1Moreover the LORD said unto me, Take thee a great roll, and write in it with a man' pen concerning Mahershalalhashbaz.2And I took unto me faithful witnesses to record, Uriah the priest, and Zechariah the son of Jeberechiah.3And I went unto the prophetess; and she conceived, and bare a son. Then said the LORD to me, Call his name Mahershalalhashbaz.4For before the child shall have knowledge to cry, My father, and my mother, the riches of Damascus and the spoil of Samaria shall be taken away before the king of Assyria.5The LORD spake also unto me again, saying,6Forasmuch as this people refuseth the waters of Shiloah that go softly, and rejoice in Rezin and Remaliah' son;7Now therefore, behold, the Lord bringeth up upon them the waters of the river, strong and many, even the king of Assyria, and all his glory: and he shall come up over all his channels, and go over all his banks:8And he shall pass through Judah; he shall overflow and go over, he shall reach even to the neck; and the stretching out of his wings shall fill the breadth of thy land, O Immanuel.9Associate yourselves, O ye people, and ye shall be broken in pieces; and give ear, all ye of far countries: gird yourselves, and ye shall be broken in pieces; gird yourselves, and ye shall be broken in pieces.10Take counsel together, and it shall come to nought; speak the word, and it shall not stand: for God is with us.11For the LORD spake thus to me with a strong hand, and instructed me that I should not walk in the way of this people, saying,12Say ye not, A confederacy, to all them to whom this people shall say, A confederacy; neither fear ye their fear, nor be afraid.13Sanctify the LORD of hosts himself; and let him be your fear, and let him be your dread.14And he shall be for a sanctuary; but for a stone of stumbling and for a rock of offence to both the houses of Israel, for a gin and for a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.15And many among them shall stumble, and fall, and be broken, and be snared, and be taken.16Bind up the testimony, seal the law among my disciples.17And I will wait upon the LORD, that hideth his face from the house of Jacob, and I will look for him.18Behold, I and the children whom the LORD hath given me are for signs and for wonders in Israel from the LORD of hosts, which dwelleth in mount Zion.19And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizards that peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? for the living to the dead?20To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.21And they shall pass through it, hardly bestead and hungry: and it shall come to pass, that when they shall be hungry, they shall fret themselves, and curse their king and their God, and look upward.22And they shall look unto the earth; and behold trouble and darkness, dimness of anguish; and they shall be driven to darkness.
1DOMNUL mi‑a zis: „Ia o placă mare și scrie pe ea cu un stilet obișnuit[1]: «Maher-șalal-haș-baz[2]».“2Iar ca martori ai mei demni de încredere i‑am chemat pe preotul Urie și pe Zaharia, fiul lui Ieberechia.3M‑am apropiat apoi de profetesă; ea a rămas însărcinată și a născut un fiu. DOMNUL mi‑a zis: „Pune‑i numele Maher-șalal-haș-baz.4Căci înainte să știe copilul să zică: «Tatăl meu» și«Mama mea», bogăția Damascului și prada din Samaria vor fi luate de împăratul Asiriei.“5DOMNUL mi‑a vorbit din nou, zicând:6„Pentru că poporul acesta a respins apele din Șiloah[3] care curg lin, și s‑a bucurat de[4] Rețin și de fiul lui Remalia,7de aceea, iată, Stăpânul va ridica împotriva lor apele mari și puternice ale râului[5], adică pe împăratul Asiriei și toată gloria sa. El se va ridica deasupra albiei și se va revărsa peste maluri!8Va năvăli în Iuda ca un puhoi și, curgând peste, le va ajunge până la gât! Aripile sale întinse vor acoperi întinderea țării tale, Emanuele[6]!“9Scoateți strigăte de război,[7] popoare, și fiți zdrobite! Luați aminte voi, toate țările îndepărtate! Încingeți‑vă și fiți zdrobite! Încingeți‑vă și fiți zdrobite!10Faceți planuri, dar ele vor fi zădărnicite! Luați hotărâri, dar ele nu vor rămâne în picioare, pentru că Dumnezeu este cu noi[8]!
Israel să se teamă de Domnul
11DOMNUL mi‑a vorbit în timp ce mâna Sa puternică era asupra mea și m‑a avertizat să nu umblu pe calea acestui popor. El a zis:12„Nu numiți uneltire tot ceea ce poporul acesta numește uneltire! Nu vă temeți de ce îi este lui teamă și nu vă îngroziți!13Ci pe DOMNUL Oștirilor să‑L priviți ca sfânt[9]; de El să vă fie teamă și de El să vă îngroziți. (Nu 20:12)14El va fi un Lăcaș Sfânt, însă pentru cele două Case ale lui Israel va fi o Piatră de poticnire și o Stâncă de cădere. Va fi un laț și o cursă pentru locuitorii Ierusalimului.15Mulți dintre ei se vor împiedica, vor cădea și vor fi sfărâmați, vor fi prinși în laț și capturați.16Leagă această mărturie, și pecetluiește această lege între ucenicii Mei!“17Îl voi aștepta pe DOMNUL, Care Își ascunde fața de Casa lui Iacov, și voi nădăjdui în El.18Iată‑ne, eu și copiii pe care mi i‑a dat DOMNUL! Suntem semne și prevestiri în Israel de la DOMNUL Oștirilor, Care locuiește pe muntele Sion.19Când vă vor zice: „Căutați‑i pe cei ce întreabă duhurile morților și pe cei ce cheamă spiritele[10], pe cei care îngaimă și bolborosesc!“, să răspundeți: „Nu va întreba oare un popor pe Dumnezeul său? De ce să întrebe pe cei morți pentru cei vii? (Le 19:31; De 18:11)20La lege și la mărturie!“ Dacă nu veți vorbi potrivit acestui cuvânt, nu veți avea parte de lumina zorilor.21Necăjit și flămând, poporul va pribegi prin țară, iar când îi va fi foame se va mânia și, uitându‑se în sus, va blestema pe regele lui și pe Dumnezeul lui.22Apoi se va uita către pământ, și iată că va fi numai necaz, întuneric și negură chinuitoare; și va fi aruncat în beznă.
