und ihr zu Willen zu sein, hörte er nicht auf sie.11Einmal hatte Josef im Haus zu tun, und niemand von der Dienerschaft war dort.12Da fasste sie ihn am Gewand. „Komm mit mir ins Bett!“, drängte sie. Doch er riss sich los und flüchtete hinaus. Das Gewand blieb in ihrer Hand zurück.13Als ihr bewusst wurde, dass er fort war, aber sein Gewand in ihrer Hand zurückgelassen hatte,14rief sie die Dienerschaft herbei und sagte: „Seht euch das an! Er hat uns diesen Hebräer ins Haus gebracht, der nun seinen Mutwillen mit uns treibt! Er ist zu mir gekommen und wollte mit mir schlafen. Da habe ich laut geschrien.15Als er meinen Aufschrei hörte, ließ er sein Gewand bei mir liegen und rannte hinaus.“16Sie ließ Josefs Gewand neben sich liegen, bis sein Herr nach Hause kam.17Ihm erzählte sie dieselbe Geschichte: „Der hebräische Sklave, den du uns ins Haus gebracht hast, ist zu mir gekommen, um seinen Mutwillen mit mir zu treiben.18Als ich zu schreien anfing, ließ er sein Gewand neben mir liegen und rannte hinaus.“19Als Potifar hörte, was sie seinem Sklaven vorwarf, packte ihn der Zorn.20Er ließ Josef ergreifen und in das Gefängnis bringen, in dem die Gefangenen des Königs verwahrt wurden.
Josef im Gefängnis
21Aber Jahwe in seiner Treue stand Josef bei. Er sorgte dafür, dass der Gefängnisverwalter ihm sein Wohlwollen schenkte.22Er übertrug Josef die Aufsicht über alle Gefangenen und alles, was man dort zu tun hatte.23Der Gefängnisverwalter vertraute ihm völlig und gab ihm freie Hand, denn Jahwe stand Josef bei und ließ ihm alles gelingen, was er unternahm.
1Joseph, arrivé en Egypte, avait donc été acheté aux Ismaélites qui l’avaient conduit là-bas, par Potiphar, haut fonctionnaire du pharaon, chef de la garde royale.2L’Eternel fut avec Joseph[1], de sorte qu’il réussissait ce qu’il entreprenait. Il demeurait dans la maison de son maître égyptien. (Ac 7:9)3Celui-ci remarqua que l’Eternel était avec Joseph et faisait prospérer tout ce qu’il entreprenait.4Ainsi Joseph obtint la faveur de son maître qui l’attacha à son service personnel: il l’établit comme intendant sur sa maison et lui confia la gérance de tous ses biens.5A partir de ce moment-là, l’Eternel bénit la maison de l’Egyptien à cause de Joseph. Sa bénédiction reposait sur tout ce qu’il possédait, dans sa maison comme aux champs.
Victime de la femme de Potiphar
6Alors Potiphar laissa tout ce qui lui appartenait entre les mains de Joseph – ne s’occupant plus de rien – sauf de ses repas. Joseph était un bel homme ayant un beau visage.7Après ces événements, la femme de son maître porta les yeux sur lui et lui dit: Couche avec moi!8Mais il refusa et dit à la femme de son maître: Mon maître ne me demande compte de rien dans la maison, il m’a confié tous ses biens.9Lui-même n’a pas plus d’autorité que moi ici et il ne m’a rien interdit – excepté toi, parce que tu es sa femme. Comment commettrais-je un acte aussi mauvais et pécherais-je contre Dieu?10Jour après jour, elle revenait à la charge; mais Joseph ne voulait pas l’écouter, refusant de coucher à côté d’elle et d’être avec elle.11Un certain jour, Joseph était entré dans la maison pour faire son travail. Aucun domestique ne se trouvait là.12Alors elle l’agrippa par son vêtement en disant: Couche avec moi! Mais il lui abandonna son vêtement entre les mains, et s’enfuit dehors.13Quand elle vit qu’il s’était enfui dehors en lui laissant son vêtement entre les mains,14elle se mit à crier pour appeler ses domestiques, puis elle leur dit: Voyez cela! Il nous a amené un Hébreu pour se jouer de nous. Il est venu vers moi pour coucher avec moi. Mais j’ai crié très fort.15Quand il a entendu que je poussais des cris pour appeler à l’aide, il a abandonné son vêtement à côté de moi et s’est enfui dehors.16Elle garda le vêtement de Joseph à côté d’elle jusqu’au retour de son mari à la maison.17Alors elle lui raconta la même histoire: L’esclave hébreu que tu nous as amené, dit-elle, est venu vers moi pour se jouer de moi.18Mais quand je me suis mise à crier pour appeler au secours, il a abandonné son vêtement à côté de moi et s’est enfui dehors.19Quand le maître de Joseph entendit le récit de sa femme qui lui disait: « Voilà comment ton serviteur s’est comporté envers moi », il se mit dans une grande colère.
En prison
20Il fit saisir Joseph pour le jeter dans la maison d’arrêt où étaient détenus les prisonniers du roi. Ainsi Joseph demeura dans la prison.21Mais l’Eternel fut avec lui et lui témoigna sa bonté: il lui fit gagner la faveur du commandant de la prison.22Celui-ci lui confia le soin de tous les détenus qui se trouvaient dans la prison et la direction de tout ce qu’on y faisait.23Il ne s’occupait plus de rien de ce qui passait par la main de Joseph, parce que l’Eternel était avec lui et faisait réussir ce qu’il entreprenait.
