1 If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies, 2 Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. 3 Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. 4 Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. 5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. 9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: 10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. 12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. 13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure. 14 Do all things without murmurings and disputings: 15 That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world; 16 Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain. 17 Yea, and if I be offered upon the sacrifice and service of your faith, I joy, and rejoice with you all. 18 For the same cause also do ye joy, and rejoice with me. 19 But I trust in the Lord Jesus to send Timotheus shortly unto you, that I also may be of good comfort, when I know your state. 20 For I have no man likeminded, who will naturally care for your state. 21 For all seek their own, not the things which are Jesus Christ's. 22 But ye know the proof of him, that, as a son with the father, he hath served with me in the gospel. 23 Him therefore I hope to send presently, so soon as I shall see how it will go with me. 24 But I trust in the Lord that I also myself shall come shortly. 25 Yet I supposed it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother, and companion in labour, and fellow soldier, but your messenger, and he that ministered to my wants. 26 For he longed after you all, and was full of heaviness, because that ye had heard that he had been sick. 27 For indeed he was sick nigh unto death: but God had mercy on him; and not on him only, but on me also, lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow. 28 I sent him therefore the more carefully, that, when ye see him again, ye may rejoice, and that I may be the less sorrowful. 29 Receive him therefore in the Lord with all gladness; and hold such in reputation: 30 Because for the work of Christ he was nigh unto death, not regarding his life, to supply your lack of service toward me.

Imitându‑L pe Cristos în smerenie

1 Așadar, dacă este vreo încurajare în Cristos, dacă este vreo mângâiere în dragoste, dacă este vreo părtășie a Duhului, dacă este vreun simțământ^[1] și vreo îndurare, 2 împliniți‑mi bucuria și fiți în același gând, având aceeași dragoste, fiind uniți în suflet și având un singur gând! 3 Nu faceți nimic din ambiție egoistă, nici din slavă deșartă, ci, în smerenie, să‑i considerați pe alții mai presus decât pe voi înșivă. 4 Fiecare dintre voi să se preocupe nu doar de interesele lui, ci și de ale altora. 5 Să aveți în voi gândul acesta, care era și în Cristos Isus, 6 Cel Ce, deși exista în chip^[2] de Dumnezeu, n‑a considerat că a fi deopotrivă cu Dumnezeu este un lucru de apucat, 7 ci S‑a golit pe Sine, luând chip de rob și devenind asemenea oamenilor. La înfățișare a fost găsit ca un om;^[3] 8 S‑a smerit și a devenit ascultător până la moarte și încă moarte pe cruce. 9 De aceea și Dumnezeu L‑a înălțat nespus de mult și I‑a dăruit Numele care este mai presus de orice nume, 10 pentru ca în Numele lui Isus să se aplece orice genunchi din cer, de pe pământ și de sub pământ, 11 și orice limbă să mărturisească că Isus Cristos este Domn, spre slava lui Dumnezeu Tatăl.

Strălucind ca niște stele

12 De aceea, preaiubiții mei, așa cum întotdeauna ați ascultat, nu doar în prezența mea, ci mult mai mult acum, în lipsa mea, lucrați pe deplin^[4] mântuirea voastră, cu frică și cutremur, 13 căci Dumnezeu este Cel Ce lucrează în voi și voința și înfăptuirea după buna Lui plăcere. 14 Faceți toate lucrurile fără nemulțumiri^[5] și fără dispute, 15 ca să fiți fără vină și curați, copii ai lui Dumnezeu, fără cusur, în mijlocul unei generații corupte și pervertite, în care străluciți ca niște lumini în lume^[6], 16 ținând sus^[7] Cuvântul vieții, ca să mă pot lăuda în ziua lui Cristos că n‑am alergat fără folos, nici nu m‑am ostenit fără folos. 17 Și chiar dacă sunt turnat ca o jertfă de băutură peste jertfa și slujba credinței voastre^[8], eu mă bucur și îmi împărtășesc bucuria cu voi toți. (Ex 29:38) 18 În același fel, bucurați‑vă și voi și împărtășiți‑vă bucuria cu mine!

Timotei și Epafroditos

19 Îmi pun speranța în Domnul Isus că vi‑l voi trimite în curând pe Timotei, pentru ca și eu să fiu încurajat de veștile despre voi. 20 Căci n‑am pe nimeni de suflet ca Timotei; el se va preocupa cu adevărat de voi. 21 Fiindcă toți își caută propriile foloase, și nu pe ale lui Cristos. 22 Voi cunoașteți caracterul lui, că a slujit împreună cu mine pentru Evanghelie ca un copil cu tatăl lui. 23 Sper deci să vi‑l trimit imediat ce aflu cum vor fi lucrurile în privința mea 24 și sunt încrezător în Domnul că voi veni și eu curând. 25 Am considerat necesar să vi‑l trimit pe fratele Epafroditos, lucrător și soldat împreună cu mine, trimisul și slujitorul vostru pentru nevoile mele. 26 Căci îi era foarte dor de voi toți și a fost foarte tulburat fiindcă ați auzit că a fost bolnav. 27 A fost atât de bolnav încât era aproape să moară, însă Dumnezeu a avut milă de el și nu doar de el, ci și de mine, ca să nu am parte de întristare peste întristare. 28 Așadar, vi‑l trimit în grabă, ca să vă bucurați din nou văzându‑l, iar eu să nu mai fiu întristat. 29 Primiți‑l deci bine, în Domnul, cu toată bucuria, și cinstiți astfel de oameni! 30 Căci de dragul lucrării lui Cristos a fost aproape de moarte, riscându‑și viața ca să împlinească ceea ce lipsea slujbei voastre pentru mine.
