1And there came two angels to Sodom at even; and Lot sat in the gate of Sodom: and Lot seeing them rose up to meet them; and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground;2And he said, Behold now, my lords, turn in, I pray you, into your servant' house, and tarry all night, and wash your feet, and ye shall rise up early, and go on your ways. And they said, Nay; but we will abide in the street all night.3And he pressed upon them greatly; and they turned in unto him, and entered into his house; and he made them a feast, and did bake unleavened bread, and they did eat.4But before they lay down, the men of the city, even the men of Sodom, compassed the house round, both old and young, all the people from every quarter:5And they called unto Lot, and said unto him, Where are the men which came in to thee this night? bring them out unto us, that we may know them.6And Lot went out at the door unto them, and shut the door after him,7And said, I pray you, brethren, do not so wickedly.8Behold now, I have two daughters which have not known man; let me, I pray you, bring them out unto you, and do ye to them as is good in your eyes: only unto these men do nothing; for therefore came they under the shadow of my roof.9And they said, Stand back. And they said again , This one fellow came in to sojourn, and he will needs be a judge: now will we deal worse with thee, than with them. And they pressed sore upon the man, even Lot, and came near to break the door.10But the men put forth their hand, and pulled Lot into the house to them, and shut to the door.11And they smote the men that were at the door of the house with blindness, both small and great: so that they wearied themselves to find the door.12And the men said unto Lot, Hast thou here any besides? son in law, and thy sons, and thy daughters, and whatsoever thou hast in the city, bring them out of this place:13For we will destroy this place, because the cry of them is waxen great before the face of the LORD; and the LORD hath sent us to destroy it.14And Lot went out, and spake unto his sons in law, which married his daughters, and said, Up, get you out of this place; for the LORD will destroy this city. But he seemed as one that mocked unto his sons in law.15And when the morning arose, then the angels hastened Lot, saying, Arise, take thy wife, and thy two daughters, which are here; lest thou be consumed in the iniquity of the city.16And while he lingered, the men laid hold upon his hand, and upon the hand of his wife, and upon the hand of his two daughters; the LORD being merciful unto him: and they brought him forth, and set him without the city.17And it came to pass, when they had brought them forth abroad, that he said, Escape for thy life; look not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the plain; escape to the mountain, lest thou be consumed.18And Lot said unto them, Oh, not so, my Lord:19Behold now, thy servant hath found grace in thy sight, and thou hast magnified thy mercy, which thou hast shewed unto me in saving my life; and I cannot escape to the mountain, lest some evil take me, and I die:20Behold now, this city is near to flee unto, and it is a little one: Oh, let me escape thither, ( is it not a little one?) and my soul shall live.21And he said unto him, See, I have accepted thee concerning this thing also, that I will not overthrow this city, for the which thou hast spoken.22Haste thee, escape thither; for I cannot do any thing till thou be come thither. Therefore the name of the city was called Zoar.23The sun was risen upon the earth when Lot entered into Zoar.24Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven;25And he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground.26But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.27And Abraham gat up early in the morning to the place where he stood before the LORD:28And he looked toward Sodom and Gomorrah, and toward all the land of the plain, and beheld, and, lo, the smoke of the country went up as the smoke of a furnace.29And it came to pass, when God destroyed the cities of the plain, that God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, when he overthrew the cities in the which Lot dwelt.30And Lot went up out of Zoar, and dwelt in the mountain, and his two daughters with him; for he feared to dwell in Zoar: and he dwelt in a cave, he and his two daughters.31And the firstborn said unto the younger, Our father is old, and there is not a man in the earth to come in unto us after the manner of all the earth:32Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father.33And they made their father drink wine that night: and the firstborn went in, and lay with her father; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose.34And it came to pass on the morrow, that the firstborn said unto the younger, Behold, I lay yesternight with my father: let us make him drink wine this night also; and go thou in, and lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father.35And they made their father drink wine that night also: and the younger arose, and lay with him; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose.36Thus were both the daughters of Lot with child by their father.37And the firstborn bare a son, and called his name Moab: the same is the father of the Moabites unto this day.38And the younger, she also bare a son, and called his name Benammi: the same is the father of the children of Ammon unto this day.
1Am Abend trafen die beiden Gottesboten in Sodom ein. Lot saß gerade im Tor[1] der Stadt. Als er sie kommen sah, ging er ihnen entgegen und verneigte sich tief.2„Meine Herren“, sagte er, „ich bin euer Diener. Mein Haus steht euch offen. Ihr könnt eure Füße waschen und bei mir übernachten. Und morgen früh könnt ihr weiterziehen.“ – „Nein, auf keinen Fall!“, erwiderten sie. „Wir wollen hier auf dem Platz übernachten.“3Er redete ihnen aber so lange zu, bis sie in sein Haus mitkamen. Dann machte er ihnen etwas zu essen und backte ungesäuertes Fladenbrot für sie. Nach der Mahlzeit4wollten sie sich gerade niederlegen, da kamen die Männer von Sodom herbei und umstellten das Haus. Es waren alle Männer der Stadt, alte und junge.5Sie schrien nach Lot und riefen: „Wo sind die Männer, die heute Abend zu dir gekommen sind? Los, gib sie heraus! Wir wollen es ihnen besorgen!“[2]6Da trat Lot vor die Tür und schloss sie hinter sich zu.7„Ach, meine Brüder!“, rief er. „Tut doch nicht so etwas Böses!8Seht, ich habe zwei Töchter, die noch kein Mann berührt hat; die will ich zu euch herausbringen. Macht mit ihnen, was ihr wollt, aber tut diesen Männern nichts. Sie sind meine Gäste und stehen unter meinem Schutz.“9Doch sie schrien: „Weg mit dir! Da kommt dieser Fremde hierher und spielt sich schon als Richter auf! Pass mal auf, wir werden es mit dir noch schlimmer treiben als mit denen!“ Sie fielen über Lot her und versuchten, die Tür aufzubrechen.10Da zogen die beiden Männer Lot zurück ins Haus und verschlossen die Tür.11Und all die Männer draußen schlugen sie mit Blindheit, sodass diese es schließlich aufgaben, den Eingang zu suchen.12Die Männer sagten zu Lot: „Hast du noch andere Verwandte hier – einen Schwiegersohn, Söhne, Töchter? Wer auch immer zu dir gehört, schaff sie aus der Stadt hinaus!13Denn wir werden diesen Ort vernichten. Dazu hat Jahwe uns nämlich geschickt, denn er hat schwere Klagen über seine Bewohner gehört.“14Da ging Lot zu seinen künftigen Schwiegersöhnen[3] und sagte: „Schnell, ihr müsst diese Stadt verlassen! Jahwe wird den Ort vernichten!“ Aber sie nahmen ihn nicht ernst, sie dachten nur, er mache Spaß.15Im Morgengrauen drängten die Männer Lot zur Eile: „Schnell, nimm deine Frau und deine beiden Töchter hier, sonst wird die Schuld der Stadt auch euch umbringen!“16Als er immer noch zögerte, packten die Männer Lot bei der Hand, dazu seine Frau und seine Töchter, und führten ihn aus dem Ort. Erst draußen ließen sie ihn wieder los, weil Jahwe ihn verschonen wollte.17Als sie dann auf dem freien Feld waren, sagte er: „Lauf, so schnell du kannst! Es geht um dein Leben! Bleib nicht stehen und schaue dich nicht um! Rette dich aus dem ganzen Umkreis ‹des Jordan› auf die Berge hinauf, sonst bist du verloren!“18Aber Lot sagte: „Ach nein, mein Herr!19Du warst so gnädig zu deinem Diener, und du hast mir die Gunst erwiesen, dass ich am Leben bleiben kann. Aber ich kann nicht auf die Berge fliehen, sonst erreicht mich das Unheil doch noch und ich müsste sterben.20Sieh doch, diese Stadt da ist ganz in der Nähe. Bis dahin könnten wir es schaffen, und sie ist ja nur so klein. Dürfen wir uns nicht dorthin retten, um am Leben zu bleiben? Es ist doch nur eine kleine Stadt.“21„Gut“, sagte er, „auch das will ich dir gewähren. Ich vernichte diese Stadt nicht.22Schnell, rette dich dorthin! Denn ich kann nichts tun, bevor du da bist.“ Deshalb nennt man die Stadt Zoar, Winzig.23Die Sonne ging gerade auf, als Lot nach Zoar kam.24Da ließ Jahwe Feuer und Schwefel auf Sodom und Gomorra regnen. Es kam von Jahwe aus dem Himmel25und verwüstete die Städte und den ganzen Umkreis ‹des Jordan›. Alle Menschen dort kamen um, und alles, was auf den Feldern wuchs, wurde vernichtet.26Lots Frau aber hatte sich hinter seinem Rücken umgeschaut und war zu einer Salzsäule erstarrt.27Früh am nächsten Morgen ging Abraham wieder an die Stelle, wo er vor Jahwe gestanden hatte,28und schaute auf den ganzen Umkreis von Sodom und Gomorra herab. Da sah er eine Rauchwolke vom Land aufsteigen wie von einem Schmelzofen.29Aber Gott hatte an Abraham gedacht, als er die Städte im Umkreis ‹des Jordan› vernichtete. Er sorgte dafür, dass Lot, der mitten in diesen Städten gewohnt hatte, der Katastrophe entging.
Lot und seine Töchter
30Aber Lot hatte Angst, in Zoar zu bleiben. Deshalb zog er mit seinen beiden Töchtern ins Gebirge und wohnte in einer Höhle.31Eines Tages sagte die ältere Tochter zur jüngeren: „Unser Vater ist alt, und es gibt weit und breit keinen Mann, der mit uns schlafen könnte, wie es in aller Welt geschieht.32Komm, wir geben unserem Vater Wein zu trinken und legen uns dann zu ihm, damit wir von ihm Kinder bekommen.“33Noch am selben Abend machten sie ihren Vater betrunken. Dann legte sich die Ältere zu ihm. Doch ihr Vater merkte nichts davon, weder wie sie zu ihm kam noch wie sie von ihm aufstand.34Am Morgen sagte sie zu ihrer Schwester: „Siehst du, ich habe heute Nacht mit unserem Vater geschlafen. Wir wollen ihn auch heute Abend mit Wein betrunken machen, und dann legst du dich zu ihm, damit wir von ihm Kinder bekommen.“35Am Abend machten sie ihren Vater wieder betrunken. Dann legte sich die Jüngere zu ihm. Doch ihr Vater merkte wieder nichts davon, weder wie sie zu ihm kam noch wie sie von ihm aufstand.36So wurden die beiden Töchter Lots von ihrem eigenen Vater schwanger.37Die Ältere bekam einen Sohn und nannte ihn Moab, „Vom Vater“. Er gilt bis heute als der Stammvater der Moabiter.38Als auch die Jüngere einen Sohn bekam, nannte sie ihn Ben-Ammi, „Sohn meiner Leute“. Er gilt bis heute als der Stammvater der Ammoniter.
1Le soir, les deux anges arrivèrent à Sodome. Loth était assis à la porte de la ville. En les voyant, il se leva pour aller à leur rencontre et se prosterna face contre terre.2Il leur dit: S’il vous plaît, mes seigneurs, acceptez de faire un détour et de venir loger dans la maison de votre serviteur. Vous pourrez vous y laver les pieds, et vous y passerez la nuit, avant de poursuivre votre route. – Non, lui répondirent-ils, nous passerons la nuit sur la place.3Mais Loth insista tant qu’ils finirent par accepter de se rendre dans sa maison. Il leur fit préparer un festin et cuire du pain sans levain et ils se mirent à manger.4Quand ils furent sur le point de se coucher, la maison fut encerclée par les gens de la ville: tous les hommes de Sodome, jeunes et vieux, étaient venus là du bout de la ville.5Ils appelèrent Loth et lui demandèrent: Où sont ces hommes qui sont venus chez toi cette nuit? Amène-les nous pour que nous entrions en relation avec eux!6Loth sortit sur le pas de sa porte et referma la porte derrière lui.7– Non, mes frères, leur dit-il, je vous en supplie, ne commettez pas le mal!8Ecoutez: j’ai deux filles qui sont encore vierges. Je vais vous les amener, vous leur ferez ce qui vous plaira, mais ne touchez pas ces hommes puisqu’ils sont venus s’abriter sous mon toit[1].9– Ote-toi de là! lui crièrent-ils. Puis ils ajoutèrent: Voyez-moi cet individu, il est venu ici comme étranger et maintenant, il veut jouer au juge! Eh bien, nous t’en ferons voir plus qu’à eux. Puis ils poussèrent violemment Loth de côté et s’approchèrent de la porte pour l’enfoncer.10Mais les deux hommes venus chez Loth se saisirent de lui, le ramenèrent vers eux à l’intérieur de la maison, et refermèrent la porte.11Ils frappèrent d’aveuglement les gens massés à l’entrée de la maison, jeunes et vieux, de sorte qu’ils n’arrivaient plus à trouver la porte.12Alors les deux hommes dirent à Loth: Qui as-tu encore de ta parenté dans cette ville? Des gendres, des fils et des filles? Qui que ce soit, fais-les sortir de là:13nous allons détruire cette ville, parce que de graves accusations contre ses habitants sont montées jusque devant l’Eternel. C’est pourquoi l’Eternel nous a envoyés pour détruire la ville.14Là-dessus, Loth sortit et alla trouver les fiancés qui devaient prochainement épouser ses filles. – Allons, leur dit-il, il faut quitter ce lieu car l’Eternel va détruire la ville! Mais les fiancés prirent ses paroles pour une plaisanterie.15Dès que l’aube parut, les anges se firent pressants. Ils dirent à Loth: Debout! Emmène ta femme et tes deux filles qui sont ici, si tu ne veux pas périr emporté par le jugement qui va s’abattre sur cette ville.16Comme il hésitait encore, les deux hommes les prirent par la main, lui, sa femme et ses deux filles, car Dieu voulait les épargner, et ils les entraînèrent hors de la ville[2]. (2Pe 2:7)17Une fois hors de la ville, l’un des hommes lui dit: Sauve-toi! Il y va de ta vie. Ne regarde pas derrière toi et ne t’arrête nulle part dans la plaine! Fuis vers la montagne si tu ne veux pas périr!18– Oh non, mon seigneur, lui dit Loth,19ton serviteur a déjà obtenu ta faveur et tu as été très bon envers moi en me sauvant la vie; je ne pourrai pas m’enfuir jusqu’à la montagne, je risque d’être atteint par le malheur et de mourir.20Il y a cette ville là-bas; elle est assez proche pour que j’aie le temps de m’y réfugier. Elle est insignifiante, permets-moi de fuir jusque-là pour sauver ma vie! N’est-elle pas peu de chose?21– Bon, lui dit l’ange, je t’accorde encore cette faveur et je ne ferai pas venir de catastrophe sur la ville dont tu parles.22Mais dépêche-toi de t’y sauver, car je ne peux rien faire avant que tu y sois arrivé! C’est pourquoi on a nommé la ville Tsoar (Peu de chose).23Au moment où le soleil se levait, Loth arrivait à Tsoar.24Alors l’Eternel fit tomber sur Sodome et sur Gomorrhe une pluie de soufre enflammé par un feu qui venait du ciel, de l’Eternel.25Il fit venir une catastrophe sur ces villes ainsi que sur toute la région. Toute la population de ces villes périt ainsi que la végétation[3]. (De 29:22; Jer 20:16; La 4:6; Am 4:11; Mt 10:15; Mt 11:23; Lu 10:12; Lu 17:29; 2Pe 2:6; Jud 1:7)26La femme de Loth regarda derrière elle et fut changée en une statue de sel[4]. (Lu 17:32)27Abraham se rendit de bon matin à l’endroit où il s’était tenu en présence de l’Eternel.28Il porta son regard vers Sodome et Gomorrhe et vers toute la plaine environnante et il vit s’élever de la terre une épaisse fumée, comme celle d’un immense brasier.29Ainsi, lorsque Dieu détruisit les villes de la plaine, il n’oublia pas Abraham et il fit échapper Loth à la catastrophe par laquelle il anéantit les villes où Loth avait habité.
Une descendance pour Loth
30Par la suite, Loth quitta Tsoar car il avait peur d’y demeurer, et il alla habiter avec ses deux filles dans la montagne. Il s’installa avec elles dans une caverne.31L’aînée dit à la cadette: Notre père est déjà âgé et il n’y a pas d’autre homme dans ce pays pour s’unir à nous selon l’usage de tout le monde.32Allons! faisons-lui boire du vin et couchons avec lui pour lui donner une descendance.33Cette nuit-là, elles firent donc boire du vin à leur père et l’aînée vint partager la couche de son père, qui ne se rendit compte de rien, ni quand elle se coucha, ni quand elle se leva.34Le lendemain, l’aînée dit à la plus jeune: La nuit dernière j’ai couché avec mon père; enivrons-le encore ce soir et tu iras partager son lit. Ainsi nous lui donnerons une descendance.35Ce soir-là, elles firent donc encore boire du vin à leur père et la cadette alla coucher avec lui, mais il ne s’aperçut ni quand elle se coucha ni quand elle se leva.36Les deux filles de Loth devinrent enceintes de leur père.37L’aînée eut un fils qu’elle appela Moab[5] (Issu du père); c’est l’ancêtre des Moabites qui existent encore aujourd’hui.38La cadette aussi eut un fils, qu’elle appela Ben-Ammi (Fils de mon parent); c’est l’ancêtre des Ammonites[6] qui existent encore aujourd’hui.
