1Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father' house, unto a land that I will shew thee:2And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:3And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.4So Abram departed, as the LORD had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.5And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother' son, and all their substance that they had gathered, and the souls that they had gotten in Haran; and they went forth to go into the land of Canaan; and into the land of Canaan they came.6And Abram passed through the land unto the place of Sichem, unto the plain of Moreh. And the Canaanite was then in the land.7And the LORD appeared unto Abram, and said, Unto thy seed will I give this land: and there builded he an altar unto the LORD, who appeared unto him.8And he removed from thence unto a mountain on the east of Bethel, and pitched his tent, having Bethel on the west, and Hai on the east: and there he builded an altar unto the LORD, and called upon the name of the LORD.9And Abram journeyed, going on still toward the south.10And there was a famine in the land: and Abram went down into Egypt to sojourn there; for the famine was grievous in the land.11And it came to pass, when he was come near to enter into Egypt, that he said unto Sarai his wife, Behold now, I know that thou art a fair woman to look upon:12Therefore it shall come to pass, when the Egyptians shall see thee, that they shall say, This is his wife: and they will kill me, but they will save thee alive.13Say, I pray thee, thou art my sister: that it may be well with me for thy sake; and my soul shall live because of thee.14And it came to pass, that, when Abram was come into Egypt, the Egyptians beheld the woman that she was very fair.15The princes also of Pharaoh saw her, and commended her before Pharaoh: and the woman was taken into Pharaoh' house.16And he entreated Abram well for her sake: and he had sheep, and oxen, and he asses, and menservants, and maidservants, and she asses, and camels.17And the LORD plagued Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai Abram' wife.18And Pharaoh called Abram, and said, What is this that thou hast done unto me? why didst thou not tell me that she was thy wife?19Why saidst thou, She is my sister? so I might have taken her to me to wife: now therefore behold thy wife, take her , and go thy way.20And Pharaoh commanded his men concerning him: and they sent him away, and his wife, and all that he had.
1Da sagte Jahwe zu Abram: „Zieh aus deinem Land weg! Verlass deine Sippe und auch die Familie deines Vaters und geh in das Land, das ich dir zeigen werde![1] (Ac 7:3)2Ich will dich zu einer großen Nation werden lassen; ich werde dich segnen und deinen Namen bekannt machen. Du wirst ein Segen für andere sein.3Ich will segnen, die dich segnen, und verfluchen, die dir fluchen. Alle Völker[2] der Erde werden durch dich gesegnet sein.“[3] (Ge 18:18; Ga 3:8)
Abram in Kanaan
4Abram gehorchte dem Befehl Jahwes und brach auf. Lot zog mit ihm. Abram war 75 Jahre alt, als er Haran verließ.5Seine Frau Sarai und sein Neffe Lot begleiteten ihn. Sie nahmen alle Menschen, die sie in Haran erworben hatten, und ihren ganzen Besitz mit. So zogen sie nach Kanaan.6Abram durchzog das Land bis zu einem Platz bei Sichem[4] in der Nähe des Wahrsagebaums.[5] Damals waren ja noch die Kanaaniter im Land.7Dort ließ sich Jahwe von Abram sehen[6] und sagte zu ihm: „Dieses Land will ich deinen Nachkommen geben!“ Da baute Abram an dieser Stelle einen Altar für Jahwe, der ihm erschienen war. (Ge 15:1)8Später zog er in das Bergland östlich von Bet-El und schlug seine Zelte so auf, dass er Bet-El im Westen und Ai im Osten hatte. Auch dort baute er Jahwe einen Altar und machte so den Namen Jahwes bekannt.[7]9Dann brach er wieder auf und zog immer weiter in den Negev[8] hinein.
Abram und Sarai in Ägypten
10Als eine schwere Hungersnot im Land ausbrach, suchte Abram Zuflucht in Ägypten.11Kurz vor der ägyptischen Grenze sagte er zu seiner Frau Sarai: „Ich weiß, dass du eine sehr schöne Frau bist.12Wenn die Ägypter dich sehen, werden sie sagen: 'Das ist seine Frau!', und sie werden mich totschlagen, um dich zu bekommen.13Sag doch, dass du meine Schwester bist, dann werden sie mich deinetwegen gut behandeln und am Leben lassen!“14Tatsächlich geschah es so, als Abram nach Ägypten kam. Überall fiel seine Frau durch ihre Schönheit auf.15Die Hofleute rühmten sie vor dem Pharao, und der ließ sie in seinen Palast holen.16Ihretwegen überhäufte er Abram mit Geschenken. Er ließ ihm Schafe, Ziegen, Rinder und Esel zukommen, Sklaven und Sklavinnen, Eselstuten und Kamele.17Doch weil der Pharao Abrams Frau zu sich genommen hatte, schlug Jahwe ihn und seine Familie mit schweren Krankheiten.18Da ließ der Pharao Abram zu sich rufen. „Was hast du mir da angetan?“, warf er ihm vor. „Warum hast du mir nicht gesagt, dass sie deine Frau ist?19Du hast sie als deine Schwester ausgegeben, und nur deshalb habe ich sie mir zur Frau genommen! Nun, hier ist deine Frau! Nimm sie und geh!“20Dann gab der Pharao seinen Männern Befehl, Abram und seinen Besitz sicher aus dem Land zu bringen.

(Ac 7:2; Heb 11:8)2Je ferai de toi l’ancêtre d’un grand peuple; je te bénirai, je ferai de toi un personnage renommé et tu deviendras une source de bénédiction pour d’autres.3Je bénirai ceux qui te béniront et je maudirai ceux qui t’outrageront[2]. Toutes les familles de la terre seront bénies à travers toi[3]. (Ac 3:25; Ga 3:8)4Abram partit comme l’Eternel le lui avait demandé, et Loth s’en alla avec lui. Abram avait soixante-quinze ans quand il quitta Harân[4]. (Heb 11:8)5Il emmena Saraï, sa femme, son neveu Loth, tous les biens et les serviteurs qu’ils avaient acquis à Harân, et ils se mirent en route pour aller au pays de Canaan. Quand ils furent arrivés,6Abram traversa le pays jusqu’à un lieu appelé Sichem, jusqu’au chêne de Moré. A cette époque-là, les Cananéens habitaient le pays.7L’Eternel apparut à Abram et lui dit: Je donnerai ce pays à ta descendance[5]. Abram érigea là un autel à l’Eternel qui lui était apparu. (Ac 7:5; Ga 3:16)8Puis il leva le camp pour se rendre dans la région montagneuse à l’est de Béthel[6]; il établit son campement entre Béthel, à l’ouest, et Aï, à l’est. Il y érigea un autre autel à l’Eternel et lui adressa des prières. (Ge 28:19)9Ensuite Abram repartit vers le sud; d’étape en étape, il gagna le Néguev[7].
Abram en Egypte
10Une famine survint dans le pays. Alors Abram se rendit en Egypte[8] pour y séjourner quelque temps, car la famine sévissait dans le pays. (Ge 26:1; Ge 41:57)11Lorsqu’il approchait de l’Egypte, il dit à Saraï sa femme: Ecoute, je sais que tu es très belle.12Quand les Egyptiens te verront, ils se diront: « C’est sa femme. » Ils me tueront et te laisseront en vie.13Dis-leur donc que tu es ma sœur, pour qu’on me traite bien à cause de toi. Ainsi, grâce à toi, ma vie sera épargnée.14En effet, quand Abram arriva en Egypte, les Egyptiens remarquèrent la grande beauté de sa femme.15Des gens de la cour du pharaon la remarquèrent et la vantèrent à leur maître, de sorte qu’elle fut enlevée et emmenée au palais royal.16A cause d’elle, le pharaon traita Abram avec bonté. Il lui offrit des moutons, des chèvres, des bovins, des ânes, des serviteurs, des servantes, des ânesses et des chameaux.17Mais l’Eternel infligea de grands maux au pharaon et aux gens de sa maison, à cause de Saraï, la femme d’Abram.18Alors le pharaon convoqua Abram et lui dit: Qu’est-ce que tu m’as fait là? Pourquoi ne m’as-tu pas dit qu’elle était ta femme?19Pourquoi l’as-tu présentée comme ta sœur? A cause de cela, j’en ai fait ma femme. Maintenant, voilà ta femme; reprends-la et va-t’en!20Et le pharaon chargea ses gens de le reconduire avec sa femme et avec tout ce qu’il possédait.
