1 After these things Jesus walked in Galilee: for he would not walk in Jewry, because the Jews sought to kill him. 2 Now the Jews' feast of tabernacles was at hand. 3 His brethren therefore said unto him, Depart hence, and go into Judaea, that thy disciples also may see the works that thou doest. 4 For there is no man that doeth any thing in secret, and he himself seeketh to be known openly. If thou do these things, shew thyself to the world. 5 For neither did his brethren believe in him. 6 Then Jesus said unto them, My time is not yet come: but your time is alway ready. 7 The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth, because I testify of it, that the works thereof are evil. 8 Go ye up unto this feast: I go not up yet unto this feast; for my time is not yet full come. 9 When he had said these words unto them, he abode still in Galilee. 10 But when his brethren were gone up, then went he also up unto the feast, not openly, but as it were in secret. 11 Then the Jews sought him at the feast, and said, Where is he? 12 And there was much murmuring among the people concerning him: for some said, He is a good man: others said, Nay; but he deceiveth the people. 13 Howbeit no man spake openly of him for fear of the Jews. 14 Now about the midst of the feast Jesus went up into the temple, and taught. 15 And the Jews marvelled, saying, How knoweth this man letters, having never learned? 16 Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me. 17 If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself. 18 He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him. 19 Did not Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keepeth the law? Why go ye about to kill me? 20 The people answered and said, Thou hast a devil: who goeth about to kill thee? 21 Jesus answered and said unto them, I have done one work, and ye all marvel. 22 Moses therefore gave unto you circumcision; (not because it is of Moses, but of the fathers;) and ye on the sabbath day circumcise a man. 23 If a man on the sabbath day receive circumcision, that the law of Moses should not be broken; are ye angry at me, because I have made a man every whit whole on the sabbath day? 24 Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment. 25 Then said some of them of Jerusalem, Is not this he, whom they seek to kill? 26 But, lo, he speaketh boldly, and they say nothing unto him. Do the rulers know indeed that this is the very Christ? 27 Howbeit we know this man whence he is: but when Christ cometh, no man knoweth whence he is. 28 Then cried Jesus in the temple as he taught, saying, Ye both know me, and ye know whence I am: and I am not come of myself, but he that sent me is true, whom ye know not. 29 But I know him: for I am from him, and he hath sent me. 30 Then they sought to take him: but no man laid hands on him, because his hour was not yet come. 31 And many of the people believed on him, and said, When Christ cometh, will he do more miracles than these which this man hath done? 32 The Pharisees heard that the people murmured such things concerning him; and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers to take him. 33 Then said Jesus unto them, Yet a little while am I with you, and then I go unto him that sent me. 34 Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, thither ye cannot come. 35 Then said the Jews among themselves, Whither will he go, that we shall not find him? will he go unto the dispersed among the Gentiles, and teach the Gentiles? 36 What manner of saying is this that he said, Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, thither ye cannot come? 37 In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. 38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. 39 (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.) 40 Many of the people therefore, when they heard this saying, said, Of a truth this is the Prophet. 41 Others said, This is the Christ. But some said, Shall Christ come out of Galilee? 42 Hath not the scripture said, That Christ cometh of the seed of David, and out of the town of Bethlehem, where David was? 43 So there was a division among the people because of him. 44 And some of them would have taken him; but no man laid hands on him. 45 Then came the officers to the chief priests and Pharisees; and they said unto them, Why have ye not brought him? 46 The officers answered, Never man spake like this man. 47 Then answered them the Pharisees, Are ye also deceived? 48 Have any of the rulers or of the Pharisees believed on him? 49 But this people who knoweth not the law are cursed. 50 Nicodemus saith unto them, (he that came to Jesus by night, being one of them,) 51 Doth our law judge any man, before it hear him, and know what he doeth? 52 They answered and said unto him, Art thou also of Galilee? Search, and look: for out of Galilee ariseth no prophet. 53 And every man went unto his own house.

Necredința fraților lui Isus

1 După aceea, Isus a călătorit prin Galileea. Nu voia să călătorească prin Iudeea, pentru că iudeii căutau să‑L omoare. 2 Sărbătoarea iudeilor, cea a Corturilor^[1], era aproape. (Le 23:33; De 16:13; Zec 14:16) 3 Prin urmare, frații Lui I‑au zis: – Pleacă de aici și du‑Te în Iudeea, ca să vadă și ucenicii Tăi lucrările pe care le faci! 4 Căci nimeni nu face ceva pe ascuns când caută să devină cunoscut. Dacă faci aceste lucruri, arată‑Te lumii! 5 Căci nici chiar frații Lui nu credeau în El. 6 Atunci Isus le‑a zis: – Vremea Mea n‑a sosit încă, dar vouă vremea vă este întotdeauna prielnică! 7 Pe voi lumea nu vă poate urî, dar pe Mine Mă urăște, pentru că Eu mărturisesc despre ea și anume că lucrările ei sunt rele. 8 Suiți‑vă voi la sărbătoare. Eu încă nu Mă sui la sărbătoarea aceasta, pentru că nu Mi s‑a împlinit încă vremea. 9 Și zicând aceste lucruri, a rămas în Galileea.

Isus la Sărbătoarea Corturilor

10 Însă, după ce frații Lui s‑au suit la sărbătoare, S‑a suit și El, dar nu pe față, ci mai pe ascuns. 11 La sărbătoare, iudeii Îl căutau și se întrebau: „Unde este Acela?“ 12 Era multă rumoare^[2] în mulțime cu privire la El. Unii ziceau: „Este un Om bun!“ Alții ziceau: „Nu, ci duce în rătăcire mulțimea!“ 13 Totuși, de frica iudeilor, nimeni nu vorbea deschis despre El. 14 Când sărbătoarea era deja la jumătate, Isus S‑a suit la Templu și a început să dea învățătură. 15 Iudeii erau uimiți și se întrebau: – Cum de știe Acesta atâta învățătură fără să fi învățat?! 16 Atunci Isus le‑a răspuns și a zis: – Învățătura Mea nu este a Mea, ci a Celui Ce M‑a trimis. 17 Dacă vrea cineva să facă voia Lui, va cunoaște dacă învățătura este de la Dumnezeu sau dacă Eu vorbesc de la Mine. 18 Cel ce vorbește de la el caută slava lui însuși. Dar cel ce caută slava celui ce l‑a trimis, acela este adevărat și în el nu este nedreptate. 19 Oare nu v‑a dat Moise Legea? Și totuși niciunul dintre voi nu respectă^[3] Legea! De ce căutați să Mă omorâți? 20 Mulțimea a răspuns: – Ai demon! Cine caută să Te omoare?! 21 Isus a răspuns și le‑a zis: – O lucrare am făcut și toți sunteți uimiți. 22 Totuși, Moise v‑a dat circumcizia – nu că ea este de la Moise, ci de la patriarhi^[4] – și voi îl circumcideți pe om în ziua de Sabat. 23 Dacă un om primește circumcizia în ziua de Sabat, ca să nu fie încălcată Legea lui Moise, atunci de ce sunteți furioși pe Mine pentru că am făcut sănătos un om întreg în ziua de Sabat? 24 Nu judecați după înfățișare, ci judecați cu o judecată dreaptă!

Oamenii se întreabă dacă Isus este Cristosul

25 Unii dintre ierusalimiți ziceau: – Nu este Acesta Cel pe Care caută ei să‑L omoare? 26 Și iată că vorbește deschis, iar ei nu‑I zic nimic! Nu cumva conducătorii au ajuns să cunoască într-adevăr că El este Cristosul? 27 Totuși, noi știm de unde este Omul Acesta. Însă când va veni Cristosul nimeni nu va ști de unde este.^[5] (Joh 7:41) 28 Atunci Isus, în timp ce dădea învățătură în Templu, a strigat și a zis: – Mă cunoașteți și știți de unde sunt?^[6] N‑am venit de la Mine Însumi, ci Cel Ce M‑a trimis este adevărat, iar voi nu‑L cunoașteți! 29 Eu Îl cunosc, pentru că Eu sunt de la El și El M‑a trimis. 30 Ei încercau să‑L aresteze, dar nimeni n‑a pus mâna pe El, căci încă nu‑I sosise ceasul. 31 Însă mulți din mulțime au crezut în El și ziceau: – Când va veni Cristosul, va face El mai multe semne decât a făcut Acesta? 32 Fariseii au auzit mulțimea murmurând aceste lucruri despre El și, ca urmare, conducătorii preoților și fariseii au trimis niște gărzi să‑L aresteze. 33 Atunci Isus a zis: – Mai sunt cu voi încă puțină vreme, iar apoi plec la Cel Ce M‑a trimis. 34 Mă veți căuta, dar nu Mă veți găsi, iar unde voi fi Eu, voi nu puteți veni. 35 Iudeii se întrebau unii pe alții: – Unde urmează să Se ducă Acesta, astfel încât noi să nu‑L găsim?! Doar nu urmează să Se ducă la cei împrăștiați printre greci și să‑i învețe pe greci?! 36 Ce înseamnă cuvintele acestea pe care le‑a zis: „Mă veți căuta, dar nu Mă veți găsi, iar unde voi fi Eu, voi nu puteți veni.“?

Isus, Apa vieții

37 În ultima zi a sărbătorii, ziua cea mare, Isus S‑a ridicat și a strigat, zicând: „Dacă însetează cineva, să vină la Mine și să bea! 38 Cel ce crede în Mine, din inima lui vor curge râuri de apă vie, așa cum zice Scriptura!^[7]“ (Isa 44:3; Isa 55:1; Isa 58:11; Eze 47:1; Zec 14:8)

39 Spunea aceasta despre Duhul pe Care urmau să‑L primească cei ce cred în El. Căci Duhul nu fusese încă dat, pentru că Isus nu fusese încă proslăvit. 40 Când au auzit aceste cuvinte, unii din mulțime ziceau: „Acesta este într-adevăr Profetul!“^[8] (De 18:15; De 18:18) 41 Alții ziceau: „Acesta este Cristosul!“, iar alții ziceau: „Nu, căci Cristosul nu vine din Galileea, nu‑i așa?! 42 Nu spune Scriptura că din sămânța lui David^[9] vine Cristosul, și din Betleem^[10], satul de unde era David?“ (Ps 89:4; Mic 5:2) 43 Și s‑a făcut astfel dezbinare în mulțime din cauza Lui. 44 Unii dintre ei voiau să‑L aresteze, însă nimeni n‑a pus mâna pe El.

Necredința conducătorilor religioși

45 Gărzile s‑au întors la conducătorii preoților și la farisei, iar aceștia le‑au întrebat: – De ce nu L‑ați adus? 46 Gărzile au răspuns: – Niciodată n‑a vorbit vreun om astfel! 47 Atunci fariseii le‑au răspuns: – Nu cumva ați fost duși și voi în rătăcire?! 48 A crezut în El vreunul dintre conducători sau dintre farisei?! 49 Însă mulțimea aceasta care nu cunoaște Legea este blestemată! 50 Nicodim, cel care venise la Isus mai înainte și care era unul dintre ei, le‑a zis: 51 – Oare judecă Legea noastră un om înainte să‑l asculte și să știe ce face? 52 Ei au răspuns și i‑au zis: – Nu cumva ești și tu din Galileea? Cercetează și vei vedea că din Galileea nu se ridică vreun profet^[11]! (De 18:15; 2Ki 14:25) 53 Apoi fiecare s‑a dus acasă.
